Led Zeppelin: 1971-09-29 Osaka, Japan (FLAC_AUD 4 Source Mix & Remaster_3 CD)

This is the recent Winston Remasters work and share on the Led Zeppelin 1971-09-29 Osaka show.  I'm listening to the show tonight as I write this review and post.  So it may not cover the entire show since it is so long.  And by the way, and according to Winston Remaster' text file in the sharing of this show, this is the complete show too.

This is one of the most wide spread dates out there in the "bootleg world" and there are tons of sources and versions of this show available.  But being a fan of so many Winston Remasters shows and enjoying his work on them, and the fact this is a new one and I am enjoying what I am hearing so far, I'm uploading it tonight as I listen.

Even though this show is listed as a SB/AUD show many times, it really is all audience reportedly.  For many years one of the sources was spread around as a soundboard recording.  But through the years it was determined to be an audience recording with a microphone on the stage rather than a soundboard (or so the story goes).  I really don't know and I don't care either because the show sounds superb to my ears.  Since Winston Remasters listed it as a soundboard/stage recording for one of the two main sources use in the mix, I just kept it that way too.

LINEAGE:
Main Sources:
(1) Various vinyl sources from trades
(2) From trade labeled "Best Ever" 2nd Gen tape source
Patching/Mix Audio Source:
(3) Source 1 3rd Gen (2 x TDK SA 90 & 60 cassettes) > CDR(3) > FLAC > CD1-R
(4) Source 3 Master > DAT >CD-R
(5)
me > TLH > WAV (to test for lossiness) > Audacity (to view waveform, embed metadata/track titles & info, and then to re-encode) > FLAC 8 > TLH (to check for SBE's and create and verify new ffp & md5 files) > you

Winston Remasters Notes (copy & paste):
"Hardest show I ever worked on. Used the best possible audio for each song.
Each of the Stage/SBD sources ran at different Sound/Pitch/Speed. It was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together, a BIG THANK YOU to Blackmikito, He really helped me get it right!
Sound: This is more of a Restoration than a Remaster, So I decided to try and give each source tonal balance and clarity.
It seemed the less I did the better it sounded. If your looking for a beefed up in your face version this isn't it, I would recommend Wendy's Fatally Wanderer instead.
Also would like to thank Pernod for his help early on.
So.. Is it Perfect? NOPE. But its the best I could do.

The show starts out not sounding as bright as it later becomes.  It still sounds fine, but Page's guitar and well as Plant's vocals are not very loud.  They can be heard but the drums and bass are more up front in the recording at the beginning.  Page's picks up and becomes bright during "Heartbreaker" but again becomes not as bright.

Winston Remasters states that he used the best source for each song and this is really more of a restoration than a remaster.  And I hear what he is speaking of I believe as I am finishing up CD 1 ("Dazed and Confused").  It is not meant to be an "in your face" copy but more of a cleaned up copy and one that had some errors (like pitch) fixed.

I'm not going to say this is the best copy of the show I have heard.  It probably isn't.  But I am going to say it is the most evenly mixed copy I have heard so far.  It sounds like one track or source goes into the next with very little to no audio differences.  In other words, the audio sounds relatively the same throughout what I have heard so far.  And I like that.

I'm starting CD 3 now and I'm not going to wait until I have finished the show to make this post.  I'm ready to upload it now.  If there is anything worth updating as I continue listening, I'll come back and post it.

My overall opinion of this recording is it is an excellent-to-superb sounding recording to me.  It may or may not be to you?  But I like it and think it is very clean sounding.

I hope you enjoy the show...
