Boston: 1978-11-06 Boston, MA (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_1 CD)

This is a great sounding Boston show that was transferred from cassette tape and shared back in 2006 and then reseeded recently on Dime.  This is a little different than the commonly known Party To Boston CD released by a label I'm not sure of.  I think it was released by and unknown label really and of course they messed with the audio and did what labels do.  This copy however is a second generation, non bootleg label cassette copy.

The original artwork for Party To Boston was reworked by the recent reseeder to reflect this second generation recording.  However, the setlist is still tracked for the 2 CD set the artwork was originally made for (the boot label) and it looks like "Television Politician" was just added at the end of CD 2 (remember, this was the 74 minute CD days).  I went ahead and left it in the upload so it's included even though both versions independently will fit on one CD-R nowadays.

And by the way, the bootleg label's copy of the show did not have "Television Politician" on it but this second generation copy does making it a (more) complete show according to the sharing party.  My copy of Party To Boston does have "Television Politician" but maybe it was added at a later date?

A friend on the Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog Facebook Secret Group (Facebook's name for the type of group) had asked if I had any RTZ (Return To Zero), a band composed of by a few Boston members during their hiatus including the late Brad Delp.  I did not have anything from RTZ.  All I could find was an mp3 copy of a RTZ 1991 Cleveland show and y'all know what I think of lossy audio.  So in an attempt to honor a request I could not quiet fill yet, I thought I'd share this recently re-shared Boston show.

All thanks and credit goes to the original taper and "zootype" for this August 2015 reseed on Dime!

The recording is not without its flaws.  But it is the best copy I've heard of this show out of the two I have heard.  The first was the aforementioned Party To Boston bootleg label release.

I'm not sure why "zootype" redid the tracking and put multiple songs together?  But he did and that's the way the show in this download is tracked.  The waveform also shows audio clipping in most songs meaning the audio was a little louder than it should've been in either the recording level, tape transfer, or in the work done on the project.  Some songs have no clipping while others are not bad.  But a few have heavier clipping points  indicated by the waveform looking in Audacity.

While this isn't RTZ, some of the songs (as well as the members) were used in the RTZ show setlists I saw when researching and looking for any shows from RTZ.

If anyone has any RTZ shows, studio outtakes, or just has any information where I might be able to find any lossless RTZ RoIO's, please let me know either in a comment or on the Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog Facebook Community Page (different than the Secret Group one).  All of the information on the Facebook sites can be found under the "Contact" HTML link on the right side of my site if you look and/or scroll up or down.  And thank you if you can help too!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1979-09-18 Gothenburg, Sweden (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

This is a great sounding Boston show from Sweden in 1979.  I've only listened via the PC but just burned it to disc to listen in the living room.  This one comes in just under the limits for needing a second CD or for using the overburn feature some programs offer.  If anything needs updating, I'll come back and add it to this post.

The waveform looks great for this show and I believe it was just one song that had a little clipping near the end.  I didn't listen to the audio where the clipping was located, but I'm willing to bet it was someone in the crowd and close to the recorded cheering and yelling.  And that can easily cause some clipping unexpectedly especially in the pre-digital, cassette tape days.

I'm wondering if this is the full show or not?  I don't recall the shows ending with "Something About You", but I could be wrong.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1988-12-10 Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is a great-to-excellent recording of Boston's show 26 years ago tonight in Canada.  This show comes as a 2 CD recording of the 1988-12-10 Winnipeg concert and 1 DVD-R of their 1988-12-07 Hamilton, Ontario concert in its original release.  But unfortunately I was only able to get the 2 CD part of the show at the time I found it on a Japanese website (and I don't know how to read Japanese).  I used a translator, which years ago did not work as well as many today do, and I believe the only thing being shared at the time was the 2 CD set.

But wait!  The story doesn't end there.  The locating and acquiring of the 2 CD part of the boot release long ago did not wind up being the end thankfully.  Years later, I was able to come across the 1988-12-07 DVD from Hamilton too.  And it is really great quality for being an audience shot video from 26 years ago.  I may upload it if there is any interest in it.  But I'm not uploading it with this 1988-12-10 Winnipeg, Manitoba  2 CD set today.

As I mentioned, the boot label release of this show was part of a two dates, CD and DVD-R release.  So the artwork has both dates listed in the setlist on the back.

This is really a great capture of both shows (the DVD and 2 CD dates).  And there are some really rare songs played too.  I cannot recall, other than a few nights earlier and on the DVD-R, where or when Boston may have played the song "Hitch A Ride" before?  I don't think they played this one live during their 1970's touring at all.  I could be wrong, but I do know for sure it is a rarely played track if it had been played at all before 1988.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1977-04-03 Philadelphia, PA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

Here's a real nice Boston show from 1977 shared by "tonsofsobs" almost a year ago.  The second half of the concert sounds a lot better for some reason.  Maybe the taper changed their location or something similar happened.  But whatever the reason, it is an enjoyably show.

The waveform for this recording shows an excellent audio recording with no clipping of the audio at all.  I'm going off of my memory from listening to this show last December when it was shared as well as listening to a few clips on the PC here today.  But this is a great recording with some excellent sections in it too I'd say.  The sharing party, "tonsofsobs", gave it a B+ in his rating opinion.

I'm looking for my CD-R burned copy I made to listen to it again today.  I may actually listen to a few Boston shows today?   Today is the first really cold day (and I LOVE the cold) of the year in my area.  I think I'll make me some hot chocolate, put in a show, and kick back and jam out today.

It's a great thing to me reminiscing when an Arctic front finally makes its way into the area and it somehow causes me to start thinking about the days when I was growing up.  I always loved the winter and hitting the roads and driving with a tape like Boston, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Led Zeppelin, or about a thousand more bands I liked listening to.  I'd probably be preparing myself for a camping trip on this cold weekend back in my younger, no vision problem years.  I'd be setting things up to where I could kick back around my campsite and campfire with a friend (or a few), have the tunes playing, and just enjoying the company and memories being made.  And today, not being able to do those things I use to (very seldom if ever anymore), it does the soul good to remember those good ole days, the friends.  Some I still talk to and they're still around, some I have no idea where they are, and some are gone and/or passed away today.

What I wouldn't give to be able to go camping with my ole friend Johnny Davis and his brother, me great friend Ed, like we use to.  We'd take our tents, a boat, our fishing poles, and whatever else we needed including the tunes and head out to the Sam Houston National Forest and Lake Conroe often.  Johnny was a country western listener while I was roick 'n' roll listener.  But he always enjoyed the Journey, Bad Company, many other bands, and especially Boston recordings I had.  Johnny passed away earlier this year so those days are just memories now and memories I'll never forget.  Rest in peace old friend and I'll be thinking of the many trips we made as I listen to Boston today.  Heck, I might even open the front and back doors on the house and let the cold air in as a reminder of how much fun it was camping out and sitting around the fire talking and having a good time :-)

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1987-06-20 Dallas, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Twenty-seven years later, and I still have not ever seen Boston live yet!  This show was my first real chance to go see them but I never got to make it.  Friends, driving up from Houston to Dallas, were going and for whatever the reason was at the time, I could not go.  Not only was it Boston's return to the stage for the very first time since 1979 but it was the second from last Texxas Jam (also called Monsters of Rock) year too.  And I missed them both!

I really want to see Boston even though I lost the chance to see the Brad Delp Boston when he dies in 2008.  Still, I want to see the band and since transportation is always the big issue with me nowadays, I just cannot afford buying two tickets every time I want to see a band and record their show.  But I need to do it with Boston because they're one of the all-time American greats and they're a huge part of rock 'n' roll history too.

Whoever recorded this show really did a great job for most of it.  The recording has flaws but it also is a very nice, excellent recording throughout most of the show too.  I think the second half sounds a little better too up prior to the encore.  If you've ever been to a Texxas Jam, you know just how difficult and almost impossible it was to get a recording this good.  People were loud, it was hot, most everyone was drunk, and it was just not a good environment to record a show in.  But this recording has very clean vocals and instruments making me think this person recording it had to be up close and had to have been slightly away from the main crowd.  You'll hear people talking at some points and things like that.  But overall, the show is great sounding!

I still wish I could go back and redo whatever it was that kept me from going to this show almost 30 years ago.  But since I can't, I'll just have to accept this is the closest I'll ever come to having been there.

UPDATE: I forgot I have a ticket to this show even though I didn't get to go.  I'd have included it in the upload had I remembered it just in case anyone was ever nice enough to create some artwork or wanted a copy themselves for historical purposes (maybe they were there and don't have their ticket).  Anyhow, the ticket scan I'm adding below was not from me attending.  It was from a friend who attended and gave me their ticket about 15 years ago before I ever had a copy of the show!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 2014-06-18 Allen, X (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

Here's an excellent capture of the Boston show in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by "whotapes" about a week ago.  Boston has always been a band I have loved a lot.  And even though I've collected as many shows as I could find of them (past and present), there just aren't as many shows available from their earlier years due to the history of the band.  And the earlier years (1976 - 1979) are my favorite years for their live concerts too.

After Brad Delp's 2008 death, I wasn't expecting to hear much more of Boston other than through live recordings of past shows.  But they did come back and sound and play great even today.  The YouTube found singer, Tommy DeCarlo, does a great job of pulling off the songs with the Brad Delp style and sound.  While no band still around today that made it through the 1970's can ever sound as good as they did in their heyday, Boston comes as close to doing it as the best of them do.

Boston put on a spectacular sounding show this night.  They seem to be able to maintain their "old sound" better than a lot of bands can nowadays.  I've yet to see Boston, not by choice, and they are one of the top bands I want to see in my life too.  I've never been able to get anyone to go, and being legally blind and unable to drive, it really sucks that I can't get any friends to be interested enough to go see them.  When did everyone get so old?  Anyhow, I have more than a feeling that I will see them and the next time they're in my area too.  So enough about that!

I'm making no changes to this upload in an effort to still save time and be able to upload a show before my day begins.  So other than the "Bootradr's TLH CDDA Test" text file showing no lossiness (and I checked for SBE's too), this upload is another "as is" upload.

I hope you enjoy "whotapes" trip to Boston in Dallas/Fort Worth.  I did...

Boston: 1977-03-19 Long Beach, CA (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM_1 CD)

Here is another superb quality Boston show that comes from a pre-FM source (it wasn't recorded off-air by someone at home).  This is reportedly the full show and it was broadcast later (1977-10-16 most likely) in the year by the radio program King Biscuit Flower Hour.  A lot of artwork has the wrong date on it.  Many versions show October 16, 1977.  But the chances are better that this was the date it was broadcast because it definitely wasn't the concert date.

This show and the 1976-09-27 Cleveland, Ohio show I just uploaded are two of (if not the two) best sounding unreleased shows in circulation.  They are superb in quality.

On a side note, as I was searching for artwork for this specific upload, I came across an exciting fact.  Boston is releasing a new album on 2013-12-03 (in the USA anyhow).  It is not a "greatest hits" type reissue either and has all new, unreleased tracks.  According to the official Boston website, it has tracks with Brad Delp, Tommy DeCarlo, Kimberley Dahme, David Victor, and Tom Scholz on vocals.  And according to Boston's Tom Scholz, "...They have all been meticulously recorded to analogue tape on the same machines and equipment used for Boston's hits for the past 35 years."  The album was reportedly made over 10 years ago and is now officially being released.  If you are a Boston fan, buy it!  I always believe in supporting the artists we like by buying their officially released music.  I'll be buying it for sure!

I hope you enjoy this superb Long Beach 1977 show too...

This is a superb sounding pre-FM show of Boston aired by WMMS FM at a later date.  The quality is superb and the band is too.  This was my first Boston show I ever got even though this upload is not from my silver CD.  It is from another collector's silver CD and was ripped with EAC.

NOTE: In the info file I created, I accidentally used the date of 1979-09-27 instead of 1976-09-27.  Since it's already uploaded and waiting for your download, I'm leaving it as is.

Master cheap (according to taper) Panasonic cassette recorder with built in microphone > ScotchBrand Low-Noise/Low-Bias C-120 master cassette > Sound Forge 8 (for light EQ work) > TLH > shared > Media Creator 2010 Pro (to name tracks) > TLH (to fix CD 2 SBE's, create new ffp file, and a new md5 file and verify) > you!

NOTE: The SBE errors may or may not have been on CD 2 originally.  They may have been caused a while back when I used Media Creator 2010 Pro to name the tracks.  Either way, they're fixed so there is no pops if you burn to CD-R).

I left "BDK's" ffp text files in their respective folders even though I had to create new ones due my naming of the songs/tracks.  I'm not really sure if this will be useful to anyone or not, but just in case, they're there.

I'm listening to this show right now and that "cheap" Panasonic with a built in microphone that was used did a great job of capturing this show!  The taper did a great job too.  There is a deep, clean bass and the instruments and vocals (or highs) all sound very well balanced.  I wish they still made "cheap" recorders that did this good of a job today!  This is a very enjoyable recording and show and it has the full sound you'd hope to get out of a Boston show from almost 35 years ago...

Boston: 1979-04-20 Tokyo, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Your mom always told you it was good to share, right?  Well, she was right.  After uploading my 1979-04-18 Boston show on Dime yesterday, today a Dime member shared the third night's show that has been missing!

This is the third night of Boston on their 1979 Japan leg of their tour.  And it sounds great!  I've already uploaded the first (1979-04-18) and second (1979-04-19) shows here.  So if you want them, feel free to grab them.

There is an error on CD 1 on the last track.  "A Man I'll Never Be", around the 5 minutes, 11 seconds mark, has a temporary flaw.  It's a digital error that occurs but soon after quits.  There is some skipping and pops at the error point.  But it's nothing to worry about because the rest of the show, and even the rest of the song, seems to be just fine.

Thanks to "tonsofsobs" for sharing this show and to "Blackmagic" for getting him this show to share.

For some unknown reason,  "Foreplay/Long Time" wasn't done by the band this third and last night in Tokyo in 1979.  It doesn't sound as if the track was removed or there are any gaps or cuts where the song goes.  It just seems like Boston didn't play it this night.

So, all three nights are now here!  I don't have any artwork for the show but will add a ticket scan to the bottom of this posting that was posted in a reply to my upload of the 4/18 show on Dime yesterday (a second surprise after sharing).  It's not the ticket for the night of this show being uploaded, but it is from the set of the three nights they played Tokyo in April of 1979...

Boston: 1979-04-18 Tokyo, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of Boston's first of three nights of playing in Tokyo in 1979.  I recently uploaded the second night, 1979-04-19, and a lot of people have grabbed that one.  So, I figured I'd go ahead and upload their frist night's show now.

I noticed something interesting as I was getting this show and the artwork together.  This date (1979-04-18), being Boston's first night in Tokyo, was also Journey's last night in Tokyo that I uploaded recently.  Boston played at Budokan Hall (larger venue) and Journey played at Shibuya (a 2084 seating venue...much smaller) on this night.  Wow, what a choice that would've been.  Do I go see Boston or Journey tonight?  I'd have picked Journey myself, but I would have hated to miss seeing Boston that night too!

I have no idea of the lineage of this recording and I got it from a Japanese sharing site I could not even read most of the text on (I don't know Japanese).  But I did fix the sector boundary errors (SBE's) using TLH before this upload.

As with so many shows recorded in Japan, this one is another great one.  It truly sounds like a soundboard recording throughout much of the show.

I think I recently stated I liked the 1979-04-19 show better and thought it sounded better.  I'm going to have to recheck this now.  This might be the better recording.  Either way, they're both great shows and great recording from Tokyo 1979!

I'm still searching for a lossless copy of the third and closing show from Boston's three nights playing in Tokyo before they left Japan.  he date of the last Tokyo 1979 show is 1979-04-20.  Please let me know if you have it or know where to find it :-)

What a time it must have been to have lived in Japan, had tickets to all of these excellent bands and performances we've collected over the years, and to have just said "I was there" during the 1970's (and later)!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1979-04-19 Tokyo, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here is an excellent sounding Boston show I got about two years ago of their second night in Tokyo during the 1979 Don't Look Back tour.  I have the previous night's show too, but this one sounds so much better that I'm uploading it.  If anyone's interested in the first night's show from Tokyo, just leave a reply and I'll upload that show too when I see the desire for it.  It is also a great recording.  But this one is definitely the better of the two.

I don't know how the Japanese people do it?  Maybe they've just always had better equipment (recorders, tapes, etc).  But they know how to capture their shows in high quality recordings that make you feel like you're at the show.  And the Japanese crowds are so much more polite and quiet while the bands play their music.  They wait until the transitions between songs to yell and cheer.  You got to love that!

Boston actually played three shows in Tokyo on this 1979 tour.  The first one (I already mentioned) was 1979-04-18, or the night before.  I've heard the third show exists but I don't have it (yet).  So they had at least one more night in Budokan Hall and that was the next night on 1979-04-20.  And I believe that wrapped up their 1979 tour in  Japan and they moved on to their US leg of the tour and hit the American cities across the country.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Boston: 1979-02-06 Fort Worth, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is a super rare Boston show with very, very low circulation.  I got this is a trade about 15 years ago, and if memory serves me correctly (no guarantee it does), it came from the trader's master recording.  Either way, in all of my years of trading and collecting live and rare music, I've never once seen this anywhere.  I even did an internet search looking for this recording being mentioned anywhere today.  I found nothing on it.  I did find a number of sites referencing the show and date at the Tarrant County Convention Center.  But I couldn't find anything on this recording or any recording of this show.

The trader also sent me about 25 to 35 pictures from the concert.  I don't believe he took them however.  I'm sure he was busy recording the show.  I have looked high and low for where I have these pictures stored but have not found them yet.  I have a feeling (actually more than a feeling :-)) they are on an old 486 DX66V Gateway PC (pre-Pentium) or on an old external hard drive somewhere around the house.  If I can find them, I'll make another upload of them and add it to my website as a zipped WinRAR file and post the link.

Here is a great pro shot recording of an old Boston show at Giant's Stadium ("The Meadowlands").

I left the extra text and html files that were in the original lossless download I found of this show to give credit to the original uploader/blogger who found this copy I'm uploading. I only re-sized/renamed the zipped files in WinRAR to have fewer (but larger) downloads and I posted new, working links I created.

I'd sure love to find some more early (and later) Boston videos if anyone has them. I have a few different Boston DVDs, but they range from 1987 to 200x. I don't know if any earlier audience or pro shot material exists in the trading/sharing realm or not?

Enjoy... :-)
