Page & Plant: 1996-02-06 Tokyo, Japan (DVD_AUD Shot Master Remaster_1 DVD)

This is a show that has been requested for close to two months now.  It is the remaster of the Page and Plant 1996-02-06 Tokyo, Japan audience shot show filmed by Third Eye.

This is an excellent sounding show but unfortunately Jimmy Page's guitar is not heard as well as it should be.  I think it was a sound issue with the venue or soundman on this night because when he picks up other guitars, like his double neck Gibson, he can be heard better.  It's when he plays his primary Gibson Les Paul that the sound is not right or loud enough in my opinion.  But the video shot was done very nicely and the audio does sound excellent for the most part.

One other thing I wish was not the case in this DVD is the lackluster sounding performance on this night.  It just doesn't seem like the band was really into the music as much on this night as they were on the other Japanese 1996 shows.

Robert Plant does sound great vocally on this night and Michael Lee is awesome on the drums.  I'm sure Jimmy Page was doing a great job as well but it just isn't as easy to hear his guitar in this one show.  But I'm not trying to discourage anyone from checking it out.  You may not agree with my review anyhow?

There are a few tiny errors in the show or more specifically the recording.  It is nothing major and just small things like a few split second dropouts in the audio and video.  A few times the sound lessens some also from the microphone being  covered or pointed away it sounds like.  But again, it is not for any long periods of times and these are just small issues that are few and far in between each other.

I have this 2006 Third Eye 1 DVD copy I am uploading today.  There is a 2 DVD copy of this same, exact recording but it is not really any better quality wise.  The picture is slightly sharper and the audio used is 256 kbps audio.  But it is not anything noticeable and it was done on a standalone DVD burner with the automatic 5 minute chapters and no menus to pick and choose individual songs if you want to do that.  The chapters are not at the beginning of the songs and navigating through the show and it is not as easy as it is with this 1 DVD copy built much better.

I am including the artwork for the 2 DVD copy and it makes me wonder if a more professionally built 2 DVD copy may exist.  I can always upload the 2 DVD copy I have and spoke about in the future if anyone wants it bad enough.

A special thanks goes out to "Amduscia" for sharing this copy over on R-O!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Plant: 1998-11-19 Milano, Italy + Italy Bonus TV Extras (Video_AUD Shot 1st Gen_1 DL DVD)

This DVD of the 1998 Jimmy Page & Robert Plant performance in Milano, Italy was requested about a month ago and I am finally able to upload it today.  This is an excellent recording and a pretty good job by the taper of getting some good, close up video of the show too.  It is not perfect and at times the camera either is messing up or the generation of the tape may be the issue causing the video to look a little grainy.  But it is still an very enjoyable DL DVD and one of the best performances by Page on "No Quarter" in the 1998 tour I believe.

The audio is very good and on the great-to-excellent side of things I'd say.  It too isn't without flaws but they are the kind of flaws I can deal with too.  The audience is very excited but the recording seems to be pretty well balanced in not having a lot of audience noise during the music.  The audio is straight from the video recorder's audio track on the master VHS.  There seems to be some distortion in places but it is not bad and that would be almost expected using an older 1980's - 1990's VHS video camera.

As I mentioned already, the video goes between real clean and sharp video to a grainy, pixilated looking video throughout the show.  I'm not sure of the cause but the sharing party I got the show through mentions they think it was due to a camera malfunction.  I don't think this is the case however.  To me, this seems more like a lighting issue as well as the generation of the tape too.  It may even be an interference introduced in the transfer of the video tape when it was done or possibly heads that needed cleaning that could have caused the issue?  The camera's chip set
(and it may not have had one) may have been an issue too but the drastic change I believe is due to this tape's transfer and generation most likely.

There are some tracking issues at the bottom of the screen but they take up a small portion of the screen and again do not ruin anything.  A good head cleaning might have fixed that on the video recorder or the SVHS recorder it had been transferred too?  It's all speculation on my part of course and this is not meant to belittle the great quality and job done on this DVD project either.  I've just seen similar issues occur when I had old VHS recorders with heads needing cleaning or even adjustments and alignments in years past.  I have a room right now with about 6 - 10 4-head Hi-Fi VHS recorders in it and even an SVHS recorder that all work great.  They just need head cleaning and alignment of heads to function at 100% full quality and nowadays you have to do this stuff yourself since repair shops have disappeared in today's disposable digital society.

The video is listed as a first generation VHS tape that was transferred correctly and digitally to a digital PC format.  But I think the generation may be a little higher than what the party building the DVD was originally told most likely.  I could be wrong though.  I'll upload a sample of my favorite song in this show and most of it is in the higher quality, cleaner looking moments too.  But you should see the moments where the video changes and looks grainy with no question of where it may be.

The band sounds especially superb on this night and they seem very musically charged!  Jimmy Page especially does and he plays like he is playing in a 1975 Led Zeppelin show more that like in a 1998 Page & Plant show it seems.  He is putting his heart and soul into the music and the solos are longer in many songs as well.  Just when you think he's about to finish up and get back into the chorus of the song, he adds something new and picks it all up again just like he did in the day.  "No Quarter" is one of the best versions of the song played on the tour I believe and what makes it great for me is Page's long and awesome solo and what he puts into it.  "Babe I'm Going To Leave You" is the same and he plays it with a longer version of the 1998 additional part he added in during the tour.  Robert Plant sounds like he is having a great time and feeling a little nostalgic or in the "Zep Daze" too it seems.  The rest of the band is doing an excellent job as well and there is some really great, John Bonham looking almost, video of the late Michael Lee banging away on the drums at full speed and force very powerfully.  I was always amazed by how well he pulled off taking over John Bonham's shoes in the two tours Page & Plant used him on their two tours.  There is no replacing John Bonham of course.  But if you needed someone to try and do an excellent job, well Michael Lee was the guy I think.

I really wish I had been able to have watched this full show again before uploading it overnight.  It has been a few years since I've seen it from start to finish.  But I did watch a good amount of it last night and some as I was sick and trying to recover from a 7 day stomach virus over the last week.  It was hard to pay attention to anything as I slept on the couch and kept running back and forth to the restroom all week.  But I did get to lay back and listen and enjoy it through the home setup off and on.

I'm really grateful to "ZoSo64" for sharing this DL DVD in February of 2010 on Dime and all thanks for sharing it.  He not only shared it but he also built the DVD using high quality methods and he created the artwork for the show too.  He was unable to recall the information on the Italian taper that recorded the show and he got it from.  But a huge thanks goes out to him too!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Pant: 1998-09-23 Las Vegas, NV (DVD_Pro Shot & AUD Shot_SB/Pre-FM Master Audio_1 DL DVD)

This version of this show was recently requested by a friend and I'm getting a chance to finally upload it tonight.  This is the upgraded version of the Las Vegas 1998 Page & Plant show and it uses the master pre-FM audio Jimmy Page reportedly did not want to use or air (it's excellent so I don't know why) rather than the mono audio on the more common version of the show from Third Eye.

The video is also made up of about 1/3 of the show sourced from a pro shot video source and then the other2/3 being sourced from the Third Eye audience shot source.  These are just rough estimates but I believe they're close.  The audio used throughout the whole show is the LPCM pre-FM soundboard master audio.  This is an excellent copy of the show and the very best I know of so far.

At first I thought the audio for the show was a matrix of the SB/pre-FM material and an audience audio source (probably Third Eye's recording).  But I realized this was not the case and this may be why Page didn't like this audio and did not want to air it.  It sounds like the crowd can definitely be heard in between songs louder than usual but still not at all bad sounding.  I actually like this audio better than if it had no crowd noise at all in between songs like some recordings have.  There is no explanations or information as to why Page did not like the audio and would not let it be aired.  And it's purely speculation on my part that it may be because it has a matrix and louder audience noise sound to it.

The text file that came with this DL DVD was very limited with information in it.  There was no lineage, no explaining anything, and really nothing other than a setlist and some basic here it is.  The sharing party did state they had higher expectations and plans for the project but they didn't have time to do the work they'd wanted to do so they were just uploading it.  And that's fine.  There is no menu but there are chapters for each song.

I have no idea if the rest of the show had been professionally shot or where this pro shot part of it came from.  But thankfully it was available to add.  And of course Third Eye's work, as almost always, is very good too.

I recently got the full 2 DVD Third Eye copy of this same Las Vegas show and I may upload it too eventually.  But since this copy is the better copy and a definite upgrade as far as sound and video goes, it was an easy choice to upload this LPCM audio copy with a good amount of pro shot video.  And it was the copy requested anyhow.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Plant: 1995-05-17 Inglewood, CA (DVD_AUD Shot Remaster_LPCM_1 DL DVD)

I am uploading this Jimmy Page & Robert Plant 1995 show tonight because it was requested a few weeks ago by a friend on my Facebook BBBB page.  This is the better of the two copies of this show I have too because it has the LPCM audio and it is a DL DVD.

I just realized something else that I believe makes it better and it comes at an ironic moment.  This is a Blockbuster Production of the Third Eye Productions video.  In other words, "Blockbuster" took the "Third Eye" copy of the show and made his project of it.  And "Blockbuster" is someone who does superb work and really makes superb video projects.

The ironic factor to all of this I'll explain the best I can.  I just private messaged "Blockbuster" about some videos he had sent me a few months ago and I just wanted to see how he has been doing since I last talked with him.  I had been thinking about him over the last week or two since I haven't heard from him lately.  As I was sending a PM to "Blockbuster" before I began preparing this upload, I had no idea that "Blockbuster", a friend that has really helped me out a lot with both audio and video items related to Led Zeppelin, was the one that had created this project I had been planning on sharing.  At the request of my other great friend, Joe, who has also helped me out with some awesome cassette tapes I'm helping him out with transferring, it all came toghether that one friend is really helping two more.

The relationships and friendships I've been able to build with fellow traders and collectors over the years is one of the things I really enjoy the most about this whole "hobby" (for lack of a better word).  I truly enjoy meeting the great friends and the friends helping friends too.  And this is a perfect example of how friends helping friends all comes together in our passion and love of great, rare music.

Third Eye Productions did a great job of capturing the video and audio of the concert like they did on most of the 1995 through 1998 Page and Plant concerts.  The taper recorded other artists too over the years and he (and reportedly his wife helping too) are known for their great audio/video productions.

The Great Western Forum in Inglewood is the same venue of so, so many great concerts over the decades of concerts performed there.  It is the same venue that has had many names such as LA Forum, The Forum, and even Fabulous Forum over the years.  Many associate it with Los Angeles but it really is in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood, California.

The audio sounds excellent in this show and the camera work is excellent too.  I have not watched this concert in years and this January 2015 "Blockbuster" DL project is an upgrade from the VHS copy I had watched last time I saw this concert.

Rather than spend the time to go through it all, and since it is a requested show and the requesting party already knows the details of the show and recording, I'm going ahead and uploading it.  It is a show that Page and Plant fans will enjoy and it is an excellent quality (looking and sounding) production.

One thing I am not sure about has to do with the artwork.  On the side with the setlist, it has both the 1995-05-16 and 1995-05-17 songs listed.  This is only the 1995-05-17 show so why the previous night's setlist is on the artwork I cannot explain.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Aerosmith & Jimmy Page: 1990-08-20 & 1990-09-18 London, Englan (DVD_AUD Shot Master VHS_1 DVD)

I didn't get a chance to upload this requested DVD on its 25th anniversary yesterday.  So I'm doing it today!

This is the performance of the Donnington, UK Monsters of Rock performance on 1990-08-18 with Jimmy Page playing with Aerosmith (just "Train Kept A Rollin'" with Page) and then the 1990-08-20 London, England rehearsals and the following show of Aerosmith (with and without Page) at the Marquee Club. in London

I'm not sure if this was all shot by the same person or not?  Whoever shot the video at the 1990-0818 show and the 1990-08-20 rehearsals had full access where we wouldn't to be up front (8/18) and on stage with the band (8/20).  And the video shot at the 8/20 concert that followed on the same day as the rehearsals looks like a single camera, tripod mounted shoot from the mid section in the balcony area.  I'm not sure if the band had this recorded or someone in the audience recorded it.  But the fact it is tripod shot makes me think it could be the same person who recorded the show on stage too.  So I believe the whole DVD was likely shot by the same guy.

I labelled the tags for this post's video as audience shot but personally I consider it more of a semi pro shot source.

I haven't watched this DVD in a year or so and I'm not planning on watching it all to give a full review this morning.  Besides, I'm still listening to the Tulsa 1970-1970-08-21 Led Zeppelin concert just uploaded and I'm not going to stop it during the "Whole Lotta Love"  medley anyhow!  So this will be a short review since I'm tired and ready  to go to 1sleep.

The DVD starts with the backstage talk between Jimmy Page, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry at the 1990-08-18 Donnington show before they went on stage together.  Aerosmith and Page play "Train Kept A Rollin'" and the camera angle is from in front of the first row or an area concert goers couldn't access it looks like.

The August 20th rehearsals start off the next segment with Aerosmith doing their stuff.  Jimmy Page comes in later and joins them.  There is a lot of talking and deciding how to do the songs (aka rehearsing) going on in that whole segment of the DVD as expected.  The camera angle here is a guy walking around and filming in different areas of the stage,

And finally, the Marquee Club concert is the last part of the DVD.  This is also from the August 20th date and of course after the rehearsals.  The band experiences a sound issue in the show and then the show (about 25 minutes) continues on.  This is the tripod mounted video part of the DVD and the small venue is filled with fans yelling "Jimmy Page" during parts of the show.

Somebody should have taught Steven Tyler the lyrics to "Immigrant Song" before they did this whole gig because he obviously never learned them.  He mumbles non English sounding noises as he sings the song showing he really doesn't know the song at all.

For some reason I was thinking Page did more than one song with Aerosmith in their Donnington Monsters of Rock concert but I guess he just did "Train Kept A Rollin'".  At least that is all he did in this video.

Since I am really running behind and this DVD has taken my much longer to get ready than I had planned, I'm going to wrap things up.  I recommend if you are an Aerosmith fan or a Jimmy page fan you just download the DVD.  I've got to get it uploading now and really cannot spend more time researching and commenting on this DVD.  It is excellent/superb quality and was likely videotaped by a professional camera from someone within the band's (Aerosmith) entourage.  You will like it if you like these artists and want to see a rare recording of them.

Thanks goes to "Amduscia" for sharing another great video on R-O for us to be able to burn to disc and watch!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Plant: 1998-09-21 San Diego, CA (DVD_AUD Shot_LPCM Audio_1 DL DVD)

Here is another requested upload.  In fact, I've had two requests in the last month for both the 1998 shows and for this specific show so that is why I am uploading it today while I have time.

This is an excellent sounding (LPCM audio) dual/double layer DVD of the Jimmy Page and Robert Plant concert in San Diego in 1998.  I really like the sound on this one too.  The mix is excellent and everything from the low bass frequencies to the high vocal and guitar frequencies are present and clean.  The video is great as well but it is a little shaky at times.  It is not a problem though and the camera used by Third Eye Productions has always been a really great (maybe professional) camera so the video looks superb in color, lighting, and overall quality.

While I don't see any mention of this copy being one of the Third Eye Remaster series DVD's, I'm pretty sure it is.  The fact it has LPCM audio as well as being a DL DVD tells me it is.  Most of the original Third Eye releases, originally on VHS tapes, used AC3 audio and had a low 192 kbps audio bitrate too.  And as they were first remastered and put to DVD,  if a show was more than one DVD in size, instead of making a DL DVD (if they were even available back then) the show would be on 2 DVD's.  I believe there was a second wave of remastering done from the master recordings around the 2005 - 2010 time frame and the audio was upgraded (LPCM) as in this show and many of the 2 DVD shows were put onto DL DVD's too.  I cannot say this is all 100% accurate though.  There are still some "remasters" that have the 192 kbps AC3 audio out there too (maybe first remaster series?).

I mention the video is a little shaky in places but it is still much better than most people's handheld video recordings of shows.  The video is not bad either but it is obvious it was not a tripod mounted shooting and was a handheld type in this show from the balcony area on the right section of the venue.  It really is sharp and clear video too.  I've always wondered what kind of camera Third Eye used for all of the shows he shared because it was definitely an excellent, and possibly professional camera.

We're really fortunate to have all of these various concerts recorded by Third Eye using such great equipment and knowing about video and audio too.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Plant: 1996-02-17 Nagoya, Japan (DVD_AUD Shot With SB LPCM Audio_1 DVD)

This is the 2006 remaster of the 1996-02-17 Nagoya, Japan Jimmy Page and Robert Plant concert.  However, this Third Eye Remaster is a little different than most others.  The video is audience a handheld shot of the screen in the venue but the audio used is soundboard LPCM audio synchronized to the video.  It's a nice sounding production for sure.

I'm uploading this at the request of a fellow collector who asked for some specific 1996 and 1998 Page and Plant DVD's over on the BBBB Facebook page.  So there will be more DVD's to follow in the upcoming weeks from this period of Page and Plant performances.

Since I have had a little difficulty getting back into the swing of daily uploads, and since the actual write up is one of the things in preparing each post that takes some time, I'll likely keep uploading the DVD video uploads "as is" in order to save time.  In other words, as long as the file set is already in order and contains a decent information file explaining things, rather than taking the extra time to wait until I do my write up I will just upload the file set the way I have it stored and that way I can let if upload while I'm doing other things preparing the upload or even overnight while I sleep so it will be ready after I get my post made and save some time.

There is something confusing and weird as the DVD starts playing.  It says Page and Plant Osaka and not Nagoya like it the show actually is.  I don't know if this is a Third Eye oversight or just why this occurs.  But it is Nagoya in the video.

The first 3 minutes, 16 seconds played in the video may make you think you're watching a DVD-A because there is no video and the screen just shows the Jimmy Page Zoso emblem with the the Robert Plant leaf under it.  But I guess it is this way because there is no video for the very beginning of the show possibly?  And the video starts off not too professional looking and the taper is filming both the band on stage and then the projection screen and the video is all over the place for a while.  It's shaky and not on target.  It is obviously a handheld video and not a tripod shot video like at least one of the other Page and Plant Tokyo 1996 shows earlier in the tour was.  The corners of the video screen can be seen and the video is a lighter, faded tone when the screen is what is being used to film from.  The whole show from what I can tell is pretty much from the filming of the screen as I look at each song.  And many times the heads are cut off in what is being filmed and the bottom or even top of the projection screen's borders are seen.  It is not a good video job but the audio is superb and it can still be enjoyed.

It's really too bad it had to be done this way and I'm not 100% sure why it was either.  But I'm guessing the taper didn't have a good seat where they could film the stage even though a lot of times you can see the stage in the background as the camerawork moves around filming the video screen.  So who really knows?  It is very difficult to zoom in and film a screen with a handheld camera in case anyone has never tried it!

The real saving grace for the whole project is the superb LPCM (instead of the AC3 192 kbps used on some Third Eye remasters) audio.  It really is superb sounding, mixed very well, and it just sounds really nice.

With all of the Third Eye Page and Plant DVD productions out there that are really excellent ones, he must have had a good reason to have filmed this one the way he did I am thinking.  I'm not complaining at all about it and I appreciate that we have it.  But if the video is what you are getting it for, well, you may be disappointed.  The video is not horrific but it is not great either due to the fact it is video being filmed off of the video screen at the venue.  And by the way, there are times where it looks like the video screen is not being used and the taper is filming directly from the stage.  But it does look like there is someone's head blocking the mid section of the video and it does look like the seating may very well have been the issue and why this is mostly filmed off of a video screen.  It's been a long time since I've watched this video and I noticed this today as I was sampling through the DVD around the song "Tea For One" and in some other areas too.

There aretwo more thing I wanted to mention.  A lot of the Third Eye DVD's have bonus material at the end of the show.  But this one does not.  It is strictly the concert and that is it.  And the second thing I wanted to mention is the download has no artwork in it.  It didn't have it when I got it, and since I uploaded it "as is" to save time, it doesn't contain any artwork.  But I did look online as I was preparing the show and found the artwork which you'll see below.  So if you want any artwork, you'll just need to download it at the bottom of the post of look over on Zepart.com and find it there where I did.

Thanks goes out to "Amduscia" for sharing this DVD set with all of us as he has with so many other shows too!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Page & Plant: 1996-02-09 Tokyo, Japan (DVD_AUD Shot_Master Remaster_2 DVD)

This is the 2006 Third Eye remaster of the video from the Page & Plant 1996-02-09 concert in Tokyo, Japan.  I'm uploading it by request today and will be uploading some more Page & Plant DVDs over the next few weeks too.

I uploaded the zipped files two days ago to my file sharing site but I am now now finally able to post the links because I've been a little busy the last two days.  In an effort to save time, I uploaded the show "as is" and left the house while I was taking care of responsibilities and I did not change anything at all before uploading the files.  I left the original file set and torrent folder exactly as I got it intact.  that means the original checksum (md5) file and the original text already in the file set are what I used.

Led Zeppelin: 1977-04-09 & 1979-04-10 Chicago, IL (DVD_AUD Shot_LPCM_1 DVD)

Today is the 38th Anniversary of the last two out of four concerts Led Zeppelin played in Chicago, Illinois.  These were not only the last two shows in Chicago in 1977;they were the last two shows in Chicago ever.

This bonus DVD came in the EVSD 9 CD Great Chicago Fire set of the April 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th shows the band played on their 1977 tour.  It contains the April 9th and 10th recordings it looks like and also some other 1977 audio from a bonus 1977 American show according to the menu.  It goes with a slide show (kind of a DVD-A within a DVD).

The majority of the disc is the video of the last two nights in Chicago that was recorded from the audience from those nights.  The songs are incomplete due to the video cameras of the 1970's and the tape lengths.  But the video is cool to see and it's close up shots too.  Too bad it is incomplete audio, but it is very cool to watch and see at the same time.

I've got the master (or maybe 1st generation) videos not overdubbed by some of the audience source recordings too.  "KRW_Co" shared those in the past and they contain the audio directly from the cameras used (not many had audio capabilities in 1977 either).  I believe this DVD's audio is overdubbed with the tracks from the last two nights in the EVSD 9 CD set this bonus DVD came with.  But I may be wrong?

The bonus 1977 audio tracks and slideshow from another/other shows was done in a DVD-A method.  The imagery is sharp too and the photos are from more than the Chicago show in 1977.  But it's a cool bonus feature on this bonus disc EVSD added.  I imagine the disc was a limited number of copies kind of deal and probably only came with the full 9 disc Great Chicago Fire box set by EVSD.

If the audio from EVSD's Great Chicago Fire box set of all nights was better audio, I'd have uploaded it a few days ago.  And over time, I'll put it and many other Chicago 1977 copies I've obtained over the years up.  But other than the show cut short on April 9th by Page getting sick, most of the audio is not that noteworthy.  Some sources suffer from distortion as I mentioned in the last post for the April 6th and 7th shows. And while the April 9th show sounds pretty good, the April 10th show is another muddy, not very good sounding recording too.

I hope you enjoy the video from these shows and the bonus material...

Page & Plant: 19996-02-08 Tokyo, Japan (AUD Shot 2 DVD)

This is an excellently shot Third Eye Productions 2 DVD set of the third night of Page & Plant playing Tokyo on their 1996 Japanese leg of the No Quarter tour.  This show was 19 years ago tomorrow.

This an an interesting night too for Page and Plant both as they seem a little relaxed and even make some mistakes and have to start "The Rain Song" as well as "Tea For One" a second time after mess ups.  This is also the "very first time we've played this song" Plant tells the crowd before they restart "Tea For One" again.  It is kind of cool seeing mistakes sometimes from two guys that were masters of making a mistake look like it was just meant to be and part of the song in their Led Zeppelin years.

The Page and Plant song "Yallah" is another song that they start, it isn't going right, so they just end it and never play it.  It's a little difficult to tell if it is the Egyptian Pharaohs fault, the Japanese orchestra's fault, or Page and Plants fault though?  The big Egyptian Pharaohs (leader) guy you see in all of the Page and Plant videos, officially released or unofficially shared, kind of shrugs his shoulders and looks over at the player to his right as if motioning "what was the problem?"  Robert Plant says jokingly at least twice that this is their rehearsals.  So it leaves you to wonder really what is going on this night.

This is also the "Digitally Remastered" copy of the original recording.  I'm not sure what was done, but the video starts off with this text.  Since the video originally was put on VHS in 1996 and we were not burning our own DVD's at home, I imagine it just refers to a digital transfer to a digital media that was made.

The band is actually a little sloppy in this show, but not in a bad way.  They do a great job but kind of play with a little less enthusiasm, quieter, with a lot of mistakes, and almost tired looking too.  It is a rare glimpse into these type of actions seldom seem from performers.  The show is not bad and this is not one of those DVD's you would not enjoy.  Not at all.  It's just a flip side to what we normally see and it makes it very interesting I think.

I did not make a single change to the original file set I got this show through.  I checked the md5 checksum file and everything was fine.  Don't be alarmed if you test it and it shows an error and a file tilted "thumbs.db" is not there.  First, you don't want that file in a torrent upload.  And secondly, it's a hidden file anyhow created by Windows that has absolutely no purpose or function in how anything works.  Do a Google search if you want to know more about it.

Since DVD's seldom need much (if any) changes made to them because the file sets stay the same and nothing really gets changed (no embedding track titles, renaming them, etc) unless a DVD set is just poorly organized within a folder, there is no need to make any changes.  And the text file supplied, the original one, is a basic one that tells you what you want to know too.

I got the show uploading last night "as is" and created my own text file today as I was preparing the upload.  So if I ever have to rebuild or re-upload this DVD set, I'll add it to that new upload.  Or, you can just copy and paste the information in my posting into a text file if there is anything additional in it you want.  And then just save it in the folder with the rest of the basic files.

I'll upload a sample video in a little while so you can get a "YouTube quality" idea of how the show looks.  Give me a hour or two so I can get some things I have to do done and then can come back and make a clip of a song and upload it to YouTube.  I'll add it to the bottom of this post under the artwork real soon.  I don't know what YouTube did to the video, its preview aspect ratio, and overall quality?  But it ruined it.  I'm leaving it because I have things to do.  Use it for the music if the video doesn't somehow fix itself is all I can say right now.  Besides this; always view it on YouTube where the video quality is ALWAYS better than the blog site's sample or a site like Facebook's sample would look too.

I hope you enjoy the concert from nineteen years ago tomorrow...

Jimmy Page: 1988-10-22 Detroit, MI + Bonus (AUD Shot DVD_Upgrade)

Before anything, thanks goes to "Audioarchivi" for sharing this video upgrade over on Dime recently.  This is his third generation copy and project he put together and shared for us to enjoy!

This is an excellent show and recording and a great video upgrade of this performance too.  The video is definitely an upgrade to the exact same source I have that has LPCM audio and is also missing "Who's To Blame".  LPCM audio is preferred of course, at least in most cases, but the video in this copy being shared is much better.  I'm not sure if it is the type of professional VHS tape used to copy it to or if it is the third generation lineage (or both) that makes the video sharper and with less color fading.  But whatever the reason is, it does look better and sounds excellent too.

The song "Who's To Blame" is missing from the video as it is from other videos I've seen of this show.  The sharing party told a story in their Dime share on how he got this recording from the the taper selling it.  It sounds like the guy who had the original video and sold it probably left the first song off as well as chopped out part of the "Stairway to Heaven" solo if you ask me.  Maybe it had to do with the time allotted on VHS tapes, usually 2 hours in 1988, or maybe he did it for future releases of a "complete show" to make more money.  This is just speculation on my part.  But from what the sharing party said in their post, the taper was largely into bootlegging everything from movies (copyrighted material) to concerts and then selling them and he was arrested in a large operation soon afterward.  So, we may never know the full story on the tape here.  But if anyone out there has a copy with "Who's To Blame" and especially a complete "Stairway To Heaven", please speak up.

In the bonus November 4th, 1988 Syracuse, NY video added to the end of this DVD, it cuts out the soon after it gets started.  I am not sure if this was a video from the same taper as the Detroit show but it sounds and looks like it easily might be.  That "Stairway to Heaven" cuts out too.  Maybe this was was done on this DVD because it was the end of the DVD's storage capcity?  Or, maybe it was taped by the same taper and he was cutting the prized song as I mentioned in the above paragraph for later releasing reasons?  This is a DVD I do not have and have not ever seen!  If anyone has the 1988-11-04 Syracuse, NY video, please, please, please share it or let me know!

The artwork included with this upload is the same (wrong) artwork included with ever copy of this show I've ever seen.  It has "Who's To Blame" on the setlist too.  It kind of makes me wonder if "Who's To Blame" was even recorded on 1988-10-22 in Detroit and if someone just accidentally added it to artwork since I've never seen it on a video of the show before?  But it reportedly is on some videos and is the first song played.

I hope you enjoy the concert...
