Fleetwood Mac: 1980-05-20 Richfield, OH (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here is an excellent-to-superb Richfield, Ohio show of Fleetwood Mac I'd never heard prior to a couple of days ago.  This one is also a "Slick2007" shared copy.  It's a show from the band's Tusk LP tour.  It is reportedly an upgrade, but since I haven't had it before, I cannot compare it to any other copies.

There are two "after preparation" additions to this post.  First, I was able to find some artwork for this show by doing some web searching.  And it was even listed as an 'upgraded" copy of the show too (not on the artwork) just like this one and the setlist is a perfect match.  I'd say it was made for this exact recording most likely.  I also realized I had embedded the metadata on this show indicating the source was an FM/SB broadcast which is obviously incorrect.  This is an excellent-to-superb audience recording.

The Richfield Coliseums, steeped rich in musical history including concerts from Journey and many other 1970's through 1980's bands, is no longer in the
Cuyahoga Valley where it once stood proud in this once rural area of Ohio.  I did a little reading up on the venue and learned of not only its rich music and sports history but of its ties to President Ford who had vowed to veto plans for the structure in his 1970's presidency.  He backed down in the end because he was worried about losing votes due to the support for the coliseum.  I'm still confused as to what a president had to do with a coliseum in a state, but I might do some more research and find out the details.  It was interesting nonetheless reading the history I did read on the land and coliseum.

This is another unverified lossless source recording too.  The Trader's Little Helper test results cannot be counted on and they are all over the place.  A true frequency analysis and spectral analysis are needed to make this determination.  The source sharing this show, "Slick 2007", seems very headstrong and dead-set in making sure recordings are lossless just like I am.  So I hope he has done the confirmation work because it is something I still have a hard time reading the results on (a lot due to my vision) or I'd be doing it myself.  I believe this likely is a true lossless "Fleetwood FLAC" recording but I cannot prove it now.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Sheryl Crow: 1997-06-21 Loreley, Germany (Pro Shot DVD)

While I'm not a big Sheryl Crow fan, I sometimes like to check out some of her music.  She is talented, has a great voice, and at times has a great band and songs too.  So I'm uploading this excellent quality DVD of her performance in 1997 at the Loreley Open Air Festival in Germany.  I'm not sure if this festival was a WDR Rockpalast broadcast or how they fit into the picture.  But they obviously do.

This is not the copy of the same show just recently shared on Dime.  It's the same show, but it is a much sharper video from what I can see.

This show is a nice capture of Crow before she was real famous.  She had a following I know, but she hadn't hit that 2003/2004 stardom she later reached.

I'm getting the second VHS > DVD build source I saw earlier today to compare the two.  It looked blurry from the screen shots, but at the same time you cannot always rely on screen shots either.  I do notice an occasional flaw (likely from using a terrible program like Nero to make the DVD) sometimes in the picture on this very sharp copy I've had for years and am uploading now.  Lines can be seen, and not the tracking kind of lines but more like poor resolution or rendering types, in certain parts of the video.  Don't get me wrong.  It still sounds and looks great.  I'm just mentioning some of the flaws so everyone can be aware of things before downloading the DVD.

I will try and upload some more shows today if I can find the time.  I seem to be having more time than I want lately so chances are good I can upload some more later today.  And I obviously did not make any changes to this upload at all.  It is the same way I got it and I started the upload before writing this post because it contained a decent info file as well as everything needed.  And the files checked out fine when testing them too.

I hope you enjoy the concert...

Jimmy Page: 1988-09-14 Austin, TX (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_2 CD)

This show is the Jimmy Page 1988 Austin show I mentioned in the last post and it looks like I'll have time to get it uploaded today.  Like the previous show and really all of Page's solo shows in 1988, this was the tour for his Outrider LP.

A buddy of mine taped the Dallas show and I have a first generation transfer of that show on CD-R.  I'm trying to get his master cassette or the 1st generation VHS transfer he made of it to do a fresh transfer.  But right now, he isn't sure if he has that show or the 1988 Robert Plant show he recorded also.  Within a month or so of the 1988 Jimmy Page show, Plant played Dallas too.  And my buddy recorded both shows.  He loaned the masters to a good friend of ours.  So if they aren't in my buddy's possession currently, he still should be able to get them back for the fresh transfers (I hope).

I wish I had been able to make all of the Texas Jimmy Page shows on his solo tour.  But I only got to make the Houston Robert Plant show and none of the Jimmy Page shows in 1988.  Looking back, I'd have quit my job and made sure I was at the three shows.  But hindsight is 20/20.  That's easy for a blind guy to say isn't it?  Either way, those days are over the hills and far, far away now and there is nothing that can be done about them anymore.  But it sure is nice to hear these awesome recordings that others who were lucky and smart enough to make the shows got.  And we can listen back to and relive the moment whether we were able to be there or not thanks to these tapers!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Jimmy Page: 1988-10-26 East Rutherford, NJ (FLAC_AUD Master_44/16_2 CD)

This is an excellent recording of the Jimmy Page concert and all thanks go to "Drgiggles1" for this one.  They recorded the show and did the transfer of it too as well as shared it "to boot".  They reported that they've heard there may be as many as 4 sources for this show.  But I've only got this one so far and I like it.

I'm lucky to have this one copy actually.  I try backing up my hard drives, and sometimes in triplicates, to avoid the issues we've all had where we've lost data when a drive crashes.  But in this case, I had two 3TB drives go out in one week.  I have been able to salvage very little of the data (so far).  But as I transferred this show's 96 kHz/24 bit copy I originally had got, there were about 3 tracks missing and the drive quit letting me transfer data (it was very sporadic).  I didn't notice until this morning that I had down sampled a CD standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit WAV file copy into another folder inside the 96/24 download.  And it was complete with all tracks!  So I was fortunate enough not to have lost the show after all, at least in the most common lossless CD standard format, and I'm sharing it with those interested today.  Now for the other 2.xTB of data...and I'm working on it (and that's just one of two drives but the other was almost fully backed up)!

I started to upload the 1988 Jimmy Page Austin, Texas show a few days ago but got sidetracked before doing so.  I have it ready to be prepared and then uploaded, so I'll upload it too if I have time today.  It is a nice sounding recording and I actually like it better (for a few reasons) than this recording.  They're both excellent, but I'm partial to Texas shows, the venue was indoors, and the sound is better in a way I can't really describe (at least to me).

I hope you enjoy the show...

Robin Trower: 1994-11-25 San Juan Capistrano, CA (AUD Shot DVD)

This is an great-to-excellent DVD of a Robin Trower show shot from right in front of Trower.  In fact, you can see him look at the camera as he starts the show and he smiles at it.  This video was shot by Third Eye, the producer of so many of the 1995 - 1998 Jimmy Page & Robert Plant concerts, and it was just a few weeks short of 20 years ago from the time of this upload.

I though at first there was no singing in this show.  That was until I looked and noticed there is a singer but you just cannot hear him since the camera is in front of Trower's stack of amps.  But that makes this an even cooler show and one that is different because it highlights Robin Trower very well and just the music too.  There is some slight distortion at times, the left channel seems a little louder, and there are other audio issues due to where the the person filming was standing and probably their recording gear settings also.  But to me anyhow, this is still and enjoyable and easy to watch show from the front row.  It's an excellent video capture with a great-to-excellent sound at times.

I need to reconfirm the titles of each song and plan on doing so as I watch this DVD again.  It's been a while, and while I think they're correct, I need to double check.

This is not your average Third Eye DVD production.  There is no LPCM audio or DVD menus or any of the more professional extras associated with Third Eye DVD's usually.  While I'm sure the Third Eye guy recorded the show, I'm not sure if this DVD was broken down using DVD Decrypter by the party that shared it or if it was an early Third Eye DVD project?  I have a feeling there may be a much better cosmetically speaking copy out there with actual song chapters at the right places, menus, and even artwork and a few other things.

But even if this copy is the only copy put out, it is still an excellent video and show and Robin Trower and band rock out superbly!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Fleetwood Mac: 1977-12-01 Nagoya, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

This is an excellent sounding Japanese Fleetwood Mac show from 1977.  Thanks goes to "Slick2007" for sharing this one!  It is one of those great jobs the Japanese are known for when it comes to capturing and recording a quality performance in a quality way.  I've listened to some of the show on my PC since yesterday, but after I get done with a few things and can listen at home on the sound system later today, I'm going to give it the real (loud) test and I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

It's hard to write a review on a show you still haven't listened to yet, so I'm not going to now.  But I can say this looks like it was done right and sounds like it'll be an excellent show and one I'll enjoy.  The waveform showed no clipping and the audio seems to be unaltered.  I can't say for sure, but it sounds that way to me.

With Christine McVie back in the band now, and Fleetwood Mac on the road and touring, I started to finally get a few of their new shows.  And they are sounding excellent too.  So I'll likely be uploading some more older shows as well as a new show or two also real soon.  And who knows, I might even upload a DVD too?

Mentioning video reminds me of something.  I'm looking for the 1976 Midnight Special video(s) with Fleetwood Mac.  I've got audio of their performance(s) and have seen some really great video of "Rhiannon" but it is in a lossy format on the web.  So I know there is video out there of their appearance(s) on the show.  I just hope someone may be able to help me find it in a lossless format?

I hope you enjoy the show...

Boston: 1987-06-20 Dallas, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Twenty-seven years later, and I still have not ever seen Boston live yet!  This show was my first real chance to go see them but I never got to make it.  Friends, driving up from Houston to Dallas, were going and for whatever the reason was at the time, I could not go.  Not only was it Boston's return to the stage for the very first time since 1979 but it was the second from last Texxas Jam (also called Monsters of Rock) year too.  And I missed them both!

I really want to see Boston even though I lost the chance to see the Brad Delp Boston when he dies in 2008.  Still, I want to see the band and since transportation is always the big issue with me nowadays, I just cannot afford buying two tickets every time I want to see a band and record their show.  But I need to do it with Boston because they're one of the all-time American greats and they're a huge part of rock 'n' roll history too.

Whoever recorded this show really did a great job for most of it.  The recording has flaws but it also is a very nice, excellent recording throughout most of the show too.  I think the second half sounds a little better too up prior to the encore.  If you've ever been to a Texxas Jam, you know just how difficult and almost impossible it was to get a recording this good.  People were loud, it was hot, most everyone was drunk, and it was just not a good environment to record a show in.  But this recording has very clean vocals and instruments making me think this person recording it had to be up close and had to have been slightly away from the main crowd.  You'll hear people talking at some points and things like that.  But overall, the show is great sounding!

I still wish I could go back and redo whatever it was that kept me from going to this show almost 30 years ago.  But since I can't, I'll just have to accept this is the closest I'll ever come to having been there.

UPDATE: I forgot I have a ticket to this show even though I didn't get to go.  I'd have included it in the upload had I remembered it just in case anyone was ever nice enough to create some artwork or wanted a copy themselves for historical purposes (maybe they were there and don't have their ticket).  Anyhow, the ticket scan I'm adding below was not from me attending.  It was from a friend who attended and gave me their ticket about 15 years ago before I ever had a copy of the show!

I hope you enjoy the show...
