Page & Plant: 1996-02-05 Tokyo, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

I had wanted to upload this show yesterday, on its 19th anniversary since it was performed, but I did not have the time to do so.  So with a late start, here it is now.

Thanks to "Amduscia" for uploading this show originally as well as the other nine that will follow.  This was the first show in Japan on the Jimmy Page and Robert Plant No Quarter tour.  The guys had wrapped up their touring in America in 1995, and after a short break, they came over to Japan where they finished off their first, real reunion tour as "Page & Plant".  This was where the guys started playing and sounding a lot more "Zeppelin like" once again too in my opinion.  And they even improved on that each night in the Japan leg of the tour.  But I still am disappointed with the "No Quarter" song when they played it this way and not the way Zeppelin would have played it.

This is the first two CD's out of 20 (or ten shows)  of Page and Plant playing in Japan in 1996.  Hoochie Coochie, the label for this 20 CD set, did a great job of putting the shows together and putting them out.  These first two CD's sound superb too.

Page and Plant opened this Japanese leg of their tour by playing six nights in Tokyo, playing two nights in Osaka, playing one night in Nagoya, and then playing their final night in Fukuoka, Japan.  The first six shows were in a row and the two Osaka shows were four days apart with the Nagoya show being played right in the middle of them.

I was able to get all 20 CD's as they were torrented and will be trying to upload each show on its 19th anniversary up through February 20th.  If for any reason I get a date I cannot make the upload on on its 19th anniversary, I'll either upload it early or upload it a little late.  It's hard to tell that far out what may or may not happen and my availability.  But I hope to keep the train a rollin' and upload each show at the right time as well as keep the Zeppelin shows coming on their birthdays and any other shows of interest uploading too.  I already know this will be a busy month.  But I like that!

I hope you enjoy this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-02-04 Uniondale, NY (FLAC_AUD Master_1 CD)

It was 40 years ago tonight this show was taking place.  Unfortunately, this recording is a poor one with a few good spots.  It also has cuts in some songs as well as incomplete recordings (kind of the same thing I guess) and is only part of the show.  This is definitely one for completeness in a collection only because it is not a good recording at all.

Even though this is a show you may listen to once in your life if you even listen that far, it is nice to have some documented sounds from it.  The recorder used was terrible on the bass too.  It could not even remotely record those frequencies and it causes a distorted type of overdubbing on the rest of the show's audio.  In other words, like now as I listen to "Trampled Underfoot", I can hear Plant singing and hear the keyboard, but the bass (being played by John Paul Jones via the keyboard) is drowning out the other instruments drastically with it's blown speaker type of sound.

I was just looking at the original information and here is a copy and paste of the taper's notes.

Ed's Notes:
"I recorded this show with my Panasonic portable cassette deck from the 300s section on Robert's side of the stage. Unfortunately the quality of the cassette deck and the tapes used wasnt very good. Even more unfortunate is that during the year following the concert, I recorded over most of the tapes (I had recorded the whole show) which was quite a stupid thing to do to say the least..... "

I hope you enjoy owning a copy of this show..

Journey: 2001-02-04 Shizuoka, Japan (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Here is the one remaining show I did not have when I was uploading the Journey Japan shows as they opened their Arrival tour in 2001.  This was the only show from all of the Japanese concerts I did not have.  And thanks to my buddy "Tales", I got it soon after I started looking for it.  He shared it with me so I could share it with you.  So thanks goes to "Tales" for this upload!

This show was 14 years ago today.  I've been promising someone I'd upload it but have been a little busy lately and had other shows I also had made promises of putting up.  So what better day to finish up my promises than on this show's birthday.

This show is excellent sounding but it sounds like the taper was a little further back.  It is very clean and everything can be heard fine, but it is just a little less "excellent" when compared to many of the other Japan 2001 concerts.  In fact, the more I listen I almost don't want to say what I just said because I like the sound.  It is a great show and an enjoyable one too.  And there is no audio clipping either in the waveform.  I'm glad to have it and be able to share it today with whoever is interested in it.  And I am sure you will be 'feeling that way' too once you listen.

This is another great performance by Journey too (as always).  It is also another long show that almost runs two hours long as well.

I hope you enjoy this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1975-02-03 New York, NY (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_2 CD)

This show that occurred 40 years ago today has always mystified me a little.  It's a single night at New York's Madison Square Garden the band played on their 1975 tour before coming back sporadically and playin more shows more shows there (and elsewhere too) in 1975.

The played New York City this night, Uniondale, New York the next night, and then they went up to Montreal, Canada and played the next night.  This all sounds normal.  But then the next night they came back to Madison Square Garden, then went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, then to Landover, Maryland, and then they came back to Madison square Garden a third time and Unniondale, New York for a second time for two more nights.  They jumped around like checkers on a checkerboard playing these nine shows.  Except on a checkerboard you can't go backwards.  I'm sure they financially benefited from it but it sure looks like a messed up schedule too.

Anyhow, this show is from the first Madison Square Garden concert in 1975 that they played.  And after we get through the taper(s) discussing lighting their joint, the show begins.  But the taper(s) did a lot of talking and kind of messed up what is really a nice recording too.  They don't ruin the show, but they do interfere with it, especially in the first half of the show,  by talking too much.  At times, and probably as they're holding smoke in their lungs, they shut up for a while.

This is an Artie recorded taping.  I wasn't sure until I uploaded the show, but I was able to soon after confirm that it is.  So the text file won't have this in it because I'd originally said I wasn't sure if this was an Artie recorded show.

Artie was known for great recordings but also for being chatty during shows he recorded.  But this night is a little excessive and really amateur taper sounding in my opinion.  In fact, one of my dogs keeps jumping up every few minutes and looking around as one of the people recording the show or at it keeps whistling loudly.  But it's still fun to listen to and would be an excellent recording if the taper(s) shut their mouths or smoked more weed.  Oh great, they just ran out of matches during the beginning of John Paul Jones' keyboard section of "No Quarter" so I imagine they'll talk more now.

This really is a nice recording and there is a lot of times there is no taper and friend(s) talking too in this recording.  It's just a shame that we had to have any talking by the people doing the recording (sounds like at least three people I'd guess).

One great thing about this show is Led Zeppelin brings "Dazed and Confused" back to the setlist.  They take out "How Many More Times" though.  And from this point on through the rest of the tour ending back in England on 1975-05-25, "Dazed and Confused" is in the setlist!  And they really jam on it this night.  All 22 minutes of the song (and that's a shorter version than many 30 - 45 minute versions) is great.  Robert Plant even states at the end of the song "we haven't done that one in 18 months" and he mentions it is hard to remember the lyrics to it too.

I wasn't going to do this because I hate putting artwork from another label, recording, or that wasn't made for the exact file set I'm dealing with into an upload.  But in this case, there was a no label copy with no real title to mess up future shares of this show taken from here.  Even though it doesn't mention that it came from a first generation copy on it of course, it works pretty good because it just has the basic information.  See the samples below.  But if you share this show, be sure to note this artwork does not go with it and and was not created for this 1st generation copy!  While I doubt many people have this copy that the artwork was made for, I don't want to muddy the waters with confusing artwork from a different copy of the show either.  Please, be sure to do this so nobody mistakes this artwork enclosed as being for this source Presence shared with us!

I hope you enjoy this show..

Led Zeppelin: 1969-02-02 Toronto, Ontario, Canada (FLAC_AUD Master Reel_Set 1_1 CD)

I didn't have chance to upload this show yesterday, on it's 46th anniversary, so I am uploading it this morning.  I actually had a lot of shows I'd planned on uploading of various artists but  I never got a chance to upload any of them.

This was Led Zeppelin's first time playing The Rockpile but it wasn't their last.  Not even their last in 1969 as they played again in August of that year.  And this was Led Zeppelin's first Canadian appearance too as I just heard the introduction track with the announcer saying this.

It is kind of interesting that another band played in between Led Zeppelin's sets.  Afterall, they were still a new band and this was their first performance in a new country (at least as Led Zeppelin).

I don't guess the band's second set got recorded.  And if it did, I have never found it.

This recording had notes indicating it came from the person who purchased the master tape from the taper.  They said that another copy of the master, likely made before they go this recording I assume, had circulated but it did not have the track "Killin Floor" on it so it was incomplete.  They surmised it may have been done on purpose by the person with that copy so they would be the only person with the complete show (we call that hoarding).  Well, thankfully the hoarder failed if that was the case and their intent.

I hope you enjoy this show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-02-01 New York, NY (FLAC_AUD_1st Set_1 CD)

I wanted to get this uploaded yesterday with the second set from the show and on its 46th anniversary, but I was too tired and went to bed.  And that's probably why I woke up at 3:30 AM too now.

If you wonder why a lot of past artwork for this show has 1969-01-31 on it or why the setlist for the first set starts with "White Summer", here's the answers.  First, 1969-01-31 had been thought to be the correct date of the recording until a few years ago when a video surfaced of a portion of that show and it did not match this show's audio.  And since Led Zeppelin only played 1969-01-31 and 1969-02-01 this first time in New York, it obviously had to be the next night's show.  So a lot of artwork has the wrong date we believe today.  And the show started with "White Summer" because an instrument had been left at the hotel room and the band had to start the show late as it was retrieved by someone and they finally started to avoid further delay with Jimmy Page's acoustic song "White Summer".

I just looked and noticed this artwork has the correct 1969-02-01 date on it too.

One more thing to keep in mind in regards to the dates is this.  There has been a lot of debate as to which of these early Fillmore East shows is what date and set and whatever too.  So the fact their if no factual proof we have, and just investigative research and word of mouth from attendees, means that this information I believe to be true (and determined by those with a lot more knowledge about this subject) may also be incorrect.  It probably isn't wrong, but we cannot say with 100% certainty it is all correct too.

I decided to go with EVSD's copy here because they did not clip the audio and they did an excellent job of cleaning up the sound.  I have a copy of the master audio but it is missing the higher frequencies EQ work EVSD did.  The master audio is unedited and sounds muddy (but is still nice to have).

This really is a great-to-excellent recording and job EVSD did on this show.  There is some distortion in some of the real heavy bass and just heavier, faster parts.  Still, I love it!  You have no problem hearing the drums, Plant's voice, or Page's guitar.  You definitely hear the bass too.  But I think it sounds excellent most of the time (with a little distortion at times or not).

Due to such as long title by EVSD (part of the zipped file's name) and this zipped file having a long name. be sure to unzip this one in a shorter named folder (like "0") to avoid too long of a path and then move or rename it as you want.  I probably should have done this myself but I didn't think about it until it was uploaded already.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Led Zeppelin: 1969-02-01 New York,NY (DVD-A_AUD 2nd Gen_LPCM 48 kHz/24 Bit_2nd Set)

This is by far the best sounding copy of the legendary, as well as disputable, second show Led Zeppelin ever did in New York.  And it just so happens it was 46 years ago tonight (what are those chances).

I mention this show has been disputed.  And what I mean is the date of it.  Led Zeppelin played two sets (or shows) at the Fillmore East on 1969-01-31 and 1969-02-01.  The first set would be played, a break would be taken, then the second set or half of the show was played.  However, on this night John Paul Jones had left an instrument in the hotel room and the show was being delayed.  So the first set started off with Jimmy Page playing "White Summer" while Jones' instrument was retrieved.   And this is the second set in this recording being uploaded first.

Many people have said, "the date is 1969-01-31" and many others have said "mo, it was really 1969-02-01."  Some video, about a 30 second clip, of the 1969-01-31 show surfaced a few years back and it did not match this recording being shared here.  While there is no concrete proof this date in this upload is February 1st, it is nearly proven and definitely makes the most sense.  But since I wasn't there, I have to go with the word of people who were and the general consensus of those who have researched and know a lot more about it than I do.  I'll upload the first set of the show,in a little while too.

Thanks to "pernod" for helping me clarify what should be the correct information when I asked on R-O earlier today as I started preparing this upload.  I decided to get it right rather than come back and correct it late.  That especially helps when you look at the text file later too :-)

Rather than reword what has already been said by the sharing party, "weedwacker", here is a copy and paste of the notes in the original information given.

ORIGINAL NOTES (copy & paste):
"Bill was gracious enough to lend me this reel to transfer. The backstory behind this reel is Bill received this from Bob Whitfield back in 1980. This reel didn't have the tuneups prior to Train Kept A Rollin' that is present on some of the other copies. This is an excellent recording of a young zeppelin band just beginning to make their mark on the music world. This a tight, no nonsense performance. This also happens to be the first show they ever played in New York as Led Zeppelin. A very light mastering was done to attenuate some of the hiss and fix some minor dropouts in the recording. None of the music was affected and no lossy processing was done period."

Whether this show actually occurred on 1969-01-31 or 1969-02-01, that really isn't as important as us having it.  And I've got so many labels and version of it, some with more or less tape than the others, that I'm sharing what sounds best today.

I will be uploading set 1, or the first half of the show, also in a little while if able.  And if not tonight, I'll put it up tomorrow as I catch up on some shows I promised to get uploaded (as well as Zeppelin's February 2nd show from 1969 too).

Enjoy the show...
