Pat Benatar: 2012-08-25 Dallas, TX (FLAC_AUD_Source # 3)

Here's a great, front row, right side of stage recording of Saturday night's Pat Benatar performance.  This is not my recording of the show.  I did record with two separate digital recorders but have not done too much with the files yet.  I'll upload them (Journey and Loverboy too) soon.

Thanks to "Tapehead2", over on Dime, for uploading her versions of the three concerts.

I'm not a Loverboy fan at all.  They have a few good songs I admit, but they were never my cup of tea.  I really did want to see Pat Benatar because I like her, she's had some great songs through the years, and she had her original guitarist (i.e. her 30 years married to husband Neil Giraldo) on this tour.

Being a Led Zeppelin music lover, I really liked the way this show ended.  Pat Benatar's band played their hit song from the late 1970's, "Heartbreaker", and Neil finished it off by transitioning into Led Zeppelin's famous 1969 song "Heartbreaker".  It was not the whole song from Zeppelin of course.  But what a way to close out their show :-)

While the venue could've had better sound, it was still good and the concert was great.  My buddy, digitaljourney, and I had a great time at the show.  And I was glad to have finally seen and heard (not to mention RECORDED) a live Pat Benatar show!

This tour, the "Three Lock Box" LP tour, was my first real introduction to Sammy Hagar's music.  There are songs on this 2 DVD set that I haven't heard in 20+ years.  It's a great performance, with the 1967/68 red Firebird on stage, and the song selection is superb.  It brought back some memories just hearing the tracks :-)

Enjoy the show...

The Eagles: 1976-11-06 Houston, TX (Pro Shot DVD)

This is a great concert, and it is also a great upgrade to earlier versions of this show that have surfaced.  I started out with a 1 CD (audio only) recording of part of this show in the 1990's.  I didn't even realize it was on video until about ten years later.  And while the video was a great upgrade to the 1 CD audio version I had, and it was the complete show too, it still was not the best quality.  This upgrade, which I saw surfacing about two or three years ago, is great.  Work has been done to correct the audio and video issue the older copies had.  The source this video came from is a lower generation (better) copy than my original video copy too.

The band, as usual, puts on an excellent show.  This is reportedly one of the seven 1976 to 1977 Houston Summit shows that were filmed under contracts with the venue.  I have a number of these shows (Kansas, Queen, etc) in my collection, and baring if there is any truth to the Led Zeppelin 1977 Houston Summit having been filmed, this is the show from the set of seven I have watched the most.

Between songs, as seen in all of the pro shot earlier versions, there is usually a black screen for up to a minute or two.  This isn't the case in just this Houston Summit 1976 The Eagles show.  It's the case in all that I have seen.  However, in this upgraded copy I've uploaded, someone took the time to add various pictures from The Eagles (audio is still heard on DVD) to fill in the "black gaps".

I hope you enjoy the show...

Journey: 1979-04-18 Tokyo, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here is an excellent 1979 Japanese tour Journey show I got from a Japanese trader a while back.  It is really a great audience recording.  And of course, it was (and is) a very good show by the band too.

I have no idea what the lineage is on this show/source, but it sounds like a very low generation copy with good bass and highs so you can enjoy turning it up.  I can find no artwork for the show right now, but since it does have a name, I'm wondering if it may be a Gypsy Eye label CD.  They put out a number of good Journey shows (I have a few silver CDs from them myself).

This is a great show, and in fact, it was Journey's third and last last show in Tokyo on their Japanese leg of the Evolution 1979 tour.  The crowd enjoys the show, but they do not sound very large (like at some other Journey Tokyo shows).  The bootlegger does an excellent job of keeping silent, and as always, the Japanese crowd is quiet and respectful during songs.  The concert can be turned up loud and has a great mix of bass and high end ranges on instruments and vocals.  This one is a must have for Journey fans!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-04-24 San Francisco, CA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

This has to be my favorite (at least one of) Led Zeppelin 1969 show.  This show has circulated on many labels through the years, but this silver CD House of Elrond "Definitive Remastered Edition" copy is definitely the best sounding source in my opinion.  I've heard many other great versions, but they seem to lack some of the low end audio sounds this one has.  The full, clean, "being there" audio is the greatest I've heard so far.

I got this silver CD copy around 1998-2000.  The record store had CD players in it, and as soon as I checked it out, well; I checked out with it :-)

DETAILS:
Band: Led Zeppelin
Location: San Francisco, California
Venue: Fillmore West
Date: April 24th, 1969
Label: House of Elrond
Title: Fillmore 69 ("Definitive Remastered Edition" on back art and "oh so fine 69" on silver CD)
CDs: 1
Type: AUD (there have been reports this was a SB, but I believe it's just an excellent AUD recording with reportedly two microphones on stage)
Artwork: Yes (scanned outer & inner cardboard case artwork and silver CD too)

Size: 468 MB
Quality: A++

SETLIST: (keeping same names as on artwork and embedded on silver CD)

01. As Long As I Have You
02. You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover
03. Killing Floor
04. White Summer
05. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
06. Pat's Delight

Here are the Dime Contrast Clauses I located for anyone interested in seeing/downloading other versions of this show:

(1)  http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=389817 (Dancing Avocado Supreme is a fan released, 2 CD version with one CD being another remastered copy and the second CD being the original master reel > PCM > DAT unedited copy.  It sounds great but is missing the lower, more bass sounds compared to this Elrond upload I believe)
(2) http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=389130 (is a KRW_Co master > DAT clone copy.  It too sounds great and compares itself to this House of Elrond version I'm uploading.  It states there is known lineage for the KRW_Co version)

Since each listener has their own subjective ratings, likes and dislikes, etc; it is hard to sometimes distinguish and discuss what a person may or may not like.  But I can definitely say that what I really like about this Elrond version is the full sound, room filling low end (the highs are great too), and overall rich sound this CD has on it.

In older versions of this show that I have, I use to have to severely turn down or even mute the part of the show where John Paul Jones' bass amp or cord starts messing up.  But in this copy, you can keep on listening as Plant and Page carry on with their ad lib "You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover" (still part of "As Long As I Have You" of course).  The distortion from earlier copies is gone!  This copy makes me feel like I'm right there at the show.

I'm definitely not demeaning any other versions of this show, and some out there may not agree with my assessment of this recording being the best.  But I definitely feel that it is.  And no matter which version of this show you have or get, they are all excellent!

If you grab (or have) this copy and have made comparisons on it with other recordings of the show, please let me know your opinion.  I'm always interested in what others think of the variations of sources, sounds, etc in music.  And it might help someone decide whether to download this version or one of the other versions in the contrast clause.

Any way you look at it, if you don't have a copy of 1969-04-24, don't wait another day.  You're missing out on an excellent (possibly Peter Grant approved :-)) show from a superb era of Led Zeppelin's history.

Enjoy the show...

Pink Floyd: 1987-11-18 Houston, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here's a very interesting show that it took me right at 25 years to finally find.  And thanks to a few friends on Dime, I now have it!

I was at this show with a friend.  What a great night that was.  While I didn't record the show myself, thankfully, someone in the audience (somewhere) did.  This was my first Pink Floyd concert and it was their first tour after the years of battling that had been going on within the band.  This was the first tour, "A Momentary Lapse of Reason", without Roger Waters in the band anymore.  And it was a spectacular show too.

The seating my friend and I had for this show was astonishing.  I know we were dead center on one of the first few rows.  However, looking at my ticket it looks confusing.  I'm not sure what "Section M" refers to (maybe "Middle"), but I know where we were :-)

It was a miracle that we found our vehicle after the show.  We never paid any attention when parking and there was a ton of people, all parked around the venue.  I think this was a sold out show too.  But by some stroke of luck, we walked out and just happened to walk upon our vehicle (one in a multi-thousand shot).  Sitting in traffic, and even afterwards getting on Loop 610, was a nightmare.  It was hard enough walking to your car and getting out of the parking lot was next to impossible.

I crack up looking at the $20 price tag on the ticket :-)  And those were the days of rising ticket prices too.

A special THANK YOU goes to "led boots" for getting me this 2 CD copy of the show.  Every site I looked at that had this show had either dead torrents or no listing at all for the show.

I'm not sure why the last track, "Run Like Hell", has a scratchy sound in it.  But there is a skipping type of sound.  The song doesn't skip.  I'm not really sure what's up with that, but it is the last song too.

Finally getting this show, just short of 25 years later, goes to show that you should never give up on searching for those concerts you attended but didn't record.  I knew that one day it would be found out there.  And thanks to fellow traders who helped me out, I finally found it!

What a night to remember, and for those who grab this show, I hope you can get close to the enjoyment I had being there.

Enjoy the show...

Journey: 1980-04-12 Houston, TX (FLAC_Pre-FM SB_2 CD)

Here's a great, pitch corrected copy of the whole 1980-04-12 Journey show filmed and recorded at the Houston Summit.  While it was filmed with camera's also, very little video (4 - 5 songs) has ever surfaced from the film of the show.  The recorded audio has also been aired over the radio a few times since 1980 (I've yet to hear it, but in the day good concerts were done this way many times).  But most times, it is not the complete show aired and it has been formatted to fit into the time-frame of the FM broadcast slot too

This is an excellent sounding show and performance from Journey just one year before they hit "super-stardom" with their "Escape" album in 1981.  While us traders have shared everything from VHS tapes with horizontal lines across the screen to early DVD-/+R copies of the 1981 Houston Summit video through the years, the need for those bootleg copies of the 1981-11-06 (1 1/2 years after the show being uploaded here) audio/video have disappeared since Journey officially released that show on DVD in 2005 (finally).  If you're interested in buying the Dolby 5.1 surround sound 1 DVD and 1 CD official release of the show from 1981, it is titled "Journey - Live in Houston 1981 Escape Tour" and can be purchased from a number of locations selling officially released items.  It's super easy to locate and is on the Sony label.  I strongly recommend buying a copy (and it has bonus promos, features, etc from Journey too) and supporting your favorite artists of all types (whoever they may be) at the same time!

Through the years, ALL of the bootlegs of this 1980 show being uploaded today have run slightly slow.  The pitch needed adjusting for the show to run just like it would've live.  And thankfully, we now have a lossless quality (FLAC) version of the show running just at the right speed (this 2 CD upload) thanks to fellow traders/collectors who took the time to correct the show's audio.

If you like Journey, well, you will want to get this show!

I do have another (a few actually) recording of this show that is straight from the silver CDs.  It is titled "Superstars In Concert" (from the "Superstars In Concert Series" radio broadcasts back in the day).  It is an A++ Pre-FM soundboard recording too and it has extra tracks not on this CD set from the interviews with Steve Perry and other Journey members from the night of this 1980 concert.  It is incredible sounding.  But, as with other non pitch corrected versions of this show, it is running just a little bit slow.  You might not notice it if you didn't have an ear for music (or even if you did...I missed it for years) or ever been told.  And if I can ever get it pitch corrected, I guarantee you I will be uploading it.  While it is superior in sound and has the extra interviews included, don't let yourself be discouraged by this recording because it is excellent too!

By the way, the background image I'm currently using here on my site is from the Fort Worth Tarrant County Convention Center show from 1980-04-10.  That's just two days before the show I'm uploading.  I hope one day a bootleg of the Fort Worth show will surface!!!

Enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-01-26 Boston, MA (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here is an incredible show from Led Zeppelin from a very early Boston show.  This recording is excellent considering it was audience recorded in 1969.

Page's guitar stands out loudly from the beginning and carries on through the show.  And there is great JPJ bass and Bonham drums to the show too.  Plant sounds incredible vocally also.  However, the person recording had to have been more on the "Jimmy Page side" of the venue.  This is one of those shows that you can hear Page above all else, and man, does he play perfectly this night.  He adds a lot of extra guitar to the beginning, middle, and end of most songs.  Plant can be heard quiet well, but when you have a "Communication Breakdown" or heavier song, he gets lost (hearing him) by being covered by the instruments jamming.  I love this show!

I downloaded the Ramble On Zep site's artwork for the front and folded center (back side of front) artwork rather than scan mine.  Then, I scanned to image the back artwork I got in my 1999 trade for the show.  The back, even done very well on glossy photo paper, is colored in a way that even people with excellent vision may have a hard time reading parts of it.

Ratings are very subjective, but due to factors besides sound (i.e. a very clean soundboard), considering the time it was recorded and the overall quality and performance, this really should be rated an A++ show altogether (in my opinion).  The A++ rating I'd like to give it is based on how much I love this recording :-)

I don't see that any version of this show exists/did exist by searching Dime.  But if I did miss any other uploads of this date, please let me know and I'll add a contrast clause on Dime.

Anyways, crank this one up and let it play loud.  I promise, you won't regret it.

Enjoy the show...

Garbage: 2012-04-22 Frisco, TX (Bootradr Master AUD Shot DVD)

While Edgefest 22 (22nd year) in the D/FW metroplex had a terrible line up of bands this year, two bands stood out and I considered enjoyable.  All others were a total waste of time.  Evanescence and Garbage put on good shows, and as would be expected, their performances came at the end of the day/night.

There were a few issues with recording both bands.  The wind was blowing pretty good and I did not remember to bring my foam microphone guard to place over the Zoom H4n microphones.  So, on both shows, the Zoom H4n did not get a good recording.  I was also recording with a Zoom H2 and it didn't do any better of a job because it was in standby mode (I messed up).

This event was held in the FC Dallas Stadium/Pizza Hut Park Stadium venue.  Picture an outdoor American football stadium and you know what the venue looked like.  The sound on the north stage, the one Garbage played on, was the better sounding stage (or the main stage).  However, with the Zoom H4n's audio not being good enough to overdub on this video, and with the Sony camera's microphone not being good for recording concerts, there is some crackling throughout a lot of the show that I can't do anything about.  It's not the record popping, loud type, but it annoys me that it's there.

So here's a rundown on the Garbage show details, DVD details, and lineage details.

I tried to build a regular DVD with Adobe Premiere Pro CE5.  I wanted one with menus and other features.  But being new to this program, I ran into issues that I still haven't resolved.  So in the long run, I just created the DVD without menus but I did add chapters between each song.  Even though a cheaper program I have, AVS, would allow me to do all the things I wanted to do, I didn't want to use it this time because I'd have to output the audio as mp2 (instead of the original AC3) and the resolution/picture quality is better with Adobe's program.

I never use digital zoom because it messes up video.  And I didn't use it here either.  But the picture does get more blurry, due to distance from the stage in the stadium seats, as the day turns to night in the show.  I didn't have issue with people in front of me or talking around me.  That's a plus!

It was a great show that Garbage put on.  And for fans, you should easily be able to enjoy this show.  But it does have it's imperfections and isn't the production I'd hoped to be able to make.

Enjoy the show...

As far as which version (or label) is or isn't better sounding when it comes to this show, I really don't know. I've had this one since about 2000 when I got it in a CD-R trade and have loved it. I really have no other version (yet) to compare it too. But at the time, it was supposedly the best version available (according to older 2000 and previous Zeppelin forums, newsgroups, boot books, etc).

I hope you enjoy it if you grab it...

At the end of " Between The Wheels", on CD 2 track 5, I got one of the security people that came up to me yelling "are you recording the show" a few times.  I tried ignoring him, but finally had to converse with him a little.  He walked away, but was standing there watching me.  So for about 20 seconds, the audio is real muted as I put the microphone down.  After that, it was back to recording again with no problems (other than a question from somebody beside me in between songs...thankfully they waited).  I've had this same thing happen at a few other shows.  But once they mess with you, they usually fade away for the rest of the show :-)  Usually...

I am really blown away by how great this show sounds, not only through the PC speakers but on my home theater system (I'm listening now) too.  All of the instruments can be heard easily and clearly as well as Geddy Lee's voice.

My favorite song of this whole concert is "La Villa Strangiato"!  When Alex Lifesome goes into his wailing guitar solo portion of the song, it sounds perfect!  The crowd is silent too.  In fact, the crowd, as noisy as it seemed being there, was great at not creating the (sorry girls, no offense) "drunk chick" effect :-)  There are some comments, and even a possibly drunk chick part (along with a sober one too).  I say "possibly" because the girl that screams a few times on CD 3 might have just been enjoying the show :-)  But most of that (and there isn't a lot) is on CD 3.

The fact that this was Rush's "30th Anniversary Tour" made this like the recently uploaded Journey 2005-09-27 "30th Anniversary Tour" concert.  What I mean is, there was a large number of songs that covered the older, middle era, and current Rush catalog.  I really love the 1970's Rush too.  And they play quiet a bit of the songs from that era.

Even though, due to my vision, I was unable to see a lot of what was actually happening onstage other than thru the large video screen (and even that was difficult for me in 2004), I could picture the show in my mind.  But just getting this great recording, well, I feel like I can relive the show and picture it in my mind for (hopefully) many years to come.

I really need to see Rush again soon.  And they're coming this month.  I just cannot afford the costs involved right now  You go when you can, you don't when you can't!  You never know???

Enjoy the show, and feel free to create some artwork if you'd like to.  I always welcome it...

This was (I believe) the second time using the Zoom H2 digital recorder, and if I'd left the settings the same as I had them for our late arrival during Cheap Trick's last 5 songs, I think this would have easily been an A+ recording.  The recording is very good, but I think amplifying it by 12 db created a little (how do I describe this?) variation in the recording.  It doesn't ruin it at all, and it still sounds very good.  But sometimes the audio sounds more crisp and clear and others it sounds less crisp and clear. This could also possibly be from me having the Zoom H2 hanging around my neck, on my chest, while holding the microphone from source 2?  I really don't know.  But it's not a drastic, concert ruining type of thing at all.  If I hadn't mentioned it here, you might not have noticed :-)

I was also recording with Sony MD70 recorder with an external Sony ECM-917 microphone, so there is a second source I've yet to edit.  It's on a PC and a backup 2 TB drive, and sooner or later (as with many other shows I've recorded), I'll get around to putting it to CD.

Heart was spectacular and I loved the way the songs sounded right.  It wasn't like their 1985/1986 era shows that had totally different sounding guitar solos, etc.  They were "straight on" (so to speak) in this Dallas show (and the other shows we saw them at too).

I'd include the ticket scan, but it doesn't say "Heart" anywhere on it.  It just has "Journey".  I'll throw it in the torrent upload anyhow.  I also added some internet found, non copyrighted images taken by I don't know who from the show.  If anyone has the time to create any artwork, please do!

I hope those who check it out enjoy the show...

Fleetwood Mac: 1975-09-23 Wallingford, CT (FLAC_SB/Studio Master_1 CD)

This is a great, recently reformed show from Fleetwood Mac in 1975.  Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were pretty new to the band and they were making it big-time at this early stage.  This recording was made with a small audience (I've heard 200 - 300 people, but it sounds like  less to me) in a studio.

This show is one of the best Fleetwood Mac 1975 recordings I've heard.  In between songs, when it's quieter, some tape hiss can be heard.  But it just adds to the quality in a nostalgic kind of way and doesn't interfere with the songs.  And there's good left and right channel stereo separation too.  You don't always get that just because a recording was from a soundboard.

Enjoy the show...
