Led Zeppelin: 1972-06-22 San Bernardino, CA (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen Remastered_2 CD)

Here's an excellent Zeppelin show from San Bernardino in 1972.  I've got three or four copies of this show on this PC and I like this copy's sound the best.  It is a Winston Remasters project and it has a cleaner, brighter, and more natural sound than the label copies or another 2nd generation copy I have.  They all sound great but this one sounds greater.

As with a lot of shows, the sound increasingly gets better as the show progresses too.

Winston's Note:
Please Note: Stairway to Heaven had a very small cut. I used a 2nd Gen cassette > CD-R of the same source to patch it.

I really like the Winston Remasters releases in most cases better because he knows how to make music sound its best according my my eardrums.  This show is no exception.

One thing I think is really cool in this show is the way the band adds "The Crunge" into "Dazed and Confused" after the violin bow solo.  Plant sings a tiny bit of some lyrics not from the song but it is mostly an instrumental addition to the song.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-09-29 Osaka, Japan (FLAC_AUD 5 Sources_3 CD)

Today is the 43rd anniversary of this concert in Osaka Led Zeppelin put on in 1971.  And the songs are a different variety than the previous night's setlist too.  Sure, there are many of the same songs.  But this show sounds like a completely different high energy night as the mighty Zep rocked Osaka again.

I may do some copy & paste segments in this upload today.  There is way too much information to pass along and I don't have a lot of time to do it today.  I have 14 different copies of this date's sources, labels, and the likes.  This is the second from longest, or most complete, copy of the show I have.  It clocks in at 197:53 in length (or 3 hours, 18 minutes almost).  I have one other LP sourced copy that is about 2 minutes longer.  And I'm searching still for some other copies of the show I've yet to hear but have heard were even better sounding.

LINEAGE:
NOTE: Primary source is an onstage audience recording for this show but it has been mistaken for a soundboard in earlier years.  There were a number of parts cut from the person recording the onstage audio so those are what the changes in sound on this show are from as other audience sources have been used to fill in those gaps and any other missing audio gaps.

Back in 2011, this 3 CD set was released by Tarantura celebrating the 40th anniversary of the show.  I may do some more checking and upload another copy or two of this show.  To be honest, I'm not sure which one is the best sounding yet.  But I really like this one, I'm listening to it now, and it is a great representation of the almost complete show.  I did notice it looks as if Tarantura may have heavily clipped the audio in the waveform I saw.  But that's what bootleg labels do out of stupidity.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the sources used for this recording.  There is artwork included with this same information on it too.  Here's the copy & paste of his breakdown:

Liner notes:
Professor Wallofski and Friends Live In Japan
The Japanese vinyl bootleg double LP "Live In Japan"and its American reissue "Live In Osaka 9/29 '71"featured a substantial part of the amazing "stage recording"of the final concert of Led Zeppelin's 1971 tour of Japan. Further selections from this recording were included on other vinyl bootlegs such as "Strange Tales From The Road" and "Unburried Dead Zeppo's Grave". Whatever tapes were used to make those LPs have since been lost or hoarded or have deteriorated, because none of the countless versions of this famous recording that have been released on CD or circulated among tape traders has ever sounded so good. This 3-CD set presents the concert in its entirety, collating the available material from the LPs and using the best available copies of the stage recording, plus two alternative audience recordings, to complete the picture.

***************************************END

Needless to say, this is one of the most widely versed, worked on, and distributed Zeppelin shows out there.  There are numerous sources, labels, LP's, and titles to go with this date.  As I stated at the beginning, I've got 14 copies I was looking at trying to decide which to upload today.  So finding any "one best" copy is really an impossibility almost.  Each has its own reason for being better in one part of the show than others with so many sources being mixed.  The primary, I believe 174 minute, source that was thought to be soundboard does get used the most since it is close to complete and sounds best.  So that's one thing most mixed source copies have in common; but not always.

I'm going to get this show uploaded now so anyone else wanting to give it a listen on its 43rd anniversary can join in with me today!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-09-28 Osaka, Japan (FLAC_AUD Source 1 & 2 2nd Gen_3 CD)

Here is a great, out of the ordinary setlist show on its 43rd anniversary today that goes unnoticed many times.  There are two sources, both second generation copies, that make up this very unique show being uploaded here.  Source 1 is the majority of the recording and the better sounding source which runs through the "Whole Lotta Love" medley where Source 2 kicks in for "C'mon Everybody" and runs for the remainder of the show.  The recording has been speed corrected and some other non audio edits have also been done to make it a better listen.  I can't believe I've not uploaded this show before and was quiet surprised to realize I hadn't last night.

There are a number of different copies or labels with their recordings of this show.  Many run at incorrect speeds.  But this copy has been speed corrected.

Led Zeppelin was really playing some out of the ordinary old songs on this night.  The did this on all kinds of shows, but not usually these many "non Led Zeppelin" songs in one show or night.  This is a very unique show and a great one for any Zeppelin collector.

After comparing a few different copies of this date, I do believe this is the best sounding recording of the show I have too.  The labels seem to have had issues with their mixing of the show and they overpowered the bass or just made a muddy mess of their projects in some cases.  There were some other copies that sounded pretty good too though.  But since I know this copy is speed corrected, and it does sound the best unedited audio-wise I believe, I'm sharing it first.  I can always share the others at later dates if there is any interest in them.

I'm sorry this is getting uploaded so late but that couldn't be helped.  I'm still getting it uploaded before midnight on 9/28 and I hope you enjoy the concert from 43 years ago today...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-05-22 Fort Worth, TX (FLAC_AUD_3 CD)

This is the recently released EVSD 3 CD audience copy that went along with the 3 CD soundboard recording in their new Texas Hurricane 6 CD set.  Thanks goes to "fishey" for sharing his silver CD EAC burns!

I've still not listened to this full audience recording yet.  I'd planned on doing it yesterday but got sidetracked by the superb 1970-03-07 Montreux Jazz Festival audience recording and the 1971-04-01 Paris Theatre in London soundboard recordings.  I'm about to go ahead and listen to the Fort Worth audience copy by EVSD now.

I did an initial comparison of a few songs between other copies, such as the Silver Rarities and Wendy labels copies, as I mentioned yesterday.  Initially, I do think this EVSD copy sounds better with more high end frequencies being present.  I also think from looking at the waveform of the tracks that there are going to be at least two sources used in EVSD's release.  Again, as previously mentioned yesterday, the SIRA (Silver Rarities) It'll Be Zep recording and the Duckwalk and Lasers LP I have seem to be from the same sources used in the EVSD audience set.  However, EVSD claims this 3 CD set is from the audience master copies on their artwork.  So the recording isn't anything new source wise I do not believe.  The Duckwalk and Lasers source is a much cleaner, better sounding recording but is incomplete.  I believe it starts on "Stairway to Heaven" and goes through the final song "It'll Be Me" if I'm remembering things right.  And the waveform on these EVSD tracks, as well as the sound, show different recordings were used on the Texas Hurricane audience recording and match my early hypothesis.  In fact, the audio in the latter, cleaner sourced recording is clipped a lot in EVSD's release (from amplification possible).  I can't hear it but I sure can see it in the waveform.  The earlier, main audience source used through most of the show has a lot better looking waveform with just a few periodic spikes indicating any clipping of the audio.

Anyhow, let me get on with uploading this recording.  I can always come back and analyze it more and update it later.

One thing of interest I just noticed was the extra song on the soundboard recording that is not on any audience recordings as far as I recall and see!  The newly surfaced sounboard has "The Battle of Evermore" as the second track on CD 2.  I originally thought EVSD had made a mistake on their artwork and I may have en mentioned that when I uploaded the soundboard recording.  Any yes, they still did make mistakes in spelling "Fort Worth".  But they didn't add an extra song that didn't exist in the concert.  I find this very interesting and wonder if there is an audience recording of "The Battle of Evermore" now?

I'm going to put my discs in an listen to the show now and enjoy the show.  I hope you enjoy the concert too...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-05-22 Fort Worth, TX (FLAC_SB_Fan Remaster_3 CD)

I'm uploading a copy of a show I really haven't had time to check out yet.  This is a remaster of the recently released EVSD Texas Hurricane soundboard of Led Zeppelin's Fort Worth 1977 concert.  This is a remaster by LZJoker.  He seems to have done most of the things I like doing to make an upload a much more "full and nice" share.  Things like naming the songs, embedding the metadata/song titles and information into the tracks, etc have already been done.  So I don't have to do these things myself and this show is ready to upload "as is" today.

I may have accidentally left my folder titled "not in my upload-torrent folder" in this upload.  If so, you can just delete it.  All it is is the parent folder LZJoker used to put his files into and it is not needed unless you're seeding it as a torrent where he shared it.  Like I said, if that folder is in there, just delete it because it is not needed and it is empty.

LINEAGE:
EVSD silver CD's > EAC > FLAC 8 > Izotope RX4 Adv > rebalanced and dehummed and some widening and EQ and tagged > FLAC 8 > me > TLH (to check for SBE's and verify ffp & *md5 files) > you

*md5 file shows two missing (likely earlier versions) files, one being an ffp file and the other being an md5 file.  This affects nothing and all of the other files check fine and error free.

As I mentioned already, I haven't had the time to listen to this copy very much.  What I have heard seems to have more hiss and high end frequencies possibly.  But I really cannot review this remaster until I honestly compare it to the Empress Valley Supreme Disc (EVSD) release just a week earlier.

There will likely be some soundboard and audience matrix projects of this Fort Worth 1977 Led Zeppelin show coming out.  Those will likely be improvements overall.  I'm hoping Winston Remasters does one since I enjoy his remaster projects so much most of the time.

I do have the rest of the EVSD Texas Hurricane 6 CD set now too.  The first 3 CD set was the soundboard which I have already uploaded and this remaster here is sourced from.  The second 3 CD set is the audience recording of the show and it came with the higher end box set EVSD released.  I've done a little comparing of the audience to the Silver Rarities label It'll Be Zep audience copy of the show that this EVSD version is reportedly the same source of.  If it is, the EVSD 3 CD sounds a lot better from my initial listening (just to "Since I've Been Loving You" and part of "Stairway to Heaven").  I am wondering right now if EVSD used the old "Duckwalk & Lasers" partial source, a much better sounding source, for the ending portion of the show.  I'll have to check but it initially sounded like this may be the case.

I also have a few other copies of audience recordings for this date, both label copies and non label copies, that I want to compare.  But overall, my initial browsing of the EVSD Texas Hurricane audience CD's sounds like they may be better.  And I will be uploading those 3 CD's soon too.  In fact, depending on my day today, I may be able to upload the last 3 EVSD CD's today.  So stay tuned if you're interested!

I hope you enjoy this LZJoker remaster of the recently surface Fort Worth 1977 soundboard.  In fact, when I get to listen to it I hope I enjoy it too...

Led Zeppelin: 1980-10-XX A Tribute To John Bonham (FLAC_FM BX_1 CD)

With today, September 25th, 2014, being the 34th anniversary of John Bonham's death; I figured this recent British FM radio broadcast from right after Bonham's death was a fitting upload.  This is not a music upload but an FM radio broadcast with interviews and discussions regarding John Henry Bonham, the "best drummer the band (Led Zeppelin) ever had" as Robert plant joked about a few times before Bonham's "Moby Dick" was played live in concerts.  He was the only drummer Led Zeppelin ever had with the rare exception of the reunions after his death and the final 2007 concert where Jason Bonham, the son of the late John Bonham, was the drummer.

Here's a copy & paste of part of the original text file included:
February 2012 analogue tape transfer of BRMB Radio's tribute programme to John Henry Bonham. This show was presented by John Slater in early October 1980, featuring contributions from Danny King, Don Fewtrell, Malcolm Jay, Bev Bevan, Jeff Lynn, Ozzy Osbourne.

(1) A Tribute To John Bonham (October 1980 Broadcast)

A certain breed of music died in December of 1980 when Led Zeppelin disbanded after Bonham's death on September 25th.  I remember feeling a depressed kind of feeling when listening to music during all of 1980 to be honest.  I wasn't hearing any new Led Zeppelin songs because no album had been released since 1979 by the band.  The new wave of what people were calling music was making its way into the airwaves and I was hearing nothing I liked over FM radio.  I was a really young teen then, but I knew what I liked and I wasn't hearing it.

Thankfully, and as I was growing up more and starting to really search music for more than a cool sound, I came across Journey in 1981 and it "opened the door" and filled the gap that had been left.  And even though the new wave of music made its way in anyhow, there were some great years left in the 1980's (and going mainly back into the 1970's albums I didn't know of) from bands like Journey, REO Speedwagon, and a few others who spoke to my generation.  And it wasn't too many years later when I started my own musical journey of collecting, finding, and listening to what people commonly call "bootlegs".  Not only did the song never remain the same, but the true talent of the artist was heard and the adventure of hearing the bands I liked live (but had not been able to see) was just beginning.

So even though a certain breed of music passed away when John Bonham did, the music never died and lives on through sites like mine and many others.  People, and I know many of my friends, think we are a dying breed today.  I say screw what they think!  I could care less if they want to listen to today's "music" or not.  We all have out own tastes and that is fine.  But as long as I am able to do it, I plan on listening, finding, and really just enjoying the rare, never released music from when rock 'n' roll was real.  I'm talking about the days when there were the Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jon Lord, Johnny Winter, and John Henry Bonham's that ruled the airwaves and the day!

As "Blockbuster's" sentiment in his text file states. "John Bonham always remembered - never forgotten."

Here's a good, full concert filmed by MTV back in 1998.  This copy is a lot better than the previous copy I had which had audio problems.  However, there is still a better version I believe put out by Cosmic Energy titled "Bucharest Boogie" and another label's copy too that should be better.  And this copy I'm sharing is a VHS to standalone burned version copy too I'm sure and it has a few audio and video flaws throughout the show.  There are shorter versions of this concert also available, but this is the full concert.

One thing you will want to do with this copy is use your television's "Zoom" feature (on HDTV's).  This show was filmed in the 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen) but this is a 4:3 transfer.  There are letterbox borders (black sides and/or top portions on the screen) when watching the DVD in the regular widescreen mode on a TV.  But if you use zoom, it fits the screen like it is suppose to.

I am attempting to get the upgrade, hopefully the one I know that has LPCM audio too, and then I'll upload that copy here.  I have no idea if I'll be able to get it or not.  I've been searching for it and have not been able to find more than a mention of it so far.  But there is hope with some news I got earlier this morning from another collector/trader.  So we'll see what happens!

The last 15 minutes approximately of this disc are just black screen and there is no video.  It seems around 1 hour, 45 minutes into the DVD the concert ends so the recording continues through to the SP mode 2 hour cut off and there is just black screen.

This is a bare basics DVD without any editing and it has flaws as I mentiuoned.  I uploaded the DVD yesterday with the original text file that was in it (song titles pretty much).  So my normal text file, or copy of this page and its details, is not included.  Copy and paste this post yourself if you want to keep the details close by and add it to the EXTRAS folder.

This is still a decent recording and a great show from very early in the 1998 tour's opening shows and I hope you enjoy it..

I uploaded the 1975-05-24 show, or the previous night's show, here a while back.  Both shows I highly recommend if you like Led Zeppelin.  This show being uploaded today is the very last time, up until the 2007-12-10 Led Zeppelin reunion show and likely final show, that the band played "Dazed and Confused" live.  I really hate that too!  But it's a historic fact in rock 'n' roll history.

Rather than run on and talk about the show, I'm going to stop typing and post the show.

You will not be disappointed with this show I can guarantee you...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-07-06 Newport, RI (FLAC_AUD 2nd Gen Source 1_1 CD)

This is the best recording I've heard of the Led Zeppelin show at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1969.  I've got a DVD-A of this same source.  It sounds excellent too, but it doesn't have a slideshow as the music plays and it just is not as good sounding as this transfer is.  This is the Hedrick transfer I'm uploading and the DVD-A is the Doinker transfer.  I may upload the DVD-A at a later date too just because it does sound great also and it is a 48 kHz/24 bit audio source too.

I've had this show for many, many years but not this specific low generation copy.  I've probably had this for about two or three years.

The recordings for this show have always suffered from a low volume on Robert Plant's vocals issue.  This was a problem at the show and even Robert Plant realized it was occuring because he asks the crowd if they can hear him and they yell back "no".  The problem seems to go back and forth between being fixed and not working right again.  Plant can be heard.  It just isn't as lound as he should be heard.  But the concert still sounds excellent and the clarity of Page's guitar and Jones' and Bonham's instruments is excellent.  This Hedrick transfer seems to have a better capture of the low end bass than the Doinker transfer and the high end frequencies sound sharper too.

The very end of "Communication Breakdown" is cut off and I imagine the taper likely ran out of tape.  Without any information on the gear or tape used, it's hard to say for sure what happened.  But if the tape was a 60 minute tape, and especially if the taper had recorded anything else or started recording the show a few minutes earlier than when we hear the show beginning, he would have run out of tape then.  The recording is 55:07 long.  This is not the end of the show either because "Long, Tall Sally" is also played and was recorded on the source 2 tape for this show.  I'll eventually upload that recording too.  But the source 1 tape did not get that song or the ending of "Communication Breakdown" recorded.

Give this excellent show a listen and let me know what you think...

Led Zeppelin: Studio Haze (FLAC_SB-Studio_2 CD)

Here's another sessions and outtakes CD set I got in the mid 1990's.  There are a wide range of studio recorded songs from different dates and locations in these sessions.  And sometimes the recordings were just  experimental music being played by one or more of the band members.  A lot of times, you can hear parts from future, not yet created, Zeppelin songs in some of the experimental playing.  Sometimes the songs didn't actually surface and turn into official releases for 5 years or so.  There really are cool, excellent sounding, and very rare tracks on this CD set.

As with each of these recordings of studio sets, some music is new and some is duplicated.  I'm actually listening to the Antrabata 11 (or 13) CD set today as I do things around the house.  There area few other 13, 16, and even 18 CD set recordings I have of various Led Zeppelin studio recordings.  There are so many, and this is not even counting the ones like this I got back in the 1990's, that it bcomes impossible to really know if something new or better sounding may be on another set many times.  They don't always (or usually even) get named the same on each file set or CD shared by other collectors and that can add to the confusion too.  But I have an answer for that problem  Get them all!

This Studio Haze Volume One 2 disc set I''m uploading today is one I got about 1995 or 1996 I believe.  I know I got it in a town in North Texas that use to get Led Zeppelin silver CD sets just for me because they knew I'd get them.  In fact, I started picking which ones I wanted them to get so I'd make sure to get what I wanted.

Boy, things sure have changed haven't they?  They've changed for the better in that it is easier to get (at no cost I might add) what you want instantly via the internet and in the highest of quality too.  But they've also changed for the worse in that people do not know or care most times if it is an mp3 (lossy) sourced piece of junk or a WAV (lossless) sourced gem.  Modern technology helped, but with the degradation of music ever so suddenly you really need to be careful and make sure you aren't getting lossy sourced material if you want to carry on the legacy and traditions of music preservation and collecting.  Hopefully, this will sink in with at least one person that reads this.  Otherwise, in the close future quality will be a past-time in music preservation. I've even chcked recordings I got on disc as late as 1998 and have found them to be mpeg sourced (or mp3 or some other lossy audio format) recordings.  What a huge disappointment after having them for 16 years to find this out.  That's one reason I try to always add my TLH CDDA Test log sheets to show the integrity of the audio I'm sharing.  Trader's Little Helper (TLH) is not the best program to use and can give false readings sometimes.  But it is great for your average testing of a recording usually.  And the more accurate and positive results from frequency analysis (FA) and spectral analysis (SA) will always tell th truth and any decent audio program will include the ability to do these types of checks.  And that's including a lt of free, excellent, and professional programs like Audacity.  Even my cheap AVS Audio Editor program has the ability to do the FA and SA checks.

I left my original 2000 scanned artwork in this upload because I'd used Photoshop back then to make the artwork look better (I think).  But I also rescanned all the artwork again today, 14 years later, for hopefully better looking scans.  The back artwork has always been hard to read.  And with my vision, I'm not even going to try and add the additional details on which studios each track was recorded at and on what dates.  It's on the back artwork so hopefully you can read it.  If not, leave a comment and I'll make an update once I can read it.  The newer scans I made today are still 300 dpi like the old 2000 scans are, but they seem to be higher resolution and are definitely larger in file size (significantly larger too).

I hope you enjoy the studio recordings...

Led Zeppelin: Stairway Sessions (1970/1971) (FLAC_SB/Studio_1 CD)

As I was just talking with a friend over on Facebook, I realized I really haven't added any studio sessions or outtakes in a long, long, long time.  I've pretty much just been uploading live shows.  So I'm going to upload a fast and easy one here from the circa 1970/1971 Led Zeppelin studio sessions.  I better upload it now because who knows what will become official in a month when the new Led Zeppelin (IV) set is released?  I'm sure it would be better quality than these, however, these are excellent-to-superb too.  I have much better recordings in other sets of some of these same songs.  But these will do just fine.  Besides, I may need to pull them in a month anyhow?

These tracks were recorded in Bron-Y-Aur Cottage in 1970 and in Headley Grange Studio in 1971.  Led Zeppelin actually lived at the house where the studio was as they were putting Led Zepelin (IV) together.  So it wasn't like getting up and going to the studio to work when they were doing these recordings.  It was more like sitting in the living room, with their brandy, and recording at 2 AM in a lot of cases we know.  And now that I'm listening to the CD I'm remembering this is a heck of a lot better sounding than I first remembered.  These are superb recordings so far!

It's been way too long since I've listen to these tracks and I'm really enjoying them.  Hearing how songs were constructed well before they ever made it to an album, sometimes with different lyrics and/or instrument playing, is really awesome!  Back in the 1990's I got tons of CD's from rarities type record stores with these same tracks and many others on them.  So I've heard them a thousand times if I've heard them once.  But after not listening to them for a long time, it's almost like hearing them for the first time.  And Silver Rarities has some excellent-to-superb copies of the tracks too.  This is definitely a superb sounding recording to me, and even if I have some songs sounding better on other studio sets I have, the overall rating of this whole set is superb!  It was much better than I recalled...that is for sure!

I may be uploading some more silver CD rips of studio sessions soon?  It kind of makes me wonder...sure does :-)

One last paragraph here with a question.  What would you rather see me upload?  More live shows, more soundboards, more studio sessions, or more videos?  Let me know if you have a preference.  And as anyone who's already made a request knows, I honor the request and upload what is being requested.  So what do you have to loose by putting your two cents into the pot.  While all that glitters is not gold, a lot of it is!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Led Zeppelin: 1971-09-13 Berkeley, CA (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

Here's another great show from 43 years ago tonight as Led Zeppelin played at Berkeley Community Theatre.  I could just imagine the atmosphere during this time and at this college town venue.

One thing I've always liked about Zeppelin and for the most part despise about today's artists is they didn't get involved in whatever the ongoing topics, problems, or discussions were in their day as they played concerts.  They got up on stage and rocked the house.  They didn't start talking about Vietnam, drugs, or whatever the rest of the people were talking or thinking about.  They didn't use the stage to voice their opinions but they did use it to voice their talent!  And that's what people wanted to hear.  Today, if you don't have some topic you stand for and fight for even when you shouldn't be you aren't considered "an artist" I guess?  Ahh the good ole days!

Another testament as to how great things were back in the day is the recorder this show was taped with.  According to the lineage, the tape recorder's built in microphone was used!  There is no distortion or problems that plague modern recorders and cameras often in today's equipment due to cheap microphones that distort if someone farts.  The sound is full and rich and sounds great-to-excellent (and even superb as halfway through "Dazed And Confused" is proving) in this show.

Like last night (or early this morning really), I'm listening to this show as I make the upload tonight.  In fact, I'm done talking about it and I'm going to go enjoy it as soon as I can get this upload going :-)

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Led Zeppelin: 1973-07-07 Chicago, IL (FLAC_AUD Master_3 CD)

This is an excellent recording of the July 7th, 1973 Zeppelin show in Chicago.  I'm not sure if this is one source only or if a filler source has been used in some areas like the  very first, incomplete track "Rock And Roll"?  There is a huge difference in sound once the second song, "Over The Hills And Far Away", kicks in and it is a huge improvement with a much, much cleaner sound.

This show didn't have a lot of information at all with it other than the lineage and the fact it has been "reworked".  I'm not exactly sure what that is suppose to mean, but who really cares when it sounds excellent I guess.

The crowd noise level is great and so low in this recording that it makes you almost forget the previous night's rowdy crowd and the problems they reportedly caused.  Even with a mono microphone being used, this recording has an almost superb clarity to it.  Too bad the taper didn't have a stereo microphone they used on this night.

Overall, this is an excellent recording that is very clean and clear and it let's the listener hear the concert very well with an excellent mix too.  Plant's vocals as well as all instruments are evenly distributed and very clear sounding.

I'm actually listening to the show again right now because it has been a while since I have heard it.  I'm mid stream in "No Quarter" right now, the temperature has dropped into the low 60°F range heading for 55°F overnight supposedly (after being 102°F two days ago), I just made me some hot chocolate, and it all feels like it's coming together very well with the music playing trough the home theater system just after midnight.   Something about this time of year, when the weather starts changing for the better and cooler temperatures, reminds me of growing up listening to Led Zeppelin and songs like "No Quarter" live but on the cassette tape The Song Remains The Same.  I don't know what it is that reminds me of those days and sets the mood, but there's no doubt that adding Led Zeppelin and "No Quarter" to the mix is what tops it off.  It wouldn't work without it.

Alright, getting back on topic now...you should love this recording if you enjoy Zeppelin's music.  The taper did a superb job and captured a great recording and night some forty-one years ago in Chicago and Led Zeppelin put on a superb show too.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-05-22 Fort Worth, TX (FLAC_SB Master_3 CD)

A brand new soundboard of the Fort Worth 1977 show just hit the surface yesterday!  We've had audience recordings of the show and parts of the show for years, but now we have the soundboard put out by EVSD.  A huge thanks gores to "Amduscia" for making this one available and for the permission to share it here on my site.

While there is speculation this may actually be a great sounding monitor feed and not the actual master soundboard tapes that were used, either way, it sounds excellent and we've never had it in any soundboard/monitor form before.

ARTWORK: (Texas Hurricane artwork scans provided by "fishey"!)

There are a few small cuts in the show.  One of the most noticeable to me is the first three to four minutes of "No Quarter" being gone.  The song sounds as if it plays for at least 15 minutes before Robert Plant sings.  It seem this part of the show doesn't exist.  Another very obvious cut is the one in "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" as it lyrically gets started and then stops with just crowd cheering a little over a minute into the song.  Still, even with a few missing pieces, why in the world would anyone complain?

This is an excellent sounding show and a lot of the well versed audiophiles have commented on how much better of a job EVSD did on this show than they've done on many they've over amplified and/or EQ'ed in past years.  I listened to the whole show yesterday and it has some very nice things you don't hear often enough in it.  For instance, the drums are very up front as are the backing vocals by band members.  John Paul Jones' bass is a little too heavy (for cranking up real loud) at times but that can usually be adjusted.  It still sounds great and I want to have a second listen to it to give a better review of my own.

One thing of interest to us collectors over the years in the audience version of this show is the last track, "It'll Be Me", which has Bad Company's Mick Raplhs come out on stage and play guitar with the band for this song only played this one time.  To me, this track doesn't sound quiet as clean and clear as the rest of the songs.  But it still is better sounding than what has been available.  And again, I need a second listen to see if I still think this is the case.  I was getting tired and starting to nod off as I was trying to finish listening last night and I need to be sure I'm not to blame for the difference in sound (ha ha).

EVSD is releasing the show in one of two different 3 CD sets or a 6 CD set which included the soundboard recording as well as a 3 CD audience recording.  I have to admit, I'm curious which audience recording they're using and how complete it is too?  The photos used on the artwork for the show are from the actual Fort Worth 1977 gig.  However, EVSD has a few typos as they often do on the artwork too including one song added on one set of artwork being completely wrong and Fort Worth being spelled as "FFort Worth" on the cover art.  But I doubt many people are getting the show for its artwork!

It's great to get a new Led Zeppelin soundboard anytime at all.  But I had no idea this one was even on the horizon or that a Fort Worth soundboard existed from 1977.  Kind of makes me wonder what other soundboards are out there awaiting the EVSD decision to put them into circulation?

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Robert Plant: 1985-09-08 London, England + Bonus Material (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

Here's an excellent sounding Plant show from a period of when I really wasn't listening to his music in the day.  It's a little different today and is has more of a nostalgic flashback effect today.  This 1985 tour showcased music from Plant's Shaken "N" Stirred LP released in 1985.  It was a little too "modern" and "dance like" musically for my taste at the time.  Oh yea!  I still own a cassette tape of it somewhere from those days and likely a CD too from later resell bins.  But they were not listened to a lot and are practically brand new too.

As I was listening to this 2 CD show yesterday, as I was trying get it uploaded on its 29th anniversary but failed to, I have to say that it was enjoyable and entertaining.  And it even had some rockin' guitar in it too.  Plant sounds great vocally.  It's definitely not Led Zeppelin and it really isn't very Robert Plant either.  And that makes it pretty unique musically because he didn't stick with singing this kind of music for long either.

As I was looking at the waveform yesterday, I noticed there is some audio clipping especially on CD 2.  I'm not sure it will even be noticeable to most people's hearing and the show still sounds excellent.  I tried making a copy using Audacity's Compressor effect but it didn't really help and it didn't sound right to me.  So I left it as is.  Had I not mentioned it here, chances are nobody would have ever even known this unless they looked at the waveform.

I have to admit that I did enjoy hearing this show yesterday.  Again, partially based on the nostalgic effect I'm sure :-)  But it was a great listen and it's a great recording to grab if for nothing other than making a collection more complete for this point and time in 'the history of Led Zeppelin' (and its members).

I hope you enjoy the concert...
