Led Zeppelin: 1969-10-10 Paris, France (FLAC_Pre-FM/SB_1 CD)

PREFACE:
I'm removing this show's link for downloading due to the official release of this show scheduled for next month by Led Zeppelin.  I don't know if it might sound any better than this version, but I look forward to hearing it and finding out!

This is an excellent copy of a Led Zeppelin show originally aired on BBC2 back in November of 1969.  In December of 2007, just prior to the Led Zeppelin O2 Arena reunion show in London, it was aired again.  From all of the different labels and versions of this show I have listened to, this one is the very best.  The quality if excellent!

This is normally a 2 CD set where CD 2 is the same show (not nearly as great sounding as this recording) and contains the commercials and everything aired over the radio when it was broadcast.  But when I got my copy of this 2 CD set, there was just the pre-FM, excellent CD 1 available.  I know I can go out on the web and find the second CD, and one day, I just might do that!

REMOVED LINK ON 2014-05-06 DUE TO THE UPCOMING OFFICIAL RELEASE OF THIS SHOW NEXT MONTH!  I HOPE THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN :-)

One thing cracked me up as I was listening to this show playing in the living room while creating this upload.  It was during "How Many More Times" (always a medley containing many other songs too). As I was listening, I heard Robert Plant at the point where he's singing "...I want that girl, oh my, my my; but she's been with Aynsley Dunbar and that just ain't right".  For those of you that don't know me; I like Journey and I like Led Zeppelin.  Dunbar was the drummer for Journey up through early 1978 when Steve Smith took over.  It was amusing to me to hear Plant mentioning a Journey member a few years before Journey was ever formed.  And yes, I do know that Dunbar was with a lot of bands through the years and was most likely with a band that at least caught Plant's attention (be it good or bad?) enough to mention him in the song.

Anyways, this is a really excellent sounding and performed show of Led Zeppelin about one year after they started as "Led Zeppelin".  This is a small download, a great show, and a must have if you like Led Zeppelin and don't have this one (even if you have other versions of it...it's that much better sounding).

So, I hope you enjoy the show...

This, as with all her shows, is another great performance by Feist and her band.  The length of this show is about 25 minutes longer than when I saw her four months earlier in Dallas.  She performs a few extra songs that I don't think made it into her setlist in other shows (at least not often) during the 2011/2012 Metals Tour.

At one point she calls out a bootlegger filming the show and takes their camera and films the audience before giving it back to the person.  She has always been camera shy (I cannot figure out why) and that has been mentioned by her as well as reviewers in articles.

My reasons for remastering the audio were simply to fit my listening "likes".  The original files sounded great and I just wanted to try and make it a little better.  There is some hiss in the original files that I could not remove without damaging the overall sound in the end, but it is nothing too bad and it doesn't take away from the show either.  I cleaned it up as much as I was able to.

A special thanks goes out to "Millslane" for recording the show and sharing it and to "Pilgerman" for creating the artwork for the 2 CD set.  I like to see projects like this one where like-minded people join together to help each other out!

Enjoy the show...

Journey: 1981-07-31 Tokyo, Japan (Pro Shot DL DVD)

In celebration of a great (and now legitimately released since 2005) Journey concert from 31 years ago today in Houston, here's another never before released concert from Journey just three months and one week earlier than the officially released Houston Summit show.  I'd love to see Journey release this one too!

This upload is of a great remastering job of the Journey 1981 Tokyo concert.  This is a double layer (DL) DVD and not a regular DVD+/-R disc.  Many programs will compress the video and it can be burned to a regular DVD+/-R, but why would anyone want to do that?  It's much better to go out and buy a DL DVD and not compress the files to fit on a standard, regular recordable disc.

This is definitely the best copy of this show I have seen or have in my collection.  And I have seen (and have) a lot of versions over a lot of years :-)  This project, created by a fan, was put out about 3 - 4 years ago but has been very difficult to locate in this lossless format.  A special thanks goes out to Snivlle Remastered Edition for taking the time to build this project and everything that goes along with doing this.  It takes a lot of time and a lot more "getting it right" and this is a very well built and cleaned up end product.  You'll enjoy it if you download it!

Like I mentioned, I've seen this DVD out there before but I was always a little too late to get it.  Thankfully, when I was out of town last week, a friend from Budapest and on a forum we are both on saw it pop up just before the moderators yanked it from the site.  He was able to download it first and uploaded it file by file for me to download and get.  Thanks for grabbing it and sending it Istvan!

As for the "yanking it" on the forum goes, it had nothing to do with it being illegal or anything like that.  Some forums are super strict (which is not as bad as it may sound) about certain things.  The forum it was downloaded from removed it because the video was re-encoded and they do not allow that.  Under most circumstances, I like that policy.  But sometimes, as with this DVD, I wish that wasn't the case because this is the definitive copy of this show that is out there (as far as what has surfaced) and it'd be a shame to miss out on this one.  This is an excellent DVD and is definitely an improvement over the source video/DVD it came from.

So, enjoy the Tokyo 1981 Journey show for yourself and see what you think!  And if you want some more Journey, then put in your officially released and bought copy of the 1981-11-06 Houston show (or go buy it if you don't have it yet :-))...

Led Zeppelin: 1970-03-07 Montreux, Switzerland (FLAC_AUD/SB_EVSD_3 CD)

Here's a copy of the Empress Valley Supreme Disc 3 CD version of Led Zeppelin's performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1970.  There is an EVSD 2 CD version with the same title out there.  It has the soundboard audio parts (that surfaced many years ago) mixed with and/or replacing the audience portion.  In other words, the full audience show is tampered with and the six known soundboard songs are injected into the full audience recording.

I personally like this 3 CD EVSD copy better.  I believe the audience recording is excellent and even better than the soundboard in this show.  Some of the soundboard parts are pretty diminished (like in "We're Gonna Grove") while some of the other soundboard parts are much better.

The good thing about this 3 CD version is that you have the full 2 CD audience recording of the show and then CD 3 has the soundboard portions of the show.  Either way, via a 2 CD or 3 CD version, you get the show!  I just prefer to hear the excellent audience recording all of the way through without the sound changes where the soundboard is injected because the audience recording is so good.  And some of the soundboard songs are incomplete (like "Whole Lotta Love").  Both EVSD versions of Intimidator, the title for this show, are excellent.

I've been listening to the audience recorded, CD 1 and 2, parts of this show as I create this upload and they are really incredible and excellent sounding.  Led Zeppelin put on a stellar performance at this show.  Both Plant and Page (as well as Bonham and JPJ) perform flawlessly and this capture of an early Led Zeppelin show let's you know how they became so popular as they hit the gates running in late 1968.  I love these early shows!

Well, I could run on and keep typing, but what's the use.  This is one of those recordings that really cannot be described in writing.  You just have to hear it (or have been there).

I hope you enjoy the show and "feel alright".  You'll definitely be feeling better after hearing this show...

UPDATED INFORMATION:
Before uploading these files, I did a little more research on this show.  There are a lot of different boot labels and versions of it out there.  There may be more than one source on the audience recorded CDs 1 & 2.  If so, it is just small parts added to make the show more complete.  Obviously; at least a few people recorded it.  But any way you look at it, I think this 3 CD version is the most complete and best sounding version I've listened to.  If I ever find a better version, then I'll upload that one too :-)

Feist: 2011-11-08 Dallas, TX (Bootradr Master AUD_FLAC_2 CD)

Here's my Zoom H4n digital audio recording of the Feist show.  I uploaded the complete 2 DVD video of this show a few month back.  This in NOT an audio rip from the DVD or the video camera files used to create the DVD.  It is from the completely separate source (the Zoom H4n digital audio recorder).

Feist is an artist I have grown to really like over the last 5+ years. She is a super talented artist and I love her voice. Her music, and the way it's performed and played, can (and does) change from show to show. I like that in an artist/group. While Feist's official studio releases are very good, it's her live performances that really show her talent. This full, uncut show is from her latest tour supporting her latest album/CD "Metals" (released October 2011).

If you're interested in the 2 DVD video of the show I recorded, and if you want to grab it from Dime, here's that link (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=407484)  Now, back to the original blog post.

This was one of my most favorite concerts that I have ever attend!

I normally like to upload my shows without EQ'ing them.  But in this case, I needed too.  The audio was good but the Zoom H4n microphones caught a flat, too heavy on bass sometimes, a little low on the highs, and a lot to be desired (by me anyhow) sound on the original wav file.  I spent a lot of time getting the sound right and I love this final, definitive version being uploaded.

One thing I want to mention is this.  No, it wasn't my birthday :-)  I say this because someone in the crowd yelled out "it's my birthday" and I've been asked a few times in private messages if that was me after other collectors watched the 2 DVD video I uploaded earlier this year.  That was not me!  I know better :-)

The crowd was excellent in regards to capturing the audio and video.  It blows me away at how quiet the audience is during the quieter moments of almost every Feist rare recording I have.  Believe me, they're enjoying it and you can hear they are from the cheering between songs.  Feist's voice and the songs are just hypnotizing and people want to hear it.  Try getting this type of crowd and most concerts.  I think I had some support from people behind me at one point saying "sit down".  I think they were looking at my video screen (as I was sitting using the arm rests to stabilize the video) and could see I was having to zoom in more than I wanted to in order to avoid some guys head about 10 rows up.

It was a great night, and I hope you enjoy this audio capture of it.  To coin another great singer's (Steve Perry) words, I was "captured by the moment and I hope it never fades away".  Putting this copy of the show out there makes this possible...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-02-12 New York, NY (FLAC_SB_Godfather_3 CD)

This is by far one of the best sounding Led Zeppelin soundboards to ever surface.  This recording is a perfect, studio quality recording of Led Zeppelin's complete concert at Madison Square Gardens on February 12, 1975.

This show originally surfaced in mid-to-late 2010 and was an excellent sounding performance of the start of their 1975 American tour.  It was incredible sounding.  However, this newer copy, remastered by Godfather Records, is has been studio remastered and is cleaner.  It reportedly was remastered in a studio and is a definite upgrade to the earlier (already outstanding) versions other boot labels released.  This one is as good as it gets sound-wise and couldn't sound any better if Led Zeppelin was to have ever released the concert themselves.

As always, this is not in any way an official release or copyrighted production.  It has never been nor will it probably ever be officially released.  But if it ever is, I'll pull it from my site and go buy a copy of the official release!  It surely wouldn't sound any better, but hey, it would be officially released then.

302. Stairway To Heaven
303. Whole Lotta Love
304. Black Dog
305. Heartbreaker (including "That's Alright Mama")

NOTE: For some reason, I completely forgot to create an md5 checksum file.  No worries though.  It has absolutely no effect on the download. the audio, or the integrity of the files.  It is only added so those who choose to can check the integrity of the files and be sure nothing has been changed and all files are intact.  It's just a checksum file and plays no part in being able to listen to or burn the show to disc.  If I ever need to re-upload the files again, I'll remember to create an md5 file in the next upload.

2013-03-29 UPDATE:  I also named the zipped files using the wrong date of "...750214..." (1975-02-14).  I'll fix all of these non essential errors once I finish uploading the rest of my files.

Hopefully, and in the not too distant future, more of these superb sounding Led Zeppelin shows will  find their way to the surface.  That's how it has been all along and I hope the train keeps on rollin'!  While there are plenty of excellent sounding Led Zeppelin shows already out there, as a collector, I'm always looking for a new one to surface.  And since 2010, a number of these 1975 soundboard shows have been surfacing.

I know you'll enjoy the show...

Today in Music History: October 2nd, XXXX

I was just looking at this video I'm posting earlier today.  It is still unedited and on analog transferred DVD-RWs and the master Mini-DV tapes (for a future digital transfer when I can scrounge up what I need to do it).

Earlier today, as I was looking at one of the videos below, I was thinking "how long ago did I film this show"?  The answer was right in front of my eyes.  Tonight, it is two years ago today...and therefore, we have a today in history posting :-)

Since I've been busy with other things lately and haven't been able to do much uploading, I thought it was time for a "Today in Music History" post to show some activity.  It shouldn't be too long before I can start putting more shows up.

Also, from my boot vaults, and of course today in music history, (1) Led Zeppelin performed at Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan (1972) and (2) Evanescence played their Rock in Rio show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the tour for their new, self titled album "Evanescence" (2011).  And last, but not least, (3) I saw and video taped (and digital audio recorded with two sources) Sara Bareilles two years ago today at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, TX (2010).

Even though I haven't begun to create a DVD project yet with my Sara Bareilles video and audio, I did upload two sets of a compilation of a few songs from the show that I made for my YouTube channel (Bootradr).

When the DVD project of Sara's show is complete, it won't have any of these edits (transitional effects between songs and title's at the bottom of the screen).  I don't believe in cluttering up full length productions like that.  It's bad enough crunching the quality down to make them "web friendly" for viewing :-)

So, I hope you enjoy the previews (7 songs) from a future DVD to come (no telling when).  It's late and I'm going to bed now...
