REO Speedwagon: 1980-05-06 Lansing, MI (FLAC_SB/FM_1 CD)

It was 33 years ago today when REO Speedwagon performed this excellent concert in Michigan.  This was a turning point for the band due to the fact they were getting ready to, but still had not, released their famous 1981 LP "Hi Infidelity" yet.  But they obviously had a few of the still unreleased songs ready to play.

One thing unique about this show is REO playing some of their new songs off of their upcoming, soon to be released LP "Hi Infidelity".  This album is what catapulted the band into stardom in 1981.  REO had been doing great in certain areas of the country in previous years.  But 1981's "Hi Infidelity" put them on the charts and made the band famous.  And in this concert, they play a mix of their 1970's songs and a couple of their soon to be chart breaking new songs not even released yet.  You got to love it!

I hope you enjoy this moment, captured by time and audio cassettes, from 33 years ago today...

Pink Floyd: 1977-07-02 New York, NY (FLAC_Master AUD_2 CD)

This specific source for this show is very rare and it is the raw and unprocessed show from the master cassette tape(s).  This excellent show and recording is reportedly one the best Pink Floyd audience recordings to have surfaced over the years.  You really find yourself saying "is this a soundboard recording" throughout the show.  This is an example of what we all strive for when we record shows.

This upload is a digital transfer of the master tape(s) used to record the show and it is the full, complete show.  There are some earlier versions that have surfaced through the years.  But they are not not sourced directly from this master tape transfer, and it sounds as if they may have some parts (small parts) missing too.

I've noticed there are split second gaps (or silence) in between tracks however.  I'm not sure if this master source being used was transferred using DAO (disc-at-once) settings creating the tiny gaps or if there's another reason for them.  I'll do some more research and see what I can find out about this.

Even if you aren't a huge Pink Floyd fan (I like them a lot, but I'm not the hugest of fans myself), this one is worth downloading just to hear how clean, clear, and excellent it is.  My favorite song (the different parts of course) is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and David Gilmour's guitar playing in it. This is the definitive copy of this 1977 show!

Page/Plant: 1996-03-01 Melbourne, Australia (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

This is an excellent sounding show of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's last show on their 1995/95 world tour.  This show, after finishing up the Japan show, was the tour's finale.

Late 1995 through  this show was the better end of the tour where the songs were played much more Zeppelin sounding than they were in the United States.  I was a little disappointed after seeing them together (my first time seeing Page and Plant together) in September of 1995.  I cringed at the way they ruined "No Quarter" especially.  I still had a great time, enjoyed the show, and even got myself a t-shirt from the tour too.  But once Page and Plant hit Japan in February 1996, they'd changed their style of playing and they were playing the songs sounding like Led Zeppelin again.  I guess they figured out as they toured North America that there wasn't as much enthusiasm in the way they'd changed up a number of great songs to sound completely different than the fans were use to and wanted to hear.  Thank God!  When they returned to the United States in 1998, they didn't make the same mistake twice.

Like I mentioned earlier, even though I didn't like the changes the band did on some great songs in 1995, I did enjoy the show.  But the 1998 world tour was even better and the band sounded much more warmed up and like they were feeling groovy.  I kept waiting to hear Plant say "You feel alright".  And "No Quarter", even without John Paul Jones (sadly), was played the way it should have been played in North America in 1995.

This is a great show here and I got it earlier today from Dime.  If you like the band, band members, or the Zeppelin feel; you should enjoy this show I'm sure...

AC/DC: 1978-08-21 Boston, MA (FLAC_SB/FM_1 CD)

This is an excellent recording of Boston's WBCN FM live broadcast of a 1978 AC/DC concert.  The sound is incredible with a clean, heavy bass in it.  There a reportedly other versions out there of this show.  Most likely, they come from people who recorded this show off the FM airwaves when it was broadcast live.  But this recording I'm uploading is suppose to be the best source and copy available.  It's a great recording and a great 1978 live show.

There is an interview too with AC/DC's late singer Bon Scott.  He died, as so many other rock 'n' roll fools do, from a drug or alcohol overdose in 1980.  Needless to say, he probably couldn't have imagined he only had two years left to live when this show and interview were played and aired live for others to listen too.

I was never a big AC/DC fan growing up.  But somewhere in the late 1990's, I did some CD-R trading of shows with a guy in West Texas that had a lot of AC/DC material.  I decided to try out a few of his AC/DC shows in our trade and was really surprised at what I'd been missing out on.  Hearing the same songs on the radio day after day had convinced me AC/DC wasn't bad, but they got old quick.  We can thank the corporate music world for that since they only played the songs they thought we should like!  But after hearing some really good studio outtakes, live shows, etc I got in my end of the trade, I knew this band was better than what the radio stations had shared through the years.

So kick back, crank it up, and enjoy a night from 1978 when rock 'n' roll was still played over the airwaves...

Pink Floyd: 1977-04-30 Houston, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is a very good audience recording of Pink Floyd at a venue I'd never heard of (until recent years) in Houston.  I was just a kid, but I had been living in Houston for about 8 months when this concert took place.  I vaguely remember commercials on the radio for this show too.  I recall Pink Floyd and Queen radio commercials seemed to be on every 5 minutes for concerts they had in 1977.

This show is one of those good recordings where, even though you can hear the occasional conversations going on (by the friends taping it I think), they still got a good recording.  There are some shows where this type of chatter can ruin the recording.  But in this case, it adds to the ambiance of the show and makes you feel like you were there.  The recording has its flaws, but overall, it is a great snapshot in time of what it was like being there in 1977.  The music has a good, full range of sound to it and no distortion to interfere from what I've listened to.  I got this show within the last two years, but for some reason, and until I finish this post, I've never burned it to CD yet.  I can fix that mistake as soon as I'm done here!

I wish I'd remembered to upload this show as planned  on Tuesday.  That would've made it 36 years ago that day.  So instead, it was 36 years, 5 days ago today :-)

I saw Pink Floyd for the first time a decade later (1987) in Houston.  It was a great, extravagant show but was also after Roger Waters had split from the band.  My personal favorite era of Pink Floyd was their 1975 and 1977 touring years.  And some superb recordings have surfaced through the years of many of these shows.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this show from an era of music that would be lost if it weren't for recordings like this one documenting it and keeping it alive today...

Feist: 2007-10-01 Copenhagen, Denmark (FLAC_AUD Master_1 CD)

This is one of the best sounding Feist audience recorded shows out there.  Her shows almost always promote excellent recording conditions.  The crowd becomes so involved with (or "in to") her music that they keep quiet and listen rather than talk through the shows.  The crowds express their enjoyment of Feist's concerts by cheering, but they do it in between songs and not during them in most of the recordings I've heard.  This show is no exception!

Feist, to me, is the best female singer out there.  Everything from her voice to her and the band's presentation and music styles is nothing short of superb.  Her music (not the song always) can change from show to show.  She doesn't play the monotonous, same sounding, and repetitious thing every night.  The setlist may stay the same for a few shows, but Feist and her band keep the songs from stagnating and they introduce new parts, different ways of singing and playing old parts, and a variety of changes that always make each show like its own new, fresh experience.  And I love that!

Ha!  I just realized that the photo (randomly picked) of Feist on her guitar below is reversed.  She's not left handed and this picture has obviously been flipped since it looks like she's playing left handed.

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1979-07-23 & 24 Copenhagen, Denmark (FLAC_AUD_4 CD)

This is an excellent TDOLZ audience recording of the two Copenhagen shows Led Zeppelin performed in 1979.  This was right before the 1979-08-04 and 1979-08-11 Knebworth shows and it was Zeppelin's live warm-ups for these shows.  Hence the CD's title "Copenhagen Warm-ups".

The taper(s) of these two nights in Copenhagen did an excellent job and got excellent results.  My favorite show of the two nights is the first night.  But both nights are excellent.

I recall getting the Silver Rarities silver 2 CD set titled "Melancholy Danish Pageboys" back in the 1990's.  It was of the 1979-07-23 concert.  I still crack up to this day when, during this first night's show, you hear a sneeze (by the taper?) right as "No Quarter" (or No Quater as the Silver Rarities artwork incorrectly spells it) is starting.

This TDOLZ version blows my old Silver Rarities version's sound out of the water.  The TDOLZ version is the best sounding versions of either show that I've ever heard.  You won't be disappointed!

I haven't uploaded too many 1977 through 1980 Led Zeppelin shows yet.  I like the 1968 to 1975 shows the best (but I like it all too) and I guess I've been concentrating more on those.  I'll try to get a few more 1977 and some 1980 concerts up here soon.

Enjoy the show...
