Page & Pant: 1998-09-23 Las Vegas, NV (DVD_Pro Shot & AUD Shot_SB/Pre-FM Master Audio_1 DL DVD)

This version of this show was recently requested by a friend and I'm getting a chance to finally upload it tonight.  This is the upgraded version of the Las Vegas 1998 Page & Plant show and it uses the master pre-FM audio Jimmy Page reportedly did not want to use or air (it's excellent so I don't know why) rather than the mono audio on the more common version of the show from Third Eye.

The video is also made up of about 1/3 of the show sourced from a pro shot video source and then the other2/3 being sourced from the Third Eye audience shot source.  These are just rough estimates but I believe they're close.  The audio used throughout the whole show is the LPCM pre-FM soundboard master audio.  This is an excellent copy of the show and the very best I know of so far.

At first I thought the audio for the show was a matrix of the SB/pre-FM material and an audience audio source (probably Third Eye's recording).  But I realized this was not the case and this may be why Page didn't like this audio and did not want to air it.  It sounds like the crowd can definitely be heard in between songs louder than usual but still not at all bad sounding.  I actually like this audio better than if it had no crowd noise at all in between songs like some recordings have.  There is no explanations or information as to why Page did not like the audio and would not let it be aired.  And it's purely speculation on my part that it may be because it has a matrix and louder audience noise sound to it.

The text file that came with this DL DVD was very limited with information in it.  There was no lineage, no explaining anything, and really nothing other than a setlist and some basic here it is.  The sharing party did state they had higher expectations and plans for the project but they didn't have time to do the work they'd wanted to do so they were just uploading it.  And that's fine.  There is no menu but there are chapters for each song.

I have no idea if the rest of the show had been professionally shot or where this pro shot part of it came from.  But thankfully it was available to add.  And of course Third Eye's work, as almost always, is very good too.

I recently got the full 2 DVD Third Eye copy of this same Las Vegas show and I may upload it too eventually.  But since this copy is the better copy and a definite upgrade as far as sound and video goes, it was an easy choice to upload this LPCM audio copy with a good amount of pro shot video.  And it was the copy requested anyhow.

I hope you enjoy the show...

REO Speedwagon: 1983-05-03 Milwaukee, WI (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM/LP_Bootradr Remaster_1 CD)

This is an excellent/superb REO Speedwagon recording from a show on their 1983 tour while in Milwaukee.  I want to try and get a few Gary Richrath shows up over the next few weeks  in memory of his passing away.  He led REO Speedwagon on a rock 'n' roll ride for many years up through 1989 when he was let go.  And on September 13th, 2015 he passed away at the age of 65.

NOTES:
(1) "Bobobo" removed all commercials that were on the LP's and left the Supergroups intro/outtro tracks at the beginning and end of the LP's.

(2) I did not EQ the audio in this project.  The left channel was clipped very badly and the right channel had some light clipping.  So I only made repairs and fixed the audio clipping and balanced the audio channels before normalizing.

As I mentioned the other day in a post, Gary Richrath was not happy with the way REO Speedwagon's music was changing after their album Hi Infidelity (which was the band's catapult from a known band to a superstar status band).  And this 1983 show being shared now is a good example of what Richrath was not happy with.  Even though the classics are still in the show, the new songs many people today still don't know like "Let's BeBop" were being brought in by Kevin Cronin in an attempt to take the band towards the newer 1980's pop and ballads sound.  And Gary did not like this at all.

I really side with Gary Richrath on his dislike of many of the songs REO started putting out after they became a household name.  I liked a lot of them, but some I could not stand and I wondered "what are they trying to do...kill their momentum" back in the days.

Today, I have more appreciation for the songs Kevin was trying to bring into the band in their mid through late 1980's era.  But they still do not compare in most cases to the earlier rock songs the band had been playing and performing live for over a decade in my opinion either.  And the band's album sales also supported Richrath's dislike of the new "trendy" sounding songs too.

REO Speedwagon soon found a balance of both the classic rock tunes as well as the new ones they were bringing into the band.  But Gary was too far gone by this point and he left REO Speedwagon never to return as a member again.  Ironically; the songs that get the most play today by REO Speedwagon in their r live shows and on the radio too are the songs Gary Richrath played on (and many he wrote) and helped cement the sound of when he was with the band for two decades.

This is an excellent-to-superb transfer of the pre-FM LP's via a USB turntable (all digital) and there are very, very few indications of "snap, crackle, or pop" in the recording.  When pops or crackling is seldom heard it's between songs in the quiet parts of the LP.  This LP has been taken care of very well it sounds like.

A special thanks goes to "bobobo" for sharing this excellent LP rip and work.  He's done some superb digital transfers from the original Pre-FM LP's of many REO Speedwagon shows and he has shared each one too.  I really appreciate his help and the work he has done.  Thanks for the help you've been to me specifically "bobobo" in not only information on REO Speedwagon recordings but in other details too in their shows over the last couple of years!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Aerosmith: 1975-08-29 New York, NY (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM_1 CD)

This Aerosmith concert at the Schaeffer Music Festival in New York was 40 years ago today.  This is a Thir13en Remaster and is really an excellent-to-superb sounding recording too.  This was a King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcasted performance.

The sound as I mentioned is excellent-to-superb and the performance is good.  The waveform has no audio clipping.  But it looks like it could have and it was repaired (maybe in the remastering).  If this is the case, The source is a DR Radio Networks silver CD from 1992.  The audio has very good stereo separation in the recording too.

There was only the CD (looks like an LP) sleeve and the CD from KBFH scanned together as the artwork.  And I'm sure that's what "Thir13en" had available too.  I cropped each making two separate images.  I found another low resolution (actually a few) artwork scan and added it to the artwork folder also for anyone that prints artwork for their CD cases.

Aerosmith is a band I like but not one I am as big of a collector or fan of after their 1975 to 1978 shows.  I do have shows and DVD's of them in later years also, but I think they really rocked the best in 1973-1974 when they were new and before 1979 when they fell apart due to their massive drug addictions and feuding.  And since I have pretty much said what I have to say about Aerosmith in past postings of their shows I have made, I really don't have any more to say about this show other than it sounds excellent-to-superb and I already said that.

I hope you enjoy the show...

I was going to upload a similar set by Liquid Led, but it did not have the complete show audience recording.  I hate the Beelzebub label's name, so when I can use a label's file set other than theirs, I do.  But in this case, I cannot.

Unfortunately, the FM broadcast cuts "How Many More Times" off after about two minutes or so.  And the audience recording is not the best in this file set either.  But it is complete and has the complete "How Many More Times" as well as "Train Kept A Rollin'", "White Summer", and "Black Mountain Side" too.  It's too bad the whole show was not broadcast.  But I am thankful for what was and how great it sounds too.

One thing I noticed, and checked in the audience recording too, is the placement of the song "I Can't Quit You baby" and "I Gotta" Move" in the Pre-FM recordings.  It looks like they FM broadcast recordings rearranged the setlist to have "I Can't Quit You Baby" first and then "I Gotta Move" after it.  But the truth is that it seems that is not the correct order of the actual show.

This file set has a long path!  Be sure to unzip it into a short (in fact very short...like "0") folder name and then do any renaming if you don't like my file set structure's name.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Atlanta Rhythm Section: 1977-01-25 New York, NY (FLAC_SB/Pre & Studio_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of the Atlanta Rhythm Section show 38 years ago today in New York.  This is a band that I really started checking out only a few years ago.  I'd heard of them before but for some reason was misled and thought they played movie soundtracks. I didn't realize they were rock 'n' roll oriented.

I'm still not real familiar with their music even thought I've heard a number of their songs before growing up.  This 2 CD set is a live performance that occurred 38 years ago today and there are three bonus studio outtakes of "So Into You" at the end.

Thanks goes to "Scooter" for the sharing of this recording.

The waveform looks excellent in this recording with no audio clipping at all.

The three outtakes at the end (or on CD 2) were not all listed in the download and there were two tracks titled "So Into You (outtake 1)."  Obviously, there can't be two "outtake 1" recordings.  But they are different file sizes so I just left things "as is" there.

I'd planned on uploading this show, a Rory Gallagher show from 41 years ago today, and maybe another "XX years ago today" show or two.  But I laid down this afternoon and spent Sunday sleeping like a rock.  I guess I needed some rest or something.  I may or may not upload the Rory Gallagher show too.  We'll see!

I hope you enjoy this show..

Lynyrd Slynyrd: 1973-10-30 Memphis, TN (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM Master Reel_1 CD)

NOTE (2015-09-04):  I just became aware this morning that this show had been an officially release item as a 2 disc set in 2000.  Even though it is now out of print (OOP), the songs can still be purchased individually online.  For this reason I am pulling the link to this recording so as to not break any copyright infringement laws.  Thanks to Mick for letting me know about this too!

This is a superb soundboard of Lynyrd Skynyrd in Memphis playing a concert.  This recording is so superb that I waited a while before uploading it to see if it was an official release.  I was convinced it had to be from how good it sounded.  But I find no release of this material and I'm going ahead and uploading it here now for you to enjoy.  I just wish it was the whole show that was available!

By the way, I did not misspell "Greese" either :-)  It's the way it is spelled on the artwork.

I've not uploaded too many of the Lynyrd Skynyrd shows I have yet.  I really started getting into them a lot more about four years ago as I saw some videos of them live and heard how tight they were playing together.  What a shame they couldn't stick around (the original band that is) just a little longer and have kept on making great songs and putting on great shows.

I hope you enjoy this show...

I love how great the Westwood One LP's "bobobo" has shared sound.  He has helped REO fans out a lot by his generous sharing of his collection he has built over the years, and not only of REO Speedwagon but of other artists too.  He has obviously taken excellent care of his LP's and his transfers of the LP's to digital formats like this one via a USB turntable are superb.  There is no clipping of the audio and everything looks and sounds perfect.

One thing I also love about these Westwood One broadcasts, or in this case a pre-FM recording, is how Gary Richrath's guitar always seems to stand out and he jams with his unique sound.  After Richrath's departure from the band in 1989, I really had thought the band would not survive without the Richrath guitar playing.  And I still felt this way early on when Dave Amato replaced Gary Richrath.  But thankfully, and pretty quickly too, Dave Amato took the music of REO Speedwagon and he learned it and fit right in on tours.  He is still REO's lead guitarist 25 years later and he has kept the band alive musically.  To me, the guitar playing in REO Speedwagon is one of the primary factors in why they're so good.  Of course the songs and every band member's playing are just as important to the band's success.  But to me the guitar was an irreplaceable part of the 1970's through 1980's REO.  But they found the one guitarist, Dave Amato, who was in it for the long haul and has been spectacular at making the songs
from before he was even in the band sound right.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Queen: 1974-03-31 London, England (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM 2nd Gen Reel_96/24 & 44/16 Copies_1 CD)

I have a few versions of this show but this one and one other are my favorites.  The other is a 1st generation transfer from the master multitrack reel and I may upload it too tonight (actually becoming morning now).  I thought this version being uploaded came from the same source reel earlier, but now I'm not so sure?  It is a 2nd generation copy from a master reel too but has more tracks than the multitrack version does.

I'm uploading the second generation 96 kHz/24 bit version as well as the CD standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit version I down sampled too for anyone just wanting the CD standard, ready to burn-to-disc version.  There will be links for both versions below.

As I mentioned, this copy has a few extra tracks the mutitrack version doesn't have.  And the sound is incredible too even though it is not quiet as sharp as the multitrack version's sound.  Still, I may prefer this version a little more because of the bass end being heard better and the overall mix in the recording.  I definitely like the fact it is more complete also!

This is a superb recording of a Queen show from the days when they were just starting out.  I believe they started in 1973 using the name Queen for the band.  But there are not a lot of great sounding recordings from that era of their history.  There are a few recordings out there but they are not very good sounding as far as the audio quality goes.

I thought I had this show on DVD too.  But it turns out being the 1974-11-20 performance Queen did at the same venue in England that I have.  After I finish uploading the 1974-03-31 material I may upload some early 1970's Queen concert DVD's I have that are pro shot.  The quality looks excellent.  I haven't watched the DVD's in five years or more.  But I'll look at the details on the DVD and upload the video of the concert soon if everything checks out good.

My favorite era of Queen music is the 1970's - mid 1980's.  I know a lot of people like the latter years when the band mellowed out a lot and Freddie Mercury was nearing his death.  But I just don't like that era as much myself.
I like the rocking era of Queen when Brian May played guitar solos and the band was energetic.  But that's just my preference.  I have a lot of Queen material, most from the 1970's, and I do have material that covers all years.  I figure it's about time I upload a little of it now!

After that last paragraph I got to looking around for a few Queen early years pro shot DVD's and I found some.  As I get some things done around my house today, I may get these DVD's uploading.  I may wait until I can individually create a detailed text file for each or I may go ahead and upload the 6 - 9 GB's of files and let you, the downloader, just copy and paste into a text file what you're reading here.  After all, other than a few changes I make, that is what I'm doing anyhow.  We'll see!

I hope you enjoy this concert...

Procol Harum: 1971-04-12 NeYork, NY (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM_1 CD)

This is a superb sounding recording of a classic rock band I have not listened to very much over the years.  In a way, I guess Procol Harum sort of fell between the cracks in my listening?  This recording was a radio broadcast by WPLJ FM 95.5 MHz.  But it was not an off-air recording made by someone recording the broadcast most collectors are certain.  It is a Pre-FM recording almost certainly.  Either way, it is superb in sound and stereo separation too.

As I listen to this show preparing this blog entry, I am really unfamiliar with the songs.  I don't know the band's history or story either.  However, as I'm guessing most people who've listened to the radio through the 1970's (and before or after to a point) know, we've all heard of Procol Harum.  Some are much more familiar with their music I'm sure.  But I feel like a newbie on this one.

I'm guessing this is a British Invasion band from the accent of the singer.  He definitely has the "England" dialect when speaking.  To me, some songs are better than others.  But overall, it's an enjoyable listening experience.

One thing is for sure.  After hearing such a good recording of the band today, I think I'll try a few more of their shows as I come across them.  This was my first and only Procol Harum show that I obtained earlier today.  And now, I'm sharing it with you too.  See what you think?

Rush: 1974-08-26 Cleveland, OH (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM Master_1 CD)

Here is an superb recording of a very early Rush show from the Agora Ballroom in their 1974 stage of the band's career.  Really, it's from their beginnings.  It's a Pre-FM soundboard master copy and it is their complete show including the song "Garden Road" which was left off of most lesser quality copies in earlier trading years.

No breakdown of the lineage was really given for this source other than it was from the Pre-FM disc master.  But I did the usual confirming of the audio file set to make sure the tracks were CDDA (or lossless) quality and I created my own ffp (file fingerprint) and md5 (checksum) files and verified them too before uploading it.  I also aligned the tracks on sector boundaries since the last track, "Garden Road", failed the SBE (sector boundary error) check in Trader''s Little Helper.

This is by far the cleanest, and as I mentioned also complete, copy of this show I've heard.  Reportedly it is directly from the master recording so it really can't get any better than this.

Rush was a new band and this show, as well as a few other 1974 shows promoted by an American FM radio employee who heard them from Canadian FM broadcasts across the border and contacted them, was part of what launched the band's career into its future rock star status.  Neil Peart, Rush's drummer, had only been a member of the band a month when this show was performed.  Many people think Peart wast a founding member of Rush, but in reality, he wasn't.  He might as well have been for his contribution in writing so many of their songs through the years.  But the first, self-titled album Rush, released in 1974, does not have Peart on it because he wasn't their drummer yet.  What a great addition he made to the new band and such a huge contribution I'm sure nobody could have foreseen at the time either.

I hope you enjoy this very early and superb sounding Rush show...

I left the original uploader's fileset intact and changed nothing.  This is just how I got it.  There is reportedly a "remastered version" out there, but why this recording needed to be remastered is beyond me.  It is excellent/superb sounding and complete.  I think the remastered version was done on an earlier copy, not as pristine as this one I'm uploading, and that was probably why it was done a while back.  Even though I do not have the remastered copy, I do believe this one will be much better that it was at the time it was shared.

I hope you enjoy the recording...

Rush: 1978-12-02 Detroit, MI (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

Here is another excellent Rush show from their Hemispheres Tour in 1978.  This one is also a sopundboard recording and the full show too.  It sounds excellent.  It borders on superb, and after listening to it again later today, I may come back and upgrade it to superb here.  I don't know the full story on this show and the previously uploaded 197811-20 Tucson show less than two weeks earlier, but they sound a lot alike.  I don't mean they are the same show because they are not.  But the quality and soundboard recording has the same or very similar mixes.  I'm guessing here, but I wonder if someone from the Rush camp got hold of these and made them available many years ago.  Who knows, but a lot of shows from this time period of Rush concerts sound this way and I don't think it's a coincidence either.

There are no interruptions due to crowds crushing people or making the stage start to collapse in this show as in the 1978 Tucson, Arizona show.  At least if there were any, nobody said anything about it.  The band, as always, plays a superb show and they do so impeccably too.

I don't really have a lot more to say about the show because it's been a long time since I've listened to it.  But once I get a few things done today, I'm planning on cranking it up and listening again later.  In fact, I may upload a 1974 Rush show a little later if I have time and I'd like to listen to it again first too because it's been too many years since I have.  We'll see how much time I have to do what I want to do today :-)

Enjoy the show...

Boston: 1977-03-19 Long Beach, CA (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM_1 CD)

Here is another superb quality Boston show that comes from a pre-FM source (it wasn't recorded off-air by someone at home).  This is reportedly the full show and it was broadcast later (1977-10-16 most likely) in the year by the radio program King Biscuit Flower Hour.  A lot of artwork has the wrong date on it.  Many versions show October 16, 1977.  But the chances are better that this was the date it was broadcast because it definitely wasn't the concert date.

This show and the 1976-09-27 Cleveland, Ohio show I just uploaded are two of (if not the two) best sounding unreleased shows in circulation.  They are superb in quality.

On a side note, as I was searching for artwork for this specific upload, I came across an exciting fact.  Boston is releasing a new album on 2013-12-03 (in the USA anyhow).  It is not a "greatest hits" type reissue either and has all new, unreleased tracks.  According to the official Boston website, it has tracks with Brad Delp, Tommy DeCarlo, Kimberley Dahme, David Victor, and Tom Scholz on vocals.  And according to Boston's Tom Scholz, "...They have all been meticulously recorded to analogue tape on the same machines and equipment used for Boston's hits for the past 35 years."  The album was reportedly made over 10 years ago and is now officially being released.  If you are a Boston fan, buy it!  I always believe in supporting the artists we like by buying their officially released music.  I'll be buying it for sure!

I hope you enjoy this superb Long Beach 1977 show too...

Journey: 1978-06-10 Passaic, NJ (FLAC_Pre-FM Remaster_1 CD)

This is an excellent remastering job on a Journey show from Passaic, New Jersey in 1978.  This is a digitally transferred pre-FM recording and sounds so much better than the other sources floating around that were just FM radio-to-tape recordings done across the country.  This is the best sounding version of this show I've heard and a lot of time was taken to make this recording just right.  Thanks to "msg" for sharing this recording.  This recording was aired live on WNEW FM as it was being recorded in 1978.

1978-06-10 Passaic, NJ (SB/Pre-FM Remaster of "The Band Plays On")

My very first Journey bootleg was a much, much lesser and unbalanced silver CD I got from Japan titled "Beginning The Lights".  I was happy with it so you can imagine how much more happy I've been in recent years when better recordings and remastered jobs were done to create excellent sounding versions (and more complete too) like this upload.

You can tell the mobile studio doing the recording was unprepared for the show to start at the beginning of the CD.  The announcer mentions the new technology allowing them to record from a mobile command post and view what was going on via a TV monitor as opposed to being inside of the venue and broadcasting live from there.  I just wonder if the video feed they were seeing was ever professionally recorded?  I'd love to see it.  I've seen a black and white "Winds of March" from this show and I imagine that's from the feed going to the mobile setup outside of the venue.  Wow, how things have changed since those days :-)

I like to add a folder many times and leave the original creator/uploader's text files in it so others can see what they said or see any technical data if there is any.  I've done this with this show.

This is an excellent, crank it up loud recording and I hope you enjoy it...

Here's a great, pitch corrected copy of the whole 1980-04-12 Journey show filmed and recorded at the Houston Summit.  While it was filmed with camera's also, very little video (4 - 5 songs) has ever surfaced from the film of the show.  The recorded audio has also been aired over the radio a few times since 1980 (I've yet to hear it, but in the day good concerts were done this way many times).  But most times, it is not the complete show aired and it has been formatted to fit into the time-frame of the FM broadcast slot too

This is an excellent sounding show and performance from Journey just one year before they hit "super-stardom" with their "Escape" album in 1981.  While us traders have shared everything from VHS tapes with horizontal lines across the screen to early DVD-/+R copies of the 1981 Houston Summit video through the years, the need for those bootleg copies of the 1981-11-06 (1 1/2 years after the show being uploaded here) audio/video have disappeared since Journey officially released that show on DVD in 2005 (finally).  If you're interested in buying the Dolby 5.1 surround sound 1 DVD and 1 CD official release of the show from 1981, it is titled "Journey - Live in Houston 1981 Escape Tour" and can be purchased from a number of locations selling officially released items.  It's super easy to locate and is on the Sony label.  I strongly recommend buying a copy (and it has bonus promos, features, etc from Journey too) and supporting your favorite artists of all types (whoever they may be) at the same time!

Through the years, ALL of the bootlegs of this 1980 show being uploaded today have run slightly slow.  The pitch needed adjusting for the show to run just like it would've live.  And thankfully, we now have a lossless quality (FLAC) version of the show running just at the right speed (this 2 CD upload) thanks to fellow traders/collectors who took the time to correct the show's audio.

If you like Journey, well, you will want to get this show!

always!  Now, back to the original blog post.

I do have another (a few actually) recording of this show that is straight from the silver CDs.  It is titled "Superstars In Concert" (from the "Superstars In Concert Series" radio broadcasts back in the day).  It is an A++ Pre-FM soundboard recording too and it has extra tracks not on this CD set from the interviews with Steve Perry and other Journey members from the night of this 1980 concert.  It is incredible sounding.  But, as with other non pitch corrected versions of this show, it is running just a little bit slow.  You might not notice it if you didn't have an ear for music (or even if you did...I missed it for years) or ever been told.  And if I can ever get it pitch corrected, I guarantee you I will be uploading it.  While it is superior in sound and has the extra interviews included, don't let yourself be discouraged by this recording because it is excellent too!

By the way, the background image I'm currently using here on my site is from the Fort Worth Tarrant County Convention Center show from 1980-04-10.  That's just two days before the show I'm uploading.  I hope one day a bootleg of the Fort Worth show will surface!!!

Enjoy the show...
