Fleetwood Mac: 1977-12-05 Tokyo, Japan (Video_Pro Shot_1 DVD)

This is an excellent video of Fleetwood Mac from 38 years ago (and a few hours) as they finished their tour in Japan on the Rumors tour.  The video seems to be sourced from about 3 different sources from what I can tell.  A good remastering of this video would make for a great project.  However, it is already a great-to-excellent copy I think and a very enjoyable viewing experience.

I had mistakenly put this show into a folder for December 6th otherwise I would have uploaded it yesterday on its anniversary.  So it is one day later than its 38th anniversary due to my mistake.

(4) 1977-12-05 Tokyo, Japan (Pro Shot DVD)

This is not the complete concert unfortunately.  I'm not sure if the full concert has ever surfaced to be honest.  And as I mentioned earlier, I think this is a video sourced from three different sources.  One source has no time stamp, one has one time stamp, and the third has three time stamps on the screen.

Some of the various sources for this DVD reportedly are from a TV program that was being made for the Japan show(s) that never got released and some live performances as well as outtakes (or rehearsals) too.  It is a confusing mess of information really.

The quality varies in the different videos.  There is some static in some songs that seems a little heavier in the right channel and other songs are clean and clear.  If I really knew the story on these videos and the whole project it would be easier to explain the differences in the video/songs.  But the songs were arranged in the correct order they were played live reportedly.  So even though the December 5th video is not complete at least the video is in the right order with what is on it.

I like Fleetwood Mac and that helps me rate this video higher.  But if you don't like them, well, this might be only as high as a great on your scale (see ratings).  But to me, even with the flaws, I still rate this one as a great-to-excellent DVD.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Pant: 1998-09-23 Las Vegas, NV (DVD_Pro Shot & AUD Shot_SB/Pre-FM Master Audio_1 DL DVD)

This version of this show was recently requested by a friend and I'm getting a chance to finally upload it tonight.  This is the upgraded version of the Las Vegas 1998 Page & Plant show and it uses the master pre-FM audio Jimmy Page reportedly did not want to use or air (it's excellent so I don't know why) rather than the mono audio on the more common version of the show from Third Eye.

The video is also made up of about 1/3 of the show sourced from a pro shot video source and then the other2/3 being sourced from the Third Eye audience shot source.  These are just rough estimates but I believe they're close.  The audio used throughout the whole show is the LPCM pre-FM soundboard master audio.  This is an excellent copy of the show and the very best I know of so far.

At first I thought the audio for the show was a matrix of the SB/pre-FM material and an audience audio source (probably Third Eye's recording).  But I realized this was not the case and this may be why Page didn't like this audio and did not want to air it.  It sounds like the crowd can definitely be heard in between songs louder than usual but still not at all bad sounding.  I actually like this audio better than if it had no crowd noise at all in between songs like some recordings have.  There is no explanations or information as to why Page did not like the audio and would not let it be aired.  And it's purely speculation on my part that it may be because it has a matrix and louder audience noise sound to it.

The text file that came with this DL DVD was very limited with information in it.  There was no lineage, no explaining anything, and really nothing other than a setlist and some basic here it is.  The sharing party did state they had higher expectations and plans for the project but they didn't have time to do the work they'd wanted to do so they were just uploading it.  And that's fine.  There is no menu but there are chapters for each song.

I have no idea if the rest of the show had been professionally shot or where this pro shot part of it came from.  But thankfully it was available to add.  And of course Third Eye's work, as almost always, is very good too.

I recently got the full 2 DVD Third Eye copy of this same Las Vegas show and I may upload it too eventually.  But since this copy is the better copy and a definite upgrade as far as sound and video goes, it was an easy choice to upload this LPCM audio copy with a good amount of pro shot video.  And it was the copy requested anyhow.

I hope you enjoy the show...

YouTube Sample

The video is really clean and nice looking in this show and the audio is great but not excellent.  I'm not sure if the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio stream is really necessary.  The build of the DVD does have the two audio streams with one being 2 channel (2.0) and the other being 6 channel (5.1).  But the 2 channel audio sounded better, louder, and it is the stream I watched the most as I was previewing the DVD the other day.

There are some audio issues.  But you get use to them.  There are some crackle and pops at times which I guess come from the VHS tape.  The video looks like it has been rendered and possibly color enhanced/corrected too.  I wish I could have watched more of the video before making this post but I wasn't able too.  The audio changes a few times in the concert but you get adjusted to it and it really is not bad.  I just wish it was a more hi fidelity sounding  audio track and a steady and unchanging track as well.  I really cannot add any more without more research and investigating the DVD more closely when I have time to.

One thing I like is in the bonus features.  It is the two and a half minute picture/slideshow to a Queen song I'm not familiar with.  It's a slideshow with the audio track (like an audio DVD).  The additional bonus features such as the interviews and sound check are all picked from the main menu of the DVD.  The same goes for the audio stream you want to use.  Personally, I always use my remote control and switch between the audio streams on DVD's with more than one.  But you can make the choice from the menu too.

I hope you enjoy the show...

REO Speedwagon: 1971-XX-XX Carbondale, IL (DVD_Pro Shot_LPCM_1 DVD)

If anyone hasn't heard yet, REO Speedwagon's founding member Gary Richrath passed away on 2015-09-13 (Sunday).  I just learned of it this morning and I'm not sure what the details are on his death.  But he was one of the best rock 'n' roll guitarists of his time and a key reason REO Speedwagon made it so big in their later years.

I'm uploading a better copy (audio wise) of this 1971 PBS TV appearance on a program called The Sessions today.  I've built my own DVD with menus and cool junk.  But it was not an LPCM audio copy and this one being shared is.  This copy has automatic 10 minute chapters and looks like it was transferred via a standalone DVD burner too.

I am not sure where I got this copy and it possibly even came from Dime?  The text file I just noticed mentions it had been on Dime so that makes it even more likely.  I'll include the original text file too.  I've tried to determine who shared it but have not had any luck.  But to whoever shared this to begin with, thanks definitely goes to that person!

REO Speedwagon, formed in 1967, stayed pretty much the same as far as members of the group went throughout the years with a few exceptions.  This video was shot before members Kevin Cronin (vocals) or Bruce Hall (bass) were in the band.  And years later, as they were transitioning from a more classic rock with a lot of guitar type of band to a more ballads type of band, Gary Richrath did not like this.  I personally like both eras of the band's music but I really like the 1981 and earlier REO Speedwagon the best where Richrath played awesome solos in the songs.

In 1989, after the band decided to stop the partying and clean up their act, Gary Richrath did not want to go the direction the rest of the band was going.  He was upset by the music and he had been getting more and more heavily into drug use which the rest of the band had reportedly stopped doing at this point.  So the band fired him and replaced him with Dave Amoto.

Richrath made an attempt at playing his own solo music and tours briefly, but that was short lived.  He just sort of disappeared from the public eye and not much was heard of him or from him after that.  He did appear on stage and plat with REO Speedwagon once more in 2013 at a benefit show to the surprise of the crowd.  But two years later, he's now gone for good sadly.

This is a superb capture of the band when the lineup had Terry Luttrell on vocals and Gregg Philbin on bass.  The other members were future and even present members that stuck with the band for a long time through the years and they include Neal Doughty on keyboards, Alan Gratzer on drums, and of course the now late Gary Richrath.

I'm not 100% sure who is with REO Speedwagon today, but I do know a few of the early and possibly original lineup is still with them.  And most members have been there from the 1970's I believe.  Either Doughty or Gratzer recently retired I believe but I know Kevin Cronin, Bruce Hall, and Dave Amato (joined in 1990 I believe) are definitely with REO Speedwagon today and they are constantly touring and rocking.  I've seen them so many times and recorded so many shows of them over the years I cannot even remember how many times it has been.

I added a few screen shots from the video at the bottom of this post.  So as a tribute to Gary Richrath, here is an early look into REO Speedwagon.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Kiss: 1979-01-29 Detroit,I (Pro Shot DVD)

Here's a show from Kiss that they played in Detroit, Michigan 38 years ago today.  This is an excellent video too.  Not being a huge Kiss collector or fan, even though I do like them, I'm not as familiar with their shows and only started collecting some over the last two years.

This is an excellent recording of an excellent show and I am uploading it "as is"."  That means I am uploading it as I make this post and I made no changes to the original file set I got.  I've added nothing and have taken nothing away from it.  This enables me to get the show uploading since it will take a while and at the same time work on this post and the posts for a number of other shows I'd like to post that historically occurred on January 29, 19XX.

If I have time and haven't already uploaded some of these shows, I plan on trying to get Led Zeppelin's 1975-01-29, Rory Gallagher's 1977-01-29, Pink Floyd's 1977-01-29, and Aerosmith's 1977-01-29 shows uploaded today too.  Man, there was a ton of rock 'n' roll concerts going on 38 years ago today as well as Led Zeppelin's show from 40 years ago today.  I'll definitely get the Zeppelin show up but I will decide what (if not all) other shows I can get uploaded today too as the day progresses.

One thing I like about this show from what I've watched so far is the mix.  The guitars really stand out it sounds like and I like a rockin' guitar sound.

The first audio stream is a remastered audio of the 2 channel Dolby Digital audio and the second audio stream is the original 2 channel Dolby Digital audio track from the video.  I think the remastered audio was what I was listening to and liked.  The switching between the two audio streams can be done via the DVD menu or via your DVD/Blu-Ray player remote control (in most cases).

This is obviously not the complete show I'd guess.  But it is a great portion of it at near an hour long.  And Detroit was a city Kiss was really big in too.  I'm surprised there is no "Detroit Rock City" played this night.  But for all I know, maybe that song had not been made yet?

I hope you enjoy the show...

I saw The Firm a few months after this December 1984 London show in Houston.  It was my first time seeing Jimmy Page perform live (as well as Paul Rodgers too).  It was a great concert and one I still have some memorabilia from at my house down in Houston.  I had climbed up a little and removed a big, bright lightbulb out of the roof of the Houston Summit :-)  Don't ask me why...it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

The Firm returned to Houston again one year later and I got to go see them a second time.  But after that, they were done.  And I soon afterwards discovered the world of live recordings and taping.  And that has led (or Led) me to posting this show for others to enjoy.

I hope you enjoy the concert and bonus materials...

Robin Trower: 1977-11-25 Nidnight Special (Pro Shot DVD)

This is an excellent DVD, however a short one, of Robin Trower performing on the old TV show Midnight Special that was hosted by Wolfman Jack in the 1970's.  This is a short, four song television appearance but it is the sharpest and best one I have seen for this performance.  The video is sharper in close up shots and a little blurry in zoomed out ones.  But the colors are rich and great looking.  It also has tiny horizontal lines that can be seen but they're the type that don't take away from the video really.

This is not a YouTube lossy copy creation or anything like that.  I checked the specifications with software that shows it is a lossless source and would let me know if it had been sourced from a lossy video source.  While I've never uploaded a DVD this small if file size, it makes perfect sense it is not 1 GB+ in size being that it is not HD and it is a short video.

This is a really great capture of the performances on the show and a much cleaner looking and sounding copy I got a few years ago.  Prior to that, I'd only had some poor video copies and a few lossless ones too.  I was glad to find this one.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Jimi Hendrix: 1970-07-30 Maui, HI (Pro Shot DVD_Mike Parker Project)

This is my favorite Jimi Hendrix video.  Had the creators of the Rainbow Bridge documentary and interviews video had the foresight to make something like this, it would have been a stellar release officially.  But they didn't.  This blows the other release away.

I had no information on this video other than what was in my memory and on the back of the artwork.  I somehow, and likely on a crashed hard drive, lost the original text file with the information on this project.  But I found what I was looking for information wise, the majority of the important information from the text file, and it is copied and pasted at the end of this posting.

For the lineage and details on this recording and project by Mike Parker, you can also see the artwork below.  I do know this project was meticulously created by Parker and he spent a very long time putting it together.  Read the bottom of the artwork's back cover for some additional interesting details.

There was a first and second show this day in Hawaii.  This was the common practice of the day with bands having an early and late show (how excellent would that be).  I do not know if there is any mixing of the two shows in the video?  I do know there is video with bright sunlight, some more cloudy looking, and some with the sun setting (as the video ends in fact) too.  But there is no nighttime video on the DVD so I am guessing this was the early or first show.

Rather than surmise as I was doing in the above paragraph, I went ahead and hooked up the drive with the Hendrix recordings of both shows and confirmed things.  This is definitely the first show!  Interestingly, the show doesn't end like it does on the DVD.  On the DVD it looks as if there is a reprise of "
Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)."  But in all honesty, the first concert of the day ends with "Ezy Rider" and everything from chapters 16 through 18 are additions to the project.  I'd thought Hendrix ended the show the way the DVD looks like it ends.  That would have been a very cool ending and I'm glad that Mike Parker ended it the way he did.

OK, I found the original information
on T.U.B.E.'s site after a little internet research.  I've not going to re-download the show to get the text file.  Especially since he copied and pasted the important pasts of it on his site like I'm doing here now :-)

TAKEN FROM ORIGINAL TEXT FILE (Copy & Pasted):

"This an amazing document of the Rainbow Bridge Concert, made by Mike Parker, with almost all of the available concert footage plus some great filler footage, all synched to the soundboard audio. A true piece of art!

Sourcing info, to give credit where credit is due:

I made this. It is the 25 minutes of Rainbow Bridge Jimi Hendrix footage, 20 minutes of outtakes, and the Strange Day On Maui footage (about 10 minutes), all re-synced to the songboard audio. The songs are full-length, although the film footage is not. The gaps are filled in with Maui footage, 60`s stuff, surfing footage, and Strange Day On Maui footage.

The audio is the overdubbed-drums source, the only one available, so the drums are out of sync a bit. It's hardly noticeable though. Hope you all enjoy it.

Mike Parker

About this project: Originally all I was going to do was sync the 20 minutes of silent outtake footage (end of Hear My Train>Voodoo Child>beginning of Ezy Ryder). But after that was done, I thought, well, why not continue with the movie footage too? The audio on RB was pretty poor. Then there was the Strange Day On Maui footage to deal with. Univibes magazine had an issue about silent Jimi footage that gave me a good reference guide to what was being played during all that double-image footage, so that was a huge help. Ezy Ryder & Message To Love footage was just too dark or had too much double imaging to be able to really sync it up. There's enough there to get an idea of that's going on though.

I wanted to keep the songs full-length, so began to think about what to use for filling in the gaps. There was some nice footage in RB of the people walking to the concert, some skinny-dippers, volcano footage, and film of Jimi's girlfriend Pat Hartley wandering around Maui. Plus lots of great surfing footage. Love that surfboard-cam shot!

So I used all the RB footage I could, then went looking for footage at a video store. Hawaiian Paradise was a cheesy travelog video, has some nice volcano footage with beautiful sunrises, and that great 1940's Maui footage. Endless Summer has one chapter on Maui, that footage is from 1964. check out that spill where the cameraman gets bonked in the head (& the surfing babes). Easy Rider, well that's all the actual motorcycle riding footage from the movie. The 60's protest/Vietnam footage fit perfectly in the large gap during Hear My Train A'Coming. I also used all the non-Jimi footage from Strange Day On Maui as a tribute to Duff Hendrickson, who filmed the actual footage.

this project was made on an eMac, using Final Cut Express. My very first video project. I think it turned out well. By the way I am a long-time Jimi Hendrix collector, if anone out there has any unreleases/uncirculated film footage, recordings, or photos gathering dust, I would love to hear from you. Doesn't matter if the audio is poor or if the film/photos are grainy, it's all worth checking out.
Any Jimi is good Jimi. Same goes for John Coltrane audio, ect. You can contact me at jimiclones (at) yahoo (dot) com."

Whew!  What should have taken an hour or 90 minutes tops has taken a few hours already!  I should be use to that by now though.  I'm not going to half way do something if I can avoid it and if it takes longer to make it more accurate, helpful, and complete; then I'm happy to do it (and happier to get it done).

So now that we all know what the story is here, and for the most part what we want to know, it's time to upload this gem so you can download and enjoy it too!

UPDATE (2015-02-12:
I'd originally stated this concert was from the first set out of two on this day in 1970.  But it actually is a mix of both sets now that I notice the setlist and songs in them as I prepare the upload of the SB/AUD group matrix.patch project I am uploading.  So I just wanted to make a fast update over here to clarify this!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Rush: 1994-03-22 Auburn Hills. MI (Pro Shot DVD_2 DVD)

This is a superb two disc pro shot Rush concert from 1994.  This is without any doubt one of the best videos to have ever surfaced from the band live.  The picture quality as well as the audio are spectacular and the performance is just as amazing.  I've had this DVD for a long time.  My first DVD of it was a 1 DVD copy that was nowhere near as good of a video or audio source as this project's sources.  And around 2009 or 2010 I got this source being shared somewhere (sorry, I cannot recall where or who to think).  The additional detail I got from another site sharing it too and they obviously had the text file I did not have.

This is a must have for any Rush fan!

It seems nobody knows the story on how this show surfaced.  If they do, they aren't saying.

This concert was professionally filmed during the Rush Counterparts tour.  I think this was one of Rush's best CD releases in their modern day (at the time) era back then.  It was a lot better than some of their 1980's releases and it was a time when Rush was reemerging as a rock and roll music playing band again and not adding the new wave tint to their songs.  This is my personal opinion and feelings about Rush's music.

I think each and every era, and especially the 1970's, of Rush live had (and still has) something excellent and great in it as the band has played and toured up through today.  But having seen Rush a few times, and having heard what true musicians these guys are, it is easy to enjoy all of Rush's music even if there are a few songs in a show (like "Roll The Bones" for me) you don't care for.  Because it will just take a few minutes and there will be a song you love.  And I have also come to appreciate a lot of the songs I use to not like as much (like "Roll The Bones") after years of seeing and hearing shows with the song in it.  Rush really rocks!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Page & Plant: 1998-08-23 Cologne, Germany (Pro Shot DVD)

This is an superb performance as well as quality copy of the Page & Plant Rockpalast show in 1998.  With the pouring rain, it looks like you could throw a penny into the audience and it would never hit the ground because the place it packed and very densely populated.  This is one of the best, most high energy shows I've seen on the 1998 touring the guys did.  You can tell Plant "is feeling it" (he even says so) and so is Page.  The rest of the band is as well and everyone is at their best.  They rock out and put on a stellar performance.

Only one thing could make this a better viewing experience.  And that is to get the double layer DVD (DL DVD) of the show again.  I believe it comes with LPCM, 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround, and DTS audio.  I had it, but it was lost in a 2010 hard drive crash before I could ever get it to a DL DVD.  I'm looking for a replacement but am happy with this DVD at the same time.

It really sickens me that Page and Plant didn't decide, "OK, we did our 1995 solo tour...let's get John Paul Jones and use Michael Lee on drums and have a Zeppelin reunion" in this 1998 tour.  This was the perfect time because Plant's voice was sounding great and he could have handled it with no problems.  Heck, just watch this show and you'll see for yourself.

This is a very Zeppelin sounding performance and I highly recommend it for any fan!  The sound is awesome and the picture is too.  As always, Cosmic Energy does the DVD up right!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Sheryl Crow: 1997-06-21 Loreley, Germany (Pro Shot DVD)

While I'm not a big Sheryl Crow fan, I sometimes like to check out some of her music.  She is talented, has a great voice, and at times has a great band and songs too.  So I'm uploading this excellent quality DVD of her performance in 1997 at the Loreley Open Air Festival in Germany.  I'm not sure if this festival was a WDR Rockpalast broadcast or how they fit into the picture.  But they obviously do.

This is not the copy of the same show just recently shared on Dime.  It's the same show, but it is a much sharper video from what I can see.

This show is a nice capture of Crow before she was real famous.  She had a following I know, but she hadn't hit that 2003/2004 stardom she later reached.

I'm getting the second VHS > DVD build source I saw earlier today to compare the two.  It looked blurry from the screen shots, but at the same time you cannot always rely on screen shots either.  I do notice an occasional flaw (likely from using a terrible program like Nero to make the DVD) sometimes in the picture on this very sharp copy I've had for years and am uploading now.  Lines can be seen, and not the tracking kind of lines but more like poor resolution or rendering types, in certain parts of the video.  Don't get me wrong.  It still sounds and looks great.  I'm just mentioning some of the flaws so everyone can be aware of things before downloading the DVD.

I will try and upload some more shows today if I can find the time.  I seem to be having more time than I want lately so chances are good I can upload some more later today.  And I obviously did not make any changes to this upload at all.  It is the same way I got it and I started the upload before writing this post because it contained a decent info file as well as everything needed.  And the files checked out fine when testing them too.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Van Halen: 1983-05-29 Devore, CA (Pro Shot 1st Gen DL DVD)

This is a dual/double layer DVD of a Van Halen show of Van Halen's performance at the US Festival in 1983.  This show was just a little less than two years before the official removal of David Lee Roth from the band.  The lineage on this DL DVD project looks like a book below.  But I am copying and pasting it in the lineage area and only fixing some typos.

The video is great quality,  It's slightly blurry but still very enjoyable, and the audio is really great too.  This is a very nice project put together from two video sources an one audio source.

Heart: 1976-XX-XX Pullman, WA - Washington State University (Pro Shot DVD)

This is the earliest video I know of that is of a complete Heart concert.  And it comes from a low generation VHS of the master reel and is professionally shot too.  The band was very new at this point and was really just starting out and was an unknown band still.  The actual date of the sow was reportedly February or March of 1976 and the first broadcast in the Pacific Northwest United States was on 1976-04-09.

This concert was at Washington State University.  It seems to be a bunch of college students in the audience and the school's radio/TV department did the recording of the show.  This is a really awesome and cool historical documentation of one of rock 'n' roll's best acts starting out.  And I think this is the only time I have seen (or heard) Heart not playing a Led Zeppelin song in their concert even tough you can hear and see the strong Zeppelin influence in Heart's performance here.  This is a true rarity!

There is another copy of this sow I had that has additional footage of Heart's 1977 and 1978 "Midnight Special" performances as well as their 1976 and 1977 Musik Laden songs.  I lost this DVD on a hard drive that failed and was not backed up yet.  But I hope I can get it again or even one day recover the data because the six extra tracks are really a great time capsule addition of this great band.

This is an excellent recording and one any Heart fan should enjoy having in their collection!

I hope you enjoy the show...
