Led Zeppelin: 1972-10-03 Tokyo, Japan (DVD-A_AUD_48 kHZ LPCM Audio)

This is another excellent audio DVD (higher audio sample and bit rates...or higher quality audio).  It is am audio DVD of the Led Zeppelin Tokyo, Japan show on 1972-10-03.

This is an excellent sounding show and it is almost complete too.  I just put this one to a DVD+R myself and I'm going to listen to it tonight as I do things around the house.  I'm not sure which source this may be, but I can likely find out and update the post later.

I really like these DVD-A discs because you can get the whole show, in higher quality audio I might add, and it's all on one disc.  The recording is continuous from beginning to end and all you have to do is listen.

I didn't add my own text file to this upload.  I just left the one "Presence" made which is the basic lineage, show information, and setlist.  There really isn't much more needed anyway.

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1970-03-07 Montreux, Switzerland (FLAC_AUD Revised_2 CD)

This is one of the very best sounding Led Zeppelin audience recordings to have ever surfaced.  It's too bad the show after "How Many More Times" didn't get captured too because this audience is better sounding than the soundboard of the remaining part of the show.

Credit for this revised copy, details below, goes to "pernod."  He did this revision to the Atlantic Ocean Records label copy called "Divinity.  I recall getting the original Divinity from a friend in Oklahoma, David E., back in 1999 when it was hot off the presses.  And I bet I listened to it 20 times in the first month.  Whichever label you may have of this same source, it is likely to sound superb too.

I uploaded the EVSD copy of the show in the past here on my site too.  I uploaded the 3 CD version of it.  The third disc is nothing extra and is just the soundboard part of the show which is also on the other two discs.

It appears this show was partially broadcast over the radio in 1970.  I have that recording too, but it doesn't sound as good as this recording does.  But I do believe it has the whole "Whole Lotta Love" song which is something not on this disc.  "Whole Lotta Love" was not recorded from the audience iso it is not on Divinity.  In fact "How Many More Tines" fades out right around 9:07 too when the audience taping ends.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Jimi Hendrix: 1970-07-30 Maui, HI (Pro Shot DVD_Mike Parker Project)

This is my favorite Jimi Hendrix video.  Had the creators of the Rainbow Bridge documentary and interviews video had the foresight to make something like this, it would have been a stellar release officially.  But they didn't.  This blows the other release away.

I had no information on this video other than what was in my memory and on the back of the artwork.  I somehow, and likely on a crashed hard drive, lost the original text file with the information on this project.  But I found what I was looking for information wise, the majority of the important information from the text file, and it is copied and pasted at the end of this posting.

For the lineage and details on this recording and project by Mike Parker, you can also see the artwork below.  I do know this project was meticulously created by Parker and he spent a very long time putting it together.  Read the bottom of the artwork's back cover for some additional interesting details.

(4) 1970-07-30 Maui, HI (Pro Shot DVD)

There was a first and second show this day in Hawaii.  This was the common practice of the day with bands having an early and late show (how excellent would that be).  I do not know if there is any mixing of the two shows in the video?  I do know there is video with bright sunlight, some more cloudy looking, and some with the sun setting (as the video ends in fact) too.  But there is no nighttime video on the DVD so I am guessing this was the early or first show.

Rather than surmise as I was doing in the above paragraph, I went ahead and hooked up the drive with the Hendrix recordings of both shows and confirmed things.  This is definitely the first show!  Interestingly, the show doesn't end like it does on the DVD.  On the DVD it looks as if there is a reprise of "
Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)."  But in all honesty, the first concert of the day ends with "Ezy Rider" and everything from chapters 16 through 18 are additions to the project.  I'd thought Hendrix ended the show the way the DVD looks like it ends.  That would have been a very cool ending and I'm glad that Mike Parker ended it the way he did.

OK, I found the original information
on T.U.B.E.'s site after a little internet research.  I've not going to re-download the show to get the text file.  Especially since he copied and pasted the important pasts of it on his site like I'm doing here now :-)

TAKEN FROM ORIGINAL TEXT FILE (Copy & Pasted):

"This an amazing document of the Rainbow Bridge Concert, made by Mike Parker, with almost all of the available concert footage plus some great filler footage, all synched to the soundboard audio. A true piece of art!

Sourcing info, to give credit where credit is due:

I made this. It is the 25 minutes of Rainbow Bridge Jimi Hendrix footage, 20 minutes of outtakes, and the Strange Day On Maui footage (about 10 minutes), all re-synced to the songboard audio. The songs are full-length, although the film footage is not. The gaps are filled in with Maui footage, 60`s stuff, surfing footage, and Strange Day On Maui footage.

The audio is the overdubbed-drums source, the only one available, so the drums are out of sync a bit. It's hardly noticeable though. Hope you all enjoy it.

Mike Parker

About this project: Originally all I was going to do was sync the 20 minutes of silent outtake footage (end of Hear My Train>Voodoo Child>beginning of Ezy Ryder). But after that was done, I thought, well, why not continue with the movie footage too? The audio on RB was pretty poor. Then there was the Strange Day On Maui footage to deal with. Univibes magazine had an issue about silent Jimi footage that gave me a good reference guide to what was being played during all that double-image footage, so that was a huge help. Ezy Ryder & Message To Love footage was just too dark or had too much double imaging to be able to really sync it up. There's enough there to get an idea of that's going on though.

I wanted to keep the songs full-length, so began to think about what to use for filling in the gaps. There was some nice footage in RB of the people walking to the concert, some skinny-dippers, volcano footage, and film of Jimi's girlfriend Pat Hartley wandering around Maui. Plus lots of great surfing footage. Love that surfboard-cam shot!

So I used all the RB footage I could, then went looking for footage at a video store. Hawaiian Paradise was a cheesy travelog video, has some nice volcano footage with beautiful sunrises, and that great 1940's Maui footage. Endless Summer has one chapter on Maui, that footage is from 1964. check out that spill where the cameraman gets bonked in the head (& the surfing babes). Easy Rider, well that's all the actual motorcycle riding footage from the movie. The 60's protest/Vietnam footage fit perfectly in the large gap during Hear My Train A'Coming. I also used all the non-Jimi footage from Strange Day On Maui as a tribute to Duff Hendrickson, who filmed the actual footage.

this project was made on an eMac, using Final Cut Express. My very first video project. I think it turned out well. By the way I am a long-time Jimi Hendrix collector, if anone out there has any unreleases/uncirculated film footage, recordings, or photos gathering dust, I would love to hear from you. Doesn't matter if the audio is poor or if the film/photos are grainy, it's all worth checking out.
Any Jimi is good Jimi. Same goes for John Coltrane audio, ect. You can contact me at jimiclones (at) yahoo (dot) com."

Whew!  What should have taken an hour or 90 minutes tops has taken a few hours already!  I should be use to that by now though.  I'm not going to half way do something if I can avoid it and if it takes longer to make it more accurate, helpful, and complete; then I'm happy to do it (and happier to get it done).

So now that we all know what the story is here, and for the most part what we want to know, it's time to upload this gem so you can download and enjoy it too!

UPDATE (2015-02-12:
I'd originally stated this concert was from the first set out of two on this day in 1970.  But it actually is a mix of both sets now that I notice the setlist and songs in them as I prepare the upload of the SB/AUD group matrix.patch project I am uploading.  So I just wanted to make a fast update over here to clarify this!

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Journey: 1974-05-XX Sausalito, CA (FLAC_SB/Studio/FM BX_1 CD)

This is an excellent copy of a show with a few dates that have been passed around through the years.  For a long time, 1974-05-27 was the date given for this studio recorded with a small audience and soon after FM broadcasted show.  But then that date became the date the program was actually aired on reportedly and then 1974-05-12 was introduced as the actual date of the recording in the studio.  But again, that was reported as the (or maybe "an") air date too.  The show was likely aired a few times and I have a low resolution newspaper ad of air dates included in the upload and at the bottom of this post.  I cannot read it with my vision but maybe you can?

So the actual date is not really known for this studio recording but it is believed to be in May of 1974 when the actual small audience studio recording was made.  All thanks goes to Jerry for this copy of the show he got and worked on and I am uploading now!

I've had a few copies of this recording over the years.  The first is my silver CD Gypsy Eye label copy titled Original Cut that I got from Japan around 1998.  I may do a little comparing later and see if it sounds any better.

It's been a long time since I've listened to the Original Cut copy and I'd need to rip it with EAC to my hard drive and run some TLH tests on it since I have come across a few Gypsy Eye label releases in the last couple of years that were lossy.  In fact, they took a lossy Journey show (all that has surfaced so far of the 1978 Texxas Jam soundboard) I'd worked on and uploaded here.  I shared it on one other site besides my own and within a week or two it was released and being sold by Gypsy Eye and being shared on lossless sites too!  And it was my copy I had remastered without any doubt.  Gypsy Eye knew it was a lossy copy when they downloaded it and put it to silver disc, but they did what they did anyhow.  So my respect for them has deminished somewhat.  But I'll check the copy I got in 1998 titled "Original Cut" because I know it has a more comlete introduction than this copy I am uploading now.  No big deal, but it's worth looking into later and comparing copies.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1973-01-22 Southampton, England (FLAC_SB/Multitrack_2 CD)

This has to be the best sounding multitrack of this show I have heard.  Liquid Led has a mix that really brings the various instruments and vocals out in this copy of the show.  To me, it beats all of the other multitrack copies I've heard for the Southampton 1973 concert.

Rather than try and explain what multitrack means, I'm posting a link that explains it.  If you have any interest in reading up on what it refers to you can check out this Wikipedia link for details.

When comparing this to the Tarantura, EVSD, Godfather multitrack mixdown, and another multitrack recording or two, I was really happily surprised at how much cleaner this Liquid Led mix was.  All copies sounded excellent.  But to my ears, this one sounded better than all of the others including the copy of the show I uploaded here in the past.  I am a big fan of the Winston Remasters copies of most shows.  He really has an ear for great sound I feel like.  And in the past, the Winston Remasters copy of this 1973-01-22 Southampton show was what I considered to be the best sounding copy.  But I really think Liquid Led's copy, one I recently got I might add, comes out ahead in the end.
All copies will have some variations in various parts of the show where the sound changes (for the better and worse).  This is no fault to the labels or people working on creating the sound we get in a download like this.  This was done at the time the show was recorded and by the original recorders of the show.  You hear the same changes, say a volume fluctuation for instance, in all recordings.

One thing is for sure.  No matter what label or copy of this soundboard you have, unless someone has just ruined it messing around with it, you'll have a great sounding show.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Grateful Dead: 1972-11-22 Austin, TX (FLAC_SB 1st Gen Reel_3 CD)

I know very little about the Grateful Dead and have not really listened to a lot of their music through the years.  It isn't that I don't like them or anything like that.  While I may not know the names of their songs, I can usually pick one out when I hear it.  But thanks to FM radio, I likely have only heard their commonly played songs because I've never bought any of their music other than on CD I bough for a friend as a birthday gift over 10 years ago.

I'm uploading this excellent soundboard tonight for a few reasons.  One reason is, it's something different for me.  But it's also nice sounding as I listen to it on the PC's Bose speakers as I prepare it.  I like to change things up sometimes and listen to something I've never heard and have no real idea of what to expect from it.  And this show fits that category tonight!  It has excellent stereo separation and a bluesy county kind of sound to it and is sounding very nice right now.  Also, this was shared on Dime just a few hours ago and it was easy to get and prepare for uploading here too.  Thanks goes to "helm555" for sharing it on Dime.

These notes were in the text file:
-- All disc changes are seamless
-- This source has the drop out in Brokedown fixed
-- Thanks to David Gans for supplying the Dat
-- There were fades after most of the tracks which sucked
-- This is the same source that circulates but is a better transfer/mastering

The sound changes a little at times and a little more hiss is present and then disappears on the recording.  This seems to just be at the beginning of the show.  I'm well over halfway through the concert now and the sound is very pure and stable and has been trouble free as far as I notice.  Even when the hiss is present, it is not bad at all.  It also was mentioned in the post on Dime that the first song in the show, "Promised Land", is missing.  I'm not sure why?

Since I know little to nothing about the Dead or this show, I'm not going to make up stuff to type here.  The show sounds excellent-to-superb and if you are a fan, or if you just want to check out something different too and like awesome recordings, then you will like this one.

I have a few Zeppelin shows I promised to upload and I also plan on uploading some Hendrix shows too real soon.  This is just a different kind of upload I felt like making.  If you want to hear more Dead, then let me know over on Facebook or in a comment here.  I have about four or five shows of them (all 1960's to 1970's) and there are a lot more out there that are available.  In fact, there are tons available but I just haven't collected many.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Journey: 1973-12-31 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_SB_1 CD)

It was 41 years ago overnight that Journey closed out 1973 in their first ever concert and brought in a new year to San Francisco and new career to the world that is still alive today.  And this is the recording of that show.  I love what I am guessing is Bill Graham's introduction of the band before they start playing too.  It was very prophetic you might say!

This is a superb recording but it also has some flaws unfortunately.  For some of the earlier part of the show there is a high pitch tone.  It seems to come and go and even be in the background a lot more quietly at times too.  After a little bit, it seems to disappear and there are a few other tape issues and various poor transferring related problems I'd guess.  Either that or the tape this audio came from had a lot of play and wear itself.  But it still is a excellent sounding recording and it isn't too hard to put up with the flaws if you enjoy the music.

A number of these tracks in the show have been unnamed or even wrongly named over the years since some never appeared on any officially released materials.  I can say without a doubt that one of the rarest songs, track 5, is titled "Can You Feel Me".  How do I know you ask?  Gregg Rolie, the song's writer told me in May of 2006 when I met him.  He was very cool and answered a lot of questions I was asking him.  He wasn't trying to push me or my friend off, took a few shots (phjotos I mean) with us, and was really nice and intelligent.  He had a sharp memory when it came to recalling the early days I could tell.  I had heard the song ("Can You Feel Me") on a studio outtake recording many years earlier and only knew part of the lyrics because the studio recording wasn't very good or clear (at least my copy wasn't at the time).  I barely started quoting the lyrics to Rolie and he immediately said "Oh, that's 'Can You Feel Me'."  He wrote it down for me and I just double checked to make sure I had it right.  I only know of this song being on two or three recordings and this is one of them.  The quality and sound in the recording also seems to be a lot better at this point in the show and the high pitch tone has disappeared.

There are a few unique things about this historic show besides the 1973/1974 first show information.  Journey only did one show with a drummer named Prairie Prince.  It was the band's very first show (this one) and then they replaced him with Aynsley Dunbar.  He must not have made the cut even though he sounds great in this show?

Another interesting fact I might not would have believed had I not seen it on video has to do with the origina; member who is still with the band today and still playing bass.  I'm talking about Ross Valory.  He also played piano in the early shows.  Standing right next to Gregg Rolie as he was jamming on the keyboards you can see Ross Valory banging away too on keys.  I have two 1974 DVD's of the band at this same venue, Winterland Ballroom, and he is doing it in both shows on certain songs.  I would have never guessed.

And last but not least, there is an additional member Journey had for a very short time in their early days also on guitar along with Neal Schon.  George Tickner was the band's second guitar player for a very short (about six months) time frame.  Neal Schon was so far ahead of his time musically speaking and talent wise.  I imagine that having a second guitar player might have forced him to slow down a little and could have had something to do with why Tickner was not kept?  But once again, I don't know because I wasn't there.

The tape goes back and forth between a superb sound and then a less than superb sound throughout the short 40 minute show.  It sounds to me like the cassette tape in the lineage is where the problems entered.  Some of the sounds heard sound like a less than stellar transfer of a tape on a machine with heads needing cleaning or demagnetizing.  I think there is likely a better copy circulating and I'll keep looking.  But since there is not a high demand for these excellent, early Journey shows and even a lot of the Steve Perry era shows are hard to find in something other than a shameful mp3 format, it may take a while.

Happy New Years to everyone.  Let's hope 2015 is a great year for all of us as well as the surfacing of some new, great music too.  God bless you!

I hope you enjoy the show...
