Boston: 1987-06-20 Dallas, TX (FLAC_AUD_2 CD)

Twenty-seven years later, and I still have not ever seen Boston live yet!  This show was my first real chance to go see them but I never got to make it.  Friends, driving up from Houston to Dallas, were going and for whatever the reason was at the time, I could not go.  Not only was it Boston's return to the stage for the very first time since 1979 but it was the second from last Texxas Jam (also called Monsters of Rock) year too.  And I missed them both!

I really want to see Boston even though I lost the chance to see the Brad Delp Boston when he dies in 2008.  Still, I want to see the band and since transportation is always the big issue with me nowadays, I just cannot afford buying two tickets every time I want to see a band and record their show.  But I need to do it with Boston because they're one of the all-time American greats and they're a huge part of rock 'n' roll history too.

Whoever recorded this show really did a great job for most of it.  The recording has flaws but it also is a very nice, excellent recording throughout most of the show too.  I think the second half sounds a little better too up prior to the encore.  If you've ever been to a Texxas Jam, you know just how difficult and almost impossible it was to get a recording this good.  People were loud, it was hot, most everyone was drunk, and it was just not a good environment to record a show in.  But this recording has very clean vocals and instruments making me think this person recording it had to be up close and had to have been slightly away from the main crowd.  You'll hear people talking at some points and things like that.  But overall, the show is great sounding!

I still wish I could go back and redo whatever it was that kept me from going to this show almost 30 years ago.  But since I can't, I'll just have to accept this is the closest I'll ever come to having been there.

UPDATE: I forgot I have a ticket to this show even though I didn't get to go.  I'd have included it in the upload had I remembered it just in case anyone was ever nice enough to create some artwork or wanted a copy themselves for historical purposes (maybe they were there and don't have their ticket).  Anyhow, the ticket scan I'm adding below was not from me attending.  It was from a friend who attended and gave me their ticket about 15 years ago before I ever had a copy of the show!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Van Halen: 1983-05-29 Devore, CA (Pro Shot 1st Gen DL DVD)

This is a dual/double layer DVD of a Van Halen show of Van Halen's performance at the US Festival in 1983.  This show was just a little less than two years before the official removal of David Lee Roth from the band.  The lineage on this DL DVD project looks like a book below.  But I am copying and pasting it in the lineage area and only fixing some typos.

The video is great quality,  It's slightly blurry but still very enjoyable, and the audio is really great too.  This is a very nice project put together from two video sources an one audio source.

I love how great the Westwood One LP's "bobobo" has shared sound.  He has helped REO fans out a lot by his generous sharing of his collection he has built over the years, and not only of REO Speedwagon but of other artists too.  He has obviously taken excellent care of his LP's and his transfers of the LP's to digital formats like this one via a USB turntable are superb.  There is no clipping of the audio and everything looks and sounds perfect.

One thing I also love about these Westwood One broadcasts, or in this case a pre-FM recording, is how Gary Richrath's guitar always seems to stand out and he jams with his unique sound.  After Richrath's departure from the band in 1989, I really had thought the band would not survive without the Richrath guitar playing.  And I still felt this way early on when Dave Amato replaced Gary Richrath.  But thankfully, and pretty quickly too, Dave Amato took the music of REO Speedwagon and he learned it and fit right in on tours.  He is still REO's lead guitarist 25 years later and he has kept the band alive musically.  To me, the guitar playing in REO Speedwagon is one of the primary factors in why they're so good.  Of course the songs and every band member's playing are just as important to the band's success.  But to me the guitar was an irreplaceable part of the 1970's through 1980's REO.  But they found the one guitarist, Dave Amato, who was in it for the long haul and has been spectacular at making the songs
from before he was even in the band sound right.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Heart: 1976-XX-XX Pullman, WA - Washington State University (Pro Shot DVD)

This is the earliest video I know of that is of a complete Heart concert.  And it comes from a low generation VHS of the master reel and is professionally shot too.  The band was very new at this point and was really just starting out and was an unknown band still.  The actual date of the sow was reportedly February or March of 1976 and the first broadcast in the Pacific Northwest United States was on 1976-04-09.

This concert was at Washington State University.  It seems to be a bunch of college students in the audience and the school's radio/TV department did the recording of the show.  This is a really awesome and cool historical documentation of one of rock 'n' roll's best acts starting out.  And I think this is the only time I have seen (or heard) Heart not playing a Led Zeppelin song in their concert even tough you can hear and see the strong Zeppelin influence in Heart's performance here.  This is a true rarity!

There is another copy of this sow I had that has additional footage of Heart's 1977 and 1978 "Midnight Special" performances as well as their 1976 and 1977 Musik Laden songs.  I lost this DVD on a hard drive that failed and was not backed up yet.  But I hope I can get it again or even one day recover the data because the six extra tracks are really a great time capsule addition of this great band.

This is an excellent recording and one any Heart fan should enjoy having in their collection!

I hope you enjoy the show...

REO Speedwagon: 1980-07-27 East Troy, WI (FLAC_SB/FM_2 CD)

This is a great-to-excellent recording captured by "eve1976" and shared of REO Speedwagon's concert broadcast over FM radio of their 1980-07-27 East Troy, Wisconsin performance.  Thanks goes to "eve1976" for this excellent show!

Even though you likely won't notice it unless you look at each channel, the right channel has some audio clipping that the left channel doesn't have.  I'm not sure if the balance was just a little off or what may have caused it.  But most of the recording still sounds excellent.

I think there is a slight "dead spot" (for lack of the correct term) on the beginning of the tape or the tape tape head that also can be noticed at times.  At the very beginning of the show, when the only thing you hear is the audience cheering, you can easily hear what I'm talking about.   It is also heard easily near the end of the recording/show.  I haven't fooled with cassette tapes in so long I cannot recall what problems may cause this in a recording.  Maybe it's a tape head needing demagnetizing, the tape heads needing adjusting, I really just don't know.  But once the music is playing, it is really not a problem and becomes noticeable for the most part until nearer to the end of the show.

One last sound issue to note, and this is being added after I've already uploaded the show and noticed it, is the recording quality after "Flying Turkey Trot".  It is not as good.  I don't know if it is a different source or maybe a tape flip on a recorder causing some of the previously mentioned issues.  The sound gets better the more it progresses past "Flying Turkey Trot".  But it still ia not as good as it had been and there is noticeably more right channel audio coming through, creating heavier clipping and making me think the record heads on the recording or transferring gear may have been the issue for any sound problems if it isn't the tape itself.  It's too bad the audio degrades because this is an excellent show.

This recording was four months before the release of the bands most infamous and largest selling LP Hi Infidelity.  REO had been doing great prior to the November 21, 1980 Hi Infidelity release, but they were shot into superstar status when the LP became the 1981 best selling LP.  It's when I first heard of REO Speedwagon myself.  But that's a completely different story and there are reasons I didn't know of them earlier.

Gary Richrath's guitar playing is superb in this this show and it is up front in the recording mix too!  The whole Westwood One mix on this show is an excellent one.

This transition between REO's 1970's era and the new 1980's era is magical here.  They were so full of energy and talent at this point.  And the fact they're playing a number of still unreleased Hi Infidelity songs in this show tells me they were worked up about the upcoming LP release.  Many bands might play a song from their upcoming release, but they don't usually play three in the first half of the show.

I tried to work on the right channel audio clipping and repair it.  But I still have a lot to learn about doing that correctly and I was not able to do anything to correct it.  And since other audio issues mentioned above became evident too as I was listening to the show, it really wasn't as big of a deal trying to fix something most people would not ever even notice likely.  Hopefully, we might find another great transfer of this same show without the audio issues in the future.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Robert Plant: 1993-10-28 Dallas, TX (FLAC_AUD Master_2 CD)

Here's another one coming up on its 21st Anniversary in a few days.  This is really a superb recording that has to be lowered a little to an excellent recording only because the crowd is a little chatty at times.  This is a KRW_Co. transfer of a Smores DAT master recording of the Plant 1993 Dallas Concert.  It is a very enjoyable recording and one from the Dallas Convention Center (indoors) as opposed to the old Coca Cola Starplex (outdoors) where most concerts were held (and still are...different name today) in those days and it was a little more difficult to get superb recordings from.

Smores recordings are from a taper that seems to have recorded tons of shows over the years.  At some point he seems to have lived in Dallas.  This is the case at least in the 1980's and 1990's I'd guess due to how many shows from these two eras in Dallas that have surfaced and were recorded by Smores.  Lately, KRW has been assisting as have other people in getting the ubcirculated Smores recordings out.  Smores' tapes seem to be getting transferred by a few people digitizing them and then sharing them on Dime putting them into circulation.  So all thanks for this recording goes to "Smores".  And a special thanks goes to KRW for assisting with so many of the transfers including this one.

I never got to see Robert Plant on this tour.  I can't recall the reason why, but I didn't.  I sure wish I had though.  The setlist to this show, with some of Plants newer songs like "29 Palms", "I Believe", then other songs from his early solo career like "In The Mood" as well as Zeppelin era tracks like "What Is And What Should Never Be" and others, made for a well rounded setlist.  And the sound captured in the show is really excellent.  It's just too bad the Dallas crowds (from my own recording experiences too) are so chatty so many times!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Aerosmith: 1975-09-18 St. Louis, MO (FLAC_SB_1 CD)

This is a excellent-to-superb at times sounding earlier stage of Aerosmith as a band recording.  It sounds like the show may have already been going as the music cuts it.  This is when I think Aerosmith really rocked out and sounded great and a long time before their commercial success which led to songs I still despise.  Everyone has their own tastes so I'm not ridiculing their later stuff, I'm just speaking my mind.  This is an excellent soundboard for those who like their rocking era or want to check it out.

I think what draws me to this earlier Aerosmith music is the guitar mix, Steven Tyler's vocals in the earlier years, and the high energy rock 'n' roll performances they put on.  I don't know their drug intake at this stage, but it was definitely before the point where it became such an issue they started sounding sloppy.  They really got sloppy and lost it in the late 1970's and into the 1980's.  Sure, they still made some great music and played some great shows.  But they also had some horrible music, by my tastes as wellas the music industry's too (just look at their sales), as well as some catostraphic performances the more they got caught up in the drugs and the toll it took on the band members.  The one good thing is this.  Even if I hated the music they made later (for the most part...not all of it), at least they got their act together and got clean over time.  And they became successful again and for a totally younger generation.  As far as I know, they've had a few pitfalls since then but have pretty much kept their noses clean too.

I don't really keep up with Aerosmith a lot and I don't collect any of their newer shows.  My limited information of their history comes from reading, research, and TV documentaries and stories over the years.  But they all seem to be pretty consistent in their reports and the band seems to agree with what is said too from what I've seen and heard.

There are some changes as this recording progresses.  I'm trying to listen to it as I make this post.  It sounds as if the mix on the soundboard is fooled with, at times highlighting Tyler's voice and then at other times switching more towards Perry's guitar.  But it equaly out as far as I can tell after a little time and still sounds excellent overall.  I'm listening to "Dream On" right now, after Tyler's early misplaced lyrical jumping in on "Sweet Emotion" (kind of funny hearing it), and the mix sounds excellent.  But the nore I listen, the guitar drops out a little more near the end.  But you can actually hear the lyrics cleaner in this song too with the mix.

The recording is not without errors, both by the band and the sound mixer, but it a still a nice, old era show  Aerosmith fans should enjoy it!

I hope you enjoy the show...

Blondie: 1978-11-12 New York, NY (FLAC_SB_2 CD)

This is an excellent sounding Blondie show from almost 36 years ago and the performance is awesome too.  Blondie was one of the very first artist I really started listening to and looking for more music of.  As a kid, I had everything from Glen Campbell records to The Jackson 5 and other varieties of artists on records.  But as I was getting just a little older I heard Blondie and found a few 8-track tapes and then LP's because I really liked her voice.  This was even before I knew who Journey was, and even though I'd heard of Led Zeppelin, I didn't really know their music yet and hadn't heard it a lot.  We're talking way back when :-)

I lost interest in Blondie's music that came after the late 1980's.  She disappeared and so did a lot of her talent in my opinion.  She seemed to still have a great voice but she didn't seem to be able to use it.  Her enthusiasm and shows seemed to be lackluster and not like these late 1970's shows or the 1980 ones either.  So it is nice to find these old soundboard and audience recordings of Blondie shows from her early days.  I've been able to acquire a nice collection of them due to others who've shared them over the years.  And every so often, like today, I'll pull one up and give it a listen.  And I figured today, I'd go ahead and upload another one too just in case anyone else might like to hear an old Blondie show.

I hope you enjoy the show...

Mazzy Star: 1993-10-26 Paris, France (FLAC_SB/Pre-FM Reportedly_1 CD)

Here's an older Mazzy Star show coming up on its 21st anniversary.  This is an excellent recording, however; I am frustrated not knowing for sure if it is what it claims to be and coming to the conclusion it isn't.  I'll try and update as I am able to confirm or deny more details.

So here goes...this is suppose to be a transfer from a rare Sangatte CD (1000 or less made) of the pre-FM recording of this show.  The Black Sessions is a French FM radio broadcast done with various artists through the years and only a few, sometimes less than 500, copies are made of the show and they're stuck in with odd purchases.  Sometimes a person may buy a recording from one artist and the recording of another artist's The Black Sessions show will be with it.  This is what I've read and heard in the past.  It seems to be that you cannot go out and find a copy if you want to buy one.  But if you do not really want one, you may wind up getting one too.  And that's the story the way I've been told and read.

Now, on to this self claimed professional copy.  This is not put together like one and it tests lossy.  This recording is not sounding whatsoever like the 2013, 20th Anniversary, professionally made copy it claims to be and sounds like an FM radio broadcast recording.  There is some hiss in the tape sound, there are cut outs between tracks as if commercials are being removed, the waveform shows some audio clipping, and it does not have a professional "feel" to it.  I'm not convinced the record label doesn't release these shows in a lossy, mpeg format though because every The Black Sessions I've heard all come back as 95% mpeg sourced.

Now, after saying all of the above, this still is an excellent sounding recording.  It's better than another FM broadcasted over French radio source I first got.  I'm not trying to discourage anyone from getting this, but I do not believe it is what it claims to be lineage wise either.

If anyone wonders why a lot of people actually check the audio quality and add the various files we do to ensure the files are verifiable and intact, it's because you cannot always believe what you read when you find a show.  And it's not that the person sharing it is necessarily lying.  Many times they didn't check to verify what they reported in their post was correct or maybe they didn't even know or ever learn how to verify some very simple things.  I think that is the case in this example here.  Here is a copy and paste of part of the information given for this sharing of this recording:

This audio file comes from the  a 2oth anniversary special edition CD issued by Sangtatte Records. Many thanks to (removed so as to not embarrass or insult the people involved) for kindly sharing a CDR copy of his original  CD I believe he found at a not-cheap price on ebay. A lossless FLAC audio file of the CD can now be shared via the Forum boots list. The prior versions of The Black Sessions listed in the boots list were lacking in audio quality. I'd hoped a better version might turn up. Now, thanks to jamband, we can enjoy a top quality audio version of The Black Sessions.

I plan on adding some more help to my site for those interested in verifying recordings.  And I also plan of learning to do some more things I've put off after having difficulties learning them.  But I can recommend one program now that every last trader should get and it is free!  Get Trader's Little Helper!  Not only can you convert, get information, analyze, etc, etc your recordings with this program but it will help you learn more about the music your downloading and possibly sharing yourself.  It's a must have if you don't have it.

This most definitely is a better sounding copy than the previous one I'd found, and even though it is an mpeg, lossy source and falsely represented somewhere along the way copy I am sure, I'm still thankful to have it for the sound upgrade!

I hope you enjoy the show...

This show is a little shorter than some of the other ones I recently got.  It almost seems like the encore may have been cut, but I doubt it has.  It may just have some earlier in the tour songs that were not as long as the later songs replacing them.  Afterall, it's really only 7 minutes shorter than the last show.  There are a few different songs as well as a different order, when compared to the July 18th show I uploaded last night, than later setlists.

One of my favorite songs is becoming "Ghost Highway".  I like the music, the vocals, and I'm starting to learn the lyrics.  The next show I upload from Mazzy Star may be one of their earlier 1990's shows.  I've got some soundboards too so I may pick one of those.  I'm still learning the music myself and becoming familiar with the songs.  So it may be a surprise for all of us?

I hope you enjoy the show...

Mazzy Star: 2012-07-18 Zurich, Switzerland (FLAC_AUD Master_1 CD)

This is a recording from a band I just recently was introduced to.  They've been around since 1990, and the singer, Hope Sandoval, has been singing since at least 1983 I can see from recordings I've come across.  I was wondering how this young girl could have been singing for so many years and then I finally looked up her bio on the internet and discovered she's 48 years old now!  She has definitely found the fountain of youth if anyone has!

But the friend that introduced this band to me very recently had me locate and burn a 2012 show to DVD for him.  We checked it out at my place and I was really impressed by the music and the singer's voice.  This is what I call "mood music" because it seems to be best to listen to in certain mindsets.  If you're pumped up and ready to rock out, then no, you aren't wanting to hear this likely.  But if you're more relaxed, like the fall and winter months arriving seem to get me each year, and if you want a music you can almost listen to without actually listening to it (like when working on a project or something), then these are just a few examples that I find are perfect for the music and mood.

This is the first professionally successful artist (band) I've come across in a while that I've taken a big interest in.  And if you have or haven't heard of them, maybe you should check out Mazzy Star too.

I've only listened to a little bit of this excellent audience recording so far.  And it's not the best recording I've found either.  But as I kick back in a little while tonight, and after I burn it to disc and put it in the home theater system, I'm really going to listen and let it play.

This band has a lot of Pink Floyd, The Doors, and even some Robert Plant vs. Led Zeppelin influences in their music.  And there are a lot more influences you can pick out too.  They have a very West Coast late 1960's into early 1970's type of sound but it is much more modern and completely different at the same time.  It's very difficult to explain their music and that may be one thing I like about it.  I believe they are from San Francisco and that might explain a large part of their exposure to that kind of music.  Of course I live nowhere near San Francisco or California at all and I have a lot of exposure to that era and style of music.  But I had to go looking for it and have for decades too!

I hope you enjoy the band and the show...

Joe Satriani: 1988-05-22 Atlanta, GA (FLAC_SB/FM Live BX_2 CD)

Here's a superb concert captured of Joe Satriani's live FM broadcast on WKLS 96.1 FM (96 Rock) in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988.  These were still the days of great, full concerts being played live in cities where an artist played and especially if a show sold out.  I don't think that happens much if at all nowadays.  But it use to a lot when FM radio still ruled the day.

Satriani was touring right between his 1987 release of Surfing With The Alien and his 1989 release of Flying In A Blue Dream at this point.  I think for many people, myself included, 1987 was when I first heard of Joe Satriani.  And like many others I rushed to buy the cassette tape (and later upgrade to a CD) Surfing With The Alien.  I loved the rock and roll music with no lyrics and just flat out jamming.  It was definitely something new and different and it wasn't a glamor rock, hair band release like everything else coming out seemed to be at that time.  I'm not saying both styles didn't have their great songs.  It was just that I personally wanted something different, not pop driven, and Satriani was putting out the music you could crank up in your car and drive and listen to.  And I did that in my Chevelle a lot too,  I was jamming on Satriani and Whitesnake a lot in 1987 on my Sony car stereo and cassette deck with a great speaker setup I had installed just the previous year.  I wanna go back!

I have a really great 1988 or maybe 1990/91 Satriani DVD of a show he did in California.  And it was professionally shot too.  I'll look for it once I get my hard drive I ordered in and arrange things where they can be much more easily found.  I've been working on this reorganization "project" for over two years now and almost have the majority of it ready and useable.  I may even be able to find the show faster and upload it.  In fact, I know I can.  If you have an interest in it, let me know in a comment and I'll upload it.

Do you remember the talk in 1987 about whether Satriani could actually tour since he was a studio made musician?  Well, the answer was obviously yes!  And he had great musicians that played with him then as he still does today.

Also, do you remember who Joe Satriani taught guitar lessons too?  Here are two hints. (1) Steve Vai and (2) Yngwie Malmsteen.  To be honest, I never really listened to Yngwie and I bought a CD or two from Steve Vai but never gave him a lot of listening either.  To me, Satriani blew them both away.  And then later, in all of their careers, they created G3 and even made one or two officially released DVDs (I've got two I know of) of the three of them playing shows together.  G3 changed up at some point before or after this lineup but I can recall what the change was at the time.  And I'm not putting down any of the artists, but again, I think Satriani blew them away.

I'm listening to this show as I type up the post.  One of my favorite songs is "Circles" from Surfing With The Alien and it just started.  The way the song starts off with a mood of "mellow" and then transfers into a full blown "rock out" before it transitions back into the mellow ending is awesome.

It's been way too many years since I've listened to the actual 1987 official CD I purchased back then.  I see online that they're reissuing the original CD.  From what I was just reading the reissuing is of the CD as it was in 1987 and no remastering.  That's interesting and makes me wonder why?  I've always been happy with my 1987 copy, so I guess I got what I need already :-)

I hope you enjoy the show...

Joan Jett And The Blackhearts: 1987-06-06 Santa Cruz, CA (FLAC_AUD 1st Gen_1 CD)

This is an excellent sounding recording and performance by Joan Jett And The Blackhearts on their 1987 tour.  This was right between the the 1986 Good Music LP release and the 1988 Up Your Alley LP release.  With Jett's meshing of oldies songs with a rock 'n' roll newer sound in the 1980's, she rocked towns and countries playing by her own rules.

I remember the Up Your Alley LP release because I bought in the day it came out.  With songs on the new LP Like "Little Liar" and "I Still Dream About You", she was proving her days as a Runaway member and as well as her early 1980 and 1981 hits with songs like "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" and "Crimson And Clover" were not just flukes.  She still had talent and was not a one hit wonder.  Most fans already knew this by 1986, but for the ever belittling critics at the time, many were eating their words as they had not given her the best of reviews.  Critics seem to always get it wrong and be at odds with fans points of view.  It makes you wonder if they even would know what was good if it slapped them upside the head.  And that is still an ongoing problem today and one reason I put very little stock in write-ups many times.

I think the very first year I saw Joan Jett was in either 1987 or possibly 1988 in San Antonio, Texas.  I wasn't expecting to see her and had no recording equipment so I obviously didn't get to record the show.  In fact, I never got a chance to record her until 2006-05-2 at the Wildflower Festival up near Dallas, Texas.  And she still had it!  In fact, I was so impressed by her performance I got a second wind of collecting her shows and have collected quiet a few over the last 8 years.  I need to upload that show one of these days.

I still think that one of her most underrated albums released in 1994
, Pure and Simple, has had some of her best work to date with songs like "As I Am" and "Brighter Day".  It was a completely different sound and style, and actually it was a side of her talent and song writing that was a heartfelt, more sincere, and personal side of here own life era she put to music I believe.  The LP/CD has some really excellent tracks.

Joan Jett is a touch chick!  It's too bad she's "batting for the other team" (to coin an old phrase).  But it isn't like I'd ever get closer to her than the front row anyhow :-)  But she has always been hot looking I think.  Even in her mid 50's nowadays, and thankfully growing her hair back out, she is a beautiful looking girl.  And one that can crank out the songs and sound just as great as she always has with that gritty, gutsy, and raw voice she is known for.

All thanks goes to "markp" for taping this show and then sharing it!  He did an excellent to superb job of capturing the show and the mix is awesome.  Joan Jett shows can many times be  messed up by rowdy and loud crowds.  But however he got this recording, he was able to keep the crowd noise to a minimum as the music plays.  This is one of the better, and possibly even the best, audience recordings I've heard from Jett's 1987 tour.  And I know you should like it too if you are a fan.

I hope you enjoy the show...

This is a primarily excellent sounding Heart soundboard from 1986 in Japan according to the sharing party.  While this is not an easy show to find or even find information on, I do believe it is an FM radio broadcast likely.  In 1986, I don't imagine Heart's shows were only 65 minutes like this recording is.  While many FM broadcasts are full length concerts, there are also many that have a song or a few songs not in the broadcasted FM transmission.  In this recording there are some cuts after songs that sound like commercials that were removed possibly as well as a few more professionally done cuts done in the studio before the broadcast in between songs where a little more talking would have been.  I imagine their concerts were longer than 65 minutes if they were headlining which I think they were.  And finally, there is a Japanese lady announcing something in the second from last track indicating it was either an FM broadcast or maybe a Japanese TV broadcast this was sourced from.  She is talking over the band's return to stage after the encore (or is that the encore).  This may or may not be the full show?  I'm really not sure now and I'd need to look into it more.  But it really doesn't matter either way because this is what we have.

1986 was one of Heart's years they did not like as a band because the record company was trying to micro manage and force the girls to do and play what they thought the band should play.  Ann Wilson was being hounded by the label about her weight and the band was starting to write a lot less rocking songs and a lot more ballad type of songs.  It's not that they were not good songs.  It was just that their creative freedom was being taken away and they were very unhappy how the industry and label was treating and running them.

With all the above paragraph being said, they rocked out in this show.  It sounds a lot different than their 1986 American shows to me too.  Without doing more research into what they played in America, I really cannot say whether the setlist in Japan was different or not.  But they played a lot of the songs that had made them famous since 1976.  It was about a half and half setlist between old and newer songs at the time.  But they really were rocking out this night.

The only issue I have with theis recording is someone has clipped the audio.  Looking at the waveform, it was either over EQ'ed or over amplified.  I'd venture to say most listeners would not notice this because the audio isn't distorted.  But there parts in the the show I noticed that had some slight distortion or maybe a problem from a cassette tape transfer?  The recording has excellent sound and stereo speraration too.  I'm listening to "Bebe Le Strange" right now and the girls and it sounds incredible.

I made a second copy of this show using -12db in the  Compressor setting in Audacity.  But I'm going ahead and uploading the original copy because the compression is taking too much of the high frequencies away for my taste.  As "Even It Up" plays now, it starts off with the audio issue I was just referring to.  I can't tell if it is due to the audio clipping or not?  And it does not ruin the excellent recording.  It just makes it a little less perfect.

I've always loved Heart.  And any band that plays at least one Led Zeppelin tribute song, usually as good as Led Zeppelin did in the studio I might add, is awesome in my book!  These girls I've seen and recorded a number of times.  And every last time they were perfection in action on stage.  They have not lost the ability to hit the high notes or play the songs just like they did in their starting years.  And no matter whoever else they have on instruments through the years, they always pull off the classic heart sound without a hitch.  Plus the sisters have made some superb music and newer songs as they've progressed through the years too.  Maybe they aren't as well known as their older hits, but they are just as great sounding anyhow.

I hope you enjoy the show...
