Led Zeppelin: 1973-05-19 Fort Worth, TX (FLAC_SB 2nd Gen _2 CD)

This is a show requested about two months ago and one I can't believe I haven't uploaded here before.  This is the Winston Remasters copy of the Fort Worth 1973-05-19 Led Zeppelin concert and I believe it is the best sounding copy at this point.

As with many of the 1973 Led Zeppelin soundboards, this is not the full show and we only have up through "Stairway to Heaven" from the concert.  The recording is the majority of the show but it is missing the last tracks like "Whole Lotta Love" (and others) that closed out the show.

As with a lot of the Winston Remasters, and as I have mentioned in posts before, this is my favorite copy of the show and it sounds like it has the best mix and work done on it to bring out the concert in an excellent form.

I am leaving this show's lineage listed as Winston Remasters did and that is it is a second generation copy of the show.  However; a note I recently saw claims that Winston Remasters said this project is actually sourced from a third generation cassette.  That would make this recording a fourth generation final project if it is true.  The information I saw is something I have not verified the authenticity of.  So until I see Winston Remasters stating this information is correct, I am leaving it as the original information (in the lineage above) stated by Winston Remasters claims it is.  And either way, it still sounds like the best copy of the show I have heard and it sounds excellent too.

There was a recent fan remaster of this Winston Remasters file set.  However, it didn't sound as good to me and there were issues like audio clipping and sector boundary errors (SBE's) created in the new project.  I'm not knocking the recent remastering project at all.  I'm just stating the facts and saying which remaster I think is the better copy personally.  The person that worked on the 2015 remastering of this Winston Remasters copy has shared a lot of great Led Zeppelin shows this year and I appreciate that.  And as of June (I believe) 2015, they started remastering a lot of the shows they shared.  I appreciate their effort and work but I am still going to honestly state my opinions and observations at all times.  We all have what we think sounds better or worse.  And in no way am I putting their project down.  I've made quite a few "remasters" over the years that  I later learned I had made mistakes on (like clipping audio).  And you may like the 2015 remaster better too?  The high frequencies sound nice in certain songs.  But they also are likely where the EQ work done caused the clipping.  The only reason I even mention this is so that anyone looking at this show can compare and see which version of the show they may have because they are both going by the title Mr. Soundman and stem from Winston Remasters project (one being his project obviously).

I hope you enjoy the show...

Foreigner: 1978-12-01 Philadelphia, PA (FLAC_SB/FM BX_1 CD)

This is an excellent sounding older Foreigner show from 1978 that was an FM broadcasted concert.  I'm uploading it by request for some 1970's Foreigner.  And I'm glad that request came in because I never really had listened to much of the more classic rock sounding Foreigner.  I was use to the common 1970's and 1980's songs played on the radio all of the time of course.  I've had Foreigner 4 on CD since the 1980's with a lot of the older tracks on them.  But songs like "I Need You" I had not heard before and this is a different sounding Foreigner to me that I like better honestly.

According to the information with this show, this was one of the last shows with all of the original members in the lineup.  The last time I saw Foreigner two years ago, there was nobody from the original band in the group because Mick Jones had to take a few shows off for some reason.  My mind is drawing a blank right now, but one of the members of Night Ranger filled in and the show was spectacular.  I recorded the audio and video of the show but I was way back in the venue and the camera was reaching its limits in focusing.  I think I did use Adobe Premiere Pro to make a simple DVD of the show with no menus and just chapters.  They were one of the opening bands for Journey and I was very impressed by the band of foreign Foreigner members!

But getting back on track here and talking about this show, this really is an excellent sounding show and the performance from what I have listened to is an excellent one too.

The songs "Blue Morning, Blue Day" and "Woman Oh Woman" were not originally is this FM recording and came from another (FM recording I assume) source and were added to fill in the gaps in the shorter version of the show that aired.  A little research online indicated some thing the two songs are actually from the FM broadcast of a Washington, DC show the band played in March of 1978.  The songs came from the show according to what I have (which is someone's word I don't know).  Supposedly; the tracks just were not in the original FM broadcast that the rest of the show was recorded from.  Tracks 3 and 4, "Blue Morning, Blue Day" and "Woman Oh Woman", are the two in question as mentioned and they have a slightly lesser quality recording sound.  They still sound great and it's no big deal but the rest of the show sounds a couple of notches up in quality.  I'd rather have the two songs, if they are from the show, not sounding as good in the file set to make it complete anyhow.

This reminds me of something I wanted to mention.  And your CD-R media and burner and software will be what makes a difference whether this is a 1 CD or 2 CD show for you.  The time, as listed above under the details area, is right at the 80 minute mark for CD-R's.  There's a 30 second difference and all CD-R's, like computer drives and other storage devices, need a certain amount of space to format the device or disc storing the data.  The 30 seconds may make you need to burn this on two discs or it may not.  It's all up to your equipment you write to disc with and the media you're storing it on.  And it varies from brand to brand.  Some people may want to use their software's overburn feature since it's seconds we're talking about if it has that capability.

What I like in this early version of Foreigner is the guitar and the whole classic rock sound.  Ballads can be great, but I really like the material here that is much more rock and roll sounding in my opinion.  The song I mentioned at the beginning, "I Need You", has a great, long solo and the song just has that 1970's era sound and feel to it.  It really makes me want to find some more 1970's Foreigner recordings of live shows.

I've found a few (four or five) 1977 to 1978 Foreigner SB, FM BX, and similar concerts over the last few days and I'll upload some more eventually.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-08-08 San Bernardino, CA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

It was 46 years ago tonight when this show was played in San Bernardino, California by the mighty, still new Led Zeppelin.

This is a really great recording if you like Jimmy Page's guitar playing too. This recording really showcases Page's guitar as the taper obviously was in front of his amp.  This is a recording of a  whole lotta Jimmy Page.  I'm not 100% sure Robert Plant's microphone was turned on/up in "Train Kept A Rollin'" because it does seem to increase in volume once the song is over.  And in quieter songs or moments in the show, it is much easier to hear him and the rest of the band.  But either way, on/off or up/down, nothing covers Page's guitar jamming in this show.  Nothing!

(1) 1969-08-08 San Bernardino, CA (AUD/Rubber Dubber)

I personally love this recording because it is loud and raw sounding Led Zeppelin guitar blasting through the speakers.  And Rubber Dubber (the label) did a good job of not clipping the audio even though you might thing they had by how loud the guitar sounds.  But the waveform looks really nice and the show is a rough and tough performance by the guys.

I've got some other copies of this recording too.  One is a master recording and one is a first generation recording.  Pretty much all others relate to those two recordings and are remasters of it.  I do have one CD-R I traded for on this show many moons ago too, but I don't recall it sounding as good as any of these copies and I think it was from a higher generation tape.

Being in a time sensitive rush here to get this uploaded on its anniversary, I'm going with the Rubber Dubber label copy I had started to upload last year or the year before but never did.  I think it sounds great-to-excellent myself.  To an audiophile only interested in things such as an even balance between instruments, soundboards, etc, this might not be what you want?  I like the sound even though it isn't perfect.  But the performance is perfect also!

You really cannot hear Robert Plant singing in many parts of the show because you are hearing Jimmy Page's guitar blaring.  It's a nice change from most recordings.  I have a feeling the taper never heard the same after this night.

The very beginning of "Dazed And Confused" is not there.  After the really cool improvisation track (as Page was likely doing something with his guitar and the band was playing a song I never heard before or again), it cuts in already in progress.  What a shame.  But there is still a lot of jamming in the song because it was still prior to the guitar violin bow solo when the recording cuts in on the track in progress.  There may be some other small cuts in the show, but I cannot remember right now and need to post this thing and quit talking about it.

I recommend giving this short show a try if for nothing more than the novelty of it!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-05-17 London, England (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_3 CD)

This show was one in my list of requests to upload.  Actually, the best sounding recording  for this date was more of what the request was for.  Back in May, I uploaded either two or four copies of the show but it was just a grab and upload type of deal because I was busy and did not have the time to compare or even listen to the shows back then.

This Antrabata release, Arabesque & Baroque, is sourced from either the master tapes or a first generation copy according to the artwork.  This was my first copy ever of this show on CD.  I got it in a trade back in the 1990's.  However, this is not an EAC rip of my CD-R copy and it is an EAC rip of the silver discs shared on R-O.  The upload has a lot of artwork within it too which is something I only had a front and back scan of  from my trade decades ago.

I like the sound and mix Atrabata has in their release.  It sounds like a light EQ was done but they did not clip the audio, EQ the show creating distortion, and it has a very nice mix and is evenly balanced.  As I was looking at the master transfer, first generation transfer, and some of the other label version like EVSD's release I was getting a little concerned there might not be a copy with much greater sound than what I'd uploaded a few months ago.  But this wasn't the case thankfully.

EVSD introduced distortion into their bass end and messed up by over equalizing the audio and that lead to some audio clipping too.  The KRW_Co, unaltered first generation copy sounded clean and nice but the speed sounded like it was running a little slow.  The master cassette transfer done by Presence ran at the right speed and it was also unaltered.  The show doesn't have much in the high frequencies range and I had thought about bringing up the high frequencies slightly in the Presence copy and uploading that one.  But when I compared other, sub-par copies the last one I listened to was the first recording of this show I ever had on CD-R's.  And I knew immediately this Antrabata copy was the best copy as far as sound goes and being ready to share without having to do more work on it.  I was very happy to see they did what I was thinking of doing. They brought up the high frequencies slightly and they did it without distorting the bass frequencies and without introducing any audio clipping.

I am not sure how many sources (or different source recordings) there may be for this show.  I'm in a hurry to get it uploaded this morning and just don't have time to research it.  But from  what I can tell, out of the seven or eight copies I have for this date, they all seem to be from the same source recording.  I know due to the guy who yells out something like "Yeah" real loud as one song (I can't remember which at the moment) begins on CD 1.

I'd rate this one as a great to excellent at times recording primarily due to the lack of distortion and good mix.  It is evenly recorded meaning it doesn't have a lot of audio change-ups in its sound and the recording sounds the same all the way through the show for the most part.  It really is a clean recording from low generation (or possibly the master) tapes and there doesn't seem to be a lot of audience chatter heard.  I haven't heard the whole show in a long time, but I've listened to a good portion of it again as I have been comparing and preparing this upload.  The quieter moments are really excellent sounding too.  The piano, keyboard, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums can be evenly heard.

The person requesting the show had told me that this is their favorite version of "No Quarter"that  the band plays on this night.  They eluded to the way Jimmy Page plays his solo in "No Quarter" and they stated there is something very unique in this version of the song that they haven't heard in any other versions played live.  I'm actually listening to "No Quarter" again right now to see if I can catch what they were talking about.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Since I have had a little difficulty getting back into the swing of daily uploads, and since the actual write up is one of the things in preparing each post that takes some time, I'll likely keep uploading the DVD video uploads "as is" in order to save time.  In other words, as long as the file set is already in order and contains a decent information file explaining things, rather than taking the extra time to wait until I do my write up I will just upload the file set the way I have it stored and that way I can let if upload while I'm doing other things preparing the upload or even overnight while I sleep so it will be ready after I get my post made and save some time.

There is something confusing and weird as the DVD starts playing.  It says Page and Plant Osaka and not Nagoya like it the show actually is.  I don't know if this is a Third Eye oversight or just why this occurs.  But it is Nagoya in the video.

The first 3 minutes, 16 seconds played in the video may make you think you're watching a DVD-A because there is no video and the screen just shows the Jimmy Page Zoso emblem with the the Robert Plant leaf under it.  But I guess it is this way because there is no video for the very beginning of the show possibly?  And the video starts off not too professional looking and the taper is filming both the band on stage and then the projection screen and the video is all over the place for a while.  It's shaky and not on target.  It is obviously a handheld video and not a tripod shot video like at least one of the other Page and Plant Tokyo 1996 shows earlier in the tour was.  The corners of the video screen can be seen and the video is a lighter, faded tone when the screen is what is being used to film from.  The whole show from what I can tell is pretty much from the filming of the screen as I look at each song.  And many times the heads are cut off in what is being filmed and the bottom or even top of the projection screen's borders are seen.  It is not a good video job but the audio is superb and it can still be enjoyed.

It's really too bad it had to be done this way and I'm not 100% sure why it was either.  But I'm guessing the taper didn't have a good seat where they could film the stage even though a lot of times you can see the stage in the background as the camerawork moves around filming the video screen.  So who really knows?  It is very difficult to zoom in and film a screen with a handheld camera in case anyone has never tried it!

The real saving grace for the whole project is the superb LPCM (instead of the AC3 192 kbps used on some Third Eye remasters) audio.  It really is superb sounding, mixed very well, and it just sounds really nice.

With all of the Third Eye Page and Plant DVD productions out there that are really excellent ones, he must have had a good reason to have filmed this one the way he did I am thinking.  I'm not complaining at all about it and I appreciate that we have it.  But if the video is what you are getting it for, well, you may be disappointed.  The video is not horrific but it is not great either due to the fact it is video being filmed off of the video screen at the venue.  And by the way, there are times where it looks like the video screen is not being used and the taper is filming directly from the stage.  But it does look like there is someone's head blocking the mid section of the video and it does look like the seating may very well have been the issue and why this is mostly filmed off of a video screen.  It's been a long time since I've watched this video and I noticed this today as I was sampling through the DVD around the song "Tea For One" and in some other areas too.

There aretwo more thing I wanted to mention.  A lot of the Third Eye DVD's have bonus material at the end of the show.  But this one does not.  It is strictly the concert and that is it.  And the second thing I wanted to mention is the download has no artwork in it.  It didn't have it when I got it, and since I uploaded it "as is" to save time, it doesn't contain any artwork.  But I did look online as I was preparing the show and found the artwork which you'll see below.  So if you want any artwork, you'll just need to download it at the bottom of the post of look over on Zepart.com and find it there where I did.

Thanks goes out to "Amduscia" for sharing this DVD set with all of us as he has with so many other shows too!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1978-11-06 Boston, MA (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_1 CD)

This is a great sounding Boston show that was transferred from cassette tape and shared back in 2006 and then reseeded recently on Dime.  This is a little different than the commonly known Party To Boston CD released by a label I'm not sure of.  I think it was released by and unknown label really and of course they messed with the audio and did what labels do.  This copy however is a second generation, non bootleg label cassette copy.

The original artwork for Party To Boston was reworked by the recent reseeder to reflect this second generation recording.  However, the setlist is still tracked for the 2 CD set the artwork was originally made for (the boot label) and it looks like "Television Politician" was just added at the end of CD 2 (remember, this was the 74 minute CD days).  I went ahead and left it in the upload so it's included even though both versions independently will fit on one CD-R nowadays.

And by the way, the bootleg label's copy of the show did not have "Television Politician" on it but this second generation copy does making it a (more) complete show according to the sharing party.  My copy of Party To Boston does have "Television Politician" but maybe it was added at a later date?

A friend on the Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog Facebook Secret Group (Facebook's name for the type of group) had asked if I had any RTZ (Return To Zero), a band composed of by a few Boston members during their hiatus including the late Brad Delp.  I did not have anything from RTZ.  All I could find was an mp3 copy of a RTZ 1991 Cleveland show and y'all know what I think of lossy audio.  So in an attempt to honor a request I could not quiet fill yet, I thought I'd share this recently re-shared Boston show.

All thanks and credit goes to the original taper and "zootype" for this August 2015 reseed on Dime!

The recording is not without its flaws.  But it is the best copy I've heard of this show out of the two I have heard.  The first was the aforementioned Party To Boston bootleg label release.

I'm not sure why "zootype" redid the tracking and put multiple songs together?  But he did and that's the way the show in this download is tracked.  The waveform also shows audio clipping in most songs meaning the audio was a little louder than it should've been in either the recording level, tape transfer, or in the work done on the project.  Some songs have no clipping while others are not bad.  But a few have heavier clipping points  indicated by the waveform looking in Audacity.

While this isn't RTZ, some of the songs (as well as the members) were used in the RTZ show setlists I saw when researching and looking for any shows from RTZ.

If anyone has any RTZ shows, studio outtakes, or just has any information where I might be able to find any lossless RTZ RoIO's, please let me know either in a comment or on the Bootradr's Blind Boot Blog Facebook Community Page (different than the Secret Group one).  All of the information on the Facebook sites can be found under the "Contact" HTML link on the right side of my site if you look and/or scroll up or down.  And thank you if you can help too!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1970-08-31 Milwaukee, WI (FLAC_AUD Master_1 CD)

This show, originally scheduled for 1970-08-27, was postponed a few days due to illnesses within the band.  The original artwork on flyers, tickets, etc show the August 27th date too.

I've had two master tape transfers of this show for a long, long time but have never gotten around to uploading either.  There is the KRW_Co transfer and then the Presence transfer, both being very nice transfers, and I have decided on sharing the Presence transfer this time.  I like the higher notes being more present in that transfer.  Each has their bonus feature over it's competing transfer as usual.  But overall, the Presence transfer seems a little brighter in the high frequencies and is just a tad bit cleaner sounding to me.  Maybe I'll share the KRW_Co transfer on its 45th anniversary at the end of this month?

"I don't care what people say, rock and roll is here to stay.  I don't care if this is true, I'm gonna leave it up to you" is one of my favorite quotes and versions from Robert Plant as he sings these lyrics (ever changing too by the way) during "Dazed and Confused".

The recording is not without flaws of course and there are even a few cuts in songs like "Bron-Yr-Aur".  Maybe they were tape flips or something?  But this is actually an excellent recording overall and especially for a 1970 audience recording.  Personally, I love the sound.  But to other audiophiles this one would be more likely to fit into the "great" category in my ratings possibly?  It has its clean moments with very easy to hear musical instruments as well as Robert Plant's vocals too.  But there are points of distortion also.  They are not where one might expect them either in most cases.  You might think that the beginning of "Dazed and Confused" would be distorted due to the heavier bass from John Paul Jones.  But you'd be wrong because it isn't the case.

Any die hard Zeppelin collector should be able to enjoy this show with no problems I'd guess.  I'm going to burn this copy I'm uploading today to disc since I have never done that yet and give it a listen through the home theater setup as soon as I can get the uploaded started.  But through the Bose PC speakers, I'm loving what I hear!

Oh yeah, and on a side note, Jimi Hendrix was playing his gig in Stockholm, Sweden on this same day day as this Milwaukee Led Zeppelin show was being performed too.  And a video of part of the Hendrix gig was recently shared (and I got it of course) also.  Plus, it was a year ago to the day (1969-08-31) when Led Zeppelin was finishing up their North American gigs but fit in their Lewisville, Texas (Dallas area) show at the Texas International Pop Festival.  What a great day historically in rock and roll (which is here to stay) August 31st was in 1969 and 1970!

I hope you enjoy the show...
