Led Zeppelin: 1969-01-12: San Francisco, CA (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_2 CD)

It was 46 years ago today Led Zeppelin played these two sets to finish up their fourth day and first time playing the Fillmore West as a new band.

Also, today is the 46th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin.  The band's very first LP was released as they were touring so any show prior to this date had a crowd who could not have heard their music likely.  I do not know if songs got released early on radio or not back in 1969?  But chances are, unless you went to one of the previous shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or maybe even Washington (state), you likely hadn't heard the new music yet.  These crowds were some of the very first people to hear it and the very first here in America.

Presence put this second generation copy up for us to get and share.  The artwork, low resolution artwork I might add, may or may not have been created for this exact Presence second generation share.  But since it is a perfect match, I will use it.

This is a good-to-great recording of the show audio-wise.  That means it will be enjoyable for real collectors and fans of live shows but it might not be as enjoyable for the people who want something that sounds like it came out of the studio.

As traders and collectors do, we seldom say something is poor or bad.  We rate by nicer sounding terms I guess because we love the music.  But in another method of rating more commonly used than "poor, good, great, excellent, and superb" like I do, I'll put it into numbers.  It's about a 6 out of 10.  And I think the sound improves a little as the show gets going too.  Page's guitar really stands out nicely also and the mix is even.

I really love it and enjoy this recording and it sounds clean for the most part.  There is some distortion in heavier musical playing areas with heavier bass parts, but it isn't too bad at all.  There is no audio clipping and the sound is clean with low hiss in the tape's audio too.  There have been no alterations made to the sound from the master tape either.  In fact, some of the other copies I checked from various labels were not very good because they boosted the amplification, EQ'ed it badly, etc like they many times do.  To me, this is the best sounding copy of this show and everything can be heard just fine without any problems.

I hope you enjoy this historic show from 46 years ago today...
