One thing I really love about the 1978 - 1981 Journey live shows is how the band would play songs from before they had Steve Perry, songs that Gregg Rolie normally sang alone on, and they'd implement some harmony with Perry and Rolie singing. It really brought those songs to life in my opinion. They really did this most often between 1978 and 1979 too. Songs that were officially released on earlier Journey albums and never got recorded (in a studio) with Steve Perry also singing on them makes them very unique.

This is a great recording, and even though there is no mention of it being an FM radio broadcast, collectors over the years have confirmed it is. The sound is not perfect, but it is still great. And once you get to "Wheel In The Sky", you may notice the audio gets better. It is almost as if Dolby noise reduction was turned on throughout the show's recording and then turned off (you normally do not want to use Dolby NR). I'm not saying that's the case in this recording but it does represent what it sounds like to me.
If you like excellent music (Journey), you will love this show. It's a great piece of 36 year old history and very enjoyable listening material too. And Journey only got better from this point on too in their live shows with Steve Perry. They really improved on the Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry (as well as other band members) harmony in shows after this one. In fact, I may be wrong and I'll have to double check my information, but this may be Steve Perry's first live recording/show with Journey too. I just looked at my list and this is definitely the first show I have with Perry on vocals.
I had planned on uploading the Led Zeppelin Los Angeles 1977-03-24 Mike Millard master 3 CD set yesterday as well as this show since it was the anniversary of both. But I'm getting a little burned out on uploading shows lately and I took the day off. I may or may not upload the Zeppelin show from yesterday, the superb 1975-03-25 Mike Millard Los Angeles Zeppelin show from 39 years ago today, and the superb 1978-03-25 New York Journey show from 36 years ago today too? I just don't know at this point.
I hope you enjoy the concert! Until next time...
