Led Zeppelin: 2007-12-05 Surrey, England (Shepperton Studio Rehearsals) (FLAC_SB/Studio_2 CD)

Led Zeppelin was in the studio rehearsing for their upcoming final concert 7 years ago today.  Here is one of the two best sounding copies of the Led Zeppelin rehearsal the band ran through (the full show) five days prior to their 2007-12-10 reunion concert at London's O2 Arena.

There are two cuts in this recording that exist in most copies of it.  Both "No Quarter" and "Misty Mountain Hop" cut out after about 2 minutes, 30 seconds.  EVSD released a uncut version of the rehearsal and it was 100% complete.  But they released it in a lossy source and that totally defeats the purpose of a high quality, CD standard recording.  I'm still looking for the EVSD copy just to have the full rehearsal.  But I'd rather find the Godfather Records copy because it reportedly sounds even a little better than (or at least as good as) this Tarantura copy I'm sharing today.  It uses the lossy EVSD source to fill in the cuts to the two tracks but the rest of the music is lossless with a very nice mix reportedly.

This waveform here on the Tarantura copy shows no clipping of the audio.  But it looks completely maximized out (next step is clipped audio) and like a limiter or compressor was used to keep the tracks from clipping.  I'm still learning how to accurately use both of these features myself on my own digital recordings and recorders as well as in audio editing.  So I'm not going to speculate on what Tarantura did too much.  All I know is it sounds good!

This is referred to as the "Guitar On Version" because Jimmy Page's guitar is up front and balanced much better than the original releases of this material as it first surfaced.  In the original leaked recordings the audio sounded a lot less "full range" and Page's guitar was buried in the audio mix that was done.  So this is definitely the best copy I have and I'll let you know if it stays this was once I find the Godfather Records copy and the EVSD copy (reportedly not near as good sounding...and again, a lossy recording).

The band reportedly did a complete run through of the show (one more rehearsal) on the day of the concert.  And this is the bonus disc in their officially released Celebration Day material.  I own the Deluxe Edition (or whatever it is called) and what the bonus material contains is a DVD of the rehearsal from one single camera on the day of the show.  This upload today was the final studio rehearsal from five days prior to that bonus DVD that was officially released.

What we have here is Led Zeppelin's final rehearsal, or really second from final rehearsal, before what it seems was the band's final concert ever.  So this is a piece of history and likely Led Zeppelin's last rehearsal we'll ever hear.  Sad but true!

I hope you enjoy the rehearsal...
