Led Zeppelin: 1973-07-21 Providence, RI (FLAC_AUD Low Gen_2 CD)

This show was requested recently, and like I've mentioned a time or two on my site here, I'm happy to take requests and share them if I have or can get them.  This is really a great recording of Led Zeppelin's Providence, Rhode Island show in 1973.

To be perfectly honest, I've had a version of this show I got many years ago and listened to a few times.  But it had been a long time ago when I got it and a long time ago since I listened to it too.  But hearing this huge upgrade from my earlier copy, and even comparing it to some more recent copies various boot labels released, this is a huge improvement over those copies.  I'm not sure if it may be a different source or not.  I haven't taken the time to compare them all yet.  This version is reportedly from a low generation copy and that very well may be the reason it sounds so much better?

LINEAGE:

Unknown low generation copy (possibly VHS tape in lineage) > speed corrected > remastered (no noise or hiss reduction in editing) > me > TLH > WAV (for lossiness testing) > Audacity (to embed metadata/track titles and info and re-encode as FLAC) > FLAC 6 > TLH (to test for SBE's, recheck final project was error free, and create and verify md5 & ffp files) > you

Notes by dadgad: Comments: very good audience recording, sound improves after "No Quarter" (different tape/cassette?)

I find it interesting the way CD 2 is arranged.  With songs like "Moby Dick" coming after "Dazed And Confused" and "Stairway to Heaven" as well as "Heartbreaker" coming before "Whole Lotta Love", well, that wasn't the way the band usually played their setlist.  But they obviously changed it up during this July 1973 show.

Since dadgad didn't elaborate on what he did in remastering the tapes he worked with, it's anyone's guess here.  But I'm fairly confident (but guessing) he did EQ this version in his remastering job.  And he did a great job too.

I hope you enjoy this great night and great recording ...

Steve Perry: 2014-05-25 St. Paul. MN (FLAC_AUD Master_Bootradr Remaster_1 CD)

On the same night as the show I recorded and just uploaded of Journey's Dallas performance, Steve Perry made his return to the stage in an Eels concert surprising many.  Most who were surprised were those of us not at the show.  But the lucky people attending the Eels concert, whether they were old enough or not to know who Steve Perry is and was, seemed to enjoy the surprise too.

There are a number of YouTube videos floating around now of that night one week ago today.  But here's something even cooler.  He did it again last night, this time in Washington, DC's Lincoln Theatre.  There is at least one good YouTube 1080i video from that performance I've seen tonight too.  Let's just hope this is leading up to a new Steve Perry release and forthcoming tour to follow.  He still has the pipes and the melody and I am hoping for the the best (a tour)!

This upload I'm making now is of an excellent audience recording of the whole Steve Perry part of the 2014-05-25 show.  However, not knowing or even caring much about the band Eels, I only obtained the Steve Perry part of the show which was the third encore for Eels.  What a treat!  And this sounds so much better than the videos (lossy) floating around on YouTube and similar sites too.  Perry's voice is up front in this very clean master audience recording shared by "captinzander" a few days back.  Thanks goes to them for sharing this recording!

LINEAGE:

NOTE: I'm not really sure what was meant by the headphones use in "captinzander's" lineage?  They'd mentioned having a short in their good microphones and were unable to use them.  But the headphones part was not explained.

The original 48 kHz/16 bit FLAC files were low on volume and had a few pops/clicks in the audio so I fixed that. That may not constitute a remaster, but I call it that anyhow when work is done on a recording.  No EQ work was done nor needed on this excellent, practically superb, audience capture.

I'm adding the 1080i YouTube HD video below as a sample of the show and NOT this audience recording (that sounds much better and is not lossy audio as the video is).  You may have to change the default 360p/480p standard definition setting to 1080i at the bottom of the video to see it in high definition.   If you've already seen it, well good.  If you haven't, even better!

I hope you enjoy this historical night 'captured by (or in) the moment' ...

Journey: 2014-05-25 Dallas, TX (FLAC_Bootradr Master AUD Source 1_96 kHz/24 bit)

Here's my first of two digital audio recording sources I used to record the Journey and The Steve Miller Band shows last Sunday.  The shows were all great and I had a very good time (once again) recording the shows.

The downside to this night's events was my seating.  I'm not complaining at all.  I was there and it was a sold out show.  But unfortunately, I was in the very back rows of the venue and practically out where the people with cheaper lawn tickets were at.  And it was raining.  After moving 4 times between the Tower of Power concert (I didn't record) and The Steve Miller Band concert (I recorded on just one digital recorder), by the time Journey was about to come on I had moved up only one row from my seating and it worked great.  I was very far back, but I was dead center of the stage too.  And the recordings came out great and much better than I expected from where I was located.

NOTE: I created a torrent and posted it on Dime.  If your a Dime member, you'll know what to do.  If not, sign up for a free account and READ THE RULES.  Go to http://www.dimeadozen.org for their home page.  And remember to keep your sharing ratio at 0.25% or higher so as to not get banned.  It's a much faster download almost always!  Now, back to the original blog post.

As my buddy, "Digital_Journey, his wife, and I got to the venue, the rain started coming down.  My friend's wife had elected to just get a  lawn seating ticket for herself because we had really never considered the rain possibility while my friend and I had gotten seating tickets (very early as they went on sale six months earlier too).  After all, this was Journey's first show in the cooler part of any year since 1998 when they started touring and coming to Dallas again.  In all of the past years the shows were between June and August when Texas seldom sees rain and the heat is high.

I went on in, got the checkpoint and ticket scan out of the way, and went to where my friend and I were going to be sitting.  And as fate would have it, it was about two or three rows outside of where the roof covers you!  I moved up as he was out in the lawn area with his wife and some other friends that had shown up.  I had to keep my equipment dry.

I recorded all but the first song on The Steve Miller Band's set under the dryness of the roof (still way, way back).  After the venue started filling up more and more, and after having to move a few times because ticket holders for the seats I was commandeering started showing up, I finally realized I was only going to get one row closer than I already was.  I did my best to get behind someone not too tall so as to not have them blocking the microphone I was using on Source 1's recorder.  And it wound up being a really good location for where I was able to be at.

"Digital_Journey" and his wife had meantime come across a couple leaving because a guy's wife had gotten sick.  They gave their right side of the stage, Section 100, tickets to my friend and his wife.  He came over and told me between the sets for The Steve Miller Band and Journey what had happened and he was going to go ahead and sit with his wife in their new seating.  This enabled him to take some video in 720p from his camera (not a smart phone) and he recorded 4 songs I'm including as bonus material in this upload.  I also used my camera but it was hard having two digital recorders, an external microphone, and a camera bag hanging off of me.  I got a few good photos of Journey but due to their bright light show many didn't come out as I had hoped.  The Steve Miller Band on the other hand, with a dark and starry background most of their show, made for some great shots.  But since my priority was getting the best audio I could, I wasn't as concerned with the photography part knowing "Digital_Journey" was taking pictures.  Unfortunately, his camera wasn't doing too good of a job on photographs (looked great on video though).  However, he still got some good shots too and it was of a part of the stage I couldn't seem to capture (Neal Schon's side).  So between the two cameras, there are some good photos I'm including too.

I'm really happy with the audio I got on both recorders.  I was quiet surprised since I was so far back too.  The one downside to a few songs is the (presumably drunk) guy who was a row or two up and to my left that decided he was Steve Perry/Arnel Pineda on a few songs and he thought so loudly too.  It definitely doesn't ruin the show though.  He sang not only out of key but out of sync too.  He didn't really do it much until nearing the end of the second half of CD 2.  Annoying, yes!  But it's part of live performances recording too.  Plus, a lot of others (the crowd) were singing along in tune as the band played those types of songs so he doesn't sound like he's just there yelling most of the time.  I even tried blocking his vocals a little by using my body and the microphone position.  I probably should've just let it go and did nothing.

My buddy "Tupchurch" created some artwork for the show using my ticket scan and some of the shots I'd taken at the show.  So a huge "Thank you" goes to him for doing this!  I'm including the 96/24 and 44/16 artwork both in each upload (Source 1 & Source 2).  It may be later today or even another day or two before I can finish editing the 44.1 kHz/16 bit CD standard version I made from the 963 kHz/24 bit audio I recorded in and I upload it here.  I figured I'd upload the best audio sample and bit rate version first.  I plan on making a DVD-A of this uploaded material in the future, but that won't be for a while.

I also am interested in doing a matrix recording using both Source 1 and Source 2 audio.  But I've never done this before, and again, it may be a while before that ever happens.  If there is anyone interested in doing this as a project, let me know and I'd be happy to let you do it if you already know how.

Anyhow, that's the story and I hope you enjoy the concert...

STICKY NOTE: Fastest Way To Reach Me

2015-01-02 UPDATE:

The best way to reach me is by the Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog Facebook page.  If there are dead links, you have a request, or just want to say hello or make a comment, the place I'll see it first and fastest is via the Facebook site.

Due to my vision and the problems it causes me, The Facebook site is something I use and will be seeing every day.  But until it picks up I'm not posting the shows here and there anymore.  If you'd be interested in following my BBBB Facebook page to get notifications of new posts, then I could start posting the links on Facebook again so it would make it easier for people who use that social media site.  I have a Twitter account and a few others social media accounts too.  But I really am not using them because it takes a lot of extra time keeping up with all kinds of social media sites.  I'd rather put my time into uploading shows here :-)

The Facebook site for Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog and the best place to reach me is right HERE!

Feel free to leave messages and comments here too.  Please do.  But I do not see them as fast as I do via Facebook just so you know.

***************original; posting in past about reaching me***************

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let those of you nice enough to leave comments know I appreciate it and thank you!  Due to me being legally blind, I do miss a lot of replies at times and don't seem to get to them until months later sometimes.  I apologize for that!

But here's a way to help me see your replies that have any requests or questions faster.  If you are interested in seeing if I can upload (as examples) "Led Zeppelin XXXX-XX-XX...", "Journey XXXX-XX-XX", etc; leave a comment in my most recent post at the top of the HOME PAGE.  I'll definitely notice it much faster and be able to help.

Unfortunately, blogspot isn't always very good in letting me know I have a new reply.  But I'll see one if it is in the most recent post very fast!

I wish there was a way (and maybe there is but I haven't found it yet) to make a sticky note that would stay at the top of the screen at all times.  But since their isn't it appears, I figure adding a "0-xxx..." to this post's label/tag will sort the tag at the top of my labels column (or SHOWS & POSTS").  And that should make it easier for all to see first for anyone who take the time to read this.

I also plan on adding a label/tag for "Helpful Tips, Must Have Software (the free stuff), Ratings (mine anyhow)", and other important topics than can help long-time collectors as much as newbie collectors in this hobby/passion of music collecting.

I love sharing with like-minded people as much as I love finding new shows and material myself.  And remember, there is never a stupid question either!  This is a never ending learning experience for all traders and collectors and I love that about our music collecting.  I'm learning new and better ways of doing things all the time too.  And I still have a lot to learn and I hope I always do.  That's half the fun of the passion we all share in finding the shows we want.

I hope everyone is having a great day and I'll be uploading some more really soon (hopefully today)...

Journey: 1982-05-21 Chicago, IL_AUD_Bootradr Remaster V.3_2 CD)

PREFACE:
I uploaded Version 2 of my remastering two days ago. As I was listening to the CD-R's I burned of the show yesterday, I quickly realized the right channel was louder on the source recording and it needed to be balanced.  I just finished up with balancing the channels and it makes a huge difference in sound.  The last four tracks, where the sound changes on the recording, did not need balancing so they were left alone.  Version 1 of my projects I never uploaded because it didn't sound right to me.  Version 2 sounded right through the PC speakers (and was shared here) but it wasn't.  So this is Version 3 and should be the final rendition I make of the show.

This is a show I've had for many years, lost, got other copies of, and eventually found my copy of it once again.  And with all of the copies, it's one I haven't listened to much because I consider it to be good sounding.  While that may sound strange to you, I classify "good" as a step above "poor".

But yesterday, on the show's 32nd anniversary, I started working on and remastering a lossless copy I got from my friend "Tales" a few months ago.  And the results made for a "great" (one step above "good") sounding show.  In fact, it turned out much better than I'd planned.  And just as a reference, here's my grading scale:

Poor = 1 - 3

Good = 4 - 6
Great = 7 - 8
Excellent = 9 - 10
Superb = 10+

LINEAGE:

As I made note of in the setlist, the audio changes in the last four tracks.  I'm not sure what the reason may be for it?  On the first copy of the show I reworked, I amplified (without clipping) the last four tracks as I was wrapping up that project.  But I then went ahead and did audio amplification on each track that needed it using Audacity and made another copy which is this one I'm uploading.  I can't say for sure if the original source I got had any clipping to begin with, but as I was EQ'ing the show, I brought down the master audio levels 2 db and then did the work I did from that point.  I was attempting to clean up tape hiss as well as maintain the high end of the audio and bring out the vocals and instruments better.  And while I'm not claiming this is the definitive copy of this show, it sounds a lot better than what I started with.

If you've ever had one of the copies of this show circulating over the decades, you know it never had excellent sound to begin with.  But I'm pleased with how this job turned out.  I'm always looking for a known generation or better remastering job of any show I have collected.  So if you have an upgrade, please let me know or post it.  But I'm sure this copy should sound better than any of the recordings of this show I've ever heard have.  And the show is complete too!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

This si a superb+ recording shared on Dime back in 2005 and then re-seeded again today.  This is the band's almost complete show/setlist rehearsals four days before their Pensacola, Florida concerts began.  The recording sounds like a studio recording because (a) it is a soundboard and (b) there is no crowd noise.  This is something you'll definitely want if you're a Rush fan and you do not have it yet!

Rush is a very talented band!  They're true musicians in all aspects of music.  And this rehearsal soundboard is a great sample into how talented the band is.  And this is just their informal rehearsal four days before the concerts began too.

Most bands do a few tracks from all over the sprectrum as they do their sound check.  They'll play a song, stop mid stream, move on to another song, and a lot of times they play songs not even in their setlist or songs they ever made (other artists music).  But here, Rush sticks to their setlist (with a few additional changes, errors, and other goodies).  There is total silence between songs other than an occasional comment heard between some songs as well as during some songs too.  This is what is called an informal recording.  There is no pressure to please an audience or anyone other than themselves and the guy running the soundboard so they can get everything set up right for the live show.

Rush is a group with a sense of humor I've noticed in my years of listening to them.  Both onstage and off stage, the guys have a great sense of humor that is easily spotted at shows and in interviews.  They seem to be just three laid back musicians that are not uptight or egotistical at all.  And with the exceptional talent they have musically as well as some of the best shows of any artists from the past and present days; their laid back and humorous attitude is just like the icing on the cake.  And I respect them for that.

Thanks to "jtm9734" for re-seeding this show earlier today because I'd never heard it nor had it.  I'm burning it to disc as soon as I finish this upload.  And I've been listening to it as I prepare this posting and get everything ready for the upload.  It's a superb+ recording as I started off saying in the first paragraph and I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm sure you'll enjoy this rehearsal show from days before before their first Pensacola show in 1994 on their Counterparts album tour...

Page & Plant: 1995-10-26 New York, NY (FLAC_AUD Source 2 Master_2 CD)

This is a superb recording of the October 26th, 1995 Page & Plant show.  While I'm more a fan of their 1996 ending of their No Quarter world tour through their 1998 world tour, this show sounds great and very Zeppelin like.  I have had this show for a while but have not listened to it all the way through before.  I really like this "Since I've Been Loving You" version too.  I'll have to check it out in its entirety later today.

The sound in this recording is outstanding and it really sounds like a soundboard throughout the show (from what I've listened to).  Robert Plant's vocals are up front as well as Jimmy Page's guitar playing too.  The mix and balance of all instruments and vocals are so good that it makes the show sound like a soundboard.  And it sounds as if the audience noise is not around the taper and very low too.  It's an excellent capture of the show and a very sharp sounding listening experience.

I hope you enjoy the show...
