Steve Perry: 1994-10-22 Minneapolis, MN (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording and an upgrade to earlier copies of this show I have had and heard.  I'm not sure if this is the same source or just a better (and lossless) generation copy.  The original sharing party mentioned the person they had got the show from claimed to have taped it.  But they had no way to confirm nor deny the information either.

The waveform on this show is superb looking and it indicates whoever recorded and worked with this audio knew exactly what they were doing.  There is no clipping either in the waveform.

I'll compare my older copy of this show I've had since the late 1990's later and see if this may be a alternate source
.  I'm putting this copy to disc right now to examine it even closer (or louder and better) with the home theater system.  I know it will sound excellent.  It will be great to hear many of these songs again also because it has been a while since I've jammed out of a 1994 Steve Perry show.

I hope you enjoy the show...

You can hear Page's early Zeppelin coming out in these shows.  He just didn't have John Paul Jones, John Bonham, or Robert Plant to fill in the gaps yet.

It's really interesting thinking what all was going on in the March, and almost into April, concert within The Yardbirds.  Everybody except Jimmy Page was falling out and very soon after the 1968 show being uploaded here the band ended.  According to Wikipedia, The Yardbirds last performance was on 1968-07-07 (or just over three months after the 1968 concert on CD 1).  A few months later, The New Yardbirds (aka Led Zeppelin) were starting out fulfilling Jimmy Page's contractual agreement with The Yardbirds name.  And after that, well, the rest is Led Zeppelin history!

I hope you enjoy the two concerts...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-12-23 London, England (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen_2 CD)

Here is the second night at London's Alexandra Palace in 1972 and it's an excellent recording.  And as you might expect, it was 42 years ago today!

It's interesting how the setlist is the same as the night before as well as the length of this recording is about a minute longer.  I know John Paul Jones' organ solo and "Thank You" are not on the source 2 recording of the 1972-12-22 show, the one I'm comparing this too, so it is incomplete.  However, source 1 from the 1972-12-22 show has those two tracks (but starts late in the show).  It makes me wonder if this 1972-12-23 recording may be incomplete too and missing those tracks?  Maybe the taper ran out of tape?  I really don't know.  Led Zeppelin mixed up their setlists so often and rarely played all of the the same songs in the same order two nights in a row.

LINEAGE:
2nd Gen cassette > CD-R (2) > EAC > FLAC 8 > me > TLH > WAV (to test for lossines) > Audacity (to view waveform, embed  metadata/track titles & info, and then to re-encode) > FLAC 8 > TLH (to check for SBE's and create and verify new ffp & md5 files) > you

NOTE:
While the enclosed TLH CDDA Test results text file I added looks suspicious, there is no doubt this is a lossless copy due to the sources ("KRW_Co") who originally shared this material!  The test results are just another case of TLH giving bad information as it is known to do in this one area of its many excellent features and functions.

There is some audio clipping when looking at the waveform but it isn't anything audible.  I imagine the taper had their record level turned up a little too high but I'm not sure.

This night has a better, more full sound than the previous night's recording played at the same venue.  I haven't researched it to see, but this may be the same taper on both nights and that's why they're also both 2nd generation copies and were both transferred by KRW_Co..

I hope you enjoy the second night in London...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-12-22 London, England (FLAC_AUD Source 2 2nd Gen_2 CD)

Here's the source 2, second generation revision originally shared by "KRW_Co" and edited by "pernod" later.

At first listen, I thought source 1 sounded better.  But as I listened and compared more closely I realized this source 2 recording is actually the better sounding copy (as well as more complete).  The source 1 copy has much better high end frequencies present but has slight/heavy (depending upon copy being listened to) distortion in the low end frequencies.  But while source 1 has the potential for better sound and source 2 is lacking in the high frequency area, there is no distortion and the sound is very nice.  On my grading scale I'd call this one a great-to-excellent recording for 1972.

To me, this is the best sounding copy of this date so far.  There have been some other good ones, like "dadgad's" source 2 and Source 1 mix, but to my ears they sound either too low end or high end frequencies heavy.  People like "dadgad" know more about audio than I may ever learn.  But I still think "pernod's" copy being uploaded here sounds best!

Here are "pernod's" revision notes:
"Removed silent gap and repeat between BYS and TSRTS
Removed overlap between TRS and DAC (transition from Disc 1 to 2)
Removed micro gap during DAC near the track transition with STH
Removed silent gap between WLL and IS at the cut
Speed correction +1.25%

Retracked with CD Wave to incorporate Plant's announcements to the tracks to which they belong.

Revisions were done with EAC's integrated wave editor, CEP, WaveLab and CD Wave. Sector Boundary Errors have been fixed with shn tool.
"

I hope you enjoy the source 2 recording from this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-12-22 London, England (FAC_AUD Source 1 3rd Gen_1 CD)

Here's the ending portion of Led Zeppelin's show from 42 years ago tonight.  Source 1 only contains from "Stairway to Heaven" on for some reason.  I'm not sure if the earlier tape was messed up, the taper got to the show late, or just why the whole show isn't available from source 1.  But it isn't.

I may upload Source 2 in a little bit since it is the 2 CD, almost complete copy of the show.  But it is missing the last two tracks source 1 I'm uploading now has which are John Paul Jones' organ intro into "Thank You" and the song "Thank You" itself.

This is a good recording but not great or excellent sounding one.  However it sounded a lot better than a few other copies I compared it too.  I believe "pernod" did the best transfer and revision to this 1972-11-22 source as well as the source 2 recording also.  The same may apply to the 1972-11-23 (or next night's) concert at the same venue too.  But I'll look into that further as I get to tomorrow's date.  It appears no audio altering (or EQ work) was done from the original information provided, yet it sounds like it has been and is a lot better than other unaltered copies I've compared it too.

I hope you enjoy the source 1 recording from this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1973-07-13 Detroit, MI (FLAC_SB 1st Gen_1 CD)

This is an excellent partial soundboard of Led Zeppelin's 1973-07-13 concert.  We know the whole show likely exists, but it hasn't surfaced as of yet.  We have the audience recording from 1973-07-12 in Detroit too.  But as for this 7/13 date, we just have these last four songs from the show and the final track, "Dancing Days", is incomplete too.  Hopefully, in the near future the whole show will be available.

I'm not sure if what I am uploading is truly the Celebration label's copy or if someone just threw the artwork from that copy in.  There is very little information in the text file, but the lineage as well as the source it came from (R-O), does show this is the 1st generation copy.

This recording is just over an hour long.  And the sound is superb too.  The 1973 tour, the same tour as the officially released DVD "The Song Remains The Same came from, is one of Led Zeppelin's best.  There are a number of soundboard recording from the tour too that are also superb sounding recordings.

This Detroit show was performed just two weeks prior to the filming dates at New York's Madison Square Garden for The Song Remains The Same video too.  It always makes me wonder if any of these soundboards from 1973 have videos that were professionally shot too.  I'm pretty sure no band goes around paying filming companies to just film shows in case they decide to use a different date.  But I do wonder if alternate dates get filmed as a backup when a release is being planned.

By the way, the artwork shows 2 CD's but there is not any two disc (or three disc either) version known to exist yet for this Detroit show.  There is no copy of "Dazed and Confused" or "Stairway to Heaven" from the soundboard circulating (yet at least) as the artwork shows.

I hope you enjoy the current available soundboard recording from this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1973-05-26 Salt Lake City, UT (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

Here is an excellent show with superb sound from Led Zeppelin's 1973-05-26 Salt Lake City, Utah concert.  I've never uploaded any copies of this show yet for some reason.  But I noticed this today as I was listening to this copy and decided to fix that problem!

I was going to originally upload the "DrumJ" master soundboard with the EVSD audience mix copy, but this copy sounds better and I went with it.  The "DrumJ" copy is a mix and not a matrix and contains EVSD's audience copy in spots where there is no soundboard at this time.  For instance, "Whole Lotta Love: is incomplete in this copy being uploaded but is filled in on the other mix and matrix copies using audience sourced patches.  But I can always upload the more complete copies at a later date if anyone is interested in them.

I did my own EQ'ing a few years ago on the "DrumJ" mix copy and it came out sounding superb!  But there was one problem and it was related to the horrible software, Roxio Media Creator 2010 Pro, I used.  It caused split second repeats at the beginning of each track and that is annoying as it gets.  Unfortunately, and at that time, I didn't have a better program to work with.  So that copy is really useless as far as I am concerned.  I may redo this same copy I already did in the future with the better software I have (and much more difficult to use...it figures) sometime this next year?  This is a superb performance by the band and it would be fun to have another go at it with good software.

I really like the job Watch Tower did on this copy.  There is suppose to be a third disc with this set in most cases which contains the monitor mix on a number of the tracks.  I'm not sure why that disc was not included as the bonus disc it was put with this 2 CD set as.  But so far, I've not been able to get that third disc.  Hopefully I will sometime soon and I'll add it with a link to it posted here.

One thing I do not like on this CD set is the (not reliable) TLH MPEG/CDDA test results.  They are all over the place and that always brings into question whether or not the source was ever lossy.  But I do not believe it was because (a) the Watch Tower label puts out good, lossless copies of shows and (b) the source it came from would not likely have ever converted this to a lossy source.  I believe the test results are just a result of the EQ work done on this CD set by Watch Tower to make it sound so good.  That can cause the TLH program to give false results at times.

I hope you enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1980-03-04 Inglewood, CA (FLAC_SB 2nd Gen_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of The Eagles as the played in Inglewood on their 1980 tour.  This is a soundboard recording too.

The limited information for this show I have mentions:

"Another stellar recording from "The RS Archives" (a Mexminute/The Commish Production)"

I'm not 100% sure what that means or where it comes from.  But I do believe I got this FLAC file set in a FLAC DVD-R trade a while back and I think any audio edits in the show were not to the sound but just the types correcting errors or blemishes (i.e. silent tape gaps, etc)?  The recording does sound excellent too! it sounds better than two other copies of the show I have.  Correction...make that one other copy.  One was an old mp3 copy I first had and had forgotten to delete off the drive it was on until just now :-)

The waveform looks great, clipping is not an issue, and the music sounds excellent.  I've had this copy for a long time I know but I just cannot determine where I got it or any additional information on it other than what I've shared.  I did have a collector do a FA and SA on it about a year or two ago because of the results I got with TLH (not very reliable for CDDA/MPEG tests).  The results came back lossless.

I have kept a copy & paste in e-mails of every page and its details (URL included) of the shows I've download since about 2006.  But I have nothing on this one indicating I likely got it around 2005.  I may have gotten it in a trade back around the earlier 1990's even?  But other than the artwork (which I think was found and added later), a tiny text file with no real details, and what I've typed here, this is all I know about this show currently.  But I do know one more thing and that is if you're a fan of the band's music from  this era and you don't have this show, you're going to like it!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Pink Floyd: 1981-06-16 London, England (FLAC_AUD Source 2 1st Gen_2 CD)

This is a superb audience recording from Pink Floyd on their The Wall tour in 1981.  The information provided stated this is an extremely rare source.

This recording sounds a lot like a soundboard and just goes to show how well a person who knows how to capture a live concert can do when they want to.  There is a little hiss from the tapes that has been left.  But that is the way I like it most of the time.  Rather than take out the high end musical and similar frequencies by removing the hiss (something you don't even notice after 5 minutes of listening), it is usually better to leave the recording alone and maintain the natural, excellent sound just as it was captured in a case like this one.

I'm not really sure who captured this show's superb audio or where they were sitting, but they were able to keep the majority of the crowd noises out of the recording too.  I'd have to guess they were up front with directional microphones for them to have kept the audience noise out as well as they did on this show.  The stereo separation is excellent too in the recording.

The one thing I don't like, and chances are this may have been done by someone other than the taper, is the audio clipping in the waveform I see.  As I've mentioned a thousand times before, 99.9% of the listeners will never even recognize any clipping.  And I imagine the boot label may have played with the amplification or even some EQ work to raise some levels that caused the waveform (audio) to clip.  And maybe it was the taper recording with too high of a recording level for all I know?  But even with the clipped audio frequencies and my speculations as to how they happened, this is a superb sounding recording and great show.  Just listening to it as I prepare this upload makes me think of the midnight movies and seeing The Wall and other shows like The Song Remains The Same and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Those were the good ole days!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Billy Squier: 1981-10-10 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_SB/FM_1 CD)

This is an artist I haven't seen or heard of in a long, long time.  Other than a few shows shared in the last  couple of years, Billy Squier kind of just fell off the radar and disappeared.

I like Billy Squier but not enough to do a lot of collecting of his music.  His best era was the one this show being shared comes from.  It took me over an hour to locate some artwork for this performance and I almost decided to put off uploading the show since his material (date included) was so hard to locate and make it where I could make a complete upload here tonight.  But having listened to the show as I was preparing it and while looking for dates and artwork, I decided to go ahead and upload it.  It's a very nice sounding show broadcast by the Superstar in Concert Series radio program we grew up listening to on FM radio.  And I figured there were sure to be some people out there who would love this show a lot more than I might!  I miss those days of hearing live and/or ore-recorded concerts on FM radio stations.

This is an excellent sounding concert and one I thing Billy does a great job in.  And that is why I am uploading this show also.  It's something a little different from what I normally listen to.  But it is great to change things up a little something and enjoy something outside of your normal preferences I think.

I really don't know what did happen to Billy
Squier or why he dropped of the charts.  I do know his music and his look became very "changed" as the 1980's continued and I personally thought his music went downhill and was no good anymore.  But for whatever the reasons are, he had his moment of fame in the blossoming 1981 era when rock was reviving itself within many bands and dying off with many more.  It was a turbulent time in rock 'n' roll and it was a time shaping the future of the music too.  It was shaping it both for the good and the bad I believe.  But one thing is for sure.  Music was never the same again  and in my opinion it only got worse leading up to what people call music nowadays.  If you like what I am talking about today, then you'll disagree with me.  But don't get mad.  I'm not mad at you for liking what I don't even consider to be music anymore and I am stuck (by choice) in the era of music that means what it means to me and I can relate to.  And I am sure those more interested in today's music likely feel much same way.  And I'm not knocking you for it either!

Getting back on topic here, while the concert has great sound, someone clipped the audio badly as they either recorded it too loudly or possibly EQ'ed it this copy.  It won't be a problem for 99.9% of the people listening.  I'm just reporting it because looking at the waveform it is very obvious.

I hope you enjoy this Billy
Squier show...

Jimi Hendrix: "Black Gold" Volumes 1 - 3 (FLAC_SB/Studio_5 CD)

This is an excellent 5 CD Jimi Hendrix studio outtakes and rehearsals set of unreleased material broken up into three volumes.  But this upload I am making is all three volumes (5 CD's) and is titled "Black Gold".

I would have left the file set intact and I would have just uploaded this one "as is" because the work done to create this file set originally was done right. The tracks were even embedded with metadata showing the song titles and other pertinent information.  But there was one problem unfortunately.  There were sector boundary errors on each disc and I had to fix those.  And once an edit or repair like that is made, all of the other work (such as embedding the metadata, creating ffp and md5 files, etc) has to be redone because the information is stripped and changed up and the checksums will not match up to the original file set anymore once the repairs are made.  What a bummer!  It sure would have saved me a lot of time not having to do all of that stuff.

And what a shame it is for the person who originally did all  of thi work too.  They must have spent a lot of time preparing the files.  I'm not sure why they didn't catch the sector boundary errors (SBE's) that rendered their extra work and effort useless.  I've made mistakes and forgotten steps just as everyone else who takes time to do things right has too.  And I imagine with the work the person did, they knew better too and likely just overlooked it by accident.  But I still thank them for their attempt and hard work!  Besides, the most important part of the file set (aka the lossless music files) were all there and without those nothing would have been possible!  So kudos and thank you to the party that made these available for fans like us :-)

The artwork for this show has a 10 page booklet reportedly.  But it wasn't in the file set I have.  In this upload, just the the artwork for each volume is included.  That is pretty much the front and back covers.  I'm just adding the Volume One art to the sample image in this post and the other two volumes are in the download.  If I had the 10 page booklet from the 5 CD set I'd add it too.  But I don't.

This is a very enjoyable set of CD's to listen to and I have been listening the past 3 hours to them today and still am only a little over halfway done.

I hope you enjoy the unreleased Hendrix studio recordings...

Jimmy Hendrix: Raw Blues (1968-1970) (FLAC_SB/Studio_2 CD)

This is an awesome 2 CD set of Hendrix and band in the studio making tracks that would many years later be used for consideration in  a release of an album, "Blues", long after Hendrix was dead

I love this one!  Studio recorded songs and jams, some lasting about 30 minutes, but never released is what I like!  And each disc is almost a full disc too.  You cannot beat it.  I don't know much more about this 2 CD set other than what little info was in a text file.  I got it from a defunct Spanish (language) site that I could not read.  Even translating it made no sense in English.  Plus it looked like there was not really any additional information on the recordings anyhow being shared on the site.

This really is one of the best Hendrix recordings I have heard in a long time.  The sounds is excellent, but even better is the musical jamming.  This is like a concert in the studio really.  I do not detect any studio overdubs or things like that.  This sounds like the band just recording their jam sessions in the studio.  I cannot say for sure this is the case, but I think that it is.

For those who may not know, "Blues" was a release in 1994 of Hendrix songs spanning between 1966 and 1970.  According to Wikipedia, there were 11 tracks on it and six were never released before.  This unreleased recording being shared here today contains tracks and takes  that were being considered for the official 1994 "Blues" release but were not used.

I hope you enjoy the recordings...

Evanescence: 2006-10-09 New York, NY (FLAC_AUD Master_1 CD)

Here is another Evanescence show recorded by the taper known as ALANiS.  I'm guessing, but may be wrong, that ALANiS is a girl.  One thing is for sure about this taper.  They like Evanescence and have some shows I really, really wish I could find in a lossless format!  Unfortunately; a lot of the Evanescence shows have been converted into lossy mp3's before I found them.  And seeing the details and specific information ALANiS puts in their lineage and posts, I seriously doubt they're the one ruining shows by converting them to mp3's!

Evanescence is a superb band and I love everything from the singer, Amy Lee, to the music and lyrics too.  Unfortunately, at this time they're not doing anything and Amy Lee did a solo release which I did not get.  It was sold via the web as an mp3 download only.  I will NEVER buy an mp3 release.  Had it been FLAC or another lossless format, I'd have gotten it.  I'm still steaming somewhat over that stupid stunt.  I hope the band gets back together, gets in the studio, and then gets back on the road soon because they really are great to see live and I've seen (and recorded) every Dallas show since twelve days after this one (10/21) when I first saw them.  And I'm ready for some more!

The waveform looks excellent for this show!  And that's another testament to the fact ALANiS is a knowledgeable taper.

The following is a copy & paste of ALANiS' notes in their post.  They're kind of funny I think:

"The opening of "Sweet Sacrifice" starts off a little rough, Amy's mic wasn't turned on for the opening lyrics and then the sound guy blasted her vocal, but quickly adjusted it. Also, near the end of "Going Under", two little hoes decided they wanted to stand directly in front of us. I got to the venue at 4pm to secure my front row balcony seat and they thought they could just get to the venue late, come to the front of the balcony railing, and stand in front of us. I don't think so. My friend had a confrontation with them and ended up getting a security guard to get them moved (during the ending of "Haunted" - You can hear the security guard telling them to return to their seat). Anyways, for the end of "Going Under" and the end of "Haunted" the sound is a little muffled because the hoes were blocking my line of sight to the speaker stacks. Other than that, pretty good recording overall with little to no audience rambling."

I hope you enjoy the show...

Coverdale/Page: 1993-XX-XX "Rehearsals 1993" (FLAC_SB/Studio_2 CD)

This is an interesting CD set I've had for a long time but have not even seen in over a decade.  I didn't do an EAC rip of my discs because I came across this EAC rip already done earlier tonight and decided to upload it.  And even though it isn't high resolution artwork, it beats having just the back artwork like I had with my CD set and it should work fine for printing I'm sure.

This is an interesting set of studio recordings in 1993 from various session with David Coverdale and Jimmy Page.  They do some Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, and Coverdale/Page tracks and it's fun listening to them.

The waveform looks fine and there is no clipping in the audio.  Of course coming from a studio, you'd hope and expect that to be the case too.

While Coverdale is definitely no Robert Plant, he does a decent enough job imitating him and would sound a lot better if he had better timing with his Plant lyrics in songs like "Black Dog".

If nothing else, this is an entertaining CD set to throw in and check out ever so often.  The sounds is great.  It's not superb but it does sound very good too.  It falls (in my ratings) between a great-to-excellent recording.  And it could easily be EQ'ed and made to sound a lot more vibrant too.  It'd be a lot more enjoyable if it was a superb recording I can definitely say (as would every single recording we collect).  But there is really nothing wrong with it and it's a cool piece of 21 year old history now.

I hope you enjoy the recordings...

EVSD did a good job on this show and even the waveform looks great with no clipping in it.  As with any audience recording, there are a few sound changes in it at various spots.  Some are for the better and some are not.  But overall, this made for an excellent listening experience yesterday as I was working around the house.  It had been way too long since I'd listened to this whole show and the first time I'd listened to this upgraded copy compared to the others I have had.

The artwork for the three CD's was in the old style where each CD had a case and artwork of its own.  So I'm only adding the front box set artwork to this post.  And the rest, with different parts of the setlists on each of the three CD cover backs, is enclosed in the download.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Jimmy Page: 1988-10-22 Detroit, MI + Bonus (AUD Shot DVD_Upgrade)

Before anything, thanks goes to "Audioarchivi" for sharing this video upgrade over on Dime recently.  This is his third generation copy and project he put together and shared for us to enjoy!

This is an excellent show and recording and a great video upgrade of this performance too.  The video is definitely an upgrade to the exact same source I have that has LPCM audio and is also missing "Who's To Blame".  LPCM audio is preferred of course, at least in most cases, but the video in this copy being shared is much better.  I'm not sure if it is the type of professional VHS tape used to copy it to or if it is the third generation lineage (or both) that makes the video sharper and with less color fading.  But whatever the reason is, it does look better and sounds excellent too.

The song "Who's To Blame" is missing from the video as it is from other videos I've seen of this show.  The sharing party told a story in their Dime share on how he got this recording from the the taper selling it.  It sounds like the guy who had the original video and sold it probably left the first song off as well as chopped out part of the "Stairway to Heaven" solo if you ask me.  Maybe it had to do with the time allotted on VHS tapes, usually 2 hours in 1988, or maybe he did it for future releases of a "complete show" to make more money.  This is just speculation on my part.  But from what the sharing party said in their post, the taper was largely into bootlegging everything from movies (copyrighted material) to concerts and then selling them and he was arrested in a large operation soon afterward.  So, we may never know the full story on the tape here.  But if anyone out there has a copy with "Who's To Blame" and especially a complete "Stairway To Heaven", please speak up.

In the bonus November 4th, 1988 Syracuse, NY video added to the end of this DVD, it cuts out the soon after it gets started.  I am not sure if this was a video from the same taper as the Detroit show but it sounds and looks like it easily might be.  That "Stairway to Heaven" cuts out too.  Maybe this was was done on this DVD because it was the end of the DVD's storage capcity?  Or, maybe it was taped by the same taper and he was cutting the prized song as I mentioned in the above paragraph for later releasing reasons?  This is a DVD I do not have and have not ever seen!  If anyone has the 1988-11-04 Syracuse, NY video, please, please, please share it or let me know!

The artwork included with this upload is the same (wrong) artwork included with ever copy of this show I've ever seen.  It has "Who's To Blame" on the setlist too.  It kind of makes me wonder if "Who's To Blame" was even recorded on 1988-10-22 in Detroit and if someone just accidentally added it to artwork since I've never seen it on a video of the show before?  But it reportedly is on some videos and is the first song played.

I hope you enjoy the concert...
