Jimi Hendrix: 1968-03-19 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (FLAC_SB 1st Gen_1 CD)

Here is an superb recording of the second set of Jimi Hendrix's Ottawa show that occurred 47 years ago today.  I had only had an mp3 copy of this show, and not this upgrade either, for the longest time and now I finally have a copy (as of today) that I can actually burn to disc!

A very special thanks goes to my buddy Dave for this one!  He had it and sent it over to me earlier today.  Plus, he helped me clear up some Hendrix questions I've had as well as some  matters (even related to this CD) on what was officially released and what was not.

There were three officially released tracks (not in this copy) from the first set Hendrix played on this same day in some earlier copies of the show that had circulated like the "Ottawa 1968" second generation copy I had an mp3 of (and has since been deleted finally).  And this copy is also an upgrade to many other copies circulating still.  It is a first generation (as opposed to the more common second generation) copy!

Hendrix shows can be very confusing and so can many of the labels they appear on.  But this first generation copy is not an official release and it sounds excellent.  I'm trying to listen as I prepare this post and I'm loving it!

There are some issues that are common with many Hendrix (and all artists for that matter) shows out there.  There is some distortion in the low frequencies as the show starts out but the show gets remixed by the sound man (I assume) and cleans up very nicely.  Hendrix even stops for a second between the first two songs and mentions they're having some equipment problems.  And after that, wow!  The sound improves a lot.

One thing I like too is that there is some hiss indicating the high frequencies have not been cut or had any compression used in this recording.  The waveform looks perfect too with no audio clipping.  In order to remove hiss, many people will cut the high frequencies out and that does not appear to have happened here at all.  The hiss is not bad either and is really only heard in quieter moments.

The last track, "Wild Thing", is cut short.  But earlier versions of the show apparently didn't have any of the song on them from what I was able to tell.  Hendrix's guitar is up front too and I love that in rock guitarist oriented recordings.  And the bass is clean and very nice sounding as well.  There is an excellent mix in this recording and as I already stated, I love it!

I better hurry and post this show if I want it o be uploaded on its 47th birthday today.  I know you'll enjoy it if you are a Hendrix fan and do not have it (or maybe if you do have "it" but not this copy) :-)

Well, shoot!  It looks like we're 47 years and a day and the upload is finally finishing.  Oh well, I tried!

I hope you enjoy the show...
