Led Zeppelin: 1969-10-12 London, Enlgand (DVD-A_AUD Master or Low Gen_48 kHz/LPCM_1 DVD-A)

This is a show I have only had one copy of really.  I thought I had two copies, but after finding my first CD trade day copy, I realized it was the same exact Totonka Records copy I also had on my external drive.  But the old copy is no comparison to this DVD-A (audio DVD) copy of the master tape.  It is much brighter, cleaner, and it's not over processed or distorted like the older copy I've had.

Two days ago was the 46th anniversary of this show and I had wanted to upload it then.  But since I had other plans and things I needed to get done, I did not get the time to upload the show then.  So I am uploading it early this morning.

Some people have problems playing real DVD-A discs.  But this is not an DVD audio but an audio DVD (not real scientific descriptions but the way many describe the two types).  This show will burn and play just like any other standard DVD would and it should play on all players.  It is still classified as a DVD-A, but in this case the audio is embedded in the VOB (video) files and is not a separate file type or set of files inside of the AUDIO_TS folder.  If you don't understand this or it makes no sense right now to you, don't worry about it.  As long as you know how to burn a DVD (it is very, very simple) you can burn this and listen on any DVD player.

LINEAGE:
Master > 48 kHz DAT > Audio DVD > me > TLH (to create a new md5 file) > you

NOTES (Presence copy & paste notes):
The lineage is in question, but is definitely a low generation.  Other circulating copies and bootleg releases show significant and very clever tinkering.  Some examples are the removal of an audience member commenting "Good Times, Bad Times" during its use as a lead-in, and a fake ending added to How Many More Times.  You can have a good read about what I and others discovered here:

This DVD-A is a project made by "Presence" from the master tape of the show.  He did not add any slideshow images or video to the project so what he did do is produce a higher sample and bit rate audio project with higher quality audio.

I've been collecting a lot of higher quality audio and DVD-A projects over the years as well as I record my shows in the 96 kHz/24 bit audio too.  The purpose if for making some future DVD-A projects.  I've tried using a program called lplex but I either don't understand it, I don't have the full program, or something else is going on in this old DOS based looking program.  Sooner or later I'll either learn the program or get one that does work.  It's not a high priority but it is one I want to learn to do correctly where I can make some nice, high audio and image/video quality projects.

I haven't talked much about the show being uploaded yet.  The audio ranges from great-to-excellent.  But it blows away the Totonka label copy on CD that I mentioned earlier.  The audio definitely has it's issues and is not without faults.  But it is a huge upgrade to any copy (or the copy) I've heard.  Just hearing what Plant is saying, Jimmy Page's guitar playing, and the more even mix and high end frequencies present makes this an easy to listen to show unlike the Totonka label copy.

I love the sound in this recording myself.  There is very little tape hiss too.  And the band is playing very well on this night in London too.  It is a classic 1969 performance that is nothing short of perfect.  And the audience is really quiet too.  Even in between songs it is not near as loud as it was when the band played in America.  So there really is no audience interference in the recording for the most part.

There are some short tape stops in the show that seem to primarily be between songs.  The first one interfering with any music is near the end of "You Shook Me" (more or less 20 minutes into the show).  I do not think this was a tape flip but I do not know what the reason is.  "Dazed and Confused" is sounding excellent and has some unique musical moments in it on this night.  The final track in the recording, "How Many More Times", is obviously an encore song and the audio quality drops a little at the beginning of it.  But after the band starts playing it and before they move towards the non studio and jam parts in it the sound regains its earlier qualities.  "Ho0w many More Times" is unfortunately cut a little short.  The tapers sounds like he tries to stop and start the tape a few (maybe two or three) times in the last 30 seconds of the audio.  The taper obviously had a 60 minute tape I guess and did not have enough tape to record the whole show.  I wonder what Led Zeppelin played after "How Many More Times"?  You know "Communication Breakdown" was likely in there as well as a few other staples of the Led Zeppelin 1969 concerts.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-03-17 Seattle, WA (DVD-A_AUD Source 2, 1st Gen_96/24)

Today is the 40th anniversary of this superb Led Zeppelin audience (and there are soundboards of this show too) recording by JEMS.  This one is an audio DVD and is a 96 kHz/24 bit high quality audio recording too.

JEMS is well known for their recordings of many Seattle and other area concerts over the decades.  And they're also known for their technical audio knowledge and taping expertise also.  I put them in the category of a professional and a lot like Mike Millard who was also known for these same qualities.

Another similarity between JEMS member Stan Gurostki (the "S" in "JEMS") and Mike Millard is in the fact they both recorded and incomplete Led Zeppelin show in 1975 due to being in a car wreck on the way to the concerts they each attended and they both got to their shows late.  In this case, Stan was about 1/2 hour late and started his recording at "The Song Remains the same" and caught the last 2 1/2 hours of the show.  He missed capturing "Rock And Roll", "Sick Again", "In My Time Of Dying", and "Over The Hills And Far Away" only.

This audio DVD does not have any video or slideshows and was created by using the Lplex DVD-A building software.  The transfer of this audio from the reel-to-reels was done by "weedwacker" too.

I was just (finally...should have done it first) reading the notes on this show and realized I would be repeating what has already been said if I went ahead and paraphrased anymore :-)  Since the original people responsible for this recording did such a good job of explaining, I'm doing a copy and paste of their notes below.

ORIGINAL NOTES (copy & paste):

--------------------------------------------------

"Author Notes:
This is a standard dvd-video with a blank screen. It burns and plays back the same way you would handle any other dvd-video. This format is used for maximum compatibility since you can do playback using a home theater system with a standard dvd player or on a computer using any dvd playback software.

Recording Notes:
An excellent but incomplete mono recording. Unfortunately Stan wasn't able to document the first half hour of the set due to getting into a car accident on the way to the show but what he did capture is of excellent sound quality with almost no audience noise. Of the two Zeppelin shows Stan taped in 1975 this is the better of the two recordings.

Transfer Notes:
After a series of back and forth conversations with Bill Bratton regarding both Zeppelin shows Stan taped in 1975 show we decided it was time to do a proper hi-res transfer from the best possible source that could be located for both shows. Bill provided weedwacker with his 1st gen reels he dubbed in the late 70's using Stan's masters and the original Tandberg reel-to-reel deck. Bill dubbed these reels using the master tapes from a second stereo Tandberg deck, back to Stan's original mono source deck. Bill also reached out to his friends in JEMS, of which Stan is a member, for access to their reels to determine which source tapes were better 33 years later. Members of JEMS graciously provided their first gen reels of both shows (Stan's masters have been missing or no longer exist for over 15 years now)-so either of these sets can be considered the closest verifiable analog copies to the masters done for the sole purpose as backups.

Also of note there may not be any true analog to digital transfers directly from Stan's masters for 3/17/75 and 3/21/75 Seattle. Any master > DAT copies most likely originate from the DAT backups made of the JEMS' 1st gen reels in the early '90s at 32khz. Hi-res 24 bit/ 96000kHz transfers were done from both sets of reels which are very similar and excellent sounding with some minor differences. After some comparisons it was determined Bill's set of reels is in the better condition of the two sets having more clarity and less boom to them than the JEMS copies. What you have here is the lowest gen copy of this recording still in existance in the best possible sound quality for this excellent albeit incomplete audience recording.

JEMS Notes:
Bill Bratton and Stan became allies sometime after the 1977 Kingdome show. It was Stan who introduced me to Bill and for that I will always be grateful.

Between 1972 and 1988, Stan personally recorded several hundred shows by a wide range of artists and if there was a tapers hall of fame, he would be a first-ballot inductee. Since the formation of JEMS, Stan has done fewer recordings (though he is known to video the occasional show to this day) but his masters remain a cornerstone of the JEMS archive.

Here's one piece of trivia I bet most Led Zeppelin collectors don't know: Stan and Mike Millard actually knew each other and traded tapes. In fact, on a trip to Disneyland with his family, Stan invited Mike over to his hotel where they swapped taping stories, Millard showed him some of his gear, etc. The two taping legends were friends.-- Butterking for JEMS

Credits:
Stan Gutoski for taping this show in the first place.

The members of JEMS for all the assistance they provided from materials to
information used here.

Bill Bratton for providing the reels used here and for all his input on the project.

Led Zeppelin for the obvious reasons.
"

--------------------------------------------------

So that is from the original text file and describes those involved in making this project available for us to be enjoying it and listening to it today, forty years after it was recorded.  A special thanks goes to all of these guys involved!

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-06-21 Inglewood, CA (DVD-A_AUD_LPCM)

After the Winston Remasters FLAC upload of this show two days ago, the copy mistakenly added without "The Song Remains The Same", I did some research and learned something I had not been aware of before.  And as a temporary replacement until I can re-upload the full remastered copy of the Winston Remasters remastered show, I'm uploading what is either better than or equal to (in my opinion) the Winston Remasters copy and this is the Genuine Masters DVD-A of Listen To This Eddie - Collector's Edition.  Both the WR and GM copies of the show use the Mike Millard source audio.

While trying to find the missing song from the other day's upload, "The Song Remains The Same", I realized there are a number of Winston Remasters copies associated with this 1977-06-21 show and the title Mike The Mike.  There is a 2004 Mike The Mike sourced from the Millard AUD first generation cassette and remastered as well as a 2007 copy too sourced from a first generation Hi-Fi VHS copy that was remastered.  But as well as the remastered copies, there are also unaltered copies that Winston Remasters also shared.  And that doesn't even include the two sources copy I uploaded the other day (I don't think).

I've downloaded four copies of this show since two days ago with one copy still not completely obtained yet.  I already had a couple of unaltered copies, and I believe I have them all now (the WR ones) with the exception of the primary one I want.  It is stuck at 89.2% complete on some unknown torrent site and with no seeders now.  It is the 1.25 GB 2007 Winston Remasters remastered copy.  But I am confident I will get it eventually.

I could continue on with details that would scramble your brain like it has been doing to mine as I try obtaining information on (a) what is the difference in each copy and (b) what is considered to be the best copy of the Winston Remasters versions out there.  But there is no need to get bogged down in all of those details, and especially in this post.

So without further ado, here is the Genuine Masters, superb sounding, audio DVD of the show and I know you will enjoy it.  It is complete with "The Song Remains The Same" and is complete with a psychedelic art and pictures kind of slideshow of images from the concert as  the concert plays.  The slideshow displays on your TV or PC screen as the music plays.  Plus, the images are formatted to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen TV sets or PC monitors too.  In other words, they fill the screen!

SAMPLE:
YouTube Sample ("Since I've Been Loving You")

As I have started doing lately, the sample video clip above is on YouTube where I uploaded it and I am not embedding it into this post where it displays here.  Something has gone wrong with doing it that way on Blogspot's site, and besides, it will sound and look better on the YouTube site anyhow.

Always remember, a smaple is a lossy format example of something off of the lossless quality download.  It is near impossible to find a site that will stream or display a lossless format piece of video or audio on the internet.  There are a few sites you can pay for and listen to lossless quality audio on, but I still have never seen one where you can upload and stream your own lossless product on.  They may or may not be out there?  But I'm not going to pay for anything I don't have to and especially just to post a sample on anyhow.

I will get the Winston Remasters remastered and unaltered best copies (in my opinion) up here on my site sooner or later.  But until then, you won't be disappointed by this Genuine Masters DVD-A of the show either.  Genuine Masters does great work.  And even though I don't know what generation this source they used here on their DVD-A is, I imagine it is the first generation Millard recording.  This is Genuine Masters second DVD-A of this show and it is an upgrade too!  Thier first, 2004, 2 DVD-A copy used photos from the Seattle 1977 show and it did not sound as good either.  This copy and their second attempt was done right and with the widescreen images and LPCM audio to make it a masterpiece and very enjoyable three hours, fifteen minutes of Led Zeppelin music and images.

I am not sure at this point if a true remastering (Winston Remasters or otherwise) has even been done on the unmarked Millard first generation tapes for this show that surfaced recently.  I am trying to determine this even now.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-02-19 Adelaide, Australia (DVD-A_AUD_LPCM)

Today is the 43rd anniversary of this Led Zeppelin concert in Adelaide, Australia.  And I really like this DVD-A copy made by Genuine Masters and with the high quality LPCM audio too.

This DVD-A has a great psychedelic artwork mixed with shots of the band as they performed in Australia slideshow as the music plays.

I've not listened to this show in a year or so, but I know the taper stopped the recorder between songs sometimes and even chopped at least two songs short.  Unfortunately, "Tangerine" was on the chopping block and we only have a small part of it.  I went ahead and checked the disc and "Mony Dick" is fairly long but also cut short too.  And last, but not least, sadly enough "Whole Lotta Love" seems to run out of tape nearing the end of the song but before it finishes.  And with that song, they may have gone on for another hour too :-)

Also, while I'm not sure if Led Zeppelin did this or not in this show, they probably played "Communication Breakdown" and maybe even had the John Paul Jones organ solo leading into "Thank You" too.  I'm guessing the taper just didn't bring enough tape with him, but again, I don't know for sure.

This is really an excellent recording and all the instruments ans well as Robert Plant can be heard easily and cleanly.  It's too bad the taper had a little problem with the bass end on his equipment, but it is not horrible or show ruining at all.  And not all bass is distorted either.  I don't want to give that impression at all.  It's just at some points in the show it is distorted a little in the real heavy (musically) parts of some songs.  Page's guitar sounds so good too in this recording and he is on fire in this show.

SAMPLE:
YouTube Sample ("Going to California" and "That's The Way")

I was going to upload a FLAC copy of this show since so many people ask for those when DVD-A uploads happen, but this is the better sounding version.  And with all the free and easy to use DVD burning programs available, it is not hard to learn to burn a disc like this at all.  In most programs you just pick the "VIDEO_TS folder as the source and the program does the rest.

Also, for some reason I have not determined yet, the DVD-A discs zip up much smaller than their full size.  These two zipped files are a 900 MB part 1 and 271 MB part 2 zipped file set uploaded.  That's not really much larger that a 3 CD shows and smaller than some.  I think what WinRAR does on non moving video (or slideshows) is compress the video part or the images.  The audio doesn't change and is the same.

I've tried zipping the DVD-A's up like we do FLAC files or actual DVD video files where they come out the same size zipped up as they do unzipped.  But it just can't be done.  But my point is this.  It really isn't much larger of a file than you'd get downloading a 2 CD copy of the show.

The previous information only seems to apply to what is more correctly termed Audio DVD's and not the real DVD-A discs that have audio files in the AUDIO_TS folder too.  There is a way to build a better DVD-A but few people or labels do that.  They just build these Audio DVD's with the audio inside of the video files (or VOB files).  Don't worry if this makes no sense to you because it's just information and not necessarily anything you need to know in order to burn or use the DVD.

The FLAC copies I have for this show, one being a master source copy, all had to much bass distortion when compared to this Genuine Masters copy.  They sounded good, and one day I'll upload some of them too.  But the recordings were heavier on the bass and I wanted to upload a cleaner sounding copy and one that can be burned to one disc and watched too.  Ripping a DVD's audio is also easy if you want to do that and make a FLAC version.  I might even do that some day myself.

Since I've been having problems uploading the link via Blogspot where it shows here in my post, I just added the sample link above and you can look over on the lossy YouTube site and see the sample if you want to.

I hope you enjoy this 43 year old show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-02-01 New York,NY (DVD-A_AUD 2nd Gen_LPCM 48 kHz/24 Bit_2nd Set)

This is by far the best sounding copy of the legendary, as well as disputable, second show Led Zeppelin ever did in New York.  And it just so happens it was 46 years ago tonight (what are those chances).

I mention this show has been disputed.  And what I mean is the date of it.  Led Zeppelin played two sets (or shows) at the Fillmore East on 1969-01-31 and 1969-02-01.  The first set would be played, a break would be taken, then the second set or half of the show was played.  However, on this night John Paul Jones had left an instrument in the hotel room and the show was being delayed.  So the first set started off with Jimmy Page playing "White Summer" while Jones' instrument was retrieved.   And this is the second set in this recording being uploaded first.

Many people have said, "the date is 1969-01-31" and many others have said "mo, it was really 1969-02-01."  Some video, about a 30 second clip, of the 1969-01-31 show surfaced a few years back and it did not match this recording being shared here.  While there is no concrete proof this date in this upload is February 1st, it is nearly proven and definitely makes the most sense.  But since I wasn't there, I have to go with the word of people who were and the general consensus of those who have researched and know a lot more about it than I do.  I'll upload the first set of the show,in a little while too.

Thanks to "pernod" for helping me clarify what should be the correct information when I asked on R-O earlier today as I started preparing this upload.  I decided to get it right rather than come back and correct it late.  That especially helps when you look at the text file later too :-)

"Bill was gracious enough to lend me this reel to transfer. The backstory behind this reel is Bill received this from Bob Whitfield back in 1980. This reel didn't have the tuneups prior to Train Kept A Rollin' that is present on some of the other copies. This is an excellent recording of a young zeppelin band just beginning to make their mark on the music world. This a tight, no nonsense performance. This also happens to be the first show they ever played in New York as Led Zeppelin. A very light mastering was done to attenuate some of the hiss and fix some minor dropouts in the recording. None of the music was affected and no lossy processing was done period."

Whether this show actually occurred on 1969-01-31 or 1969-02-01, that really isn't as important as us having it.  And I've got so many labels and version of it, some with more or less tape than the others, that I'm sharing what sounds best today.

I will be uploading set 1, or the first half of the show, also in a little while if able.  And if not tonight, I'll put it up tomorrow as I catch up on some shows I promised to get uploaded (as well as Zeppelin's February 2nd show from 1969 too).

Enjoy the show...

Today is the the day of the final night in Chicago and Led Zeppelin's third night as they were in their opening shows in America in 1975.  This show was 40 years ago today and I'm uploading the 48 kHz/24 bit DVD-A of it.

This DVD-A has photos of the show for the slideshow as the music plays.  It's another excellent sounding show and night too.

The photos from the show are reportedly believed to be from this date, but if any are not from the 1/22 concert, they are from the 1/21 concert the night before.

ORIGINAL NOTES (copy & paste):
"This is a standard dvd-video with a slide show and audio for playback compatibility on standard dvd players through a home theater system for maximum audio enjoyment.  All photos used are known to be from Chicago, either 1/21 or 1/22/1975, but are believed to be from the 22nd. Since the sequence of the original photos was not preserved, identification of the songs being played for each slide was done through instrumentation and lighting (all best guess). Project completed in September 2008.

Notes:
Good to Very Good audience recording. Almost complete missing about 10 minutes give or take of Moby Dick. These cassettes were located by Jonohull through a friend of his who went to all 3 Zeppelin shows in 1975 with the taper of this recording. His friend Kevin was gracious enough to lend the cassettes out to Jonohull who in return passed them along to me for repair and transfering. This is the first time this recording has ever been in circulation and the first time it has been heard by anyone including Kevin in a great many years.

Jonohull's Notes:
One of my friends introduced me to Kevin because he knew he was at some Zeppelin shows, so I helped him get those recordings. Later he told me he had 2 Chicago shows on tape that he was at, and he was next to the taper when it happened. He had copied the master tapes the next day and these are the tapes this show is from. At this point I got excited, and the process started from there!

Kevin's Notes:
What do I remember about the chicago concerts? It was quite a while ago and there was  a lot of effort in driving to chicago in freezing weather and then dealing with the large crowd. What I remember is that we didn't have the same seats on any of the nights and we were never very close to the stage, always in the upper balconies somewhere. It was very Magic though. I was a complete zeppelin fan. They were very special to me. I had some live recordings from earlier tours but Physical Graffiti was not out yet and new things undreamed of were emanating from that small stage down there! Almost all of my attention was riveted on Jimmy Page who was just a small figure way down there from where I was sitting. But what was coming out of him was simply unbelievable. I do remember one night we were a little closer, somewhere in the middle of the ground floor. I remember hearing Kashmir for the first time ( I hadn't understood the title when Plant announced the new song). As I said, sheer magic. No other music affected me like this. I guess this is all very subjective, and most people back home thought I was out of my tree, but now, look at all the people who are interested!! No one in my environment would have believed it then. I do remember that Plant's voice was substandard, apparently he had been suffering from the flu after hitting the freezing temperatures of Minneapolis coming straight from the much milder winter in England. That was especially true the first night. I wish I could remember more, but all of  the Led Zeppelin concerts I saw (9 altogether) had me in a state of transformed excitement ( intoxication) which I can't explain and was totally different from any other concerts I saw ( for example the Who and Pink Floyd- to name two  of the best). And, no, I was never using drugs or alcohol when I went to these concerts. Sorry if this has run on too long, but that is as accurate as I can be. That opening riff from Kashmir, which I'd never heard yet and was thus totally unexpected, is my most poignant memory. You see, the music was so overwhelming and had such a transforming effect that I was just stunned and came out of there in a state of total disorientation. I guess that's about the highest compliment you could pay to an artistic event.    I don't remember much about getting the equipment in because I wasn't paying any attention. I didn't want any distraction from the experience. All I remember is that he had a small tape recorder, and it was January with heavy winter jackets you know. I do remember that a security guard detected it while frisking him trying to enter one of the shows. He left and just came back again, this time not being detected. Very persistent fellow.

Credits:
The taper for recording the show in first place.
Kevin for lending the tapes out for repair and transfer.
Jonohull for locating the tapes in the first place. Without his leg work this release never sees the light of day.
Bozone Baby for his excellent artwork and covers, and for sorting and formatting the photos for the slides.
Weedwacker for tape restorations, tape transfers and outstanding DVD authoring.
Led Zeppelin for all the obvious reasons.
"

So that is from the original text file and describes those involved in making this project available for us to be enjoying it and listening to it today, forty years after it was recorded.  A special thanks goes to all of these guys and especially to "weedwacker", a well known Zeppelin audio mastering expert in our sharing circle, for his work and final work on this specific show.  And of course a special thanks in my mind to him ("weedwacker") for his audio expertise and many shares of superb quality and best generation copies of the vast number of shows he has been putting out for a number of years now.

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-10-03 Tokyo, Japan (DVD-A_AUD_48 kHZ LPCM Audio)

This is another excellent audio DVD (higher audio sample and bit rates...or higher quality audio).  It is am audio DVD of the Led Zeppelin Tokyo, Japan show on 1972-10-03.

This is an excellent sounding show and it is almost complete too.  I just put this one to a DVD+R myself and I'm going to listen to it tonight as I do things around the house.  I'm not sure which source this may be, but I can likely find out and update the post later.

I really like these DVD-A discs because you can get the whole show, in higher quality audio I might add, and it's all on one disc.  The recording is continuous from beginning to end and all you have to do is listen.

I didn't add my own text file to this upload.  I just left the one "Presence" made which is the basic lineage, show information, and setlist.  There really isn't much more needed anyway.

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-04-27 San Francisco, CA (DVD-A_SB Master/AUD 2nd Gen Matrix_Both Sets)

It is completely unbelievable that I have never uploaded this superb show before!  It's so far from normal understanding that I thought I had at some point and guess I just never checked until today.  I'm still thinking I have but somehow am missing it here, but it sure doesn't look that way.

This is one of my five top Led Zeppelin shows on the list of the best ones.  It is that good!  The second set was my first Led Zeppelin unreleased recording I ever got too.  It sounded nothing near as good as the more recent decades of copies have.  Plus, it was the audience recording I got and not the soundboard way back then too.  But I loved it just the same.

This is both sets at the Fillmore West, a venue renown for excellent Led Zeppelin shows on their 1969 tour.  This is a DVD-A (DVD audio with slideshow and video segments).  And I like the way Genuine Masters built this DVD-A too.

I like how Genuine Masters added video to the project instead of it being all slideshow oriented like most DVD-A projects are.  I could have lived without the graphic cartoon artwork representations of the band however.  It's just not the way I want picture the band jamming out if you know what I mean.  But with the LPCM audio and the excellent production Genuine Masters is known fo, I really don't have too many complaints.

The show really sounds superb too.  I'm not saying it is the definitive sound out of the different copies of the show I have.  But it is not anything at all worth worrying about quality wise either.  And I will be uploading other copies of the show over time too including what I think is the definitive copy.  The soundboard based copies are all superb with excellent stereo separation!

Thanks goes to Greg Z. for making this DVD-A available.  I'd seen it mentioned over a few years, had a FLAC audio rip of the DVD-A, but did not have the DVD-A itself.  And I like DVD-A projects because (a) the show is usually on one disc, (b) it is almost always in a higher quality audio, and (c) you usually have some sort of slideshow or video to watch as you listen to the show.  I plan on watching this one myself today when I get back home!

Speaking of getting back home...I'm uploading this remotely this morning so there is no text file in the upload.  There was not one to begin with, and since I wanted to get the show uploaded while I was gone, I uploaded it without a description/information text file.  You can copy & paste this post's content into a text file and save it if you want one.  But since I didn't have time to make a "Bootradr's info" file and since there was no "info" file originally, I had to get it uploading without one before I left yesterday.

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1970-09-04 Inglewood, CA (DVD-A_AUD_LPCM_1 DVD)

It can be really difficult deciding which source, label, or flat out sound is the best on shows sometimes.  That is the case with this show here.  In celebration of the 44th anniversary of this show today, I am uploading another superb recording of the concert.  I uploaded one of my favorite (if not my favorite) recording of this show last year and it was titled A Sweeter Blueberry.  But this Genuine Masters DVD-A of the show is right up there with last year's copy I uploaded.  The big difference here is this is a DVD-A.  And of course that means it has a higher and better audio bitrate.  This is an LPCM audio DVD-A and it is excellent sounding and has very nice slide show graphics throughout the concert!

I'm jamming out on this show as I prepare this upload right now.  It really is amazing that fans in the audience were able to record such and excellent sounding audio and that it has lasted this many years and is still being shared today.  There are a few sources in the show that are used.  And I am including the original text file in this upload too because it has a few reviews and information too from Underground Uprising that have been posted.

Since it's getting late in the day and I want to get this uploaded fast, I'm wrapping up this post.  I'll close by saying this is a must have Led Zeppelin show for any real fans!  Genuine Masters is known for their quality too.  I still think A Sweeter Blueberry is likely the very best sounding release of this show.  But you won't be disappointed one bit if you download either of the two copies (out of many more) I've uploaded here so far.

Enjoy the show and take a stroll down memory lane back to 44 years ago tonight...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-02-12 New York, NY (DVD-A_SB_LPCM 96/24_2 DVD + Bonus Video)

As I stated when I uploaded Godfather Records 3 CD release of this show a few years back, "This is by far one of the best sounding Led Zeppelin soundboards to ever surface.  This recording is a perfect, studio quality recording of Led Zeppelin's complete concert at Madison Square Gardens on February 12, 1975."

Well, this is even better.  It is Empress Valley Supreme Disc's two DVD-A of the show and they are true DVD-A discs too.  The AUDIO_TS folder has the 96 kHz/24 bit high quality audio files (.AOB file extension) in it and it isn't just a VIDEO_TS audio files type of DVD-A.  Don't worry if this makes no sense to you.  Just know this is better!  And the photographs used as a slideshow during the concert's audio being listened to are great too.

True DVD-A discs like these can be confusing to many people as to how they are suppose to be burned.  Many (if not most) DVD burning programs do not burn these or burn them correctly.  And some people wind up buying programs specifically aimed at burning and making these types of DVD-A discs.  And even when a program does burn the DVD-A and it seems like all is well, many times it did not actually burn the AUDIO_TS folder to the disc since there are seldom any real audio DVD's made like this and the programs don't bother adding the ability to burn the AUDIO_TS folder or its contents.  Do not think that just because you put were able to burn this download to DVD's and and they play that you have it burned right.  You need to look at the disc on a PC, check and make sure the AUDIO_TS folder is on the disc, and be sure there are files in that folder adding up to above 3 GB on each disc.  If so, then the disc has been burned right by your software.  If not, and on DVD 1 as an example, you have only 311 MB worth of files and not 3.9 GB like you should have, you got a lossy burn and not the high quality one you are capable of getting.

I was having the same issues and problems myself as I mentioned in the above paragraph.  I couldn't find a Windows program to burn the true DVD-A disc for free either.  I put the show aside for a few weeks trying to find a way to do this burn for low-to no cost.  That was all until earlier this morning when I thought of an idea I'd had based on working on a similar (but different) problem/project in the past.  So, here is what I tried and it worked just as I hoped it would!  I created two ISO files (or image files); one for each DVD-A.  So instead of having the whole DVD-A structure and files to look at in the original file set I had gotten, you now have just one ISO file for each disc you'll be burning.  And it will burn the AUDIO_TS folder as well as the VIDEO_TS folder and files to your discs and you'll have the files for the high quality audio.  All you need to do is have a program that will burn the ISO files to disc and there are pleanty of free ones out there.  I believe a program called CDBurnerXP, easily located with a Google search, will work fine if you are using a Windows PC.

This is a lot of extra explaining before even getting to the details in this post I know.  But I want to be sure anyone not familiar with  real and true DVD-A burning  knows up front what they may need to do.  It's not hard at all either.  But if you don't do it right it'll either not work or it will be lossy audio you're listening to.

It's my opinion that the bonus video, incorrectly listed as Nassau Coliseum on the artwork, is pro shot.  It has the time code, the person shooting it had more than a home 8mm video camera, the location of the person and their movements were right at the stage, and in one part I believe a photographer is caught in the video standing next to them.  This show likely has more footage!  And for all I know, the whole concert may have been filmed.  Either way, the DVD-A 96/24 audio is superb here and it is one of the best sounding unreleased Zeppelin shows to have surfaced in recent years.

One last comment and note I want to mention is I have reworded this post before posting it.  However, the text file I zipped up and started on uploading this morning is the old, pre proofread, and fast first draft I made just to get the 8 GB of files uploading before I left for a while.  So if you want to copy and paste this post from the web and add it as your test file, it'll be the updated and fixed version of the information on this show and the recordings.

I know you'll enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-03-21 Seattle, WA (DVD-A_AUD 1st Gen Source 1 & 2 Masters Mix_1 DL DVD)

Here's another excellent Zeppelin show from from 39 years ago today.  There are a ton of versions/labels for this show but this one is the best in my opinion.  And it's in the DVD-A (DVD Audio) format too and has a slideshow of photos from the show as the music plays.  Plus, it's at a higher sample rate (48 kHz) and higher bitrate (24 bit) too giving us higher quality audio.  This is likely the definitive edition for this show!

The majority of this show is the Source 1 recording.  Source 2 was used to fill in gaps missing from Source 1 such as those when the master reels (tapes) were being changed.  The information above, as well as the text file from the original uploader, explains things in more detail.

Rather than waste time by creating my own text and checksum files, I uploaded the file set exactly the same way as I got it.  I was gone much of the day today and figured it'd be a lot quicker to just upload the file set the way it was while I was gone and not wait until I got home, organized things the way I like them organized, and then start uploading the show.

The original sharer put the md5 checksum file into the VIDEO_TS folder.  With most DVD burning programs that isn't an issue at all.  But there are some programs that won't burn a DVD with that file in the main video folder.  But it's no problem.  All you have to do is move the file titled "VIDEO_TS.md5" and put it anywhere (like in the EXTRAS_TS folder for instance) outside of the VIDEO_TS folder.  And if you want to run the checksum file, to verify the file set's contents, just add it back to the VIDEO_TS folder and check it from there.

I hope you enjoy this gem from 39 years ago...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-02-27 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (DVD_A_AUD_1 DVD)

I'd planned on uploading a version of this show yesterday, it being 42 years ago yesterday, but decided to wait until I could get this copy since it is the best.  Thanks to friends over at R-O for making this one available to me.  This is an excellent quality DVD audio (DVD-A) done by Genuine Masters a number of years back and it contains some extra video of Led Zeppelin from Australia in 1972 I haven't even watched yet.  I've likely seen it before, but at the same time, until I get a chance to see it later today I don't know if there is anything extra I haven't seen or not?

Just from sampling the DVD-A via the PC's Bose speakers after waking up this morning, I can definitely tell this is the best version of this concert I have now.  Genuine Masters did an excellent job of using concert photos, posters, ticket stubs, and other goodies as they display and change frequently on the screen while the high quality audio is playing through your DVD player.  In a review I read prior to getting the show, it was mentioned a few other images from the 1972 Australian dates were also used.  The majority of the reviews (and I didn't get to read them all yet) were stunning and I can see and hear  why now.  I left the sharer's original text file with reviews from Underground Uprising in the upload for those who care to read it.

This is a must have item if you are a Led Zeppelin fan and collector!

I know you'll enjoy this one...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-01-05 Los Angeles, CA (DVD-A_2 & 5.1 Channel Audio_1 DVD)

PREFACE: I GOT THE 3.26 GB, 48 KHZ/24 BIT LOSSLESS VERSION OF THIS SHOW AFTER MAKING THIS POST AND WILL UPDATE & UPLOAD IT SOON.  THE VERSION UPLOADED CURRENTLY (IN THIS POST) HAD REASON TO BE SUSPICIOUS LOOKING IN FILE SIZE AND THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS LOSSY.  ONCE I UPLOAD THE LOSSLESS COPY, YOU'LL KNOW BECAUSE YOU WON'T BE READING THIS.

This is an audio DVD (DVD-A) of a very, very early Zeppelin show as they were starting their career.  Led Zeppelin I hadn't even been released yet.  It was released 7 days after this show in fact according to RambleOnZep's great site.

It's been summarized in the original sharer's text file (left intact in this upload) that there were probably no more than 100 people at the venue on this last night in Los Angeles (for a short time anyhow).  This is Zeppelin at around 3 to 4 months into being known as Led Zeppelin and no longer their short-lived, contract fulfilling name The New Yardbirds.  And it's a great piece of history as well as a great sounding recording and show too!

I have to admit, I'm a little confused by the higher sample rate and bitrate properties of 48 kHz/24 bit and 96 kHz/24 bit audio and the actual file size of this upload (366 MB).  I'd expect this to have a lot larger file set size, but I've only built one DVD-A myself so far and it was three Zeppelin shows and right around 1 GB.  You can see on the back EVSD artwork below the following information on audio attributes:

(1) PPCM DVD Audio @ 96 kHz/24 bit in (A) 5.1 Channel Surround & (B) 2 Channel Stereo/Mono audio.
(2) Dolby Digital Audio @ 48 kHz/24 bit in (A) 5.1 Channel Surround & (B) 2 Channel Stereo/Mono audio.

The math doesn't add up to me.  I'm wondering if DVD Decrypter, used to process the original EVSD silver DVD transfer, may not have re-encoded the audio?  I'm really not sure and will check a little more on another PC before posting this.  But either way, it is in 5.1 and 2 channel audio streams and sounds better than other versions I know of or have heard (just as good as the FLAC CD version with the same title).  It sounds excellent in fact and much, much cleaner than many of the earlier versions I've run across over the years.

After more research, and after reading a thread on R-O about this DVD-A, it appears up-sampling was done on the 48 kHz/24 bit audio to get the 96 kHz/24 bit reported audio.  And that audio is reportedly in the AUDIO_TS folder which I do not have in my file set.  There reportedly is a 24 bit audio version and I hope to be able to get it sometime soon.  So, I'm still a little confused about this upload I'm sharing here.  The statistics on what I find on my copy are all below, and if this winds up being over sampled or lossy, I'll just upload the CD version of the show when I know more.  This DVD-A I'm uploading still sounds great and it's small enough in file size to where you can't go wrong by giving it a listen for yourself too.

I left the original uploaders files all in the upload and added them to the EXTRAS folder.  It contains their DVD Decrypter text file, information text file, md5 checksum file, and the 200 dpi artwork scans.
