Led Zeppelin: 1970-03-12 Dusseldorf, Germany (FLAC_AUD 4 Independent Sources_5 CD)

This is not a mix of four sources into one recording.  This is the recordings of each of the the four sources known to exist.  Since there is no standard for what source is which recording in the big picture, the source 4 recording in this upload is likely what is referred to as source 3 in many other uploads too.  I cannot say with 100% certainty this is the case but it makes the most sense.  Source 4 in this upload is the only two disc source.  And a number of other copies of this show list source 3 as their main source.  For that to be the case, source 3 (or the most complete and longest source) in some of the other recordings has to be source 4 from this upload.  See the setlist below and it'll make better snese than me over-explaining it.

A Zeppelin collector had recently asked for this show so I told them I'd upload it for them as well as anyone else interested in all four sources from 1970-03-12 Dusseldorf.

NOTE: I created a torrent and posted it on Dime.  If your a Dime member, you'll know what to do.  If not, sign up for a free account and READ THE RULES.  Go to http://www.dimeadozen.org for their home page.  And remember to keep your sharing ratio at 0.25% or higher so as to not get banned.  It's a much faster download almost always!  Now, back to the original blog post.

I always like to keep a record of where I got a show or recording from.  But in this case, I cannot find this one listed anywhere.  It doesn't appear to have come from Dime and I know it didn't come from R-O.  It did have a text file which I'll use as the info file for anyone who wants to preview it here on Dime before downloading.  I'm still adding my own info file, but the preview info file is the original and it may help someone decide whether or not they have this already.  Chances are if you have a download of four sources for the 1970-03-12 Dusseldorf show, then you have this :-)

These aren't the best recordings and I have to wonder if most of these are just samples of material that hasn't been shared in full?  I don't see 3 people just recording a few Led Zeppelin songs in 1970 and not recording as much of the show as possible.  I know very little about this specific show other than some tidbits of information I've gathered from researching the date and show.  But I do not see this specific upload being reviewed anywhere and I'm 99% sure it isn't from a boot label either.

Just to reiterate; THIS IS NOT A FOUR SOURCES MIX...IT IS FOUR SEPARATE SOURCES IN ONE DOWNLOAD FOR THE 1970-03-12 DUSSELDORF CONCERT.

I hope you enjoy the four sources for this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-04-26 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent sounding show and performance by Led Zeppelin in their beginning year.  I compared a few boot label versions as well as some non labeled, low generation transfers of this show today.  And while they all sounded great, I do think this Black Swan label copy sounded very clean and good for the labeled versions I was choosing from.

This show has something to it that may be a first also.  I'll have to research it, but this may be one of the very first times "Whole Lotta Love" was played live?  I can't recall hearing it in any other San Francisco 1969 shows prior to this one.  I'll double check though.

It's interesting to see "As Long As I Have You" so late in the set.  This one was usually an early number within the first three to four songs at most.  But not always.  And speaking of "Whole Lotta Love" being a rarity in the show a little while ago, the song is not even listed on the Black Swan label's artwork.  It definitely is on the second CD and is the last track.  And it definitely was played in this April 26th show too and it is not an added track from some other show used as a space filler like labels sometimes add either.

I really love the sound of Smokestack Lightning.  There may be better sounding versions of this show out there.  The KRW_Co 1st generation transfer with no EQ work is a very, very nice and clean transfer and may be my favorite.  And the dadgad 1st generation transfer (not the 1st generation transfer remaster) is a close second to my ears.  But Black Swan so far takes the cake on the label versions I've listened to today.  And I do think it is a show any Zeppelin fan will like.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Bad Company: 1976-04-13 Providence, RI (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

This is one of the superb sounding Dan Lampinski master recordings that has surfaced in recent years.  Dan recorded a lot of Boston, Providence, and other area concerts growing up and as he went to college.  His shows have surfaced in recent years as he shared them unaware of the trading people do with their shows like his.  He wasn't hoarding, he just wasn't trading either.

I left the files intact and everything "as is" in this upload because, even though they may not make sense reading the file names, the songs are embedded with the metadata that has the titles and any other information added.  I'm also leaving in the "Dab Lampinski introduction package" (what I call it) in the upload.  Dan took the time to make an introduction package, pdf documents of shows he recorded, and a lot of other things when he started sharing his shows.  And it is interesting stuff to read from what sounds like a really nice and cool guy too.

This recording is really an excellent and even superb capture of the show.  But to be honest, Bad Company doesn't seem to be playing very well to me.  They seem really lazy and almost like they really don't want to be there putting the show on.  It sounds quiet boring in fact without much
to catch my attention musically.  In most cases, I'd rather hear a live show than the same old song over and over on the radio for decades.  But in this case, the radio songs sound a lot better to me than this live show at least in Providence.  And what a shame when you have such a great recording of a classic rock band Led Zeppelin signed to their own Swan Song label.

I listened to this show yesterday as I was doing a few things around the house.  From beginning to end, I let it play.  And Bad Company did seem to play a little better after they left the stage and returned for the encore.  I'll leave that one to your imagination because I do not know why?

I'm just giving an honest opinion of what I think here.  You may or may not agree.  But since it's a free show, you have noting to lose but a little time downloading it.  I'd be curious to see what others think about this performance too.

I hope you enjoy this concert...

I haven't watched this DVD in so long I cannot remember a lot about it.  I'm going to put it in the Blu-Ray player and let it play as I get prepared for some company coming by in a little while.  If I see or hear anything noteworthy, I'll update this web posting and let you know.  But from everything I can see and from what I do recall from the past; this is a great recording of a great Queen show!

I decided to watch this DVD as I was uploading it just now.  And all I have to say is WOWOW!  OK, that's the name of the Japanese TV program airing the concert too.  But this is a great quality show and DVD.

This concert, from Christmas Eve 1975, is a high energy, rock and roll show.  I turned up my subwoofer and the input to it 2 db since the bass is OK but needs some amplification to be much better.  While I could do without Freddie Mercury dancing in silk shorts to the final encore medley songs like "Jailhouse Rock"; I have to admit Brian May (guitar) and John Deacon (bass)
really get down and rock.  This is a great show and it is a really good view into what made Queen one of the most popular rock 'n' roll bands of yesteryear (and still today)!

I hope you enjoy this time capsule from 1975 ...

Queen: 1974-03-31 London, England (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM 2nd Gen Reel_96/24 & 44/16 Copies_1 CD)

I have a few versions of this show but this one and one other are my favorites.  The other is a 1st generation transfer from the master multitrack reel and I may upload it too tonight (actually becoming morning now).  I thought this version being uploaded came from the same source reel earlier, but now I'm not so sure?  It is a 2nd generation copy from a master reel too but has more tracks than the multitrack version does.

I'm uploading the second generation 96 kHz/24 bit version as well as the CD standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit version I down sampled too for anyone just wanting the CD standard, ready to burn-to-disc version.  There will be links for both versions below.

As I mentioned, this copy has a few extra tracks the mutitrack version doesn't have.  And the sound is incredible too even though it is not quiet as sharp as the multitrack version's sound.  Still, I may prefer this version a little more because of the bass end being heard better and the overall mix in the recording.  I definitely like the fact it is more complete also!

This is a superb recording of a Queen show from the days when they were just starting out.  I believe they started in 1973 using the name Queen for the band.  But there are not a lot of great sounding recordings from that era of their history.  There are a few recordings out there but they are not very good sounding as far as the audio quality goes.

I thought I had this show on DVD too.  But it turns out being the 1974-11-20 performance Queen did at the same venue in England that I have.  After I finish uploading the 1974-03-31 material I may upload some early 1970's Queen concert DVD's I have that are pro shot.  The quality looks excellent.  I haven't watched the DVD's in five years or more.  But I'll look at the details on the DVD and upload the video of the concert soon if everything checks out good.

My favorite era of Queen music is the 1970's - mid 1980's.  I know a lot of people like the latter years when the band mellowed out a lot and Freddie Mercury was nearing his death.  But I just don't like that era as much myself.
I like the rocking era of Queen when Brian May played guitar solos and the band was energetic.  But that's just my preference.  I have a lot of Queen material, most from the 1970's, and I do have material that covers all years.  I figure it's about time I upload a little of it now!

After that last paragraph I got to looking around for a few Queen early years pro shot DVD's and I found some.  As I get some things done around my house today, I may get these DVD's uploading.  I may wait until I can individually create a detailed text file for each or I may go ahead and upload the 6 - 9 GB's of files and let you, the downloader, just copy and paste into a text file what you're reading here.  After all, other than a few changes I make, that is what I'm doing anyhow.  We'll see!

I hope you enjoy this concert...

Led Zeppelin: 1979-07-24 Copenhagen, Denmark (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

Here is the master audience I was wanting to try to upload a few days ago (on 7/24).  This is the second night in Copenhagen out of the two nights Zeppelin played in 1979.  Remember, in 1979 they only did four shows and the two Copenhagen shows were the warmup gigs for their two Knebworth Festival shows a few weeks later.

As with he previous 7/23 Copenhagen upload, this is a share by "weedwacker".  So all thanks goes to him!

LINEAGE:

Master > DAT(4) > CD-R(3) > EAC (secure mode/read offsets corrected) > WAV > FLAC 7 > me > TLH > WAV (to check for lossiness*) > Audacity (to name and embed metadata/track titles and info into file adn re-encode) > FLAC 6 > TLH (to create new ffp & md5 files and verify upload is error free) > you

*The TLH CDDA/MPEG test gave results all over the place.  If this claim of being from a lossless master tape had come from more than about a handful of people ("weedwacker" being one of the handful), I'd have my doubts as to whether or not it had ever been converted into a lossy format.  I went over on  a forum where "weekwacker" and the rest of the handful of people are I'm referring to.  I asked them if they could do a spectral analysis (SA) and frequency analysis (FA) and read the results to confirm this has never been in a lossless format.  I don't know how long or even if I'll get a reply back.  But if I do, I'll update the post with the results over here.  Not checking the audio for lossiness would be one of the most rookie mistakes a person could make and I have no doubt this is a lossless recording with TLH giving bad results like it often does.  But I still wanted to make mention of this for those of you who check the "TLH CDDA Test" text results I included in the upload.  More to follow as any updates are gathered!

Here are some notes from "weedwacker" on this recording.  I'm doing a copy and paste of them from his text file:

Recorded from the floor using an Uher tape deck and Sennheiser mics. This is an excellent audience recording. This is very similar sound-wise to Copenhagen Warmups (TDOLZ) with the exception this is a tad warmer and fuller sounding whereas CW is louder volume wise and a tad flatter sounding from it.

As I mentioned yesterday when I posted the 1979-07-23 Copenhagen show, these master copies do sound better.  I like the 1979-07-23 show better for a few reasons.  But this 7/24 recording's sound is an excellent audio quality too.  The two shows were both recorded by the same taper too.  He did a professional job and all thanks really goes to him (or her?) for sharing their shows.

This is another copy with no artwork so I'm adding the LZ.com memorabilia into a folder and including it in the upload.

I'm going to go ahead and get this show uploaded since I have a few things to get done today.  Depending on how my plans for the day go; I may be able to upload a few shows (various artists) today or I may not be able to upload a show for a day or two.  I'll know more  in the next couple of hours.

Enjoy your Saturday and I hope you enjoy the final Copenhagen warmup show too...

Led Zeppelin: 1973-06-02 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_AUD Master/SB 1st Gen_3 CD)

I've always liked the Kezar Stadium show.  I got a request for this concert I just found and I thought I'd upload it today.  This is an excellent recording sourced from an audience recording that has the soundboard songs that have surfaced (CD 3).  And the soundboard is reportedly sourced from Jimmy Page's cassette recording of the soundboard recording.  I have no idea how that can or cannot be proven or verified, but it still sounds good to me.  I'm just learning of this through examining a few of the soundboard recordings source from this same lineage claim.

This is a show I should've uploaded a long time ago.  I'm actually listening to this version I'm sharing for the first time today.  And it is very, very enjoyable.  The audience recording is one you can crank up and jam to.  It's very well mixed instrumentally.  And the soundboard, whether it comes from Jimmy Page's cassette or not, it another excellent 1973 partial soundboard too.  It starts up as "Moby Dick' gets going and really sounds great.  There are some flaws but this is really an excellent recording overall.  And it's a show every Led Zeppelin fan should have and check out for free!

I added the memorabilia and photos from the oifficial LedZeppelin.com site to a folder.  There are about 50 - 60 low resolution images and other memorabilia  from 1973/06/02 Kezar Stadium show that are very cool to look at through.

I hope you enjoy this great night and historic night...
