Led Zeppelin: 1973-03-27 Nancy, France (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

Today, or at least as I start this post, is the 42nd anniversary of this Nancy, France Led Zeppelin show in 1973.  This recording is actually a lot better than I had originally thought too.  I'd rate it a great sounding recording especially considering it was recorded from the audience in 1973.

The vocals on Plant are very easily heard, the drums are heavy as is the bass with little distortion, and Page's guitar can be heard well too.  I'm guessing the taper likely started out the show on the side of the crowd which was closer to John Paul Jones' side of the venue.  Page's guitar is a little quieter than the bass and that is not normally the case in the mixes.  And the keyboards JPJ plays are also very up front indicating the taper was probably on his side in the crowd.  But as the show continues I wonder if the taper moved more towards Jimmy Pages side of the venue?

The recording sounds very good and everybody can be heard playing and singing too.  The sound does change a few times in the show however and the audio isn't as good as it started outsounding.  Around "The Song Remains The Same", it seems the sound starts alternating more.  It sounds almost like the taper is trying to hide or forgets about the microphone.  All that glitters is definitely not gold in the recording, but it still sounds nice and enjoyable too.  And distortion is not an issue which really jumps my rating up to great.  It's definitely not an excellent or superb sounding recording, but it also isn't a good or poor sounding/rated one either.

This is the "dadgad" shared master audience audio.  It recently surfaced too and this is the first copy of this show I have ever uploaded.  I don't know if "dadgad" did any EQ work on the show's audio or not, but I don't see any mention of any being done.  Still, it sounds different that some other copies I have of the show (that likely have been EQ'ed) and it really sounds cleaner and with far less distortion that some label copies sound.

The taper seems to turn down the record level too during "Over The Hills and Far Away" making the recording a more clean and level audio source that it initially starts out as.  The distortion, even though small and not too bad, is removed and the recording is not slightly overloaded sounding.  I'm listening to "Since I've Been Loving You" now and it sounds very nice.  There are parts of the show sounding worse and better than other parts but it is a nice recording overall to add to your collection.

The second half of the show is the more muffled sounding audio and the first half of it is brighter sounding I'd say.

The taper or someone near them does some chatting and singing along with songs in some parts of the show.  But it isn't anything show stopping or as horrible as the stoner taper Artie and his friends in the New York Led Zeppelin recordings are.  And there really is very little audience heard throughout the whole show.

This is not the complete show unfortunately, but it is definitely most of it and the songs sound like complete recordings too in most cases.  There are some songs cut a little short or that have small portions cut in the middle but the taper seems to keep the tape rolling as he records without a lot of stopping or pausing of the recorder.  I do hate that the "Stairway to heaven" solo is cut short ending the song before it is finished.  This is an enjoyable recording to me though!

I hope you enjoy the show...
