The reason I picked this source to upload is because it seems to have "a" best sound. Notice that I didn't say "the" best sound because there are other recordings of this show that are just as good. But this one stood out and won the comparison contest! I was primarily comparing it to EVSD's "Led Zeppelin Is My Brother" which has a little more bass in it. I like bass, but this mix from the masters has a cleaner sound I believe and the bass is still there. They are both around the same quality-wise, but the two sources mix has extra clarity and is more complete due to the source 3 segments. And as I already stated, all music is from source 1 and some of the filler parts added from source 3 are just on non-music sections of the show and they make it more complete. The sound quality is pretty equal throughout the whole show too!
Led Zeppelin had just finished recording "Houses of the Holy" prior to these Japan 1972 shows and Plant refers to the new album coming out as they introduce songs for the first time. They had not been released yet, so this is the first live performances with the songs from "Houses of the Holy". That's probably part of the reason Plant gets stumped a few times singing the wrong verse in the wrong place (and having to repeat it in at least one song).
This whole Japan 1972 tour is very unique to me because you can hear the transitioning of the earlier Zeppelin songs in concerts merging with the 1973 (the year "The Song Remains The Same" video was shot at Madison Square Gardens...but it wasn't released until 1976) tour songs. Some songs get added, some get dropped, and some reappear in other Japan 1972 shows too. These Japanese shows sound like a merge from the past into the next, more well known by the "common listener" stage of Zeppelin's music as seen in the video release I mentioned.
I didn't get a chance to upload this show on it's 41st anniversary (2013-10-02), so while Led Zeppelin is on their break right now (act like it's 41 years ago) and as they enjoy some time in Japan, they won't return to the stage until they return to Osaka for a second show on October 9th. And then they will finish off the tour the next night in Kyoto, Japan. Two more great shows left on this tour and soon to be here for your listening pleasure too.
I really enjoyed cranking this show up yesterday and having it sound so good as I did things around the house (besides sitting on the couch and listening to it). I've been listening to various labels, versions, and sources of this show off and on since it first surfaced many moons ago. But yesterday, it was almost like listening to a new show I hadn't ever heard because it was such a clean, well done transfer and better than my earlier recordings of 1972-10-02. And by the way, this was a "weedwacker" transfer of the tapes. He is known for doing superb tape transfers and work on Led Zeppelin shows within trading and sharing circles. Thanks goes to him for sharing his work. This is one worth having and enjoying for numerous reasons!
I'm leaving "weedwacker's" file set intact and I'm adding one ticket image from this show as well as my own "Bootradr's info" and "Bootradr's checksum" files to the upload. There are no SBE's and the songs are named in this upload too (I like it when I don't have to do this).
I hope you enjoy this show from 41 years, 5 days ago today...
