Led Zeppelin: 1969-01-23 Boston, MA (FLAC_AUD_1 CD)

Forty-six years ago today, a new band named Led Zeppelin played the Boston Tea Party.  They played two sets but we only have the first set from that historic night.  I uploaded another copy, a first generation one, not too long ago that can be found here on my site.  But I figured I'd upload the Empress Valley Supreme Disc (EVSD) label's copy today.

This is Led Zeppelin's first show in Boston and their first of four nights they played in a row. This night, 1969-01-23, and the 1969-01-26 show which was the fourth and last night are the only nights to have ever surfaced.  And I have both nights here on my site too if you want them.

EVSD did a good job on this show and did not clip the audio either.  The waveform looks great!  Page's guitar is screaming as loud as Plant's vocals are (and he hits some screaming, high notes this night).  And Bonham's drums as well as John Paul Jones' bass are all mixed well to form an excellent recording too.  This is a spectacular performance and night!

The band's first album, Led Zeppelin, had just been release about two weeks earlier and they were on fire.  These early shows of them coming out of the starting gate show what a force they were musically.  Nobody had any real idea what a powerful musical influence this band would become at this point.  But the crowds, selling out the venues already, knew something was going on and they wanted to be there to see it and be a part of it.  I can only imagine what it must have been like on this night.

I've seen reports, however I have no idea how credible they are, that the second set was recorded too.  But if it was it has never surfaced yet and I can't imagine why not.  I can only hope that it was recorded, it sounds great, and it surfaces someday soon so we can all enjoy it.  But until (or unless) this happens, we still have the first set from the concert that was 40 years ago tonight to crank up and enjoy thankfully.

I hope you enjoy the show...
