The Eagles: 1980-03-04 Inglewood, CA (FLAC_SB 2nd Gen Remaster/Upgrade_2 CD)

Today is the 36th anniversary of this recently shared copy of this The Eagles concert from Inglewood, California's The Forum in 1980.  This show was right before the band had their final falling out and broke up until they reunited again in 1994.

This is a huge upgrade and superb sounding remastered copy of the show that recently was shared right after founding member Glenn Fry died on January 18, 2016.  A special thanks goes out to "Waxly Molding" for the recent sharing of this remastered and upgraded copy.

This is a remaster as well as it being a second generation copy is superb.  The sound is vastly better than a more common copy of the show that has been circulating for ages.  The show blows the more commonly shared copy out of the water.  I was really surprised at how good this copy sounds.

I uploaded this show, the more common and lesser copy now, back in 2014.  It can be found at THIS LINK if anyone wants to check it out.  However, if you just want the best circulating copy this uploaded being made today is the one you want!

The Eagles broke up in July of 1980, just four months after this show, and vowed to never play again until "hell freezes over" due to the strife within the band and heavy drug use and abuse going on then.  So when they got back together after 14 years in 1994, when they were all clean and sober, they returned on their "Hell Freezes Over" tour and have continued on and are still playing today.

After Glenn Frey's death, less than two months ago, they played a Grammy (or some sort of event like that) type of event being televised they played one song for the event with their long time friend, Jackson Browne, filling in for Glenn Frey.  I have the video of it in HD even though it sadly just doesn't sound the same.

While Jackson Browne is not likely going to take Glenn Frey's place as one of The Eagles, it does look as if they plan on carrying on without Glenn Frey.  At least I hope they do.  I just wish I could have seen them before Glenn Frey passed away when the band still had the long time members in it.  Because you can rarely replace a lifelong member and have everything still sound the same.  The Eagles have been one of the few bands that can still play songs from any time in their career and have the song sound like it did so many years ago.

I still enjoy the 1973 - 1978 concerts from the band the most (especially the earlier 1973 - 1975 shows).  But since these guys are such talented artists and have such great songs, I've continued enjoying their music on through today's concerts.  I'm curious to see what happens now that a lifelong member has finally died.  But I have little doubt that whoever they pick, if they pick anyone, to fill in for Glenn Frey will be a talented singer and artist that can play and sing the songs right.

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1976-02-09 Nagoya, Japan (FLAC_AUD Low Gen_2 CD)

This is an excellent-to-superb audience recording of The Eagles in Japan in 1976 that gets passed around way too often as a soundboard recording because it is really clean and sounds like one in a lot of the show.  But it is an audience recording and an upgraded copy I got over on Dime a while back.

I think I have most, if not all, of the 1976 The Eagles Japan shows recorded.  I haven't done a full investigation to confirm this but from what I've seen available, and from upgrading from the mp3 copies I only had a number of years ago, I'm pretty sure I have them and most sound really good.  But this one is one of the best sounding from this time and tour in Japan.

The audio is a little bass heavy at times but it is still excellent.  I personally don't mind heavy, non distorted audio myself.  It sounds really great on a good system with good speakers too.  The thump, thump, thump can be felt by the body.

I just put this show in on the home theater system to recall anything to put in a review.  It's probably been a year since I've listened to it.  But from the start, the guitars and vocals as well as drums are all very evenly mixed and it does sound like a soundboard recording.  But between songs you can hear screaming Japanese girls (a few are really excited) and other audience noises that let you know it is just an excellent audience recording.

The boot label, Dynamite Studio, didn't track disc 1 according to their artwork.  So it looks like there is one less track than there is on the disc.  Since this was an EAC rip and I included the supplied log files I can see the rip was this way straight from the disc and not later split into two tracks.  Normally, most people track song three, "Doolin' Dalton" and "Desperado (Reprise)" as one track.  But in this case the label broke up the songs into track three being "Doolin' Dalton" and track four being "Desperado )Reprise)" so the artwork isn't an exact match and doesn't even mention "Desperado (Reprise)" on it..  No big deal to me but I thought I'd mention if for you.

There is some slight tape hiss but nothing bad as well as a few small digital glitches in the recording.  I'm not going to make it through the show to report every detail before I upload it and you'll have to download it and listen if you're interested.

The Eagles are really on fire in this show and sound like they put on a stellar performance.  I'm listening to "Outlaw Man" right now and they are flying along at full speed tearing the stage up.  I can see why this has been mistaken as a soundboard in the past too.

Thanks goes to "lolita" for sharing this upgraded copy of the show on Dime last year (2014).  The previous lossless copy I had was still excellent but it was a few generations higher than this copy for sure.  It'd be nice to hear a digital copy of the master recording from this show.

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1994-08-24 East Rutherford, MJ (FLAC_SB_3 CD)

Today is the 21st anniversary of this superb sounding recording and show from The Eagles as they came back from disbanding and breaking up for their Hell Freezes Over tour.  This recording is a little confusing because it has superb stereo separation, sound, and other audio fidelity features.  But at the same time you can barely hear individual hand clapping from the audience in between songs as well as something else I later note in this post making if have the audience recording appearance too.  I'm calling it a soundboard but it could just be an incredibly awesome audience recording possibly.

It's usually very easy to tell an audience recording apart from a soundboard recording.  Even superb audience recordings have telltale signs that can be heard.  But this one, and I'm listening to it right now, has still not given me a positive answer one way or another.

I've had this show from a 3 CD-R trade since the late 1990's.  However; my copy was not as good as this recording's audio is and was probably from a tape transfer (remember that we didn't have CD burners in 1994 and people still recorded with tape recorders) that was a number of generations old.  This is from a tape source even though the hiss is virtually non-existent in the recording.

As I was looking for a show that occurred on this date on my drives last night, I came across an mp3 copy I had not deleted (yet) of this show.  And as I started listening to it just to check the sound quality out I knew I had to find this show in a better lossless format than the CD-R copy I already had.  So I got on Dime and found this copy with no seeders.  I posted a message asking for seeders and within 5 minutes I had two.  Thanks to those seeders and to "hofzinser" for making this post back in January of this year on Dime.

I guess this recording could be a matrix using a soundboard and audience source recording but I doubt it.  Not only because of the lack of audience noise during the show but because somebody would have mentioned this in their lineage along the way.  Plus, I've never seen an audience recording of the show circulating.  I personally don't care which it is because it sounds so great.  The nix really is perfect and that is another indicator it is likely a soundboard source recording.  I'm really impressed with the stereo separation too and that is another reason I believe it is a soundboard.  But whatever the case is, it is a superb recording and source.

There is some coughing and microphone bumping sound at the end of "Help Me Through The Night" on CD 2 which is very audience sounding to me.  The artwork states it is a soundboard recording but we all know better than to trust artwork for the truth.  There are some slight cuts, as if a short amount of the recording was removed in the audience parts in the show also.

By the way, in case anyone may be wondering why I keep bringing up the topic of this show being an audience recording vs. a soundboard recording is so much (other than my own curiosity), it is because the debate has been discussed a lot over the years.  People have wondered if this show was an audience or soundboard recording for some time and this is not something new I am just bringing up now.

The waveform had one tiny spike in one specific area that showed the only clipping I saw.  Needless to say, there is no clipping in this show in a practical sense.  The waveform drops down a little in some songs and at first I was wondering if there was a two source mix until I listened to the music.  It was just the quieter songs which are the acoustic ones where the waveform lowered and that is 100% expected and normal.

I'm about to start listening CD 3 and I have no complaints at all or anything bad to say about the recording.  I guess one thing would make it a slightly better sounding recording.  A different EQ job could make it just a tiny bit more sharp in the beginning of the show and more beefy (low frequencies) sounding later on.  Don't get me wrong though.  It needs nothing done to it because it already sounds superb.  But if anyone with the knowledge to do it right wanted to improve upon the sound, they could easily do so too.  The mix sounds excellent but it could sound even better.  And there are some small but definite micro-cuts that could be smoothed out.  But overall, this is already a superb sounding recording and show.

I wish I had caught this prior to embedding the audio files, but I did not.  The last two tracks on CD 1, "Lyin' Eyes" and "One of These Nights", are not split.  The label, Red Robin, put them together as one track.  It's no big deal unless you want to jump to the track "One of These Nights" (one of my favorite The Eagles songs).  I remember having "One of These Night's" on a 4 rpm as a kid living in New Orleans.  But that is a completely different topic altogether.  But it is a memory and likely a reason I like that song a lot.

If you are a fan of The Eagles you won't regret getting this show and recording at all!

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1974-08-22 Lenox, MA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

Today is the 41st anniversary of this excellent The Eagles concert that was in Lenox, Massachusetts.

This is an excellent recording and the show has been passed around as a soundboard for years even though it isn't one.  It's just an excellent audience recording from my favorite era of The Eagles.  If I had to pick my favorite time for the band's music, it'd be between 1973 and 1977.  And I like the earlier 1973/1974 time frame the best.

A special thanks goes out to "whotrader" for making this copy available on Dime in the past!

This is one of those cases where I've had the show for a while but have never put it to disc and listened to the full show yet.  I've meant to for the last year but somehow got tied up with other things and really forgot about it.  But I'm burning myself a copy of this show today and I plan on listening to it this afternoon.

A reference to the time period this show occurred in is given by the band right before "Already Gone".  In 1974, with Vietnam and the political climate and turmoil, it's obvious that Watergate had already occurred because Glen Frey introduces the song saying "This is a little song for Richard Nixon" and the band jumps into "Already Gone" then.

This is the longer version of the show out of the two I have.  One is missing a few tracks. And the artwork I have for this show seems to have come from the shorter version so it won't match the full setlist correctly.

This is really an excellent, full range recording and to be honest it almost meets my superb criteria.  I have a hard time rating these shows because I want to rate it according to how much I like the show, sound, etc.  But I do have better sounding The Eagles shows than this one. but this one is awesome in its own ways and for its own reasons and sounds awesome.

The band members can all be heard very clearly, the bass is very clean and strong, the guitars and vocals are very clean and strong, and everything is perfectly mixed.  There is light tape hiss but it is not bad at all.  "Whotrader" mentioned he'd EQ'ed the show slightly.  I'm not sure how it sounds before the EQ but he did a great job of creating a perfect sounding output product.  There is a small amount of audio clipping in the waveform but it is nothing to worry about and is not bad.  Some tracks have clipping in the waveform, some have none.  And those that do have it don't have much at all  This is a quality show and any The Eagles fan should enjoy it a lot!

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1976-02-02 Osaka, Japan (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_2 CD)

I wanted to upload this convert on its 39th anniversary a week ago, but it was the day I got busy and I don't think I got to upload any shows.  So here it is just a week late.

This is an excellent audience recording of The Eagles in Osaka in 1976 and the show sounds as good as the performance does.  I've been listening to it the past half hour and the taper did a really excellent job of capturing an excellent mix in the recording too.

Thanks goes out to "filippo" for sharing this gem over on Dime not too long ago.  Every copy I had ever had of this recording (a) didn't sound as good as this 2nd Gen copy and (b) turned up testing lossy or was just shared as an mp3.  It took me years to finally come across a true lossless copy of this show.  But the wait was worth it too!

I think the taper must have been up close in the seating in Festival Hall to capture such a great recording of the show.  The show looks great when viewing the waveform and there is absolutely no clipping of any audio.  In fact, there is a lot of room left to work with the audio and bring out some changes moving it up to a superb copy if you know how to do it right.  I'd love to see a Winston Remasters copy of this concert.  Personally, I'm not making any changes and I'm leaving the unaltered show just as it sounds.

There is a little hiss, but it is very low and not an issue at all.  The natural mix sounds great and all instruments and vocals are evenly heard.  That alone is a big advantage to some copies I've heard (likely from higher generation sources and too much uneducated altering of the audio).

I don't know at the moment how many Japanese shows The Eagles played in 1976 on their Japan leg of their tour.  But I do have a few and may have even uploaded one before from a different date?  Over time, I will share those shows too.

I hope you enjoy this show..

The Eagles: 1980-03-04 Inglewood, CA (FLAC_SB 2nd Gen_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of The Eagles as the played in Inglewood on their 1980 tour.  This is a soundboard recording too.

The limited information for this show I have mentions:

"Another stellar recording from "The RS Archives" (a Mexminute/The Commish Production)"

I'm not 100% sure what that means or where it comes from.  But I do believe I got this FLAC file set in a FLAC DVD-R trade a while back and I think any audio edits in the show were not to the sound but just the types correcting errors or blemishes (i.e. silent tape gaps, etc)?  The recording does sound excellent too! it sounds better than two other copies of the show I have.  Correction...make that one other copy.  One was an old mp3 copy I first had and had forgotten to delete off the drive it was on until just now :-)

The waveform looks great, clipping is not an issue, and the music sounds excellent.  I've had this copy for a long time I know but I just cannot determine where I got it or any additional information on it other than what I've shared.  I did have a collector do a FA and SA on it about a year or two ago because of the results I got with TLH (not very reliable for CDDA/MPEG tests).  The results came back lossless.

I have kept a copy & paste in e-mails of every page and its details (URL included) of the shows I've download since about 2006.  But I have nothing on this one indicating I likely got it around 2005.  I may have gotten it in a trade back around the earlier 1990's even?  But other than the artwork (which I think was found and added later), a tiny text file with no real details, and what I've typed here, this is all I know about this show currently.  But I do know one more thing and that is if you're a fan of the band's music from  this era and you don't have this show, you're going to like it!

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1978-08-19 Chicago, IL (FLAC_AUD Master? Remaster_2 CD)

Here's a great recording of a show from almost 36 years ago by The Eagles.  The show was shared about six months ago by someone claiming it was from the master cassette.  However, this may or may not be correct?

In a very recent remastering/reworking of the earlier shared files, the fan doing the work noted they were confident this recording came off of the liberated bootleg LP for this show.  The person doing the recent reworking of the audio noted there were definite needle pops at certain places throughout the show.  While they removed the clicks/pops, they stated they believed this was from an LP and not the master cassette tapes.  Since I don't know either way, I'm only stating what has been said.  And either way, this is a great capture of the Chicago concert The Eagles put on and it sounds even better after being reworked by a fan.

I took the original Flac's and converted them back to Wav. Reworked the audio and converted back to FLAC using TLH.

Sector Boundary Aligned and FLAC Level 8 > Dime 6/23/14

Upon closer inspection there are undeniable needle pops at these locations.

Track 03 @ 0:39 mark
Track 04 @ 3:40 mark
Track 07 @ 0:11 mark (most likely needle pop)
Track 11 @ 0:11 mark

I don't believe that these are hand claps or mic bumps. I have a strong suspicion that this was sourced from a Liberated Boot LP.

I'm not doing anything different with the original reworked files.  Since they've been named already, I'm just uploading the shared file set as is.  Do to a couple of jobs I'm working on and trying to finish up, I really don't have a lot of time to do the extras I like to normally do when I upload a show.  I have checked and confirmed the file set integrity, of course, and I saved the "Bootradr's TLH CDDA Test" text file showing the results in this upload.  But other than that, I'm only sharing what I got.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

The Eagles: 1977-03-21 Largo, MD (FLAC_SB_1 CD)

Here's a superb soundboard of part of The Eagles show from Largo, Maryland back in 1977.  This obviously isn't the complete show because there are only eight songs.  This is reportedly from a DVD rip but I've yet to see this video anywhere before.  As excellent and this rip sounds, I hope to find the video from it before too long.

I'd really like to find the complete soundboard for this show.  I imagine this is about half of the show.  I'd need to look at some other 1977 The Eagles shows to see what songs are most likely missing.  But if you want a super sounding, incomplete version of the show; then here it is.  If anyone has any leads on where to find the full show's audio and/or the video from this concert, please leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I've been back for a week now from my two weeks of vacation and should be back to uploading shows daily withing a few days to a week.

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1976-11-06 Houston, TX (Pro Shot DVD)

This is a great concert, and it is also a great upgrade to earlier versions of this show that have surfaced.  I started out with a 1 CD (audio only) recording of part of this show in the 1990's.  I didn't even realize it was on video until about ten years later.  And while the video was a great upgrade to the 1 CD audio version I had, and it was the complete show too, it still was not the best quality.  This upgrade, which I saw surfacing about two or three years ago, is great.  Work has been done to correct the audio and video issue the older copies had.  The source this video came from is a lower generation (better) copy than my original video copy too.

The band, as usual, puts on an excellent show.  This is reportedly one of the seven 1976 to 1977 Houston Summit shows that were filmed under contracts with the venue.  I have a number of these shows (Kansas, Queen, etc) in my collection, and baring if there is any truth to the Led Zeppelin 1977 Houston Summit having been filmed, this is the show from the set of seven I have watched the most.

Between songs, as seen in all of the pro shot earlier versions, there is usually a black screen for up to a minute or two.  This isn't the case in just this Houston Summit 1976 The Eagles show.  It's the case in all that I have seen.  However, in this upgraded copy I've uploaded, someone took the time to add various pictures from The Eagles (audio is still heard on DVD) to fill in the "black gaps".

I hope you enjoy the show...
