Rush: 1994-03-08 New York, NY (AUD Shot_4 Audio Streams_2 DVD)

This is an excellent Rush show (and capture of it) from 20 years ago tonight at New York's famous Madison Square Garden.  A lot of work has been put into this 2 DVD project by both the videographer and Digital Reproductions to make this 2 DVD set.  There are four audio tracks (streams) on both DVD's to choose from.  They are (1) Dolby Digital original video soundtrack, (2) Dolby Digital alternate audio soundtrack, (3) Dolby Digital matrix soundtrack, and (4) a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack.  So with the use of your remote control's "audio", "sound", or whatever they titled the button for your brand of DVD player and it's remote control; you can switch between these four choices and determine which sound you prefer.  This is what I call "going the extra mile" in DVD production!

I'm not adding anything (no text file, my own checksum, etc) to this upload because it doesn't need anything added.  The text file describes the contents very well.  Not having to fool with organizing the file set contents since they were done right sure is nice.

This show was on Rush's Counterparts tour.  Here is a review from the Digital Rush Experience website by "The Digital Dan", a respected source for Rush reviews, of this 2 DVD set:

The Digital Dan
(Audio - 8.5, Video - 8.5)

This is a great CP tour video taken from a Digital8 clone of the Hi8 master. The picture quality is very nice and much clearer than the unknown gen VHS sources floating around. The first half of the show has some points where the audience gets in the way of the camera, and those sections are filled in with a still shot montage. The second half of the show is obstruction free, but a big section of the drum solo is missing. That soundtrack to the original video is as good as the DAT audience recordings from this show, if not even better. This production includes 4 soundtracks; the original video soundtrack, the DAT audio soundtrack from "The Big Apple Box", a Matrix audio soundtrack, and a 5.1 surround soundtrack. The discs include full motion and interactive menus as well as the artworks. The video was encoded at constant bit rate of 7500kbps and all audio was encoded as Dolby Digital at 448kbps, the maximum rate allowed. This is a show any Rush fan would be delighted to watch, it gets a heavy rotation from me. Special thanks to the NYBG for loaning out his wonderful source. As with all Digital Reproductions releases, this is a free trade or blank trade only production. Please do not buy, sell or distribute for profit. Let's keep the spirit of trading alive and well.

I hope you enjoy this Rush concert being shared on its 20th anniversary...

38 Special: 1988-XX-XX Memphis, TN (FLAC_SB_1 CD)

This si a superb sounding soundboard of a 1988 38 Special show in Memphis.  The sound is incredible.  I never did a lot of listening to 38 Special even though I like the band.  I bought a few officially released CD's through the years and have always enjoyed the overplayed (in their day) songs like "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up In You".  Those songs had very special meaning to me in my life during the 1980's.  And by the way, holding on loosely didn't help the relationship either.  I later found out the girlfriend I had was a runaround and I'm glad it didn't work out because it wouldn't have lasted anyhow and would have just dragged on longer :-)

NOTE: The original FLAC files had issues decoding as well as sector boundary errors on every track.  The message given in Trader's Little Helper was one I'd never run across.  I went ahead and decoded through the errors, aligned the sectors on their boundaries, re-encoded the tracks as FLAC Level 8 , and of course, I checked for lossiness and there was no issue there.  I left the original uploader's EAC log in this upload too.

This is the best sounding 38 Special show I've heard.  The mix from this soundboard is one of the best too.  It's a show I haven't sat back and listened to yet, but I've sampled each track.  And after fixing the errors in the original file set, this one is ready to go.

I hope you enjoy this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-03-06 Dublin, Ireland (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here's a good-to-great recording of the show from 43 years ago tonight that Led Zeppelin put on in Dublin, Ireland.  This was the second and last night on the Ireland part of their touring.  And I'd have to look back at the dates in history, but I imagine the English (Led Zeppelin) and Irish people weren't getting along very well during this time-frame either.  But they all seemed to love Led Zeppelin!

One thing I find really cool is that Led Zeppelin is playing "Black Dog", "Rock And Roll", "Going To California", and "Stairway to Heaven" in these early March shows.  What's cool about that you ask?  The album these songs are one, Led Zeppelin (nicknamed Led Zeppelin IV and Untitled by fans, was not released until November 8th, 1971.  They'd been in the studio making the album between December 1970 and March 1971 and these Irish nights they started their touring on were the first nights people were hearing the songs live.  Robert Plant messes up the lyrics to "Stairway To Heaven" because it's new to him too I guess.  This night, and the previous night in Belfast I uploaded yesterday, are historic nights for the first attempts live at playing the songs on an album that wasn't to be released until eight months later.  And the band played them with a fire burning as they had a crowd who had never heard them either.  That's pretty cool and historic to this Led Zeppelin fan anyhow!

I was going to upload the 2nd generation (from the master tape) copy that had no EQ work or altering done.  I usually like the unaltered version the best because I can do my own work on them and save a copy of it if I want too.  But EVSD did a good job I think on this show.  The instruments and vocals are more clear and it sounds good.

Black Velvet is actually a 4 CD box set that includes the previous night's show in Belfast (CD's 1 & 2) and this night's Dublin show (CD's 3 & 4).  The vast amount of artwork for the whole box set is includes, but it is for both nights too.

The only real issue with this recording is the taper's noisy mouth in parts of the show.  Not only does he think he can sing like Plant, he thinks he can sound like Page's guitar too :-)  You'll notice this at the beginning of "Since I've Been Loving you" especially.  But thankfully, it's only periodically they chime in.

I hope you enjoy the concert!  Until next time...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-03-05 Belfast, Ireland (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

I may need to rename this site "Today In Music History" :-)  Anyhow, here's a great recording of Led Zeppelin's concert from 43 years ago today.  I've got five different versions of this date to choose from and I'm going with the MultiCam Projects 2013 remastered version.  While MCP used a lot of filters to clean the shows audio, and that can be good or bad for the recording's sound, I think it was good in this case.  This version has a good, cleaned up mix that allows the instruments and vocals to be up front and very clean sounding throughout the show while removing the tape hiss.  And I like it.

Be sure to read the information below the download link for some important information too!

Be super careful when you get to the end of "Stairway to Heaven" and/or the beginning of "Going to California" on CD 1.  There is a very high pitch whine/squeal in the audio for a short period of time.  It could seriously blow some speakers if you aren't careful (not to mention your eardrums).  I have no clue what it is, but it is on all of the sources except one that cuts those parts out of the show.  You'll know as it's approaching because "Stairway to Heaven" gets much, much cleaner sounding (like another source or even a soundboard almost).

Today is also the 39th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's Dallas 1975 show if you're interested.  It's a great soundboard and you can find it here on my site too.  It's also the 7th anniversary of Journey playing the Royal Centre in Nottinghsm, United Kingdom today.  But since I only have an mp3 of that show and hope to one day find a lossles version, I'm holding off on uploading that one.

I hope you enjoy the concert!  Until next time...

Feist: 2004-03-03 France (mp3 @ VBR_SB/FM_1 CD)

Everyone should know by now how much I hate mp3 or other lossy codec recordings.  But there are times when that is all you have.  And this is one of those cases.  I'd love to find this show in a lossless format.  So, if you have this concert in a lossless form and don't mind sharing it, please leave a comment and let me know.

This Feist performance was 10 years ago today.  It was recorded live and aired on French FM radio stations and it is called "The Black Sessions".  This is a French program or radio type of deal and I know very little about it.  There are many, many other artists that also did their "The Black Sessions" recordings too.

Only a very limited number of CD's of these "The Black Sessions" recordings are made each time.  Like with many bootleg label releases, except fewer copies are made, they only produce less than 250 to 500 copies of these sessions.  Most of those go out to radio stations to play too.

I like she songs in this early stage of Feist's career as "Feist".  She's been in a few bands starting out as a bass player with hardly any vocal other than backup singing on a few songs (what a waste of talent).  Some of the songs in this session, as session that was done prior to the release of her Let It Die debut album as Feist, are from her days in a band named Broken Social Scene.  Broken Social Scene, still around today, periodically has various artists join and leave.  They aren't leaving because they're unhappy as far as I can tell.  Primarily, and from my understanding, Broken Social Scene is made up of artists that have music careers but join up to make projects.  Feist has joined up with them a few times after starting her own career and plays a show (or song) or two with them.  In fact, and according to her Facebook page, she'll be playing with them again on a Canadian concert event coming up soon.  I hope some people get some good recordings of that show.  But getting back to the point of this paragraph, a few songs in this set are Briken Social Scene songs she plays (with her band of course) and some are songs from her upcoming Let It Die release that followed that year.

I believe Feist is the most talented and awesome female artist of modern music (being between around 2000 through today).  The songs have excellent messages and the music is very well structured with a lot of individual instruments being used by her and other band members she had in 2004.  Her voice is like an angel's voice to me and her way of using it can be humorous, sad, sexy, and very well timed with the music she's singing to.  I love her guitar playing and I believe in this French FM radio broadcast she is likely using her acoustic Martin guitar that has a range and sound that is as intelligent as her own voice is.

Feist's music is something I'm glad I found about 8 years ago.  And if I can ever upgrade the mp3 versions I have to lossless versions that exist of her earlier shows like this one, I'll be uploading a lot more Feist because I love her style, content, playing, and voice.

I hope you enjoy this squashed down mp3 version of this show...

Journey: 1983-03-02 Tokyo, Japan (DVD_Pro Shot_LPCM)

It was 31 years ago tonight Journey wrapped up their Japan leg of their Frontiers tour and this Japanese TV broadcast was made on that night.  This is the best version, both in video quality and audio quality, I've seen and heard in all of the years of collecting this show (many years).  With LPCM audio, this show sounds great.  It's not the complete concert.  I have a number of soundboard and FM broadcast versions of the complete show's audio too and one in specific is superb.  I'll upload it here one day in the future.

There are a number of titles and versions for this show as well as a few DVD artwork creations.  I'm using the "Live In Japan 1983" artwork I got in a copy of this show I got at the Austin Record Convention back in 2012.  The DVD was not as good in video or audio quality though.  But since I was able to scan the artwork at 600 dpi, it beats using the other artwork found in most versions of this show that are lower quality and resolution.  I'll add the other artwork to the EXTRAS folder on the DVD just in case anyone may want to use one of those.  All versions play the same program, the same songs, and the artwork should work from any of the three DVD covers I'm adding.

I hope you enjoy this 31 year old tonight show too...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-08-07 Montreux, Switzerland (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of an excellent show Led Zeppelin played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1971.  I've been meaning to upload a version of it for some time but have not done so until today.

I've been trying to decide which of the two best versions I like to upload today and I decided to go with the Multicam Projects 2013 remaster instead of the Eddie Edwards shared group project version that Multicam Projects 2013 used to do their remastering of.  Both are excellent recordings and mixes of the same source.  But the version I'm uploading has less hiss and a deeper sounding, more clean bass in it I believe.

Both of the two best versions I mentioned above have their pluses and minuses when comparing them to each other.  I like the highs better on the Eddie Edwards version, but I like the bass and lack of tape hiss on the MCP 2013 version better too as I mentioned.  I may upload both version so you can choose which you prefer (or both) to download.  With either identical source version you get the exact same material but with different sounds.  I really like how the band chose "Weekend" for the final song.

I hope you enjoy the concert!  Until next time...
