Creedence Clearwater Revival: 1970-08-29 Inglewood, CA (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_1 CD)

Today is the 46th anniversary of this Creedence Clearwater Revival show in the Los Angeles area.  The recording is not bad either.  The source being low generation (2nd generation) helps I am sure.  But there are issues with the recording too.  I'll get into those below as I describe the recording.

I couldn't sleep tonight, and since I haven't been able to upload a show in a long time, I decided to see who's concert anniversary it was today.  I am trying to get to a point where I can start uploading regularly again but it has been difficult lately.  And on top of other issues keeping me busy, the hard drive on my main PC (this PC) is failing and will "imminently fail" according to the boot up message.  So this is something I'll have to take care of before I can return as well.

The waveform has no clipping (or maybe one spike into the red really) and it doesn't show any brickwalling.  But the audio likely has been amplified and it is close to being maxed out in  the waveform.

The audio sounds great but it has issues as I mentioned.  There is some distortion in louder, heavier bass parts of the show and there is also an issue early on that sounds like a flat spot on a tape head on the tape recorder/player or maybe just a tape issue where the audio goes between good and great sounding in waves.  But this clears up for the most part too as the show progresses.  And the instruments can easily be heard as can the vocals.  But again, the "flat spot on the tape head" sound does keep on chooglin' (or arising) and keeps appearing in various spots around the bend.  OK, enough CCR humor/analogy here.

There are some songs reportedly missing from what I researched and there are a few dropouts in the recording.  But it really does flow nicely in the show and it is not a big issue.

Thanks to "deadhead69" for sharing this one on Dime a while back.  I listened to the whole recording as I was preparing the post and it is really a nice one.  With so many CCR shows (audience and soundboard recordings) having distortion, being bad recordings, etc out there; it's nice to hear one you can actually understand and hear the different musicians equally on.  If it wasn't for the tape/recorder issue in the audio it would easily be an excellent recording.  But to a CCR fan, I think you'll like it just fine as is.  The guitar really sounds great in this show also!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Creedence Clearwater Revival: 1969-08-00 Chicago, IL (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

As I started preparing this show I was under the impression it was played 46 years ago today in Chicago, Illinois.  But as I started researching it two dates seemed to be the most likely and there were no confirmations of a "for sure" date I could find for the show.

The likely dates for this show were 1969-08-24 and 1969-08-19.  These were the two most commonly reported dates.  Even the artwork, which is way too low in resolution to even use the front art, just had "August 1969" on it.  And from internet research it looks like CCR was at Woodstock on 1969-08-16.  So either of the two dates could easily be correct.

This recording is a good sounding one meaning it isn't great.  It starts off with a few tape stops or dropouts and then as it draws closer to the end of the show it does start to sound a little better.  It isn't distorted really but the audio is mono, it is far off sounding, and it isn't clean and clear.  To be honest, the only reason I was uploading this performance today was because I thought it was the anniversary of it.  The audio does not fall into the poor category.  But it sure doesn't fall into the great category either.  If you know the band's music, then you know the lyrics and songs.  Otherwise, if you want to really understand what is being said in most of this recording, you might want to start off with a better sounding CCR show and get use to the lyrics.  The waveform showed no clipping in the audio in this show.

There was really no information given on this file set.  Ironically, as I was looking for information on the web, I came across a front piece of artwork for this show but in super low resolution (16.5 kb).  The file set had the back artwork in low resolution (46.5 kb) form so I cropped the bad edges on the artwork from a bad job done prior to me getting it and put them together and they're in the download.  But you will really want to find at least the front artwork in a better resolution and file size if you plan to print it.  It is thumbnail size now.

I'm a big fan of CCR's music but in this case I probably will never burn this show to CD.  I doubt the lineage gets much better as far as sound goes.  I could be wrong, but I doubt it.  I'll have to upload some more excellent CCR shows soon for those of you that are fans too.

Don't let my bad review of the sound demean the quality of the performance.  And even though the sound is not great, a lot of people may still enjoy listening to this recorded moment in history.  It's cool to have it rather than not to and wish you could at least hear it.  I've got a number of poor sounding Led Zeppelin shows too.  I want them; I just don't want to listen to them too often.  But sometimes I do and I try to enjoy the experience too.

I hope you enjoy the show..

Creedence Clearwater Revival: 1970-01-31 Oakland, CA (FLAC_SB_1 CD)

This is a superb soundboard recording of the Creedence Clearwater Revival show 45 years ago today.  The show is an excellent show as well.

I don't know much about this recording, but when I got it a few years back I put it to disc and gave it a good, loud listening and really enjoyed it.  While there are other CCR soundboards of course, I haven't seen a lot of superb sounding ones so far.  So this one is a must have for any CCR collector looking for a show they can crank up and listen to in hi fidelity.

The waveform looks as superb as the recording and there is no audio clipping.  I do not think this is an FM broadcast recording either.  It's listed as a soundboard and it has the fidelity of a soundboard that many times can be lost is the FM broadcast tapings of off-air recordings.  It isn't always lost, especially when someone does it right and has a good tape decks or other recording equipment and transfer methods.

But this is definitely one of the top CCR recordings never released that I have heard.  And being the 45th anniversary of the show and a fast upload, I figured I'd share it before we move into February shows tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy this show...

Creedence Clearwater Revival: 1971-07-16 Boston, MA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

Here is a great, 41 years ago today, 1971 CCR concert recorded by someone in the audience.  I've had this one for a while but have never put it to CD myself.  I am going to that after this upload!

I left the original source's text file showing the lineage and other information intact and in the zipped file.  I gave the tracks names/titles and track numbers and embedded them into the files.  So, if you have a CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player that shows song titles and similar information, it should display the track information as the CD plays.

There are not as many CCR bootlegs out there as one might expect.  I'm sure it's due primarily to their short lived career as a band.  Still, there are a number of shows.  But so many of them are from terrible to listenable (not too good) quality.  But this show, not being the best one I have either, sounds really good and clean.  The taper that recorded this show 41 years ago did a great job and you can crank this one up and listen to it loud.  I'm still wondering why I haven't put it to CD yet :-)
