Sears, Schon, Errico (with Rolie): 1973-01-01 Honolulu, HI (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_1 CD)

Here is a very rare (I didn't even know about it myself until two days ago) and historic show from Journey's Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie during their transition year between Santana and the formation of Journey.  This is an excellent audience recording and I left the whole show intact just as I got it from Dime.  It doesn't have track names, but it has the file fingerprint file, technical notes on transfer, no SBE's, and it has basic artwork too!  It's also in nicely separated stereo too. I added the md5 checksum file since it did not have one of those.  Thanks to "alien156" for sharing this on Dime!

There is some light master cassette crackling on tracks 4 - 6, but it isn't the type that ruins a recording or show.  I got three tracks from this show a few days ago in another great Journey recording.  They were added on as bonus tracks to that recording.  But this is the full show and it's from a very low (1st generation) copy of the master source.

While Gregg Rolie, Santana and Journey keyboardist and vocalist, was not a member of this band, he made a guest appearance for this show.  Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie were friends and Rolie is how Schon was introduced to Santana in 1969 and became a member at the age of 15.  Rolie and Schnon had left Santana in 1972 with Herbbie Herbert (the Santana manager and "to be" Journey manager).  And during the year in between leaving Santana and getting Journey started, Neal Schon was in this short-lived band.  You can hear the beginnings of the fusion-rock, first few Journey (pre-Steve Perry I might add) sounds Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie (founding members of Journey) were moving towards.  There is very little singing in this show and it's mostly just rock 'n' roll playing without the singing.  It's unclear how many tracks Gregg Rolie played on in this show, but he definitely is on a few of them if not all of them.

If you're a Journey fan, you'll want to check this one out...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-09-04 Toronto, Ontario, Canada (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_2 CD)

Here is the show I accidentally uploaded as "1970-09-04" last week and then realized what I'd done later in the day.  I was a year off when I uploaded the Inglewood 1970-09-04 show (it was this 1971-09-04 show)!  Anyhow, since I've already got this one uploaded now, I might as well share it too as I correct the 1970-09-04 show's entry with the right links.  This is a great sounding show and I know any Led Zeppelin fan should enjoy it!

I haven't changed anything since this upload already has the md5 checksum file and the ffp file too.

I have so many versions of this show that vary from partial soundboard versions to more complete soundboard version and audience versions as well as soundboard and audience versions.  I've even got an LP version :-)  I'll upload some of the soundboard versions (one in specific) at a later date.  But this audience version is great and it runs at the correct speed too.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1970-09-04 Inglewood, CA (FLAC_2nd Gen AUD_Source 5_2 CD)

This is an almost soundboard sounding, excellent copy of the 5th source known in existence (out of 6 sources I believe) recording of Led Zeppelin's show in Inglewood, CA from this night in 1970.  This is by far the best copy I've heard so far.  The sound is very well balanced and the band is on fire this night.  And there are a few rarities in the songs (the medley parts) they played on this September night just over 43 years ago too.  I highly recommend this one!

I got this show from the R-O server about a week ago and I'm leaving it as is.  The tracks aren't named and I did not name them.  I did create a checksum file and a file fingerprint file since the original file set didn't have either and I checked for any lossiness in the audio and there was none.  But other than the two files I created and checking the audio, I'm not changing a thing in this upload.  This enables me to upload this show faster than going through my usual routines (and spending the time) doing all of this stuff myself like I usually do.

I highly recommend checking this show out because it is very, very good...

Sara Bareilles: 2013-09-21 Grand Prairie, TX (FLAC_Bootradr Master Source 1_1 CD)

Everyone who knows me knows I'm a classic rock 'n' roll kind of guy.  But we all have our guilty pleasures, and Sara Bareilles' voice and many of her songs are one of my guilty pleasures.  She has an incredible voice, is hotter than an iron, and she and her band put on excellent live shows.  Her live performances are much better than her official studio releases in my opinion (and her studio releases are great too!).  And last night's show was no exception.

The only downside to last night's show was it was the final show this tour before she starts her headlining tour.  In other words, her show didn't run as long as the rest of the shows this year will because there were a total of 5 acts playing and Sara Bareilles and New Republic were the main acts.  She was the second from last act and the show ran approximately one hour.  But it was great and I got a great recording too!

I had an excellent seat on the 5th row, stage right in front of the stacks.  The venue was packed too but this great seating weeds out 90% of crowd noise even in between the songs.

As many of you might know, I am legally blind.  And since I am, I use this to my advantage when it comes to concert going.  I called up Verizon Theatre before going to the show and asked them if I could come early and get assistance in finding my seat.  There were very supportive and very kind people working last night, and while I don't know for sure, asking for this help may have helped me get the recording I made as well as not shut down in picture taking like the lady to my left had to.  I had a digital recorder hanging around my neck, another digital recorder with an external microphone (this source) and I was holding the microphone, a camera bag, and a very nice Cannon camera I was shooting photos and HD video with.  I was seated at the very end of my 5th row seat with a small walkway to my right just wide enough for security to walk up and down and a set of railings for them to hold on to.  Just shortly into the show, I was approached by a security guard and I thought he was saying I couldn't use it (the camera).  I really didn't hear him but was attempting to ignore him too.  But he got my attention and told the lady to my left she could not use her camera (about as nice as mine).  He told me "your camera is OK :-)  I'm thinking "what"?  Just near the end of the song "Gravity", either the same employee of another one came up and said "Hey"!  Again, I thought I was getting told to shut down.  I tried explaining I'd already been told I could use the camera and the guy said "No, not you, get her" (or something like that).  You can hear part of the short conversation in the quiet ending of "Gravity".  I have no idea if this guy knew of my being legally blind and was just being cool or even why he didn't say anything about the audio recorders I had too.  But he didn't!  I was between him and the lady and her friends he (or they) was (or were) telling to put their camera away and stop using it.  It's my opinion it probably was the same guy and he was just being cool knowing that even though I could've thrown a feather and hit the artist, I couldn't see very well and he allowed me to do what I was doing.  But I really do not know?  All I know is that every venue employee I dealt with from the time I got there early until I walked out the door leaving was extremely nice and helpful.  And I want to thank them for that here!

So, that was my night last night and it was a great one.  The show was great, the sound I captured was great, and I had a great night all of the way around!

I hope you can enjoy my guilty pleasure as much as I did last night...

Here's a little background on the night's events.  My buddy John and his girlfriend Deena asked me if I wanted to go see the Tesla the show with them a few days earlier.  Of course, I said yes.  We bought the general admission tickets at the venue window (and the show sold out right afterwards I later learned) and had to wait outside because the doors were opening later than they were suppose to.  I brought my Zoom H4n digital audio recorder (source 1) and my Zoom H2 digital audio recorder (source 2) because I always believe in having at least one backup.  And it's a good thing I did this as I'll explain soon.  Looking back now, I wish I'd brought a camera and a video camera but I didn't because I thought I'd be standing on the floor being bumped around.

After getting inside of the venue, I separated from my friends who were going to the general admission floor level because I knew the House of Blues was cool about aiding disabled people.  And being legally blind, I talked to the guy at the door of the lower balcony seating area and he said he could let me an one other friend in for the great seats but not all of us since the show was sold out.  I knew my two friends wanted to be together through the show so I went on in myself.  I managed to maneuver around a small barrier and get dead center on the second row of the lower balcony.  I was happy with my seating because the House of Blues' lower balcony goes out over the floor and I was no more than 30 feet (a "guesstimate") from the stage.  My only hope was that whoever sat in front of my wouldn't be screaming because that would be picked up on my microphones.

Soon afterward, and before the show, the people who had the tickets to my seat arrived and I moved down to the only other available seat on the second row.  And sure enough, that person with a ticket to that seat arrived too.  There was one seat on the front row I'd avoided because I thought it'd make me stand out and be noticed as I was recording.  But at this point, I moved up a row to the front row, dead center seat where I had a much better seat because nobody could be in front of me to mess up the audio no matter how much they hooted and hollered.  Even with my vision, I could see a lot of details on stage.  And the rest is recorded history!

I had the Zoom H2 hanging around my neck and on my chest and the Zoom H4n with a Sony ECM-917 microphone I hid in my fanny pack after getting the sound levels right and I just held the directional microphone (set to 120° in this case because I was so close and didn't have to worry as much about crowd noise being on the front row).  About 2 minutes before the show ended, my Zoom H2 dropped from the way I had it mounted on the strap around my neck and hit the floor.  I thought it had gone over the railing and possibly hit someone in the head.  But thank God, it was on the concrete floor but the 8 GB SD card had ejected.  So, source 2, being recorded in 96 kHz/24 bit audio, became an incomplete recording.  The higher bitrate setting did help me to capture the first 2 GB of the show  because the recorder creates a new track every 2 GB as it records to the SD card.  But the second track that had started was ruined as the SD card ejected out from the fall as it was recording that 2 GB chunk/track.  Thankfully, I had my Zoom H4n and Sony ECM-917 still going and it captured the whole show.  I believe the H2's audio may have sounded better as I reviewed it, but the H4n's audio is great too and it is the 100% complete show.

I normally do not EQ or do any sound editing on shows I upload (except rare cases where it's a must) because I know I like to get them raw and have an unaltered copy.  I can always make my own changes to shows I get from others or record myself if I'm working off of the master, unedited source.  And that's what I did on this show I'm uploading.  I left it "as is" and unaltered.  All I diod was track, name, check for SBE's (none found), and create the upload of the show.

I hope you enjoy if as much as I did...

Feist: 2004-11-11 Berlin, Germany (FLAC_Master FM BX Digital Source_1 CD)

This is an excellent copy of a 2004 Berlin Feist show in it's lossless format.  This copy has not been circulated (even though the show was broadcast and there are other copies out there) and came from a person who wishes to remain anonymous.  They transferred it when it aired via a cable network and an FM broadcast digitally connected to their PC's sound card.  I've been looking for a lossless copy of this show for some time now.  I truly appreciate this recently shared, digitally transferred copy they shared with me and then said I could share with you.  The friend sharing their recording also noted that they have never shared this with anyone else except a few family members for personal listening (it's not out there in trading circles).  I think the quality of this version is  excellent.

I hope this recording will revive any older Feist torrents (reseeds on torrent sites) of shows that were shared before I was familiar with torrents.  I am always searching for lossless copies of any Feist show to replace my mp3 copies (all I could find at the time).  The 2008 and earlier shows are where I'm "lacking in lossless" versions of shows primarily.  I've got a few, but I missed out on the majority of the 2004 - 2008 lossless shows that have been shared in the past.  And I'd be very grateful for any reseeds or uploads of any Feist shows from any time period because she is an awesome artist with a lot of talent.

Feist, in my opinion, has one of the best voices I've ever heard.  Her music changes too from show to show.  The song never remains the same and I like that.  It makes each show a non-repetitious, new sounding experience each time.  She makes great studio releases, but her true talent is seen and heard through her live shows.

Thanks to the unnamed friend who shared their recording with me to pass along and share with others who may like the same music (or want to try something new they haven't heard)!

I hope you enjoy this show...

Muse: 2013-03-13 Dallas, TX (FLAC_Bootradr Master AUD Source 1_2 CD) (With Sample At End)

Here's a show I recorded a few months ago and I finally got around to creating an upload/download of it. This is source 1 (Zoom H2) of two sources (Zoom H4n with a Sony ECM-917 microphone is source 2) I recorded the show with. I always take at least two digital recorders so I have a backup if one recording fails or doesn't come out right.

I do not know Muse's music. Nevertheless, if I go to a show I record a show :-)

I recorded the entire show and it sounds excellent. I recorded the show in 96 kHz/24 bit audio but this upload is the CD standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit down sampled version (ready to burn to disc if you want to). The only issue I had (and shouldn't have had) is when the recorder reached the 2 GB file size and then started a new file.  The recorders should still continuously record a show with no breaks as it is suppose to. That didn't happen. There is a very short gap in whichever track (near the end of a song) was being recorded when the 2 GB file size was reached. This has happened a few times in shows I've recorded in the past, but it doesn't happen all of the time. I'm not sure why it happens sometimes, but this night it did.

NOTE: I created a torrent and posted it on Dime, ZOMB, and The Trader's Den.  If your a Dime member, you'll know what to do.  If not, sign up for a free account and READ THE RULES.  Go to http://www.dimeadozen.org for their home page.  And remember to keep your sharing ratio at 0.25% or higher so as to not get banned.  As far as ZOMB and TTD torrent sites go, read their rules too.  Most of these sites have a ratio you need to be aware of to stay in good standing..  It's a much faster download almost always!  Now, back to the original blog post.

Even though I'm not classified as a "Muse fan", I did enjoy the show I took my niece too. She was the 13 year old, huge Muse fanatic. And it was a good show. They had a great stage setup and special effects presentation. And as loud as the crowd was, they're not heard very often due to the band being much louder (and this source's digital recorder microphones).

I took a lot of pictures with my Nikon 4 megapixel camera (yea, it was my old one...got a great, new Cannon camera for the upcoming Heart & Bonham show if I can find a way to sneak it in). I chose 24 random pictures from the many taken and included them in a folder in this upload. So, the photos aren't necessarily "professional", but at the same time, we were close enough for them to be good. I'm hoping someone will use some of the better pictures to create some artwork for this show and share it here.

Ironically, I was sitting just a few rows back from where I'd been approached and almost kicked out of the Def Leppard show three times just a few months earlier. My niece's dad had bought the cheap tickets (which wound up being behind the stage for the most part) and then asked me if I'd take her because he couldn't go. As we got to our cheap seating area, the venue ticket taker said the area was closed off and gave us upgraded tickets to the approximately $300 (what the price was for two tickets on the Def Leppard show the year before) seating and we had great seats! And after practically not being able to film and audio record the Def Leppard show (but I still got it on one recorder in a stealth mode...it's uploaded here too) because security was watching me like a hawk, I didn't have any issues whatsoever at this Muse show and never really saw a security team member at all.

Anyhow, it was a great, fun night and I got an excellent recording (actually two) with no issues or problems.

I'm adding a sample, which sounds horrible to me due to the compressed, lossy mp3 audio.  It's made up of shots taken at the show put to the song "Madness".  I may pull it soon because it doesn't truly represent the FLAC audio's quality.  The show sounds much better than this 79 MB sample allows you to hear.  But I'll give it a chance and may do this on some other Bootradr Master uploads if I can get over the lossy audio and picture quality :-)

I hope you enjoy the show...
