This is an upgrade to the previously uploaded copy of this same show that I only amplified two years ago.  It may be the same source, one that came from my good Journey friend "Tales", as the Rubicon Reproductions copy.  I just cannot recall right now if they are two separate sources or not.  If I find out there is anything wrong with the above information (or any information) I will update this post with a notation and corrections.

This upload is the copy I sent "techtuts" of the unamplified copy I got from "Tales" I am fairly confident and then "techtuts" remastered the show.  It sounds excellent and I just wanted to share the upgrade with other Journey fans this morning.  It's always nice to hear upgrades of your favorite bands!

The waveform in the show looks perfect with no audio clipping or other issues.  There is some tape hiss but it is not bad.  The high frequencies and the low frequencies both sound very well mixed and it comes together as a really great listening experience.

The audience recording is excellent and the crowd is not an annoyance or issue in the recording either.  You can hear the Japanese clapping on some songs as they like to do as they follow songs many times.  But it isn't a loud sounding clapping and the music is not disturbed and of course is louder too.  It kind of gives you the feeling of being in a seat right there with the crowd up close to the stage.

The artwork I am including is from the Rubicon copy and all I did is add "Remastered" to the front and back artwork.

This recording is not lossy but it may be a 32 kHz sourced recording.  I cannot tell myself without doing a frequency analysis.  But "techtuts" has already done this and confirms it is not lossy.  Don't worry about the strange Trader's Little Helper (TLH) readings.  TLH is an unreliable way of testing audio for lossiness  sometimes.  So if some tracks appear lossy and others state "track cannot be qualified" in the TLH CDDA test in the download, it is nothing to worry about.

This is a very enjoyable show, excellent performance, and it sounds excellent too!  I think this show has one of the better Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain guitar solos in the live rendition of "Wheel in The Sky" that the band ever did.  I still like the Houston 1981-11-06 version the best (probably because I heard it first) but this one is another great one.

The show is definitely an upgrade to what was previously uploaded here two years ago and has a better mix as well thanks to "techtuts'" work on it and his always superb remastering skills.

This is an excellent sounding show and a superb performance by Journey on their Escape LP tour in 1981.  They were back home in California and I think they were feeling pretty good after touring the last couple of months and at this point having the number one album in the country.

I had started a remaster of this show about 1 1/2 years ago but had to stop before I finished.  I knew this show could sound really nice so I wanted to try and work on it.    I later realized something I had been doing wrong in the work I had done and knew I'd have to start from scratch.  So it was put on the back burner for a later date.  But thankfully, I met another real and true Journey fan after that and he has a lot more audio knowledge and understanding than me and knows how to remaster a show without the errors.  And he did this remaster being shared here today and he brought the show to life.  It is a huge improvement over the original audio we both had to work with and it sounds so much better!  I have literally listened to it a few times this week already.

Fortunately, the audio for this show had seemingly not been altered prior to when I got it.  It had a few rough spots such as cuts in the recording and audience noise that needed some real, knowledgeable work on it.  It still sounded great but it didn't sound excellent.  In my honest rating this is likely considered a great-to-excellent recording.  In my own mind, I see it as superb.  The sound in the recording has a consistency throughout it and is stable.  You don't get the "this part sounds good and this part sounds bad" in the recording.  The taper let the recorder tape and only did tape flips with a few (thankfully not during songs) blank spots in the show which I think were introduced during the transfer.  They've been removed of course in this remaster.

You can hear the crowd but they are not interfering with the music.  Even during songs they can many times be heard.  But it is not the type of crowd noise that takes away from the music, you don't hear anyone talking and yapping throughout the recording, and those annoying types of crowd noises do not exist.  The crowd is excited and so is the band and this forms a really awesome show and recording.

Steve Perry and Neal Schon sound spectacular and clean with a full range of sound in their music.  And the rest of the band sounds just as good and you have no problems hearing the music.  The high end frequencies are really sharp and the low end frequencies are steady and present as well.    I was completely blown away by how much better "techtuts" made this show sound when he sent it back.  He did a job that exceeded my hopes and expectations by leaps and bounds really.

I don't want to overplay this audio to the point some non Journey fan gets it expecting a Mike Millard sounding recording.  It is not without some flaws but it is a very enjoyable listen and one I really have enjoyed listening to through headphones as well.  I am surprised at how well the taper did in keeping the consistency in the recorded audio too.  But in my own defense, I like this show and I may like it more than some of you.  Some, and especially anyone never hearing the unaltered version, may not be able to appreciate the sound as much as I do.  But I still don't think you'll be disappointed even if you're not familiar with the previous copy of the show or even a big Journey fan.

This is the complete show for all practical sake.  There are some tape flip spots where a little music gets cut like at the end of "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" going into "Any Way You Want It".  The recording also has the Journey 1981 intro music playing and the outro music too from the tour.  The taper tried to get it all.  And you don't hear this on many of the 1981 shows of Journey out there.  If you have the officially released 2005 Houston Summit DVD from Journey, you'll recognize the intro and outro music from the beginning of the DVD where the menus are pulling up and the DVD is getting to the point where you can make a choice from the main menu.  I think it's cool sounding music myself.

The waveform looks perfect, the sound is great-to-excellent, and the show is spectacular as is the energy of this concert.  I'm done talking and now so it's your turn to see what you think :-)

This show sounds a lot better than the unedited copy does and there are a lot of the little Perry renditions in it too.  The ad lib type of things he would do or sing with his vocals are really one of the Journey signature sounds.

The waveform looks great with no clipping and nowhere maxing out on the waveform either.  There is a small amount of tape warble at the very start of the tape but that disappears immediately and the rest of the show sounds great.  To me, I look at it as sounding more excellent as I continued listening.  No, it isn't an extremely great recording sound wise.  But with "techtuts" remaster you can hear the band and Steve Perry's voice so much better and it is really very clean.

The show is shorter than many of Journey's shows might have been if they had been in the United States or Japan of course.  They were not a well known band in England even though they had toured through Europe in earlier years before Perry was singing for them.  But this was the first time they played in England.

This is a real gem for Journey fans I believe and it is a show that is a lot more rare in collecting circles too.  Primarily, I believe it is because it was not a great sounding recording before.  But now, the high end frequencies are much cleaner and the band can all be heard without much tape hiss at all.  The tape hiss is almost nonexistent but the high end frequencies are still present and it is a very easy show to listen to and enjoy (even loud).

There are some cuts in the show.  "Lovin' You Is Easy" comes in near the end of the song after "Kohoutek" almost ends completely.  It's a shame because there are some different musical pieces in the way the song is played from what is in the recording.  Neal Schon's guitar solo is a little different.  The taper does not cut the tape player off and on like many earlier European tapers did in the recordings of bands in the earlier 1970's either.  There are also a few tape clicks in the final track "Opened The Door" but nothing real bad and they are just there for a few seconds.  There are a few spots you can hear some tape wear too, but again, it is not a very noticeable issue and it doesn't continue on through the show.  This sounds like a low generation copy source.

I asked "techtuts" what he thought of the audio as he worked with it and looked at it.  He believed it was unedited audio and not "reproduced" or altered like most of the Rubicon work was unfortunately.  So this is really good news and another reason it likely sounds a lot better than other copies I had heard, mostly mp3's (bad in their own right too), in the past.

Even though the artwork shows this is a Rubicon Reproductions and One Lone Duck Reproductions recording, I don't think this is actually from either of those sources.  I think they just made some artwork or someone else put the artwork from that copy of the show with this audio.  Either way, I'm including the artwork I got with the show and an extra copy with "remastered" on it too as in the examples below.

I started working on this upload last night on the show's 9th anniversary.  But after reaching midnight before I was done, I just decided to finish it this morning.  But due to some storms coming through and shutting my power off five different times my web browser would not open the tabs I had opened.  And even though I had saved my almost ready post for this show, it was gone and not available after the power issues stopped happening.  So here I am again retyping everything this afternoon.

This is an excellent/superb sounding recording of Journey's second night in Manchester, UK on their 2007 tour with Jeff Scott Soto on vocals.  It really sounds as if Steve Augeri is singing with the band too but it doesn't make sense and it is probably the backup vocals box that bands uses (many if not all of them) all of the time when doing live shows.  This is an excellent sounding show and the band plays some really unique songs in the show from all eras of Journey music too.

A special thanks goes to "techtuts" for sending me the FLAC files after he remastered the show yesterday.  Previously, I'd only had an mp3 copy of the show.  I knew it sounded excellent but I just don't like sharing lossy audio unless it looks like it is all I will ever have.  And even then I hate to do it!

I'm listening to this show all of the way through today as I make this post and it has the old Journey sound to it and I am really enjoying it.

The sound is excellent and borders on superb.  The only thing keeping it from being a superb sounding show is the vocals are not as loud as the clean bass and high frequencies are.  But they are not too low and actually it sounds normal the more you get into the show and get use to it too.  It's barely even a noticeable factor to be honest.

The band may or may not have been lowering the vocals on purpose since Jeff Scott Soto had recently had to finish off the tour when Steve Augeri had some vocal issues and Journey replaced him.  They may have been a little worried he couldn't do as good of a job on the songs?  I don't know.  But I have to admit, he did a great job and I was really surprised how well he knew and sang the songs when I saw them as they passed through my town on this tour.  The really weird thing is it sounds like Steve Augeri is singing in this show too and I don't think it was Deen Castronovo.  It may be though.

The band had a superb setlist here with tracks they did not play (from my memory) in the United States on this tour.  They played old ones like "Mystery Mountain" from the pre-Steve Perry days and others like "Remember Me" (dedicated to Steve Augeri in the show) from the post Steve Perry days too.  They also did a lot of songs played before but not as often like "Line of Fire", "Rubicon", and "Edge of the Blade".  It is a really nice and career spanning set of songs they chose.  And hearing "Opened The Door" in this show is just fantastic.  This should be a staple in Journey shows as should "Winds of March" (not played in this or any other shows since Steve Perry was in the band).

Neal Schon really seems to be playing well on this night too.  The whole band does but he sounds really good and his guitar solos and playing are up front in the show.  The bass really is well balanced in this show as well and it many time is not heard this well in Journey shows.  Ross Valory can be heard perfectly and so can Jonathan Cain on the keyboards.  It has a very nice mix and a sound that really is enjoyable and very Journey.

Journey: 1986-10-10 Richfield, OH (FLAC_AUD Remaster_2 CD)

This is a first time upload here of this Journey show from 1986.  It really has a great mix and sound to it.  This is the October 10th, 1986 concert from the Cleveland, Ohio suburb of Richfield, Ohio.  Many of the Richfield shows get passed around for all kinds of the bands as "Cleveland".  But Richfield is the actual city that Richfield Coliseum was built in.

A very special thanks goes to "Steve7777" for the show and to "techtuts" for the remastering of the audio.  And there are many more Journey shows, some new to the site and some older and remastered, that will be coming soon.

Here's a note worth knowing.  While the Rubicon Reproduction's copy of this show is from the same source, this is NOT that file set.  I am adding the artwork for the Rubicon release but this audio is from the DAT tapes before they were altered by Rubicon (or anyone) for his sharing of the shows.  The excellent remastering was done by "techtuts" and it is a much better sounding project.  I have been very pleased with the skills "techtuts" has when it comes to audio and he really knows what he is doing.

This show has a really nice and clean sound to it.  And "techtuts" did a wonderful job of remastering the show with superb high end and low end frequency ranges coming through very strong and clear.  There is some slight tape warble that can barely be heard in some spots but it does not mess up the recording and the show sounds excellent.

The sound is pretty consistent throughout the performance with not much crowd noise interfering.  There are some points in the show, like during "Who's Crying Now", where the audio sounds as if the microphone got pointed away from the stage.  But it is not very often and it gets back to the excellent sounding audio again soon in these rare cases.  "Who's Crying Now" and "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" are really the songs the audio difference is noticeable in for longer than a few seconds.  The audio does seem heavier in the left channel starting up during "Be Good To Yourself" too and as the show is drawing closer to the end it is not as good sounding as it is throughout the majority of the show up until "Faithfully" is played.  But it is still good audio too even when it is not "as good".  The audio still is an excellent overall recording made even better by the remaster and it is a lot better than I'd thought it would be honestly.  It's the clean range in frequencies and the sound that makes it sound so good.  It is not a muffled 1986 show like so many are.

The show is not without flaws obviously.  But I bet it is the best sounding copy of the show out there and as soon as I get the lineage I think it will be somewhere in the master to first generation range from the DAT tape.

This show was just about four months before the band disappeared in 1987 not to be heard from again (as Journey) until 1996.  After almost a decade, we all thought there was going to be a new Journey tour with the same band members including Steve Perry and Steve Smith.  But that didn't happen and in 1998 Steve Perry was replaced by Steve Augeri and Steve Smith decided not to tour with Journey and was replaced by Deen Castronovo.  And that began the new rendition of Journey which has changed a few times over the years.

There is some good news for long time Journey fans today however.  With the departure of Deen Castronovo in 2015 as the band's drummer, Steve Smith has rejoined!  And on the 2016 tour starting really soon, Journey is doing their first three shows with Santana which is the group both Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie (ex-Journey keyboard player and backup vocals) started out with before they quit Santana and created Journey in 1973.  Unfortunately, the two bands won't be playing together when they make their way to my part of the globe.  Journey will be having the Doobie Brothers open for them by that point and they are a band I have never seen and look forward to seeing.  So it will surely be good and I hope I get to make it once again and record the shows as I have since 1999.

I think any Journey fan will really enjoy this excellent sounding show.  And the band seems really energetic this night too as they jammed out for Richfield nearing the end of an era now long gone.

This is one of my favorite Frontiers tour Journey audience recorded shows out there.  And this copy being shared today is a remastered copy of the master recording reportedly.  And unlike the copy uploaded earlier this year by me on the show's anniversary, this copy is not only better sounding but it is lossless.  It seems the copy found HERE was a lossy copy after all.  This copy is by far the best I have heard and "techtuts" did a fabulous job in remastering it too!

This show we have thanks to "techtuts" continuous searching and making new contacts that helped out with copies of some of the shows we both were looking for.  He was able to get hold of a number of shows replacing some that have turned out being lossy and some neither of us had until recently.  We're both still looking for a few shows and I bet that over time they will resurface again.

This show to me is superb in sound!  But trying to rate it without any bias, it is definitely an excellent to superb recording of the Journey concert.  The crowd is great and even though there is some of the customary Japanese hand clapping during some songs, the audience noise is very little and low.  Songs like "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart" have some clapping throughout the song but it isn't the kind that ruins the song or stands out real loudly at all.

There are a few shows from this Japan 1983 tour that "techtuts" is working on remastering and I will be uploading them here after they are shared on Dime.

As I have mentioned already in previous posts, "techtuts" really knows what he is doing with audio and he has been making some Journey masterpiece remasters and there are more that will be coming soon.  Actually, there are a few I need to get uploaded now that have already been put out.  I'm just running a little behind.

Journey: 1978-09-02 San Mateo, CA (FLAC_SB/FM BX Remaster & Upgrade_1 CD)

What better day to share this huge audio upgrade of this Journey show that occurred 37 years ago today than on its birthday.  This is a big sound upgrade and an excellent LP rip and reworking project my "techtuts" and a small amount of preparing by me.

The real audio work as well as the LP owner was done by "techtuts" and I only tracked the songs, removed the beginning and end LP blank spots, used Audacity to Normalize the Side B audio, and removed one silent gap in "Wheel In The Sky" (after the song was over).  "Techtuts" did all of the audio work and sent me the Side A and B tracks to listen to and finish the easy stuff.

This is the best copy of this show I have heard in the last 20 years.  There are some really poor copies and some that are better sounding as well as more complete too.  There are some mediocre copies too that sound nice.  But this one is far better than any I have heard and you won't even be able to tell it was an LP rip either.

All copies of this show, which was an FM broadcasted show, have an issue I really can't put a name on.  I call it channel fading for lack of the correct terminology.  At points the left channel and/or the right channel seem to drop and rise again in volume.  I'm not sure if all copies of this show have come from the same source?  Maybe it was a source not receiving the FM signal at full signal strength the whole time?  Or maybe it was taken from a cassette that had some head problems or was just old?  And there is always the chance this was an issue in the studio at the time of the broadcast too?  I really do not know.  But the problem is not a show stopping issue like I've heard on some other recordings before.

This recording has great stereo separation and no clipping in the waveform.  And the songs still sound really excellent and I can only hope that maybe there is another source that is an even better upgrade to this one (and the full show) in the future.  But until that day comes around, I have a feeling this may be the best sounding copy thanks to "techtuts" and the work he put into making this available to all of us!

This concert was a benefit concert Journey did for a high school.  It was the Borel Middle School Benefit show and Journey raised $6,000 for uniforms for the school.  Ha!  $6,000 back then probably equates to $60,000 nowadays (just kidding...I have no idea).

I created some artwork for the show back in 2000, but this copy already had the LP artwork too that it came with.  Since the LP artwork isn't really CD artwork comparable for the rear of a CD case I'll include the back cover artwork I created and it is ready to print and add to the back case of any regular size CD case.

I have heard that Monitros Studio had studios in San Francisco and San Mateo, California.  I even looked it up in the past and confirmed it via the web at some point.  This is a show that occurred in San Mateo, California from all the research others and myself have done in past years.  My back artwork does have San Francisco on it however because in 2000 that's where "we" thought the show was performed.

This show has some really cool and more rare Journey tracks too that you do not usually hear very often live.  Songs like "I Would Find You" and "Can Do" are on this copy.  And on the full show, which has the four additional songs but not near as good a sounding recording, "Look Into The Future" was in that part of the show.

The date for this show has been in question also for some time.  Most have settled on September 2, 1978. The setlist is not in any normal Journey concert played type of order either..  When Steve Perry was new in Journey (he joined in 1977 and started performing live around March of 1978), they would start their shows off with a few songs without him singing.  This show is arranged in that same manner.  I believe he comes in on the third song.  The songs are in a random sounding and different order and I'm not sure how the band decided on what was going to be played in this FM radio concert.  But it's a great variety of songs and a mix of the new at the time Infinity LP songs as well as songs from the pre Perry era of Journey.  Of course Perry, like in the live 1978 concerts, sings with Gregg Rolie on most of the tracks he was never on in the studio released LP's before he was in the band.  It really gives them a completely new life too.

As far as information goes, don't be fooled by the song titles on the album (surely a bootleg sold) listed artwork.  It lists songs like "Next" as "Midnight Dreamer" and we know that is not the right title.  It also shows "Of A Lifetime" as being named "Kohoutek" which is a completely different Journey song altogether.

The LP artwork included came from a previous Dime member upload of this same show.  The artwork is in a high enough resolution I have been able to zoom in and see the text.  Ironically, and four years before "Separate Ways" (1982) was ever created as a song by the band, the back artwork from the LP talks of Aynsley Dunbar leaving the band as Journey and Aynsley "...have gone their separate ways..." it states.  In fact, I just recalled this was reportedly Dunbar's last performance with Journey before they replaced him with drummer Steve Smith .

UPDATE:Dime member "sandpshkr" replied with some local to San Mateo and helpful information regarding the school and possible studio name for the beneficiary (middle school) and studio.  I will research further and see if I can confirm any updates to these and correct them in my post as I research more.  I've already corrected the school name above.  Of course, this update won't be in the text file already uploaded.
