Jimi Hendrix: 1970-09-04 Berlin, Germany (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_1 CD)

Today was a great day in rock 'n' roll history.  With Led Zeppelin playing the "Blueberry Hill" show in the Los Angeles area, over on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Jimi Hendrix played this excellent show on this day 45 years ago too.

This is an superb audience recording of the Jimi Hendrix show and one I really love.  I have never had the chance to really listen in the sense of trying to review this show though.  And I am listening to the Led Zeppelin Winston Remasters copy of their 1970-09-04 show I just uploaded before this one right now.  But I may make this a night of music and take these FLAC files of the Hendrix show and finally put them to disc tonight.  And of course, that means I will be listening to it really soon too.  I'll make any updates if need be in this post once I listen to the show.

One thing I like in this show is the fact the track "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" is in this show.  There is something about the music in this song that reaches deep inside and takes me back to the days of being a teenager.  I can't explain it, I just feel it!

From listening to this show via the PC Bose speakers and from looking at the waveform, this is really an superb recording I can tell.  The waveform shows no audio clipping and the sound is very well balanced in the tracks I listened to a little while ago.

I feel bad since I've had this show for some time now but I have never given it the real test and cranked it up.  There are a lot of great shows I have still not heard yet and this is the case with too.  Sometimes, you just don't have or make the time to listen because of everything from responsibilities to keeping up with other shows you are downloading (or uploading) can cause you to put a great show off to the side and eventually forget about it for a while.  There are a million reasons we all do this at times.  But most of us also always come around and finally enjoy the music we got too.

Rather than ramble on here about stuff not even related to this show, I've paused "Blueberry Hill" and I'm examining this recording now.  The mix sounds great and there is little to no distortion either.  Jimi's guitar is right up front and his voice is too.  A lot of the time it sounds like a soundboard recording rather than an audience recording.

I was reading a little on this show and it was stated the people in the crowd weren't really getting into Jimi's music at this show.  And it kind of sounds this way between songs where you don't hear the screaming and hollering like you do in many of his recordings.  The crowd is clapping but it really seems quiet for a Hendrix show too.  But that's to our advantage today I'd have to say.

In the recording it sounds as if there may be a few points between songs the taper stopped taping.  I'm not sure and won't truly be until I listen to this show in the living room in a little while.  Jimi also seems to be going from one song to another with no talking in between on a lot of the songs.  Maybe the crowd wasn't keeping him interested and he just decided to do this rather than make comments and statements?  Keep in mind though that I am basing this on checking out certain tracks and the transitions between songs and not from having heard the whole show yet (or recently).  I may be wrongly stating this?

Thanks to "susep73" over on Crosstown Torrents for posting the links to the two photos (below) from this concert being shared here.  And thanks to my buddy Dave for telling me about them!

I'm going to get this one uploaded so I can do it before the 5th of September hits and it's no longer this show's birthday anymore.  I can say this with confidence in closing.  If you are a Jimi Hendrix fan, you'll enjoy this recording.  I can't wait to hear it myself in about 45 minutes!

I hope you enjoy the show...
