Journey: 1983-02-28 Kyoto, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here's another show from this night's history 31 years ago.  It's Journey's Kyoto, Japan show.  This is one of the best shows I think they did in 1983 if not the best show.  The sound is awesome as well as the performance from start to end.  If you don't have this one, and if you're a Journey fan, that just isn't right!  Everyone should have this show in my opinion because it's one of Journey's moments captured by a Japanese bootlegger (I'm assuming) that should be heard by all.

After 3 encores, ending with Steve Perry & Kenny Loggins song "Don't Fight It", I may play it again before I have to turn it down!  The more I think about it, this must be the best sounding show from an audience recording of Journey in 1983.  I've got other great audiences not uploaded yet from this tour so I'll have to save my final opinion for some other time.  But any way you look at it, it is awesome.

One reason I haven't uploaded it before is because I thought I already would have done so at some point in the past.  But 31 years after the show, and having ripped it to the PC with EAC months ago, I realized this was the night it was suppose to be uploaded.  It's definitely, in my opinion, one of the best nights we have from 1983 Journey shows.  And if anyone has a better one (or one near as nice), then you should be sharing it too.

I know you'll enjoy this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-02-27 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (DVD_A_AUD_1 DVD)

I'd planned on uploading a version of this show yesterday, it being 42 years ago yesterday, but decided to wait until I could get this copy since it is the best.  Thanks to friends over at R-O for making this one available to me.  This is an excellent quality DVD audio (DVD-A) done by Genuine Masters a number of years back and it contains some extra video of Led Zeppelin from Australia in 1972 I haven't even watched yet.  I've likely seen it before, but at the same time, until I get a chance to see it later today I don't know if there is anything extra I haven't seen or not?

Just from sampling the DVD-A via the PC's Bose speakers after waking up this morning, I can definitely tell this is the best version of this concert I have now.  Genuine Masters did an excellent job of using concert photos, posters, ticket stubs, and other goodies as they display and change frequently on the screen while the high quality audio is playing through your DVD player.  In a review I read prior to getting the show, it was mentioned a few other images from the 1972 Australian dates were also used.  The majority of the reviews (and I didn't get to read them all yet) were stunning and I can see and hear  why now.  I left the sharer's original text file with reviews from Underground Uprising in the upload for those who care to read it.

This is a must have item if you are a Led Zeppelin fan and collector!

I know you'll enjoy this one...

Led Zeppelin: 1972-02-25 Auckland, New Zealand (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

What a great show this would have been to have seen 42 years ago tonight!  I've had this one in my "to upload" folder for some time and today just seems like the right time.  As I was just telling some friends, it was was 31 years ago tonight when Journey played Osaka (click here for download) and it was also 42 years ago tonight ZZ Top played the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth.  I'm not uploading the ZZ Top show until I can throw away the mp3 version of it I have.

This is a great sounding show.  It's starts of with one source's recording where you can hear a friend asking the other one recording, "are you recording"?  The quality drastically picks up in the second track (source) "Heartbreaker" and rambles on through the majority of the show.  Page's guitar sounds up front and he is flat out on fire on this night 42 years ago.  This is a very enjoyable show and I'm listening to it right now.  As I was telling friends, it sure beats watching TV!

 Enjoy the show...

REO Speedwagon: 1978-XX-XX Los Angeles, CA (FLAC_SB/Studio_1 CD)

This was a very cool find earlier today.  It is a small studio show put on by REO Speedwagon in 1978 and a promo for radio stations LP of the small concert was made.  This is excellent-to-superb sounding too.  I didn't even realize it was from an LP (or album) until I read all of the sharer's notes.

Thanks goes to "bobobo" for bringing out this gem!  He saw it at a California record convention.  He told how he had seen it many years ago at the convention and passed on it until he got out to the car and he and his friend(s) were leaving.  He told them to stop, he ran back inside, and he bought it.  I've been there myself before :-)

I never had heard of this rare recording until today.  This isn't some watered down "in the radio station acoustic set" type of deal either.  This is a full blown, all instruments, rock 'n' roll show (at least a 30 minute one).

I wouldn't have known this, but "bobobo" reported this was REO Speedwagon's bass player, Bruce Hall, first recording with the band.  And he's still jamming with them today.

This is an excellent, short show and one I recommend all REO Speedwagon fans grab.  You won't regret it...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-02-14 North Miami Beach, FL (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

I've got a number of versions and labels of this show.  But after listening to bits and pieces of each version (except the 2 or 3 extra CD trade versions I'd have to locate), I came to the conclusion this version sounds best.  It sounds better than the master copy I have as well as the EVSD and a few other no label versions.

I'm not adding anything to this file set and I'm leaving this intact just the same way I got it.  The checksum/fingerprint files all check good and the text file has the information needed to describe the show too.

This is the second Valentine's Day show I've uploaded for this 2014 Valentine's Day.  Two great and awesome Led Zeppelin shows, one from 1975-02-14 Uniondale, NY (39 years ago today) and this one from 1969-02-14 Miami Beach, FL (45 years ago today), are here for your downloading and listening pleasure.

The artwork indicated that this version was from a 1st generation copy of the master tape for this show.  And of course, Tarantura, the Japanese bootleg label, did their own clean up of the 1st generation tape and they did an excellent job before pressing their work to the silver CD's.  I know because I have a clone of the master myself and it doesn't sound as clean as Tarantura's copy or EVSD's copy either.  I think I have a total of 6 different versions of this same source's recording, and to my ears, this Tarantura 2006 release has a much cleaner sound.

Enjoy the show...

This is an excellent sounding show and there are two songs that I have no clue what their names may be?  I've never heard them in any other Feist show either.  Plus, Feist does "Past in Present" too which I haven't heard live in a long, long time from her.  This is one of her longer shows on this tour and is about 20 minutes longer than her show I saw and recorded in Dallas about four months earlier.  And that was a long show too and one of the best concerts I've ever seen!

NOTE: The very last track in the show had a sector boundary error and I padded it using TLH.  As far as lossiness goes, I'm not sure on this show now?  It will take more in-depth analysis I'm still learning to do to determine if this show has any lossy MPEG characteristics or not?

Trader's Little Helprer (TLH) is not a good tool for true determination of lossy properties unless you see "...100% CDDA..." or "...95% mpeg..." on all tracks
across the board in the test results.  If you get results from TLH like the ones I got in my testing of the files for this show, it's a 50/50 chance it is or isn't lossless material you're working with.  See the TLH CDDA Test text file I created and included in the download for the results.

I'm going ahead and uploading this show since I got it on Dime (which doesn't allow lossy material thankfully but it doesn't mean a few can't get through) and it is reportedly from the mini disc recorder master source.  I know on my own recordings I've made with a Sony MZ-70 mini disc recorder over the years, at times, I've had shows I definitely recorded as 44.1 kHz/16 bit WAV files (lossless/CD quality) show up as possibly lossy in the TLH CDDA test I did on them.  I know for a fact I've never recorded any show using the mp3 (or any lossy) codec.  But TLH, a superb tool for many things, is not a good tool for accurate CDDA/MPEG testing.  Too many factors, such as FM radio broadcasts or EQ work, can cause you to get false results many times in TLH.

Personally, I believe this is likely a lossless (CD quality) show because the person who recorded it would be risking losing their Dime membership if they lied and posted an mp3 version encoded as FLAC.  And since the person claiming to have recorded it posted it, it's not likely they'd do this.  Plus, as I mentioned, I've seen my own recordings with a mini disc recorder do this same thing.  But at the same time, I cannot say with 100% certainty either that this is a lossless or lossy show because I didn't record it and I'm still learning to make that type of determination with Audacity.  Either way, the show sounds good and doesn't have any lossy property sounds I can detect by ear.  And many of the tracks did test as 100% CDDA too while others tested different percentages CDDA and three tested as MPEG with high percentages.  Who knows?  If you are able to confirm or deny if this source is lossless, CDDA quality, please do and leave a comment.  Otherwise, I'll be checking it again in the future once I've learned more on how to do so.  This is another reason I despise mp3 encoded material.  Prior to their "intrusion" into music and audio fields, everything was lossless and no testing needed to even be done!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-05-26 Landover, MD (FLAC_SB_3 CD)

We might as well keep the party from Landover in 1977 rolling with "Bringing the House Down".  This is my favorite from the four Landover 1977 shows and one of my favorites from the whole 1977 tour.  This makes all four Landover 1977 soundboards uploaded here now.

One thing cool about this show is the addition of "Dancing Days" which Led Zeppelin didn't perform at any of the other Landover 1977 shows (or possibly the whole 1977 tour).  I'd have to do more checking than I care to do to see if they played the song at another 1977 show also.  But it's a song they really did most in their 1972 Japanese shows and not too often anywhere.

Once again, EVSD didn't go the extra mile as they use to on their artwork.  But as I just said in the previous 1977-05-28 show's post, the artwork isn't what we download these shows for either!  Complete artwork scans are in the download too.  And I'm leaving this EAC ripped version the way I got it and only adding my text file, a CDDA test text file, and a new md5 checksum file to the upload.  I really don't have much to say that hasn't already been said,

I'm not sure what the deal is with the way the artwork looks below.  I was just making an update on the site and saw it but I don't think the actual artwork is messed up like the samples below.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1977-05-28 Landover, MD (FLAC_SB_3 CD)

Back when I was sharing the Led Zeppelin 1977-05-25 and 1977-05-30 Landover soundboards, I'd promised to eventually upload the 1977-05-28 (this show) and 1977-05-26 soundboards from those shows too to make a complete set of all Led Zeppelin 1977 Landover, Maryland shows.  Well, what better time to keep that promise than right now?

My favorite of the four nights they played in Landover is the 1977-05-26 show.  I think they were at their tightest and best sound (maybe in the whole 1977 tour) on that night.  So I'll save the best for last (probably next).

All four nights were great concerts with great soundboard recordings from each night too.  So this is upload 3 out of 4.  I may upload the last night (not in order of "by date" of course) later today?  If not, I'll do it sometime soon.

The artwork for this show sure wasn't anything special.  But, afterall; we aren't getting these shows for the artwork either are we?  I included four different tickets I found online for the show, one being a front row seat, and I also included a secondary (or primary) back artwork image that someone added the tabs to so it could be read from a standard CD case.  EVSD must have released this in a cardboard case because their artwork didn't have the side tabs for use in a CD case.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Pink Floyd: 1975-04-26 Los Angeles, CA (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

This is better than a superb sounding recording captured by one of the best bootleggers in the California area.  This is from the master tapes of the late Mike Millard.  He is very well known in music circles because of the quality of his stereo audience recordings from the LA Forum, Sports Arena, and numerous other California concert venues.  To me, this is better than a soundboard recording.

This is another show I really don't need to do much on in order to upload it.  I'm leaving the file set the way I got it and only adding my own text file and md5 checksum file to my upload.

This has to be one of the top ten, best audience recordings I've heard.  Pink Floyd sounds really incredible and Millard's capture of the band sounds stunning.  The mix is perfect and all instruments and vocals are as clean and clear as they could possibly be.  I honestly would think this was a soundboard recording if I walked in on it playing somewhere.  It's that stunning and has to be one of Millard's best recordings.  And he made a lot of recordings too.

It's snowing here today, I have the second CD playing right now, and I'm enjoying being stuck in the house and listening to this show!  I hope you enjoy listening to it too...

Evanescence: 2009-11-04 New York, NY (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent and special show Evanescence did for 1000 lucky fans prior to their 2011 self-titled new release, Evanescence, that eventually made it out 11 months later.  The audio capture of this show is excellent and there is a song in the setlist that I've only heard on unreleased demo recordings.  This is a 2 CD show.  However; if you have software that allows you to overburn and your player will play those type of burns, you should be able to burn the show to 1 CD.  The show runs approximately 3 1/2 minutes over the standard 80 minute CD capacity.

I've pretty much left the file set just the same way I got it back in 2009.  I only created an md5 file, a TLH CDDA/MPEG test text file, and an information text file of my own.  And of course, I did check for lossiness indicators and SBE's too.  There really was no reason to redo what was properly done to begin with.

All thanks goes to "ALANiS" for recording and producing the show!  According to "ALANiS'" text file, they were recording from the "rear of the house" right next to the soundboard.

This was the first, new Evanescence show in a long time.  And it was still almost two year before the newly formed band released their new CD in October of 2011 and started touring again too.

This is a band I really, really like.  The singer, Amy Lee, has one of the most incredible female voices and the songs range from heavier rock to ballad like, slower tunes.  They are one of the most original bands I've heard in years and have been since they made it big in 2003.  Even though the band has changed members a lot through the years (each album at least), they still make amazingly great songs and play the old ones very well.  I only like a handful of new bands today because I feel most modern music has gone off the cliff and is terrible.  But not Evanescence!  They still rock and put on great shows and I've seen them every time (and recorded them too) they've come to my town since 2006.

If you're unfamiliar with the band, I recommend giving them a good listen.  And if you already know who they are and like their music, then you'll love this excellent recording of their secret 2009 show...

Rush: 1974-08-26 Cleveland, OH (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM Master_1 CD)

Here is an superb recording of a very early Rush show from the Agora Ballroom in their 1974 stage of the band's career.  Really, it's from their beginnings.  It's a Pre-FM soundboard master copy and it is their complete show including the song "Garden Road" which was left off of most lesser quality copies in earlier trading years.

No breakdown of the lineage was really given for this source other than it was from the Pre-FM disc master.  But I did the usual confirming of the audio file set to make sure the tracks were CDDA (or lossless) quality and I created my own ffp (file fingerprint) and md5 (checksum) files and verified them too before uploading it.  I also aligned the tracks on sector boundaries since the last track, "Garden Road", failed the SBE (sector boundary error) check in Trader''s Little Helper.

This is by far the cleanest, and as I mentioned also complete, copy of this show I've heard.  Reportedly it is directly from the master recording so it really can't get any better than this.

Rush was a new band and this show, as well as a few other 1974 shows promoted by an American FM radio employee who heard them from Canadian FM broadcasts across the border and contacted them, was part of what launched the band's career into its future rock star status.  Neil Peart, Rush's drummer, had only been a member of the band a month when this show was performed.  Many people think Peart wast a founding member of Rush, but in reality, he wasn't.  He might as well have been for his contribution in writing so many of their songs through the years.  But the first, self-titled album Rush, released in 1974, does not have Peart on it because he wasn't their drummer yet.  What a great addition he made to the new band and such a huge contribution I'm sure nobody could have foreseen at the time either.

I hope you enjoy this very early and superb sounding Rush show...

Rush: 1979-05-28 Offenbach, Germany (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

This is a superb sounding show of Rush in Offenbach, Germany as they were touring in 1979.  I was listening to this Digital Rush Experience/Digital Reproductions (DRE) version and the Rush-Signals Production "Buenas Nochas, Mein Frankfurt" version earlier.  Both versions are excellent!  However, the Rush-Signals Production version may have been slightly better.  It's hard to tell at times.  But there was one problem as I was preparing the Rush-Signals Production version for upload.  It tested as lossy!  Somewhere between the lossless copy and the person who shared it, it had been converted to a lossy format.  It could show lossy results from the EQ work done it it possibly, and disc 1 appears to have very strong indicators that it was an MPEG sourced disc (more so than the disc 2).  So, the DRE version is what I'm uploading today because there is no doubt it is from a lossless, very low generation copy.

I haven't listened to this show in about a year myself.  This show is from Rush's Hemispheres tour carrying over from 1978.

I notice that on the artwork for this show it "Offenbach/Frankfurt, Germany" is listed.  Upom more research, it appears there is some controversy regarding tracks 107 and 108.  There was speculation these tracks were from Rush's Hammersmith Odeon show in London on the Hemispheres tour.  Rush was reportedly doing shorter sets in their shows on the German dates and didn't include these two songs.  The sound man recording some of the shows during the tour was suppose to have told people he gave the show too (and how it was suppose to have made it into circulation) he added those two tracks from the London show.  Whatever the story may or may not be, the flow of the music is flawless and it doesn't change my perspective on the quality or desirability of collecting this one.

I mentioned doing this a few months ago, but as time has passed and nobody left a comment as if they were interested in it, I forgot about it.  But I may upload an excellent 1974 Rush show soon (even today) if there is any interest in it?  I've got a few 1974 shows and have even a few more rarer ones I haven't seen anywhere before that I got from an excellent Rush trader the trading days.  If you have any interest, let me know.

Enjoy the show...

Kansas: 1977-12-31 Long Beach, CA (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of a 1977/78 Kansas concert.  The show began New Year's Eve and ended after midnight on New Year's Day.  The band does the countdown to the new year right before "Carry on Wayward Son".  This recording sounds a lot like a soundboard throughout most of the show due to the clarity and lack of crowd noise.

Kansas: 1980-12-09 Houston, TX (Pro Shot DVD)

I'm uploading this show at the request of another Houstonian friend.  This is a great Kansas show from the Houston Summit nearing the end of 1980.  I've had this show for years and I sort of lost track of it for a while.  It's been a number of years since I've watched it, but that might change later on today when I won't wake up the neighbors.  Ha!  Even better, I'll wait until the Super Bowl starts and they're already hooting and hollering so they won't even hear it cranked up anyhow :-)

While the video bitrate seems a little low to me, the audio is LPCM audio and it sounds (and looks) great!

Kansas had an excellent lineup of musicians at this stage of the band both vocally and musically.  This is another show from the heyday of the Houston Summit too.  I really enjoy these show that sound good, had a great band playing a great show, and they come from my hometown where I grew up but was still just a little too young to drive and go see the shows of interest to me.  But all these years later, so many have surfaced so I can see what I was unable to see as a youngster.  I would've never had any idea back then that one day I'd own a copy of so many shows I missed.  As a Texan would say, "Yee-Haw"!

I hope you enjoy this 33 year old show too...

Bob Seger: 2011-04-16 Atlantic City, NJ (AUD Shot_2 DVD)

Bob Seger is an artist I've always liked but haven't done as much collecting of his show from over the years.  It's probably in part because there aren't a whole lot of them out there.  And some that are do not have the great capture like this one has and a few flat out sound bad (not the show, just the recording of it).  I probably have about 10 to 15 shows of his and about half of them are poor recordings.  I'd really like to get a good DVD of his Houston Summit show from the 1970's as well as his Largo, MD show from 1980 because those two videos have horrible audio in what has surfaced so far.

This upload is a superb quality show that was shot almost three years ago and has been on my hard drive just waiting to be put to DVD.  And since I'm looking for something a little different in the archives to check out for the first time (other than previewing it), I figured this would be a great show to share and watch myself.  The specifications on this DVD build, as well as the previewing of it, tell me the person who filmed the show and built the DVD set did so in the best and highest quality/standards.  I'm thinking they had an unobstructed view and used a tripod due to the stability and superb quality of the video.  And with the LPCM audio stream, they definitely went all out on this one!

I'm not sure how this show fell between the cracks (or folders) on my hard drive and why I haven't checked it out much, much earlier?  All I know is I haven't and I am going to burn it to DVD and watch it sometime today.

Bob Seger is a very talented artist and has been in the game of music making for a long time.  He's written some excellent songs and lyrics that have described life and situations better than most people could have done in an article.  Many of songs tell a story too.  I may not understand or know the story behind some of the stories on a song like "Katmandu", but nevertheless, most of them are songs people can relate to and I like when an artist can do that.  My favorites have always been "Night Moves" and "Beautiful Loser".  I've never had the chance to see him live before.  But since he's touring a lot these last few years once again, if I get a chance, I'm going!

I hope you enjoy the show...
